Excellent what's not to like about this place. Excellent view of the bay front and Bridge of Lions. Right in downtown St Augustine. Open to members and nonmembers (discount for members). We had a couple of drinks and shared a steak sandwich. Really love this place which was completely remodeled a while ago. The steak sandwich was excellent. With hot fries (hate when they aren't hot). Being an aficionado of American Legions, having been to more of them than I can count, I found Post 37 to be particularly nice. It has a great location just off the Bridge of the Lions, plenty of spacious room, a great bar and adding to that, the fact that it is open to the general public during certain hours makes it more inviting than most. Legion members get a reduced rate on drinks, but even without the reduced rate, the drinks are generally better and less expensive than in the other local bars. The building structure along with the general interior design also adds to its ambiance. So, whether you are a Legion member or not, it makes a great place to sit down and hang for an enjoyable drink and some good company. read more

I've heard mixed reviews about this place but I'm on the side of the supporters. I grabbed a bite to eat with some of my co workers on a warm, summer afternoon and I was impressed with most of it. Outside patio seating is a must so you can get a great view of downtown St. Augy. This restaurant lives right in the heart of St. Augy and all its historical beauty. My Hamblem Club was fully loaded and I took half of it with me to go, and not only to savor the great taste for later but because it was a larger portion than expected! Stacked with ham, lettuce, tomatoes, turkey, bacon, swiss cheese and mayo - you can't finish this beast of a sandwich! Being a relatively new bar, they are setting themselves apart with slow service and rude bartenders. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have just noted them as an average "nothing special to see here" type of bar. - NOT ENOUGH BARTENDERS. This is one of those bars where it seems like a dive through infinity of time as you are waiting to get a drink. Whether you are eloquently leaning against the bar, flashing a bill or have your hand up with a credit card, you need to prepare to wait a while. - BARTENDER WAS FLAT OUT DISRESPECTFUL. Not only did he start servicing people who came after us before he got to our group, but he was rude and unapologetic when we told him that. If I felt like wasting a little more of my night, I would have surely made a bigger scene about it and made sure that he is punished for it. - THEY HAVE POOL AND A PATIO. American Legion Post 37 in St. Augustine is a dive bar with heart. Cheap beer $2-$3 , cheap eats not fancy but great location. It's like stepping back in time and going to your uncles local bar. This is probably my favorite place in St. Augustine. I've been twice and make it a point to stop in everytime I'm in town. The cheap drinks are great, but the food is what has me hooked. The food: I ordered the chicken strips thinking, "Well, you can't mess up chicken strips" and was surprised to find they are home made. For the price, I expected frozen fingers. I got a chance to meet the chef and he explained his vision on making everything on the menu fresh and made to order. He's a pretty cool dude. The restaurant: as with most places in St. Augustine, it's a party atmosphere. Granted I've only been there at night, there are people hanging out, drinking heavily. read more

I suppose I could be a bit biased in making this review of the local St. Augustine American Legion Post. As a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am a proud member of the American Legion, The VFW, and the DAV, and I support the organizations in which ever way I can, because these organizations not only do amazing things for veterans, but also offer amazing services to the citizens of this country. This legion post is in a great location downtown, right off the Bridge Of Lions. The Legion offers a lot of different services to citizens and veterans of St. Augustine, but also offers lots of fun activities... DJ Nights, dinners and lunches, and my personal favorite, a kick-ass bar which is open late, and open to folks of all types. The bar is an awesome place to stop and hang out, drink some beers, make some friends, and thank some veterans. Cheap beer- only two bucks for a draft, along with dollar jello shots, and PBR tall boys make this a wallet friendly drinking hole. There is an awesome jukebox which always spouts out amazing classic rock, and there is a pool table, which is always heavily populated. There are a few other video games and ways to enjoy yourself, but the people are what makes this place great. The bartenders are the best, and the crowd is always heavy active duty and retired veterans. Stop in, order some drinks, leave a FAT tip, and ask how you can support the organization and the troops, and before you know it, you'll make a lot of great new friends, enjoy a great night out, and do something great for your country and community. It does not look like the pictures anymore, we visited the post about a month ago and it does not even look like a Post. I talked with some of the people there and they have no programs going yet, no pictures of Officers, no sign in book, we found out if you were a member your beverages were discounted but they never ask for my card. Growing up with American Legion, I enjoy being able to support vets. We went here for lunch on a Sunday and had cheap food and drinks, not only were they cheap they were also really good. Service was Mediocre but wasn't expecting more, cheap food and drinks was what we were after. After spending the day exploring St Augustine, we wanted something to take back to our hotel and saw they delivered. We called and found out they do not deliver (although it says it on their menu) so we asked to do pick up. We were told they were too busy to take our order. We asked if they could take our order if we went in and they said ok. We went down there and after waiting ten mins or so for the bartender to get to us, when I asked to order with the order already written down, he said he was to busy to deal with our order and walked away - he was the same one we talked to on the phone. Ok...no explanation or anything. So we went to the kitchen and talked to the chef... Apparently the bartender was trying to finish with a group tour and would be free in 15 mins or so and recommended we come back in awhile. We didn't want to look around for something else so we did and the bartender finally put our order in. It took him less time to just put in the order than it did to tell us he was too busy to deal with us...but the food was good and the chef was nice. If you go, go during lunch. Dinner time or later you may or may not get served, depending how busy it is and the bartenders mood. read more

Wow, this place is great!! Went on Sunday and they had $2 Mimosas and Bloody Marys! And they were well made too. Bar tender was great! Shrimp basket and fries was only $6.50. The chicken wings were big and plump. With the money we saved by dining here, we had coffee and desert later on. Will definately be back!! It also makes you feel good to be in a place that serves and contrubutes to the Vets. Place just needs some renovating, but great location! read more

This place is newly renovated and very clean. They have a great patio and nice bar to hang out at. This location is open to the public and you do not need to be a Legion member to enjoy. The hummus plate is huge and comes with veggies. The bar staff is friendly and great to chat with. If you are a member of American Legion, be sure to mention it for your discount. read more

We visited this Legion on Saturday the 29th of July. We were surprised to be part of the "Soft" grand opening. Yes, it is a beautiful and welcomed renovation to the building, however, our opinions on the charges of items is not welcomed. To order whiskey and ginger or whiskey and soda and be charged $7.00 for each is a bit high. Yes, Legion Members get a 15% discount upon showing your membership card, however that still is $5.95 per each drink. Way too expensive. We fully understand that they need to pay for the mtg. however, after 1 drink we will not reorder. The food was wonderful and very modestly priced. The atmosphere good considering they are not complete with the reno. We were able to speak with ..we believe..the manager, who stated upon completion the upstairs will be a members lounge with pool table and other amenities. The only problem...if the drink prices are this high it will be empty. We truly wish them luck they have a great location and a marvelous building, But...at what cost to the guests. read more
