How much does a balayage cost for 18-20inch hair?

175 is the base rate for balayage.

I saw TN I love my haircut…read more 2 weeks later and it looks amazing. I was a bit skeptical at first. I get nervous letting a just anyone touch my hair (he's not just anyone). I came in kinda looking like a drowned rat. Meaning, my hair was wet dark and limp. My hair had been growing out for too long without a trim. TN was focused, amicable, and attentive. He kept my layers, which a lot of places could mess up. He started to do face framing bangs and I was like No! I like to keep the front long. He did some anyway, where I needed it, and followed direction to stop when I said No. And it turned into these cute wings around my face. While there, I kept twisting it, trying to get it to do its usual flounce, but it wouldn't go. I'm from California. He said he was, too. I think the Arizona dry air was making my hair dull. He told me to style it, like with product. I don't know what I'm doing. I brought my Kerastase Gloss Absolute products, bc I'd followed the Sephora sample directions. We didn't shampoo, so maybe I should try that next time. But idk, the shampoo area was kinda dirty. The place could be cleaner. Meanwhile, I just kept trying putting oil on it to make my hair move. I left feeling satisfied. Then later- wow- it's a really great haircut. Except now, with this haircut, I don't have to do anything to my hair. It just comes out nice. Everything lays perfectly. It's sexy hair. TN styled it right. I'd say for anyone in Arizona to YouTube what to do with your hair in the desert. As soon as my hair hit some humidity it looked gorgeous with this cut. Lisa, Lisa, Lisa!…read more Y'all, if you're looking for an amazing stylist, look no further. I'm someone who has done a lot to my hair over the years. I previously owned a modeling agency, and we were constantly changing hair styles and working with some of the best stylists in the world. After moving to the Sedona area, I had three disappointing experiences in a row--honestly, some of the worst hair I've ever had. I finally decided to make the trip to Scottsdale, where I knew I could find someone who truly cared about their craft. After doing some research, I chose this salon and booked with Lisa. In just one appointment, she completely understood what I wanted and delivered it flawlessly. With over 20 years of experience, she made what seemed impossible look effortless. She not only got me back to where I wanted to be--she exceeded my expectations. What I appreciated most was that she listened. Really listened. Then she combined that understanding with incredible skill and precision. On top of that, she's an absolute delight to spend time with. If you've been struggling to find a stylist you trust, I know how stressful that can be. Great hair makes such a difference, and we all deserve exceptional service and results. Run, don't walk, and book with Lisa. You'll be so glad you did! xoxo

Think twice before you go to this place! I honestly have…read morenever had an experience like this with a haircut, and I'm still incredibly frustrated and upset about it. I showed exactly what I wanted simple face framing and long layers but my hair was cut so unevenly that the layers didn't blend at all. There were random short pieces, completely different lengths, and the back was uneven and had no shape. It genuinely looked like a 5 year old had cut my hair, not a certified professional. Almost everyone who has seen my hair since has asked me the same thing: how could this possibly happen at a professional salon? Yes, I received a full refund, and I appreciate that. But I then had to go somewhere else to try to fix the damage. The second stylist had to take off even more hair, so I lost both the length AND the density of my hair just to make it look somewhat normal again. And even now, there is only so much that can be fixed. I have to wait for it to grow out. What frustrated me even more was how the situation was handled afterward. I asked the manager for their number because I genuinely wanted someone to explain to me HOW this happened. She never responded. I got my money back, but I felt absolutely no real empathy or understanding of what I was dealing with just scripted comments like I would be sad like you too and "Everybody loves this hairstylist. That completely misses the point. This is MY hair. I can't undo what was done. Giving me my money back doesn't give me back the length and density I lost or change how awful I feel every time I look at my hair. I wasn't looking for drama or anything extra from them. I just wanted someone to actually acknowledge how badly this went, take it seriously, and explain how something like this could happen with a professional stylist. I never got that.

She texted him personally to make a Saturday afternoon appointment for me and sent pictures of the wolf-cut I desired. I arrived on time for my 2pm appointment and was greeted by Thanh and seated immediately. I showed him the pictures again. Then he asked me if I wanted to shampoo my hair, which I agreed to. Then we got straight to work. At the end of my cut, he made sure I liked the result, to which I asked for my bangs a bit shorted and he readily obliged. I paid $45 (excluding an additional tip) in cash, but I didn't inquire further if they also accept card or if there's an additional fee for paying by card. I looked around the salon for a menu of costs of services, which he said there wasn't one. No problem, I plan on coming back for haircuts only anyway which I know are $45! Otherwise, I'll text him personally asking for other services if I want them! All in all, I was in and out the door at 2:00 and 2:30 respectively, literally (I looked at the clock). I was so happy with my haircut, especially for the price AND quick in/out time. Thank you Thanh for your amazing work!!!

