Mug of Rootbeer and Jukebox

Stopped here on a whim after the strawberry festival since most of the vendors had been out of food. WHAT A GREAT SURPRISE! Classic old timey drive in where they will still bring trays to the car that sit on the window! We opted to eat inside because it was hot out. Very friendly small town service. Great atmosphere. The big screen TV made it a little too modern though. FOOD: We had the root beer, (sooo good. Even came in a frosty mug!), fried mushrooms with ranch, coney dog (homemade chili!), and Reuben dog. Everything was delicious!!! Would love to go back and try some of their other food and ice cream!

Always the best. I grew up in Troy so this is a must stop place. It's never disappoints, even in a pandemic.

I've been visiting Tipp City for the past ten years to see my in‑laws, and every trip we make our…read moreusual stops--the Hotel Gallery across the street, Harrison's, the familiar favorites. And for all those years, my wife kept saying, "We really should try Sam & Ethel's." Somehow, this was the first time we finally made it happen--and I'm glad we did. We came in for breakfast the day before heading back home. We arrived around 9 a.m., and here's a tip for first‑timers: call ahead to get on the waitlist. You don't need to be present, and it can save you a little time. We thought we were next, but another couple who had called ahead slipped in before us. It felt a bit unfair in the moment, but honestly, good for them--they used the system the way it's meant to be used. Once seated, everything that followed was exactly what a classic hometown breakfast spot should deliver. The menu is full of comforting options--silver dollar or plate‑size pancakes, buckwheat or regular, with or without pecans, all served with hot syrup. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. I ordered the BELT (Bacon, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwich, which was excellent. They asked if I wanted cheese and offered several options; I chose cheddar, though it didn't end up on the sandwich. Honestly, it was still great without it. I also tried a silver dollar buckwheat pancake with pecans, and it was fantastic--nutty, warm, and just the right amount of indulgent. The coffee was a little weak for my taste, but that was the only small miss. I also sampled some of my wife's breakfast burrito and my mother‑in‑law's toast and hash browns. The hash browns were especially memorable--you could really taste the potatoes, thicker and less fried than what you'd find at a Waffle House. The buttered toast was excellent too, simple but done perfectly. And I have to mention our host, who delivered one of the funniest, most unexpected lines of the morning. She walked up and said, "Can I hit anyone up..." then paused just long enough for me to wonder what was coming next, before finishing with, "...with coffee." I was briefly alarmed, then immediately reassured--and I couldn't help but laugh. It was such a genuine, human moment that added to the charm of the place. Everyone at our table enjoyed their breakfast, and the wait--especially for a Saturday morning--was surprisingly reasonable. My father‑in‑law picked up the check, which was a thoughtful way to end a really pleasant meal. After a decade of visiting Tipp City, I'm glad we finally made it to Sam & Ethel's. It's easy to see why it's a local favorite, and it's definitely earned a spot on our regular rotation from now on.

Took a while to get a table, get the table cleaned off and get a menu due to being under staffed. Once the waitress came to our table everything was wonderful. Very kind, helpful, knowledgeable server. Our food came out quickly and perfectly. We both ordered the skillet. It was incredible. One of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a long time. Well prepared, delicious ingredients to make an incredibly delightful dish. The breakfast skillet was so good. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked. The sausage gravy was flavorful and delicious. The bacon was crisp and was the perfect flavor addition. My eggs were cooked perfectly (I asked for basted-they were perfect!) Everything was incredible. The biscuits were so good. A little underdone but perhaps the was on purpose? They were really good. My son added pancakes to his order. They looked a little overly done, but tasted good. Portion size was huge. Ambiance was very mom and pop shop---very close quarters. Only one small restroom. Great restaurant with excellent food!!! Just know what you're getting into. Probably not very handicapped accessible due to stairs and small restroom and tight quarters, but delicious food with kind waitstaff. Go for the food, not the ambience.

Went for lunch just before Christmas, and the entry was so cozy, I didn't mind waiting by the fire for my friends to arrive. Once seated (we luckily had reservations!!) we shared the fried brie app, which was a great start. I ordered the wild mushroom bisque, a rich, delicious meal all on its own... Go for it!! One friend got the butternut squash grilled cheese (looks GOOD!!) and her hubby got the salmon. Everything was GREAT, including our seating in the vault. We were full, but couldn't resist their dessert offerings... Their carrot cake is an EXPERIENCE!!! Put this place on your list... Fancy, not fussy, BEAUTIFUL setting, great service, and wonderful, CREATIVE foooooooood!! YUM!!!

The first thing we noticed was a the cozy entrance, complete with fireplace. We were greeted and treated promptly and our server, Madison, was welcoming and knowledgeable. We ordered the Nut Crusted Fried Brie as an appetizer. It's served with homemade hot pepper jelly that was sweet with just the right amount of "hot". Our ordered consisted of a cup of Wild Mushroom Soup, which was just amazing! My husband ordered the Chicken Pecan Sandwich and I ordered the Farole Island Salmon on spring greens. Since it was our first visit, and definitely not our last, we each received a complementary, Butter and Sugar Cherry Pecan Mini Bundt Cake. Thank you so much for outstanding service and a delicious meal.
