The most charming bed and breakfast right on Aviles Street! Passing thru St Augustine for one night so we decided to try out the Casa. Parking is three blocks away- so there's a loading/unloading zone at Solana for convenience. Just put in Dog Rose Brewery and the parking is right there once you're ready to park. It's a short walk back. Rooms are actually bigger than I was expecting which was a plus. Courtyard is quaint and extra adorable and the service was wonderful. My only complaint would be that the bathroom was not up to par on cleanliness. The main area of the room in general was quite clean but the bathroom just wasn't. The window on the right of the toilet had dust and hair (not mine) on the blinds and the windowsill has not been cleaned in quite some time. In a property as aged and historic as this, i get that things are kept but there are also times when things need replacing just for overall appearance- showerhead and handle being one of them. Overall this would not deter me from staying here again. There's something special about a property that's been around since the 1800's and staying in the oldest city wouldn't be the same without a stay here...it's a whole vibe and I'm all for it.

We planned a beautiful wedding weekend at Casa de Solana and couldn't have been more pleased!! From start to finish, the staff was so courteous, accomodating, polite, and incredibly helpful!! Our special day was completely coordinated by Kathy and she was just so personable and easy to talk to in the months leading up to our wedding. The rooms are so elegant, and what a delicious breakfast! You are walking distance from all of the great museums and entertainment in historic St. Augustine. We were so glad we chose to have our wedding in St. Augustine and at Casa de Solana!! Thank you!!!

This place was amazing and definitely haunted! This is where I was proposed to so it will always hold a special meaning to me. Definitely worth staying if you like haunted places.

My husband and I planned on staying here for one night, but extended our stay once we saw our room. We stayed in the British Suite and were not disappointed. The staff was so friendly and nice! The breakfast we were served our two mornings was fantastic. I really enjoyed the cream cheese stuffed lemon and poppy seed pancakes with blueberry syrup. So tasty! There was also cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee, hot chocolate, teas, and various breads offered each morning. They catered to my vegetarian diet without any issues and even gave me extra of other things since I wasn't eating meat. We partook in the social hour one evening and regretting not attending the evening before also. My husband enjoyed the wine and I liked the pastries, homemade cookies, fresh fruit, cheese, chips, and hot chocolate. We definitely plan on coming back after we have our baby!

I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful our stay was here. My partner and I are actually getting married here in august and recently stayed to see the place for our wedding planning. Kathy and Lynne are wonderful. We cannot wait to come back with our families to get married and show them how truly beautiful casa de solana is. Not only are the rooms beautiful and spacious but the breakfasts are beyond amazing. My partner is vegan and they were so helpful to ensure she had a great breakfast. If you ever find yourself in the area, do yourself a favor and stay here. It's also super close walking distance to many local attractions and makes the need for a car very minimal.

We stayed at this Bed and Breakfast on our latest trip to St Augustine. ..what a nice and quaint B&B. We were pleasantly greeted by the caretaker, he showed us to our room and wow! I felt like I was stepping into a whole different era. The room had the bed with those nice pillars on the side, the chandelier, the fireplace ..so cozy and romantic. The B&B offers a full breakfast in the morning and a happy hour from 4:30-5:30 where they serve wine and hors d'oeuvres. Each room is decorated differently, all very cozy. This B&B is right at the heart of the historic district, steps to the flagler college, Castillo de San Marcos and Oldest House. Only minus will have to be the parking. Since most of the B&B share parking spaces, the parking lot for this one is about 3 blocks away but at least it gave us a chance to walk troough the narrow but pintoresc town.

We had great stay at Casa de Solana. This Bed and Breakfast is an excellent choice to stay when visiting St Augustine. Our was very well kept and it included a jacuzzi. They also provide you with Bubble bat soap which is definitely a very nice touch. They provide you with parking but it's a about a 5 minute walk, not a big deal since your mostly going to be walking while your in this town. The breakfast was ok considering what your paying for a night, but I doubt you will be getting anything different for that price in St Augustine since it is a very touristy place. Definitely a great place to stay and if we're in St Augustine again we would most likely stay at Casa de Solana.