I would rather go a salon that actually cares about their customer service and attention to detail at a higher cost - you're getting what you pay for, if not less. Firstly, my stylist was on her phone for a full 4 minutes in the middle of my 18-minute (fast? or rushed?) haircut without explanation; I would be more understanding if I were given a heads up about a personal emergency or something, but to simply step away from your client and text nonstop at the front desk without saying anything, is unacceptable. Secondly, I've never been to a salon where my hair was not washed prior to it being cut; until I came here. My hair was not even styled at the end (see photo of when I got home right after my appointment). Thirdly, it's the bare minimum to ask your customer if they like their haircut, or smile at the end. When I was paying at the front desk kiosk, my stylist went straight back to texting with the click clack of her fake nails on the phone screen. I stood at the desk for a good minute or so after payment was completed before she looked up, and quickly said "bye thank you". There were no other customers in the store except for the nail artist and her client in the shared salon space. I would NOT recommend this salon to any of my friends and advise you to get your haircut elsewhere if you care about professional service and a good haircut.

Root, Root for The Root Salon! Lauren Hart and her salon is one reason it would be hard to ever leave Phoenix. Best of the Best! This small, but chic hair salon serves all kinds of clients from the young and trendy to the mature-conservative types. Owner, Lauren Hart, is an expert at color, excels at cutting hair and, unusual for the profession, she is a savvy businessperson dedicated to quality service. I know, because, I have been a satisfied client for over 15 years, and I have watched her business grow, observing many a happy clientele. Most importantly, Lauren puts her clients' wishes and abilities first when cutting, coloring or applying product, and she makes sure that the other stylists do, too. All of the products used in her salon are of the highest quality and are for sale at prices that won't bust the budget. It can be scary to try out a new salon, but the risks are lowered when you make an appointment with Lauren. She listens to her clients and makes every effort to determine how they are going to care for their hair after leaving the shop. The Root salon has five chairs and offers a full slate of hair services [plus some other extras] in a contemporary setting. Everyone, including, salon-employees and independent stylists, make every effort to ensure that your experience is enjoyable by providing beverages, magazines, and an ambiance that is hip but relatively quiet [for example, all the stylists use hair dryers that cost more, but are designed to emit less noise]. For added fun, the salon also showcases local and out-of-state artists, including locally designed and made one-of-kind jewelry. So, male or female, if you are looking for a new cut, a color correction, or a new color direction, try out The Root. And do not despair; if you cannot get an appointment with Lauren, you are still in good hands with, Roxanne, Lauren's protégé of many years, or with one of Lauren's two up-and-coming stylists, both named Emily. read more

I am so thrilled to have found The Root, and even more so, my stylist , Emily B. several months ago. Since my first appointment in February, I have been back 3 times and this past Saturday I commented to Emily B. that I truly wished all salons were like The Root (I might be addicted). It is not only that Lauren Hart, the owner has combined the chic and calming ambiance of European design, culture, technology, and superior product, it is that each of her stylists (Emily B., Roxanne, and Emily C.) are an inspiration in their talent, knowledge, communication, not to mention their fabulous beauty and style sense. I have frequented top of the line salons from Connecticut to California and The Root embodies the perfect mix of subdued sophistication with impeccable skill. I always feel I am in expert hands with Emily B. Her ability to prescribe a total hair care regimen after creating gorgeous dimension and depth of color for me while still being completely cognizant to the over processed state of my hair amazes me more and more each visit. Emily B. is a consummate professional, as I originally came to her with hair ravaged and damaged by too many high profile highlights. I truly commend her as she is responsible for the transformation through careful prescription and care from brittle and wispy locks that are now on their way to healthy, strong, shiny and modern as well. Who says you can't have it all? Emily B. is a true gem, whose personality is invigorating and genuine, complete with custom Thank You notes, beverages of choice, deep conditioning treatments, and did I mention, top notch color and style talent. The cosmopolitan and consummate professional ladies at The Root should patent their model, passion for their clients, and incredible color and product line as the ultimate salon experience. read more

