Been going to rice box since they were at UH at the food truck and John was still working on the truck. I brought my wife and she fell in love with it from the beginning! I am also a restaurant owner and I know how ratings can make or break businesses. So that's why I'm still giving them 5 stars, and because they've always been great and our go to spot. However, our past 5 visits or so have been very mediocre in taste. We always split the same thing, a Mongolian beef and sub for cauliflower, extra veggie egg-roll. Lately, we haven't been able to even finish it! Not sure what this gooey sauce they are putting on the veggies but it's not good at all. We tried a different dish for the FIRST TIME ever (orange chicken)! My wife and I have been getting the same thing for over 4 years now! Never a change in order. But we wanted to see if that gooey sauce was specific to the Mongolian and sadly the orange chicken had it also. Sad to say but this has definitely vibed us out and Although I enjoyed the chicken wings my wife doesn't eat meat. So, we're very sad about the recipe change for the sauces but we will definitely be back to see if anything has changed. Dinning in I would expect someone to come ask me how was my food but that never happened. My food came out too fast literally 5 minutes so I do not believe the lo mein was made to order . Out of everything we ate the wings & the beef were definitely my favorite. The service here is an A+ we gave the food a B . It's nice but not super flavorful like the Chinese food you'd be used to enjoying in Houston tbh . I've definitely had better the fresh oranges in the orange chicken is cool but it's not the sticky yummy orange chicken you're gonna get from "China Bear" where you question what the kitchen looks like but the food is so good you don't even care lol .....here you know the kitchen is clean haha. Rice box is a must for good Chinese food. I really enjoyed the beef chow fun and the sesame chicken. The fried rice is just okay so I wouldn't get it again. My fave has to be the chow fun, but be careful because it's spicy even when you say mild/medium. Ambiance: this place is aesthetically pleasing. It looks like a night market with a lot of bar seating. This location is great because there's way more parking than the shepherd location so that's a plus. Service was good, it just took a while to get our food. The only downside is that they're currently out of sriracha because of the shortage, but other than that everything was great. read more

Such a cool place! Came at night so I could see it all lit up and it did not disappoint ambiance wise! Such a cool concept! We ordered the General Tso's Chicken, salt and pepper chicken, curry fried rice and crab rangoons. Honestly loved it all and were very generous portion wise (the rangoons were huge too!). Our daughter-in-law told us about the box. We got carried away and ordered way too much food.....happy leftovers. We started with chicken and napa cabbage dumplings, very good. We enjoyed the wontons in our wonton soups, broth could have been better. My wife got the Mongolian beef, it was a little too chewy for her. I went with my usual when I try a new place, General Tso's chicken, very good. You can specify how spicy you want it, I went with medium....the young man behind the counter asked some questions about how spicy I liked it, he did a great job helping me decide on medium....just the right spice level for me. Both people working the counter did a stellar job. We ordered eggrolls and both entrees came wit'....the grandbaby reaped the benefits. The decor is awesome, kinda like anime or a video game. I have had a handful of chicken orders from here such as their sesame, sweet n sour, general tso's and kung pao when it was in truck form selling at the UH campus years ago and always found it to be an agreeable food spot. I ordered the Chicken Fun Chow tonight for takeout, which I never had before. It was very delicious and juicy in every bite. Fun Chow is my favorite of all the menu items I have ever had so far from TRB places. The flavors n aromas from the garlic, onion, etc. were all very good n spot on. I love those flat, square, brown noodles they use and are the same kind used in drunken noodles when eating Thai food. They have a great, oily, doughy taste n feel to them with a great taste by themselves. The chicken pieces were very plentiful, juicy, soft and tasty in the mix. The cooked green onions were a great ingredient too. The service was efficient and friendly on this first-time visit at this new Rice Village location. I plan to order the Curry Chicken and Curry Fried Rice on my next visits. This place is also very generous on portions for the price which is nice. read more

Great service and really cool ambiance! I love the lights and the overall aesthetic of the place...it's really unique and has a cyberpunk feel to it. For this reason I think it's a pretty cool date spot as it has a fun vibe. A little piece of the neon city, if you will. The food on the other hand...ehhh. The best compliment I can give is that they have decent portion sizes, but overall the food is quite mediocre. The main issue I have is that nearly all of the menu items are GREASY. Enough grease to pour out of the takeout container (no joke). It's hard to tell if the flavors are coming from the grease or the exorbitant amount of MSG that they probably add to their dishes. Oof! All in all, might be worth a try if you're into the ambiance and are accepting of the highly inflammatory American diet that is pervasive in our society LOL. The veggies and beef itself were sooo yummy!!! Beef was nice and tender. The veggies were so flavorful. We also ordered the hot n sour soup. Although it tasted good, it wasn't really anything special. I would probably not order it again. I would try something new instead. This was our first time here and we were unaware of just how much food they serve. The portions are HEAPING! We ate and ate and still had to take food home for leftovers. I waited 20 minutes for shrimp fried rice and an egg roll to arrive, while I sat and watched online orders and DoorDash get filled and out the door. The portions are MASSIVE, but you'll quickly realize that it's cause the meat isn't of the best quality. The portion sizes were great and the kung pao chicken and chow fun came with rice, you have a choice between steamed or fried rice. The containers are very takeout friendly as well. We ordered two drinks, a nitro Thai tea and a Lo Pan, both were very tasty and the nitro made it super smooth. Let me start with, I have been going to the rice box for many years and this is the first time that the food was just horrible, I ordered 3 different entries and everything was horrible including the egg rolls which are always a win. I had a bad feeling from some of the pictures that were posted here. The proteins and veggies looked dry, But I decided because of the history of good experiences I'd give them a shot and go despite the pictures. To top off my total experience, I asked if they could add the broccoli to the pan with the protein so it wouldn't just be steamed and bland, I was told no it's more like a garnish. Initially, the service was lackluster as the man at the register did not give me my drink I had ordered. However, Pluto was kind enough to check in with us while we were seated at the bar area and offered to get us our drinks while waiting for our food. I ordered sesame tofu with fried rice and a vegetable egg roll. Usually at restaurants like this I struggle to order as a vegetarian but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of vegetarian and vegan options.
