So from the time I sat down, I was disappointed. First off, the beer I wanted was "out of stock in the fridge" so the waitress offered me a warm one... thanks, but no. Then I ordered the pitt beef and cheddar sandwich. The meat was cold and incredibly tough. I also ordred the buffalo potato salad. This was very strange, quartered boiled potatoes with blue cheese and buffalo sauce. Not what you would expect! I let waitress know I did not care for the meal, especially the meat which is the star of the show...the restaurant will not take it off the bill, so if you order something different, you will be charged for both. They offered to "make it again". 5 minutes later...the exact same sandwich appeared and was clearly microwaved. Um, NO. Shitty policy for a restaurant. Other people in my party had a decent meal. Waited for a table but the place is so small and new that it was busy and we ended up eating at the bar because some stools cleared up and we were so hungry and didn't want to wait for a table any longer. Unfortunately, my fiancée and I were extremely disappointed in this place. I received a lot of good recommendations for The Rusty Pig and saw the reviews online and was super excited to try it. In all honesty, the best part of this restaurant is the food descriptions, too bad they don't hold up. First off, the way they handle the covid restrictions is very strange. They had a whole party who were waiting on two more members and they wouldn't seat them, so this party was just congregating on the sidewalk. That was a missed opportunity to seat them and sell them apps and drinks. I placed my order to go, but had to wait in a line with this party for my take out order because they could only allow one person in for take out at a time. Why they don't just take your credit card info over the phone and have the hostess that's outside monitoring the line bring it to you is beyond me. Restaurants were doing that pre-Covid, so there really isn't an excuse. So after waiting outside for about 15 minutes (remind you, for a take out order), we brought our food home for possibly the saddest bbq experience I can remember. I ordered the brisket and the meat was incredibly tough and dry. I would do speech to text to write this review but my jaw hurts too much from all the chewing. There also wasn't much sauce on it so I ended up topping it off with some dinosaur bbq sauce which improved the flavor a bit. The Texas caviar was fine, nothing to write home about. I actually liked the coleslaw, it was more vinegary than sweet, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, the Mac and cheese was completely devoid of any form flavor, it was just bland mush. I was most upset about the cornbread though. Looking at this, it looks great. It's nice and golden, with a moist wet glow...then I bit into it. They somehow managed to make an outer layer of cornbread perfectly spongy and delicious, with an inner center that feels and tastes like you're biting into a dried out kitchen sponge. This is beyond science...okay not really, in actuality, it typically means that it was frozen then reheated and then served, so not fresh, something you could buy in the frozen isle in your grocery store. Onto my fiancée's food. She ordered the Firekeeper burger. We ordered it rare, but it came out medium rare (I don't know why but we anticipated this happening). In terms of flavor, it just wasn't really there. It tasted like a bbq bacon burger, and an average one at best. There was nothing in it that even resembled spice or heat. The bbq baked beans were good, but that's one of the foods that if you can't do right, you can't call yourself a bbq restaurant. Finally; dessert. We ordered the Beeramisu and this is what brought them up to two stars. It's sweet and flavorful. I'm actually impressed that you can differentiate both the beer flavor and the coffee flavor in this. The ladyfinger parts were drier than you would typically find in a tiramisu, but the abundance of mascarpone cream makes up for that, and the fact that I'm looking for something positive in this experience. Although it's not really my personal kind of dessert, I can definitely appreciate what they tried to do here and I have to give them credit for it. Overall, we didn't have a pleasant experience with this food by a long shot. I feel that the reason this place is reviewed so highly is that there aren't that many bbq restaurants in the area and the apparent lack of competition means that this subpar restaurant is overly exaggerated review-wise. I feel misled by whoever wrote the awesome food descriptions on the menu. That person could sell water to a fish, they're the real MVP of this restaurant. Normally, I have a two strike policy with trying a restaurant, but to my dismay, this experience used up both strikes in one go. I'm actually sad having to write this. read more

I'm gonna tell you that the food was good, HOWEVER, DO NOT be a party of four!! If you are 5 or more, you can make a reservation. Meanwhile the big tables they have available for "large parties " STAY available!! Easier for a party of 2 or 3 to get a table or sit at bar. But the larger tables will remain unused while your party of 4 will wait a long, long time. Not a place I would recommend to friends and family. Serving size was small, sides were terrible, and the wait staff along with the woman at the front desk were rude and not welcoming. If you know what the real BBQ is then you would not recommend this place. I don't mind the poor space and the ambiance because all that matters is the quality of food and welcoming staff. In the area and found this on Yelp cool spot downtown Genva on close off street nice vibes. Service very good a a very busy night. My wife had a pull pork sandwich. I had the Dinosaur rib , which is really a fresh pork hock. I loved the idea which means I plan to steal the idea. The only negative thing I could say very dark inside , so no photos. And in general all foods could use more seasoning. I also forgot the pretzel appetizer served with the best beer cheese sauce. The next time I will order a cup and drink it. We had an amazing dinner at the Rusty Pig tonight. We weren't able to get a reservation so we took our chances and showed up. For a party of 5, the wait was not long at all. The food was delicious. We had the nachos, pretzels, brisket plate, Rosie the Riveter burger and the grand-daddy of all the meals was the special which consisted of brisket, Mac n cheese, French fries and if I'm not mistaken - some beer cheese to boot! Went for dinner there tonight. I was told that it would be 45 minutes before we could be seated. Which was fine. It was very busy. I've worked in the food industry so I understand that. What I'm irritated with is the fact that once we're able to order, ordered our wine which we got quickly. But ordered an order of pretzels which took 30 minutes. Let me say that we ordered everything at the same time wine, appetizer and dinner at the same time. We waited for our dinner for a hour. Never received any response from the waitress for why it was taking so long. No I'm sorry or let me check on your order. That's not ok. Went in to find out why it was taking so long.Waitress brought the food and asked if we needed to go boxes. Then she left. Came back with the boxes. Again no sorry or anything. Just dropped off the check. Went into the restaurant and asked the bartender why it took so long and her response was sorry we were busy it happens. Directions show to turn down a short side street, but in actuality it is blocked to vehicles. The place has a nice ambiance and lots of staff. I actually think there is to much staff. They could reduce overhead if they reduced staff. Wife and I actually each had burgers and they were really good. I think they were slightly overpriced but acceptable. They do not offer Pepsi or Coke or even Ice tea, but they do offer a micro soda companies brand Fizz out of Rochester NY. It was a soda and nothing that I would pay extra for. Their beer selection is also good and offer many micro brew choices in can and draft. I recommend the place but think they would grow even bigger by reducing pricing by reducing burgers from $15 to $12. Just my opinion on what the market is looking for. read more