I had a boilage treatment in November 2016. I had very long and thin hair. Desiree was my hair stylist, she was very nice girl, At the time I mentioned that I have very sensitive hair, and my hair could burn very easy with chemicals, and she needs to watch out. She mentioned that she will make sure that will not happen to me, She made me waited over 40 minutes with bleach on it, and needless to say. I knew my hair got damaged, I couldn't see the damaged instantly, my hair started breaking out from certain areas, and I couldn't figure out what to do, I got my hair trimmed of almost 5 inch at Hairspendlilty, it didn't helped. The Salon called me couple of months later to reschedule an appt again, I told them my hair is damaged and I am not coming back to that salon, no one called me back to say sorry what happened to your hair.. It has been 5 months now, my hair still breaking from the areas where she bleached, and sadly I contacted them again, so this would not happen to someone else. I tried to spoke with the owner Lauren, and try to email her this is the response I received. "I would need to see your hair. You were seen in the salon over four months ago. Why are you just now contacting us? Lauren Hart The Root Salon 5813 North 7th Street #120 (602)277-4072 www.therootsalon.com" " Not I am sorry what we can do, let see your hair, and let's help you but this.. Honestly, they are not professionals, they want to make money fast. I would not go there if I were you. Especially if you have thin hair- I don't think they know what they are doing. Oh, by the way when I tried to call her today and explain the situation, Lauren hang up on me. I was only trying to get some help for my hair... read more

There's a reason this place gets a lot of good reviews. They earned them! I stopped by to "scope" the place out and inquire about what they could do with my hair. I was spoken to with care, not hype. No one tried to sell me on services or products. Made an appointment with Brittany for the next day. To start, I'm lady of a "certain age" which means that my hormones (or lack of them) have not been kind to my hair. Arizona water did the rest. I have been subjecting my hair to bad cheap haircuts at bargain places and it showed. I needed a deep cut, conditioning, and re-vamping. Brittany spent lots of time getting to know me and my problems before she touched my hair with a scissors. She gave me the best deep conditioning I have ever had. I could actually feel the silkiness return to my hair even at that stage. We agreed on how much needed to be cut and felt that a color correction needed to wait until my hair was healthier and a style was settled on. She had me check her progress with a mirror at every stage to make sure I was happy with what she was doing. Who does that? Someone who cares about their work, that's who. The end result was a total transformation. My hair actually moved! It was so fried prior to this that it was just stiff. When I came home my husband said that the difference between my bargain cuts and this one was that she sculpted the hair to my face, rather than just cut it. In addition to Brittany being amazing, the staff was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Thank you Root Salon and thank you big time to Brittany. read more

BEST HAIR COLOR IN PHOENIX!! Change that - BEST HAIR COLOR IN AZ!! Seriously. You can't go wrong. The team at The Root is thoroughly professional and always up to date on the "art" of hair color and hair style. They truly want you to look your best!! The salon is beautiful, stylish and friendly - just like the staff! I have been going to Lauren for about 11 years and she NEVER disappoints!!! Lauren is a savvy businesswoman - she REALLY knows her business inside and out and is always focused on the customer!! My hair is thick and wild and curly and has a mind of its own and Lauren has been able to tame it and even control it - which seems like a minor miracle!! I don't look nearly as scary as I used to all thanks to Lauren! And if you have naturally curly hair, you know what I'm talking about!! She should be Dr. Lauren!!!!! Sometimes I don't even recognize myself when Lauren gets through with me - and I mean that in a good way - I just wish I could figure out how to style my hair as well as she does!! I work my schedule around my hair appointments -- not the other way around. You will look forward to your next visit! The Root is a real treasure - discover it for yourself! You can thank me later!! read more

I've been getting my hair done with Emily for years! She never disappoints. She's taken me from natural to platinum, to rose gold, to lavender, back to platinum, to himalayan pink sea salt, to natural earth tones with golden baby lights... back to platinum. YOU GET THE PICTURE. Emily has taken me through the realms of color, length, and style! And I wouldn't have it any other way. Emily always takes extra care to ensure the cut and color is consistent and precise. My hair is always evenly colored throughout, never patchy! And when she takes me platinum, the blonde is never brassy. I always feel confident sitting down in Emily's chair. It should also be noted that her head massages while washing are to die for. And she's fantastic to talk with. I always look forward to my visits with her. Outside of Emily, ROOT salon itself is pretty swanky. They have a variety of yummy drinks and snacks available to enjoy while the treatment is done. Music is surprisingly not so annoying/cheesy as it can be at salons sometimes... The location is very pretty as well, and the whole of the staff has always been very helpful and kind to me. Well done all around! read more

