Came here for one thing the Root beer & left with a Rootbeer and a float! Loved the Rootbeer! To get the Rootbeer it toon about 5 minutes. They did mention if we got food it would take 45 minutes... which I was not willing to wait. However, it was packed, lots of people. As it was my first time I didn't not know you had to order in your car or eat at the "bar" on the stools to be served. Which was fine, I just didn't know before coming. It is a cash only so when you come make sure you have that or pay via Venmo. It look like a classic place that people bring their families too enjoy a beautiful day at! The Root Beer Stande is out here being nasty to people asking simple questions about their "bucket" sundaes and deleting comments when customers point out that they're overreacting and being rude. Their food isn't that good either. Way too large of a menu and only a couple of items that they make just okay. On my last visit, I ordered their noodles and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were dry and flavorless. I actually had to add some milk to them and doctor them up once I got home to even make them somewhat edible. The noodles were over salted. I have hyponatremia, so I add salt to EVERYTHING. I couldn't have added salt to these noodles if I wanted to. Oh, and my root beer float was only half full. It was a great place when I was a kid. The food was good. In fact the way they are wrapping it in foil instead of the wax paper much better. But the service needs work. I guess don't park in the back row. Five cars came in after I did and got service. In fact they pulled in parked under the canopy placed their order and pull back to the back row. I got tired of waiting so I place my to go order. Just after I got done ordering here comes a car hop. She asked if I needed anything I told her I placed a online order. Didn't ask my name or anything like that. So the online order app shows status three bars 1 preparing next cooking the third I guess ready. Food is good. Time is a huge issue. There are only 2 waitresses and it is beyond packed. Our waitress wants to discuss everyone's life story, (listening to her converse with patrons in the other cars around us) plans etc rather than scooting along. Attempted to eat at the Root Beer Stande today. It was a gloomy day and they were on the slower side. Staff came out to give us a menu and literally never returned. As we sat there waiting for staff to return we observed an old woman (not sure if she's an owner or not) but she approached a younger female staff member in the process of talking with a customer and yelled at her. The old woman walked up with a tray and it spilled everywhere. They attached the tray to the customers car and it spilled again. Hot mess! We saw a truck pull in and same thing happened to them, given menus but no order taken for an extended period of time. We eventually just left after sitting in frustration. This place has gone to absolute trash in recent years. I've gone to the Root Beer Stand since I was a kid and staff were always so friendly and attentive. The prices are also absurd. You can make a game of how many times you read how many up charges there are for everything. I've never seen a menu to date with so many up charges and the fact they STILL don't accept anything but cash is wild in today's time. It's really classless to put Venmo and PayPal options for up charges too. They may have a few newer ideas with ice cream buckets but their lack of service, snails pace of speed, and behind the times practices aren't going to save the place. Went here for the first time for the Eclipse party. What a great excuse to eat ice cream! I ordered the Windy City Dog ($7.99) while hubby got the Cod Fish sandwich ($7.99) & a side of fries ($5.29). We both got Dole Whips for dessert. Hubby didn't even want to go here but ended up liking his cod sandwich & Dole Whip. Both of us agreed the fries were way overpriced & not that good. My "Chicago dog" was a little pricey & just okay - way too much mustard that overwhelmed the other flavors. I would order it again with the mustard on the side. The cod sandwich was huge & tasty - highly recommend. Our car hop took good care of us & we tipped her accordingly. We would like to return here & support a locally owned family restaurant. Being that I absolutely love Root Beer, I had to give the Root Beer Stande a shot! Pulled up and sat for a moment, I thought this was a car hop but I figured that maybe things had changed so I got out of the car and that prompted the waitress to come and greet me. She gave us an updated menu that had a lot more to choose from. I ordered the Hanky Panky Burger basket. The Hanky Panky is a bacon cheeseburger with a special sauce and grilled cheese sandwiches for buns. The basket came with fries and a drink, so I obviously got a root beer. The waitress advised me that they are cash only, but she could accept Cash App. I ended up Cash Apping her for my meal and the food came out fairly quickly. The burger looked amazing and it was! My only complaint with my burger would be that I wish it had a little more of the secret sauce. The fries were standard-issue crinkle fries, but they were hot so that was a plus! The house root beer was a bit underwhelming because it lacked