This place was wonderful. I came with my parents and it really is a step back in time. I also encourage to look at the menu prices because there is nowhere you can still get good for those prices. The people working there were very nice. You order at a counter and pick it up at the same place and sit at a booth anywhere you want. It's very nostalgic in there my parents were big fans. I had a chicken salad sandwich, fries, and a side of potato salad and it was all pretty good. I ate it all and my parents had a burger and a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and they loved there's. K's is a legend. I grew up going here. The current owner, Michael,'is awesome and has continued that legacy. We don't often (to take care of our cholesterol, etc) but even when we walk by the window doing other business in downtown Troy, if Michael sees us from behind the counter, he will wave and smile through the window. We were in Troy for the solar eclipse and decided to stop into K's for breakfast. The retro sign outside caught our eye so we had to check them out. They originally opened in 1935 so it has a very homey diner feel. It was clean and well taken care of. We ordered at the counter, then seated ourselves. It definitely has a townie feel but we didn't feel too out of place with our matching Eclipse tshirts. The food was ready quickly and was very good. FIGHTING INFLATION!! I went for breakfast but ended up getting lunch/dinner options. Sit yourself then go up to the counter to order. I got a Hamburger, eggs, onion rings, fries and a Frosted Malt. This place is like a old 60's diner. It has counter seating and booths. Our first time eating here and we didn't know that if you don't sit at the counter you have to go up and order, only noticed after seeing someone else go up. We ordered burgers and fries, single for my wife and a double for me. The patties are small and thin on a full size bun, would you be better on slider buns because it was way to much bread for the meat. Cheese on the burger wasn't melted and not getting waited on at booths will keep me from going back. Shockingly bad service for just plain Jane food. To start, there is no signage when you walk in telling you where or order or sit. After finally figuring it out by asking another customer, I waited at the counter for over 5 minutes while everyone talked and no one took my order. Finally, a young guy looked up at me and said "We aren't rude, we will get to you soon." I finally ordered from an older woman who proceeded to get my drink order wrong. No big deal, accidents happen- and I was told to take a seat and they'd call my name to bring my food. 30 mins later, they finally called my name- and had messed up my order. It took another 5 mins to flag down a woman to talk to who then got the woman who took my order. The order taker then proceeded to argue with me about what I had ordered until I pulled out my phone and showed her the typed out order that I had brought to the counter and read from. Another 5 mins later and finally the missing food appears. I get that the vibe is supposed to be 50s diner but that doesn't mean the service speed has to be as slow as the 50s. read more

My only complaint is I do wish they'd have more protein options as I personally don't eat beef or pork. But, duh, this IS a hamburger shop, so... I decided to try this hamburger diner for the first time on Jan 29th 2025 at 2 pm. I walked in and they were about 5 or 6 workers and about 6 customers sitting down. There are signs for carry out but nothing says what to do for dine-in. I stand at the counter and not a single worker acknowledges my existence. Not a hello, how are you doing, you need to be at this register, nothing. No one even talked to me. No one even looked at my direction. I was nobody to these people. It wasn't busy at at all. I waited 8 whole minutes until someone who passed by me 4 times finally told me to wait. Not a hello. Nothing. Just wait. I have never had this horrible of a customer experience at a restaurant. I would give negative stars if possible. Don't go there. It's a huge waste of time. Rudest people ever. read more

This place used to be excellent. It has its own set of locals who hold it up. You can't deny the food is nostalgic in a sense and you're going to a burger joint, so expect that. Some get all worked up about their ordering process. Don't let that deter you. This place has always ordered at the counter. There's a big sign that says so. Instead, I got an egg and cheese sandwich on toast and "hash browns," which turned out to be one McDonald's style potato patty. That and a cup of coffee, and I was out of there for under(whelmed) $5.00. Order your meal at the counter, then find a seat at the SUPER authentic, cozy, oooozing old-style country charm counter or one of the booths. If I were a mean, awful person, or actually a living, breathing basket of unfulfilled expectations, I'd keep complaining, but this place is what it is, a wonderful cultural institution that's been doing what it does (with or without my approval!!) since 1932!!