I absolutely love this place! It is by far the best salon Ive come across in a really long time i went in an got my hair colored by Marla an let me tell you she did an amazing job on my hair an i have really long hair so usually when go into a salon to get it done the hair stylist almost always tries to talk me into cutting my hair an some more shit... Not at this salon Marla made me feel really comfortable and didn't even try to convince me into cutting my hair which is usually what happens when a stylist see's just how long my hair is so that tells me that Marla truly loves what she does and that its not just a pay check its a passion an for that I will most definitely be coming back to The Root Salon. Ive been to many salons since being out here in Phoenix and this one is hands down the best salon Ive ever been to Thanks again Marla and the rest of the staff for making my experience AMAZING i will most definitely be back in a couple weeks Marla you are my girl hands down anyone looking for a good stylist go in and ask for Marla she is your girl i promise you wont be disappointed! Well, my first experience at Root salon was not good. I left my appointment feeling like i had spoken a foreign language to my stylist. I was disappointed with the color and the expectation that was set and called to tell the salon just that. I immediately started searching for another salon to correct the color. Then, I got a call from the Root salon owner, Lauren. She asked me to come back in so she could take a look. I was skeptical- Would she tell me I was crazy? I agreed to see her and she was kind, understanding and did not make me feel uncomfortable for coming back in. Root salon is known for correcting color mishaps from other salons and Lauren is an expert and was humble when she had to correct one of her own stylist's customer. She personally did my hair that day-at no charge and asked me schedule a 2nd appointment- at no charge, to complete to correction. Lauren handled the situation is a very professional way, gained customer satisfaction and trust. I will returned to Root Salon as a loyal client. In addition, my hair looks fabulous! read more

I just wanted everyone who is in search of not only an amazing hair stylist (and color/extensions expert) but a wonderful person you must go to Michelle! My sister has been going to Michelle for about a year now. She is truly happy and now I see why. I recently had an awful color experience at another supposedly high end salon. I left in tears, I thought this could not be fixed. I was tired of placing my trust and hair on so many different salons. I went to Michelle so sad and unhappy.. I left SUPER SUPER happy! I can't tell you how good she made me feel from the moment I walked in. She assured me this was fixable and with time it would be completely corrected. Just from the first visit, my hair showed a major difference. All her products are wonderful. The color was even and turned out so nice. She makes sure everything looks perfect. Her assistant is also great! The place is just so relaxing. Michelle is truly a wonderful person to talk to as well. I hope you all chose Michelle! You will not regret it! read more

OMG I love the Root. I have been going to Lauren for the past eleven years and have faithfully stuck by her. Anytime I've considered moving out of Phoenix, the fact that I wouldn't have her as my hairdresser weighs in on my decision. Seriously. The Root is a gorgeous space and I always feel completely welcome there. The staff is professional, stylish and obviously take pride in staying current with fashion and cultural trends. That's not to say they are "trendy" -- they can be, if you want them to be. But the greatest strength of Lauren (and what she trains her crew to achieve) is the time and consideration they take with each and every client. With just a little communication, they will ask the right questions to determine what you want and they will give it to you every single time. I recently sent my boyfriend in to Lauren and he came back with the best haircut I've ever seen on him. I was so thrilled! Anyway, try them out - you'll be a client for life just like me! read more

This place is amazing! I really needed to get my bangs cut and I had read so many great reviews about this place so I decided to call and see if they could schedule me in and they did just that! I got off work at 1 and they were able to squeeze me in at 2:15... I told the receptionist that I needed someone that could understand my hair because I am an extremely picky person when it comes to my bangs. When I arrived, I was greeting immediately which was fantastic! I was also offered a beverage. Emily B was my stylist and let me say, I could not be happier! She was already informed about my bangs situation and was happy to talk through it with me. I cannot tell you how incredibly happy that made me. Emily B not only listened to me, but she was able to achieve exactly what I wanted. She cut my bangs according to how my hair sits rather than twisting and cutting them. Thank you Emily B for listening, I am in love and so is everyone else! read more

I first started with her before she was at Root Salon, and lucky for them, they have a regular customer now thanks to Emily :-)) The salon is also so cute and urban, the space is always bright and clean and they're super accommodating! My best friend and I have been getting our hair done together (both with Emily, naturally) and there's always an open chair nearby so we can sit and chatter while we take turns getting our hair done, and they have complimentary drinks!! Emily is an amazing hair stylist, I seriously cannot recommend her enough. I love my hair more every time I leave the salon. Plus, she's so much fun to talk to and has KILLER instincts when it comes to making the best hair decisions! If you want to breathe new life into your look, Emily's your girl! read more

Several months ago, I decided to ditch my long hair for good; I wasn't visiting a stylist that I really loved at the time, so I decided that was as good a time as any to find someone new. After searching around a bit, I found The Root Salon and booked my appointment with Dana to chop it all off. I haven't been this happy with my hair in years; Dana did a fantastic job choosing a style that suits me! I can't recommend him enough if you're looking for someone fun, enthusiastic, and extremely talented. I never really looked forward to my salon appointments until Dana started styling my hair! I always leave looking amazing, and have a great time chatting with him while I'm in the chair. It seriously feels like I'm just catching up with an old friend. My entire experience every time I visit The Root Salon is just wonderful, start to finish. Deciding to chop off all my hair was one of the best decisions I've ever made! read more

