After reading the reviews we had to try this place. We went there Monday night. Since it was a new place I wasn't sure if I wanted to try something new so I ordered baba ganoush( you can never go wrong with this) while my husband ordered the challenger. Baba ganoush came with pita which was nice , then I tried the challenger which was perfect the sauce , cheese , meat it was yummy. The baklava & lady finger were yummy too. We then ordered the gyro and to our surprise it was amazing . We were so happy with how the food tasted that we had another round of baklava & lady finger. Though lady finger lacked a bit of sweetness as compared to baklava . It was still good definitely a must try. Overall a great place. Perfect portions, taste & freshness. I hope to have a similar experience when I visit again. A must go place ! read more

I stopped in between classes today because I was hungry and it smelled pretty good from the street. After ordering a cheeseburger and fries, I had expected to wait maybe five or ten minutes before taking my order to-go and being on my way. Instead, I had to wait 30 minutes. 30 minutes for a burger and fries. The fries were good, the burger was alright, but neither were worth the wait. Update as of 4/14/16: Today, I decided to give The Rock another shot. Perhaps the last time I visited was a fluke, as today my order only took about nine minutes to prepare and the Manager himself approached me to personally apologize about my previous experience. I got a nice feeling about this place upon walking in the door, pleasant atmosphere, very clean & plenty of seating. We ordered at the counter & as I hadn't been here before, I asked the server what her favorite thing is & she recommended the chicken wrap so I ordered it! Hubby got a fish sammie & we shared an order of hummus. The hummus was nice & garlicky & came w/ warm slices of flat bread, yum! The chicken wrap was delicious, moist grilled chicken, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes & a tasty sauce on nice, fresh flatbread. The fish looked good too, not a heavy breading on it & the hubby was pleased. A big plus on service? The young woman who had recommended the wrap to me came over to see if I'd liked it. :) We've just recently moved to Normal & this is close to home so they'll get used to seeing us, next time I'll try the falafel! read more

They are known for their gyros and they certainly do not disappoint. They have the best gyro in BN- great flavor, not super greasy, and good charred bits on the edges. The super gyro has feta cheese and black olives in addition to the normal onion, tomato, and tziki. The gyro burger is a rediculous amount of meat, you certainly won't leave hungry. Their baklava and falafel are consistently awesome too. While the gyros are their strength, their fries are a close second. Some of the best fries I've had, regardless of location. A great place for a quick lunch or dinner or you can call ahead and get it to go. The only downside is they do not offer delivery, but there is a lot of parking nearby. read more

I visited this place on 3/26/2018 I found the restaurant to be very clean and the service was fast . I enjoyed the Italian beef sandwich with fries and a drink . This is one of my two favorite places to get a gyros in B-N. The gyros are off the "spit" and then grilled and they aren't greasy. I hate when a place has the deli sliced gyro meat. Wasn't a fan of the fries. They had a coating that made them too crispy. My GF had the cheeseburger and it was just okay. read more

Great place for Mediterranean. This is NOT fast food restaurant, as it is made to order and takes 5-10 minutes to come out. I have ordered their burger too which is delish! I love this place, ate there 3 times in one week the first time I tried it. Had their gyros and their fries are suspiciously delicious! The fries are just regular fries, but I have no idea why they taste so much better!! Price is good, perfect for the average college student, and right in the neighborhood with convenient parking. Since my original review the Rock has moved to Uptown Normal after being displaced by another apartment building/chain restaurant monstosity on Main Street. While I honestly do miss the ambiance (if you can call it that) of the original Rock on Dale Street, the new location is just awesome. You can sit in the window and watch people passing by on North Street inside a modern yet very tastefully designed restaurant. I think the prices went up a bit to compensate for the added expense of the new restaurant...and they spent some serious bucks on this place...but it's totally worth it. They also have outdoor seating in the summer which is usually always taken up but if you can snag a table there's not a better location in Uptown. The gyros can't be beat and the chicken philly is just sublime. The fries are also the best fries you will find in BloNo hands down. I've never had any of the dessert out of the case since the prices already lighten my wallet enough, but it looks good also. Really like The Rock. It's new location uptown Normal is very nice, and VERY close to the Normal Theatre...a plus! The seating is ample, although a little close together. The staff seem to know what they are doing, also nice. Hummus is just ok- had it one time, really good, and another it was just ok. Husband LOVES the gyros. The Rock is one of those places that you can go and enjoy amazing food and service. Nestled next to the Normal Theater, The Rock serves all sorts of food, but is best known for their Gyro's. The meat is tender and the pita is warm. I've never had a bad experience here. The staff is awesome too and the owner is normally on site everyday. Great place to dine!!! read more

Great food... Had the gyro and fries. Def worth the trip around the block several times looking for parking! Service was excellent and place was very clean! In town for the weekend and found this place just down the block from my hotel. The smell of Mediterranean spices wafting down the street was intoxicating! I had the jalapeno poppers and wings to start and both were perfect. However, the best was yet to come in the firm of the Greek Salad with Gyro. The meat was perfectly cooked, tender but with that crispy edge and the flavor was fantastic. I would have loved to have one of their gyro sandwiches, but I gave up bread for Lent. I was overjoyed to see the salad option. I only wish I could have the baklava dessert. :( read more

Every time I eat here, the food is always hot and always delicious. Personal favorite combo: 1/2 lb gyro cheeseburger with medium fries. It consistently fills me to satisfaction. Their gyros are quite delicious. I like to come here after a long day of classes or work, hang back, and just enjoy the food. You could call it comfort food, but it's way better than that. It's the perfect food for relaxing and simply enjoying. If it sounds like I'm gushing, I admit I kind of am. But that's because it is just that good. I wholly recommend trying it. read more

Came based on yelp reviews but was underwhelmed. Chicken in the chicken gyro tasted artificial. The felafels in the felafel wrap were very small compared to those I've had before. Followed the advice of reviews. Big mistake. Food was gross and disgusting. Never had gyros cut into greasy chunks. Salad with chicken has itsy bitsy chicken cubes. Fries had a coating but were mealy and tasteless. Food was the kind you spit out. Don't go here. Ick read more

Our new favorite in the area! We're from Pittsburgh & have really awesome gyros in our Southside so we usually won't try them unless they're from there or a Cart in NYC .. We gave these gyros a shot and they did not disappoint. Only small critique would be they cut their onions very large and they're very strong so I just pick them off (wont get them next time) so far we have gone twice and the gyros were consistent. We had take out and came home with everything another good sign. The Rock Salad I finally tried it was awesome! The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the chicken slightly tasted like bacon and I'm not a bacon fan so I ate a few pieces. But I know there's a ton of bacon lovers out there so you will love this. We also tried the Gyro Burger another hit. The french fries were nice and crunchy. read more

The place was Rock'in for lunch today! We had Italian beef and a gyro. Both were enjoyed. Great family atmosphere.

If you have an itch for Mediterranean food this is your fix. Decent portions but the toppings can be polar opposites. Sometimes sandwiches are loaded and the other half of the time you can count on one hand the number of tomato slices onion slivers and pickles. Overall it's tasty food at a good price read more
