I have driven 40 minutes to get here several times and each time, the food was a HIT. I'm dead serious The service is amazing, staff are friendly, accommodating and helpful. I'm slightly salty about The Salted Fry. I had fairly high expectations for The Salted Fry as they're one of the few places in Central Florida that has Belgian-style fries. I think I also had high expectations since they have been awarded some accolades as well. It's located in downtown Mount Dora, which is a very cute are. It's walkable and there's some parks on that road. We got there, it is an opening seating arrangement and a small restaurant. It was really cute and they have wine slushies and I wish I could have had some of those. I got a regular smash burger with truffle parm fries. It was definitely on the more expensive end of food. The burger was not really a true smash burger, but it was fine. I would rate is a 7/10. The truffle parm fries were an 8.5/10. It was definitely made well, I just think I wish both items had more flavor to it. The truffle parm fries felt like it used truffle oil, which is fine, but I couldn't taste it strongly. I could smell it, but not taste. The burger, I just wished was actually smashed into the griddle where it gets really crispy. I will say the customer service was excellent. They misheard my partner order an extra patty and they brought it out to him immediately. Otherwise, they have a lot of sauces and other little things to place on the burger, so maybe that's why they keep it more basic. I did not see all that till after I already ate the whole thing. This is our go-to restaurant in Mount Dora, that is, if Goblin Market is closed. Customer Alert: the Goblin Market is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Our visit to the Salted Fry was excellent as we each had chicken fingers. It was a hot day so we remained on the interior with full AC. When you get the fries, I definitely recommend to get them loaded as it really enhances the experience and makes them almost a full meal. Okay WOW! These fries are INCREDIBLE! While I didn't visit the brick and mortar, I was lucky enough to stumble upon their food truck in Sanford. Honestly I have been three times to this establishment, and after this final time, I don't think I'll be returning. The first time I came it was a busy night in Mount Dora. I got a ham and cheese sandwich with fries for about $21, and it was very underwhelming and did not (in my opinion) justify the price. The second time I came I placed my order and after I finished placing it was told "oh we just turned the ovens off actually and we are now closed. I came in at 3:57, not knowing they closed at 4 and was allowed to order before anyone said anything about being closed. It was quite awkward. Finally, I went one last time because I kept hearing from people how good this place was. They were short staffed and the food took a while to come. I'm alright with waiting a little bit as long as the food is good. My mushroom Swiss burger had four little mushrooms on it and the patty was dry and under seasoned. The poutine had four cheese curds and though the fries themselves were good, everything else lacked again and did not feel worth the $23 I spent. I feel I have given this business multiple opportunities to make it right but it's just not for me. I would say maybe try the fries but nothing else there. read more

Salted Fry - popular this Halloween season for the huge spider featured out front - has decent foot traffic and I'm convinced it's due to the friendly staff as much as the food. The burger, called a smash burger, is not what I think about when I think smash burger-what I mean is they are on the thicker side to be smash burgers but they are delicious none the less. Since I consider myself a french fry connoisseur, I couldn't wait to give this place a try. We were there over the holiday season, so it was very busy, but we still managed to snag a table outside on their patio to take advantage of the cooler weather. What's neat about this restaurant is that the entire place is Gluten-free. You can't even bring in outside food, because they don't want anything contaminated. You place your order at the front counter and they give you a number to put on your table. They only offered non-name brand bottled soda to drink, so I didn't love my diet soda, but my friend did. We both went with tuna panini melt, since we knew we were having a big dinner. The meals arrived in a timely manner, still nice and hot. All sandwiches are served with fries, or you can order a separate, larger order. All the food was good, but nothing was "wow". I guess I had too high of hopes for the fries. They do offer a whole range of dipping sauces for the fries, but at $2.25 each for a little ramekin, we didn't bother with those. The manager who I believe was also cooking in the kitchen, came around to every single table throughout our stay there, making sure that everybody was doing OK. When I got the burger, I thought it would've been a lot bigger so I only got a single. I didn't feel as if the burger was big enough and that is why I gave four stars. Even if I had two meat patties in there, it just wasn't big. It was about 3 inches wide perhaps. The flavor was OK, but I still thought it was pretty good. The best part were the fries. They have a seasoning bar where you can put chocolate and sugar powder, spicy seasonings, salty, or sweet seasonings, etc.. The french fries were really good and cooked like old-fashioned style fries, which are my favorite. I loved how you were able to get a free cup of water, especially when you have a kid with you. The restaurant bathroom was a single bathroom, but it was clean enough. I felt like the piece of furniture in there was really gross and that the bathroom could be a heck of a lot cleaner looking. I have to say that their side of fries are actually pretty enormous, which was awesome. My husband ordered pizza, fries and poutine fries and it was really good. I definitely recommend that anybody who comes here better be eating the fries. AMBIANCE: The place is very casual and it's a place where you go up to the counter and order and they bring food out to you. They had an outside patio with many umbrellas which I thought was very nice and it was set up on a deck with a long train car connected to the side of it. It would be nice if the train car provided cocktails or perhaps was an air-conditioned place for guests to sit in because it got very crowded after we ordered and sat down. It just looks like a very cute train car that's not being utilized. The restaurant sits at the end of a street near the lake Inn and we thought it was very cute and overall enjoyed our time there. I would definitely eat here again and I do recommend people to stop here if they just wanted a quick little bite to eat. read more

The Salted Fry was open and a mural of fries on the building was calling me. It's a super cute place with indoor and outdoor seating. They have an extensive menu of not only fries but hot and cold sandwiches. They even have a salt & sugar bar. We ordered sandwiches with fries and a cherry soda and a root beer soda. Originally we we're going to try another spot in Mt. Dora but parking was tricky this Saturday. We easily parked past the train tracks and walked back. I'm newly diagnosed with a gluten allergy and eating out has been riddled with anxiety. Will I break out in hives and itch?