So glad we stopped to try this little joint. We ordered take out and had about an hr drive back home. We just warmed it a bit in the oven and was still a 10/10. The brisket was sooo good and tender. I am not a huge fan of bbq sauce but i really liked the sauce they use. Not too sweet and it wasn't overly smothered. We also got the wings which were good and the hot sauce comes on the side. The only thing i wished is that the wings came with the hot sauce and also a creamy dip like ranch or blue cheese. They really don't need it but it would definitely wouldn't taste bad. The fries were very crispy and the mac was really good as well. I wish i tried the gouda burger because based off everything else it probably would have been bomb. My family and I have been faithful customers here since 2021. We had nothing but great things to say about the food and service up until last month. My husband and I decided to have our wedding dinner here with our families and closest friends. We made the reservation 2 months ahead of time and called the week leading up to our wedding multiple times to give an updated head count. The reservation was for 15 people and 13 were present at the time of our reservation. The other 2 people were running 5 minutes late. Upon arrival at the time of our reservation (the restaurant called earlier in the day and moved the time back by 20 minutes for unknown reasons), we were rudely told we could not enter the establishment until our whole party was present. Meanwhile, we could see in the window that both our tables were ready and instead of being seated as one would at a normal restaurant, we had to wait in 30° weather on our wedding night. Absolutely unacceptable. After the remaining members of our party arrived, we were seated...we moved one of the seats to the head of the table and were again, rudely told we could not do this with a silly explanation as to the seat "being in the way" when it clearly wasn't. It would have been helpful to have been told how the seating would have been split up into 2 different tables of 9 and 6 especially since we were clear on how many people would be present. Unfortunately, due to all of this we will be taking our business elsewhere in 2024. read more

After finishing up some Christmas shopping at the Waterloo outlet mall, my husband and i decided it was time for dinner. I was in the mood for barbeque, so a quick google showed several choices. I picked the closest one, and we were off. Upon arrival that restaurant was not open even though the search results on google claimed it was. I tried to call the number...and the phone just beeped... NOT GOOD.. we were hungry! SO i did the barbeque search again, and this time The Rusty Pig showed up.. DONE... that is where we went. I can say now that it must have been fate that brought us there, because it was some of the best food I have eaten in Rochester NY area since moving here back in 2014! Everything we ordered was magnificent. The waitress was super friendly and suggested the Pulled Chicken and Pork Belly croquettes... which had a light crust and was smothered in a velvety creamy sauce.. It was topped with some pickled apples which had a perfect balance between sweet and tangy. For the main course I had the Bangin Shorties, which was a slab of beef ribs that were boneless??? never heard of boneless ribs, but if I could have them like this, it would be what I always ordered. There was a nice bark on the outside and a tangy, slightly spicey bbq sauce. I opted for the Mac n Cheese which was perfect with a nice creamy cheese sauce. The coleslaw which came with it was also well done with a hint of heat. My Husband had the pork tacos and they were some of the best tacos he has ever had. We both looked at each other and said this is our go to restaurant everytime we come out to the Geneva NY areas. For the price, it was a great value, and the restaurant has a nice comfy atmosphere. I look forward to my next visit to this area. Kudos to the Rusty Pig, now one of my favorite restaurants in the Rochester area! read more

If you are looking to achieve the "meat sweats" this is your bbq joint. On Fridays there is live music outside. We ate inside as it was chilly but the patio area was nice as well. Really good food (we had the short ribs w M&C, yum) and pleasant staff. I have to take off a star because I think the restaurant could do a better job making us feel welcome while we wait. These are challenging times, and the town has closed off the street for dining which is great. But we were just standing on the street (there were 5-6 separate parties on Friday night), in front of a crummy driveway with a dumpster. A long stretch of the street adjacent to the restaurant is empty. They need to provide some seating, maybe offer apps and/or drinks if the town will allow. The hostess and wait staff were working really hard trying to keep track of us and seat us asap, and could use some help making the environment a little more welcoming. read more