The owner renovated the inside so that it's got modern amenities and sleeps six people comfortably. The first time we visited the place, it was like an awakening. It was the PERFECT place for my husband and I to get have our wedding. Of course, we had 85 guests, so the ceremony had to be elsewhere, but this was perfect for the reception. It was the perfect size for everyone to move around freely and still have a small dance floor. Also the price is crazy good. You will NOT find a more reasonable deal in town. Bring in your own vendors and you can create a fabulous wedding on a modest budget. I'm not just saying that because I am the proud bride. I'm saying it because it's a recession and fabulous doesn't normally come cheap. And I don't throw the word FABULOUS around breezily. I'm deadly serious. Anyway, you get the place in all it's charm for three days and two nights. Then you can rent it for an extra day for a good price. And really, you just have to get rid of your trash because they clean and do laundry for you. How is that not perfect? Go there because it made my very special day amazing.

When originally searching for a wedding venue we had a few must-haves, which included a location with historical character, in driving distance from Orlando, and located in a town where out-of-state visitors could enjoy exploring. And so we focused in on St. Augustine. I had a good gut instinct about the Sanchez House from the moment I discovered them online, and I must shamelessly admit that I stalked the websites of every couple who had their wedding at the Sanchez House. We quickly booked a visit to the Sanchez House, because they are only able to hold 12 weddings a year due to being zoned in a residential area. We met with the owner, Blake, who shared with us the history of the home, gave tips from other weddings held on the premise, and shared some of his favorite vendors. When we experienced the venue in person, we fell even more in love with the charm that was evident around every corner of the house! The SH offers a brick courtyard, artificial turf front lawn, large gathering room, dining room, kitchen, office, two bedrooms, small one-car garage, and an attic. Not only can you hold your wedding events at the house, but you are able to stay there, as well. This allowed us and our bridal party, 6 in total, to stay at the house. So convenient! After booking the Sanchez House, we decided to extend our celebration into an entire weekend. Our events spanned from 50 to 90 guests, and SH accommodates them comfortably. The house is in an excellent location by the bay and walking distance to historic St. George Street. At the SH, we were able to select our own vendors. We held our ceremony in the courtyard which transformed to the dance floor. The front lawn was donned with a heated tent and tables on the coldest Florida winter day. It even snowed lightly! Guests had the chance to mingle throughout the house in the dining room, gathering room, and balcony. I would note that the parking around the SH can be challenging, but we gave plenty of parking options for guests through our wedding website and social media, and suggested our guests to stay at one of the nearby hotels or bed & breakfasts. I highly recommend the Sanchez House for any couple looking for an intimate St. Augustine venue!

About this oldest home González-Álvarez House Historic house in Florida, United States The González-Álvarez House, also known as The Oldest House, is a historic house museum at 14 St. Francis Street in St. Augustine, Florida. With a construction history dating to about 1723, it is believed to be the oldest surviving house in St. Augustine. It is also an important example of St. Augustine's Spanish colonial architectural style, with later modifications by English owners. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1970. The house is now owned by the St. Augustine Historical Society and is open for public tours as part of the Oldest House Museum Complex. Evidence can be seen of the Spanish, British, and American occupations of St. Augustine. The González-Álvarez House is located in a residential area south of downtown St. Augustine, on the north side of St. Francis Street between Charlotte and Marine Streets. It is a two-story structure, its first floor built of coquina and its upper level framed in wood with a clapboarded exterior. It is covered by a hip roof finished with wooden shingles. The building is reflective of multiple periods of alteration and enlargement, during different periods of colonial administration. The land on which this house stands has been occupied since the 17th century, when a building is documented to have been standing here. The present house's earliest period of construction dates to about 1723, when the first floor was built, and it was documented as being occupied by Tomás González y Hernández, an artilleryman at the Castillo de San Marcos, and his family. The design of this house is one that was adopted by Spanish colonial settlers to deal with local living conditions and available building materials. It was built of readily available coquina limestone, with its main thick walls oriented east-west, and has an open covered loggia on the east side. The latter allows prevailing southeasterly winds to cool the structure, while the thick walls provide insulation from hot weather. The interior floors are made of tabby concrete. After the British took over Florida in 1763, the González family left for Cuba. In 1774 the house was purchased by Major Joseph Peavett, an Englishman, who added the wood-frame second story, and put glass windows into openings previously only enclosed by wooden shutters. It was further enlarged by the third owner, Geronimo Alvarez, who added a two-story wing built of coquina. The house was taken over by the St. Augustine Historical Society in 1918, which undertook its restoration to a late 19th-century appearance in 1959-60, reversing a number of intervening alterations.
