Yelp considers 3-Stars to be Okay. My experience is 2.5 stars. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger. The good news: - It was made to order - Properly seasoned - Good beef flavor - Fresh, crisp veggies - Cheese was fully melted - Fresh, generic, white bread bun The not so good news: - Over-cooked, waaay over-cooked - Bacon had a burnt flavor - Bun crushed while being wrapped too tight in wax paper. Will I return? Yes. I like the bones of this operation. Busy! Plenty of other things on the menu that I want to try, including soul food items. read more

Crusty McG did a review here & I was in the area (and didn't want to cook). They were out of a few things (so do get there early, they are busy). The cheese burger was amazing as were the fries. The veggies were good. I like the cornbread, but it wasn't sweet enough for my ol' man. I'm interested in trying their ribs after tasting the burger. This place has the BEST burgers. I always get a cheeseburger with everything and fries for less than $10. It's super busy though so call ahead and order if you're in a time crunch. Only complaint is the employees can be rude and they don't always answer the phone to take to go orders. Gotta check this place out the food is worth the trip downtown. read more

I had read about this place and I don't get up to Dayton a lot, but I had to try it. The menu looked impressive and vast and I loved the Kitschy name. I believe the building is an old Roy Roger's . Bathroom is on the outside of the building . The interior is of the TGI Fridays school of design with various old timey items arranged to give some visual appeal. The place seem clean and well kept. If you are expecting cloth napkins, you might be an idiot and maybe you should go somewhere else. My Girl and I both had the 2 piece chicken and I had to try the Beef Bbq. The chicken was perfectly fried and delicious( get some extra salt and pepper if you are that guy though) I enjoy the hot cause as well. Ten cents extra. Treat yourself! The sides are meh. Just fine, but nothing life altering. The beef bbq was not what I was expecting! It's not shredded beef but hamburger. Think sloppy Joe with some jerk sauce. Surprisingly, I like it fine. I'll probably order it next time too because it's unlike anything I've ever had anywhere else. Service was professional and polite enough. Again, if you were expecting big fake smiles and fake excitement and being so lucky to have you present, stay home , ok. Better than the fast food service in my hood, for real. Give it a shot. I normally don't eat ribs but babyyy it tasted amazing and the sauce was so good not the bbq but the one that looked close to it. I never had ribs that was easy getting meat off the bone and juicy. Mash potatoes good, I do like my greens with turkey juices/leg meat with it but everyone makes it different I put hot sauce on mine it was good. I had stopped eating there because of poor service! They don't answer the phone for call in orders, the drive thru is closed, and customer service is often horrible. One of the best hamburgers I have had in my life! This burger took me back to my childhood and it is obvious that they have "Mastered" the Perfect Burger. Everything we tried here was really good, including the Greens. Crew was super friendly and helpful while being constantly busy. When I return, besides my double burger, I am going to try some wings. They're "the burger master" so I probably should have had a burger. Instead I chose the ribs. They were decent. Not great. Not bad. Just decent. I've had better. For sides, I chose the green beans (and got black eyed peas) and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was very good. Nice cheesy flavor, some crispness and firm noodles. This was the best part. This is a neighborhood locally owned establishment. Pretty straightforward place, chicken, ribs and burgers. Cash only. I believe this was a former burger king, it has a kitschy country interior atmosphere that works. The kitchen is open for viewing and was extremely clean on my visit. Food was good, but not great, however It's a good value for the price! I only had a smash burger but was satisfied. I regret not getting the fried okra. Service was fine and I have no complaints. If you're a rude MO-FO i would imagine you're gonna get that in return. Full disclosure in regards to cleanliness, I've been in the food business 20+ years, owed a food truck before they were popular. Servsafe certified, etc. Long story short upon my visit the kitchen appeared well run and clean. I observed the flat top cook cleaning/scraping the grill after almost every item served on a busy lunch. My biggest complaint with this restaurant is they do not answer the phone. I've called repeatedly and phone is either busy, or they answer and hang up or no one answers at all. Today I wanted to place a $200-300 catering order and no one answered the phone!!!!!! I give up, I shouldn't have to come in to place a catering order. This is not McDonalds and historically someone always answered the phone at this restaurant. Today, they do not and I encourage the mgmt to step up their customer service and answer the phone!!! This place is good. I only tried a double cheeseburger so this review is based of of one thing, but that burger was good & tells me this is a place to check again. Nice sized burger, about the size of your standard fast food burger. But that is the end of those comparisons. The burger itself is grilled to where it gets a slight grill crust on it. That is the key feature of the burger & give it the flavor of an old school diner or burger joint. It's rare to find something like that anymore. Meat quality seemed real good, and definitely not fast food fare. Decent amount of standard burger toppings which seemed fresh. So overall good unique burger that calls back to the past. Note I visited during covid times. You can't order in the restaurant, but can call in an order & pick it up or use the drive through. The process were fantastic very reasonable, there are plenty of places in Dayton that say" we have the best burgers in town" will let me use say this they might say it but Ms.Kerry the owner and her staff prove it. So a group of us went to Benjamin's for a weekend lunch. Once you walk in, you place your order cafeteria style, and pay at the cashier. The sides are on display in case you haven't made up your mind on what to get. For me, I got the fried chicken with a side of mac n cheese and collard greens. And, the meal came with a biscuit. I also shared a side of the onion chips. Overall the meal was great, with just a shake too much of salt on everything. It wasn't too much where you couldn't enjoy your meal though. Because I had a great lunch! The fried chicken was well made, crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside. the mac n cheese was okay, not bad. I would get it again. The greens were good too. I didn't eat my biscuit because it came out cold. But I had some great onion chips. Straight out of the fryer. The people who work here are pretty nice, and I would probably stop by Benjamin's again for some great fried chicken if I'm in the area. I used to go to this spot over twenty years ago. I now work in the area and I wanted to try it again. Big mistakes. I decided to go with the three piece chicken dinner. The chicken was so salty and tasted old (the thigh was not fresh or over cooked). The green beans were ok but the mixed greens were disgusting. It truly tasted like they took it out of a can and placed in on my plate. That's a shame because I was looking forward to having some good fried chicken. Please change your greens to fresh greens and lay off on the salt. read more