the kick that usually comes with most root beers. I will likely try the red cream soda when I return. My wife got the Phillio Cheesesteak and she said the meat was good, but the veggies were heavily salted. She also got an order of fried mushrooms, and she really enjoyed them. While visiting the Dayton Ohio area we stopped at the Root Beer Stande. I saw that it was the Retro Old Fashioned Curb Service and it was Hot Dogs and Root Beer what a wonderful Nostalgic foodie adventure. We pulled in and the waitress was there "Toot-sweet". I ordered 2 Hot Dogs with Chili, Mustard and Onions. They do not put Cole Slaw on the Dogs here I also ordered a large Root Beer, which I was hoping was HOMEMADE but not..Tony had his own Beverage of Choice in the car already. The food was good! The Chili or sauce on the dog was very good but the onions were strong from being a little old maybe a day or so. But I would eat here again, strong onions don't keep me away!!! The server was already on her way to us to take our order. I mentioned we'd never been before, hand us a menu and said take your time, she'd be back. You park, and they come to serve you, using a tray on your window if you want. I was here for the root beer, mainly, but had some lunch too, and it was all good. The root beer came in a heavy frosted mug. Nice head, great flavor. Tasted homemade (though they have a Frostop sign, so I'm not sure.) I had the "super burger" which is two patties, mayo, lettuce, tomato, cheese, etc. A really good burger. Thin patties with good flavor. Good bun and toppings. Also had fried cauliflower. Again, very good. Service was good. Prices are reasonable (all of the above for $10.) It's a nice place for nostalgia and root beer, but also a really good lunch or dinner. read more

This is my sad story. Hadn't been in a lifetime, so just for fun headed down for lunch one day. Pulled in and there were quite a few cars. It just looks run down and sad. You can't order from window during covid, and there just aren't any menus or speaker to order from. You have to wait for carhop. Got on line to look at menu. We had lots of time to do that, since we sat there about 15 minutes, watching carhop chatting it up with what we assumed were regulars. A new car pulls in front of us and parks. Two minutes later the carhop takes their order. We decide to leave and go where our business will be appreciated. I wish this business well, but I won't return anytime soon. My girlfriend and I went here for lunch on July 5th, 2023. I got a foot long chili dog. My girlfriend got a regular sized chili dog and regular sized slaw dog. We ordered a shareable order of tator tots. This looks like a older establishment with drive up service similar to Sonics. They don't roller skate like similar establishments did in the 1950s but they do go to each car and take your order. There are also window trays if you choose to eat in your car. The ambiance is like an old drive in diner and when we went there was quite a few customers. Service was great and portion size's generous. The only downside was this is a cash only establishment. We ordered take out but still ordered through our car. The person taking our orders did give us paper menus but asked for them back because they said they we're running out of them. I would recommend supporting this local establishment with the caveat it may take a bit to get your order depending on how many cars are there. It did seem like they needed more help but the food was awesome and portions were generous. Prices likewise were reasonable and I would go again. I have ordered from them previously via DoorDash but they no longer deliver to my location even though I'm only about 5 1/2 miles from them. I didn't order any rood from the stand itself so I can't speak to the food but I can speak to the service. My friend placed an order from Granny Franer's for pick up and I volunteered to pick it up since I live closer. She picked a time for pick up and paid online. I've never been to the stand before or ordered from the food truck through fb before so I didn't know exactly how the process would work. Pulled in and got out to see the food truck was boarded up shut. I got out of the car and an employee immediately shouted if I needed help. I explained I was there for the food truck. She said "What food truck" so I pointed. "They aren't open" I explained that I had placed a pick up order. She yelled at me that I had to pick up from the stande window. She was extremely rude and nasty the way she spoke to me. All she had to say was "oh you just pick up from the window" and that would've been fine. Even when I got to the window she was yelling at me about how much I owed and when I tried to explain it was already paid she wouldn't stop saying I owed money. My parents have been bringing me here for as long as I can remember and now that I'm an adult my mom and I come for lunch often when I'm off work and the weather is nice. We love coming and sitting in the drive in area. They have a huge menu and everything I've ever had is amazing but more often than not I get just a classic footlong hot dog with mustard only. My sister had the Lori Burger, I had the deluxe bacon burger and my brother in law and I split a chili dog too. The kids each had hot dogs.