I am often in Phoenix on business and during my last visit, wanted to take advantage of some downtime and get a trim before heading back home. I found The Root Salon on Yelp and my concierge told me it was the best salon in Phoenix, so the bar was set high. I was NOT disappointed! My stylist was very thorough in her consult, and after I told her what I wasn't loving about my hair, she recommended I get some face-framing layers. She promised she wouldn't take too much length and as she was cutting my hair, I didn't think the little she was cutting would actually make a difference but it was probably one of the best hair cuts I've ever gotten. The vibe at Root is swanky without being snobby - which I really appreciated. But most of all, my hair looks divine! I met the owner (Lauren) on my way out and told her I would only be cutting my hair in Phoenix from now on! read more

A decade of loyalty to The Root Salon speaks volumes of its consistent, top-notch service. Dana, my stylist, is intuitive and versatile, effortlessly shifting between cuts and color treatments, even successfully adding a fun blue touch to my daughter's hair. Scheduling is a breeze, with proactive confirmations from their organized front desk, and appointments always starting punctually. The salon's ethos - from fostering relationships to championing fun and respect - is not just a statement on their website but a tangible reality lived out by every staff member. The accommodating atmosphere allows for both productive work visits and lively, engaging chats. The Root Salon, thanks to Dana, Laurèn, and the whole team, is a haven of rejuvenation! Looking forward to my next visit! read more

In need of a new hairstyle, and a change from my previous hairdresser, I decided to give The Root salon a try. I made an appointment with Roxanne, and was extremely impressed and pleased with my results. I have always been a little apprehensive of a major change to my cut or color, but Roxanne made me feel totally at ease, and I completely trusted her to do what she felt was best. She was so incredibly sweet and friendly, and I walked out of the salon feeling AMAZING. I couldn't stop looking in the mirror at my new hair. The change was drastic, but well worth the leap of faith. Roxanne made my hair look fabulous, with a natural glow, and stunning cut. I will continue to go see her for all my hair needs. Thanks so much Roxanne! You did a great job! read more

Well I just found about this great website called yelp and wanted to give a great big shout out to the girls at The Root. We have been going here for about 3 years and I have never met such a wonderful group of fun, caring, and enjoyable people. I wish I worked there. No one ever has a bad day! I have always had anxiety about getting my haircut so I hit the lotto with these girls. I see Roxanne every 3 weeks and it is like visiting a friend. I now get facial hair waxed, which if you knew me, was never going to happen. Roxanne encouraged me to try it, and now she rips the hair out every appointment. I am just saying if you want a great cut, with a great atmosphere, with great people, try this place. Maybe I will see you there! I promise it is worth it. read more

I recently moved to Phoenix and was looking for a new hair salon. I decided to give this place a try for a basic haircut, blow dry, and curls, as I have thick, curly hair. While the haircut itself was decent, the blow dry was a letdown. My hair felt damp at the top, and when I mentioned it to my stylist, Amanda, she "fixed" it, but unfortunately, the area by my scalp was still wet once I left. It was frustrating, especially after paying for a service that didn't meet expectations. It's never a good feeling when you leave a salon with your hair not fully done right. Given the overall experience, I won't be returning. If you have thick, curly hair, I would recommend looking elsewhere for better results. read more

After not getting my hair done since February I couldn't stand it anymore! I had so many grays I didn't even know I had!! I called the salon, and booked an appointment on a Sunday. They have 4 stylist on Sunday so I felt very safe. If you are nervous like me go on a slower day. The receptionist is great at helping you figure that out! I decided to get a balayage since it starts below the root. When it grows out it will look more natural, and I cut lots of dead ends off for healthier hair!! Yaneli was amazing! She listened to exactly what I wanted, and delivered! She saw my vision, and I'm i. Live with my hair!! I'm so happy I took the plunge and went for it!! read more

I have been going to The Root for almost a year now after a terrible experience in which my hair was chemically fried off (at a different salon). It is now finally growing back and is a pretty blonde thanks to the stylists here. I first saw Lauren back in the beginning when my hair was an inch long and a disaster. For the past several months I've had my color done by Emily Claire and have been completely satisfied every time. Today, we decided to put in some low lights to break up the blonde a little..EC knew exactly what I was going for and my hair turned out better than I had hoped. I am very grateful to everyone at The Root for all their help! read more