The mac & cheese and the fried cornbread are super good too. Very yummy desserts, too, and lots of choices. You go up & order at the counter. A lot of the food is right there for you to see, other than the burgers. Once your order is ready, then they set your tray out & you take it to your table. Be sure to have CASH MONEY. No plastic is accepted. It gets really busy at lunch time. The thing about the place that is unique & really lets you know how detail-minded the managers are is that the dining room is filled with knick-knacks of all kinds & they are all sparkling clean with ZERO dust or cobwebs. Cute family restaurant, great juicy burger and hot crispy onion chips. My husband had their fried chicken, not overly seasoned. Crispy, hand breaded outside with moist, tender meat. And it didn't drip grease like the fast food chicken places. The restaurant is decorated with old signs and memorabilia and was clean. I have given this place so many tries, just because of its notoriety in the Dayton area. But their food is just down right bland and boarder line disgusting. I went back today and decided to get a cheeseburger... like how can you mess that up? Well they managed to do just that by putting some kind of liquid cheese in place of the cheddar cheese that I asked for on my burger. And no, not just a little, but they freakin drenched my burger in it. I couldn't stomach it, I took one bite and had to throw the rest in the garbage. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but the inside of the place is very different. It's nice and clean, so that makes a difference. The first thing I had from their menu was a classic cheeseburger with all of the trimmings. The vegetables were crisp and cold, the cheeseburger hot and melty. And I must admit, the burgers are soo good, I only ate here once a while ago in 2010. Now im older, getting into it, I can honestly say its a classic. They have a drive thru for carryout orders, you can even eat inside. The prices are a steal, 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 drinks under $15! I will def come here again, the customer service is amazing, the location can be shaky but im ensuring you its a safe place.
