As soon as I was seated, I was greeted by a very moody waitress. She was sassy to me, but the moment she looked at my husband, her whole demeanor changed. As she was handing him a glass, HER HAND INTENTIONALLY GRAZED HIS. Don't get me started on the service!! Everything felt dirty and dusty, the food was nothing to write home about. I love a good rooftop bar. I love tiki drinks. Reef has both! There were two hostess at the stand when we walked in, one was great, one really seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else. We did get a seat on the rooftop and it was a great night for it. The drinks are delicious, the food is good and with the beautiful summer weather we were pretty set. Ashlynn was our waitress and she was great, didn't complain one bit when we changed our drink order on her at the past minute and was polite and sweet the whole time. Had a surprise party for my husband, and Drew and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. I flew in an entertainer and Reef provided a sound guy, had staff dedicated to serving our group, and they really went above and beyond. The entire experience was fantastic! read more

The Reef is a mixed bag on theming. It wants to be a Tiki Bar but it doesn't completely pull it off. Drinks came in plastic, heavily used Cruzan cups and were definitely tasty but more non traditional (aka sweet) Mai Tais. As an avid tiki mug collector, I was happy that they found what was apparently their last ceramic mug, made circa 2007. Thank you to the server and manager for digging this one up. I do understand that it becomes a bit of an EDM Club later in the evening which only hurts its Tiki Bar theming. All in all, I'd go back but I'd definitely choose Devil's Den over the Reef when it comes to Boise Tiki Bars read more

We waited forever for our food. I'd say 45 minutes plus . Ribeye was very thin and just not what you'd expect for a ribeye. Poke salad tasted like a salt lick. Assume it was bad soy sauce. I am giving Reef 5 stars and let me tell you why, this is my first time in Boise Idaho and my girlfriend and I were just starving when we got in. She had looked up the Reef before we arrived and we figured this looked like a good place to go. Our Uber driver actually told us to try the Jerk Chicken and that it was top notch. So when get here, we didn't know the place was on the second floor of a building, which isn't a problem but can be confusing getting in. We got there about mid afternoon so it was pretty empty, our server Erick was immediately a pleasure to talk to and was more than helpful. Not knowing the jerk chicken plate was a only served after 4pm, we asked Erick if there was a reason for it being served after 4 and he said it takes time to make the sides that go with it but he was going to talk to chef and see if it can get us a plate. Mind you, 2pm. The drinks were top notch and cheap, I got a beer for $5.75 and my girlfriend got a cocktail for $8. When Erick came back he said he was able to serve us the jerk chicken without potatoes but we can sub for anything else and we chose fries, he said the Chef owed him a favor so he gave it to us. We also ordered coconut crust shrimp and some Lobster tater tots plates. And both were just extremely delicious! I can rave how good both were. And the Jerk Chicken finally arrived and it was so good. It came with a jerk sauce and it was spicy and tangy. Erick also showed us the outdoor patio, which looked like a fun place to come back to. He explained to us about how things get over the summer and wished we'd comeback to enjoy. He was explaining how great Boise can be. So this is a place I would recommend and definitely come back to. read more

Fun themed rooftop bar in good weather (second story bar inside looked nice too). Safe walkable area; close to lots of fun bars that got going a bit later. Nice to see different age groups there. Didn't eat there but food looked good with big portions. Bartenders were nice and attentive. Mai tai was not good (my favorite is Duke's or Cheesecake Factory). I would go again to enjoy atmosphere, try the food, and try a different drink. read more

The alcohol was good, but the food was horrible. Came for my birthday and the food took forever, was cold when it arrived, and tasted as if it was sitting out for an hour no joke. The guacamole was brown when it came out and the nachos were cold and the melted cheese was tough. My waitress misinformed me about happy hour so I ended up paying way more than I should have for the quality I received. Very disappointing birthday will not be coming back here to eat. read more

I never thought I'd be writing a third review in a place I loved..yet here I am. And this relates to the lack of following social distancing protocols, not food. Went in on Friday for dinner with a group of 4. Sat at a booth, with every other booth filled. No big deal, that's what they're supposed to do. Until I notice it's getting busier and suddenly both booths by us are filled in. Luckily this was at the tail end of our meal. As someone who loves this restaurant, it disappoints me to see they advertise that they follow social distancing procedures, yet don't do as they claim. I've been to my fair share of restaurants during covid, and all of them that claim to be social distancing, are social distancing, so to see this happening isn't okay. Definitely won't be coming back, at least not during covid. read more

We dined here on the Roof for our Anniversary and Loved the atmosphere, it was a clear night, the Food was excellent and Steaks were Tasty, I had the Filet Mignon and she had the Rib Eye Steak, even the red mashed potatoes and vegetables tasted great. The drinks weren't as good as what we get at other restaurants we like, no Cointreau or Grand Marnier to liven up the margaritas so we tried their Special Drinks from the menu recommended by our waitress..Definitely plan on returning to dine, we dug the thatched umbrellas and being on the roof, the ambience was great and people were having a good time. Fun vibe, good food, great prices, and solid service. Every time I've come here, I can't get away from the Thai Chicken Tacos. There are plenty of other items on the menu that have caught my eye and look delicious, but I can't resist - those tacos call my name each time. Shredded tender chicken that is both savory and sweet, crisp veggies to give a little crunch, generous amounts of avocado, and a dash of spicy sauce piled onto three little tortillas - yes, please. On the side, I get voodoo fries! These bad boys are covered with brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and a variety of other spices, and are DELISH. The waiter warned me that they are on the spicy side, to which I replied, "I can take it!" They had a little kick but I didn't think they were too spicy by any means, while my friend across from me (who also ordered these fries) was sweating from her forehead while she ate them. So either hers had WAY more pepper on them, or I have a higher tolerance for spice? Either way, order voodoo fries at your own risk (although I recommend them!). This place is called "The Reef", so that sort of gives away what kind of vibe it has before you even step in. Everything is island/beach themed, so it gives (you sort-of) a feeling of being somewhere by the sea, even in a landlocked state. As far as service is concerned - I have never been the arranger when coming here, so I can't speak to the process of getting a reservation. We have always been well taken care of and accommodated (two of the times I've been here were with larger groups). I will note - I came "here" last weekend for a friends birthday, but they double booked the space for the party, so they sat us in a private room in their sister restaurant (The Brickyard) and allowed us to order off either menu. Kind of unconventional, but it totally worked and the service was still awesome! We had a great time. I appreciate that our reservation wasn't cancelled, or bumped. Thank you Reef for coming up with a solution and taking great care of our group! One last thing - I watched a show for Treefort here last year and that was a blast! Reef has been on my list for a while so we decided to check this place out for dinner. The restaurant is pretty cool. Upstairs with a rooftop tiki themed patio. Definitely want to come back and see this place later at night. Drinks: We ordered a couple of their Suicide Barbie Party Bowls and they were great! Very sweet but great. They even come out on fire which is pretty cool. Food: I had the coconut chicken wrap and good fries and my wife had the quesadilla. The coconut chicken wrap was delicious and very flavorful but it did get soggy because of all the sauce inside. The voodoo fries are amazing but if you don't like spicy don't get them. My wife said the quesadilla was greasy and it definitely looked like a greasy mess BUT it's a quesadilla full of meaty cheese so that expected. Service: service was very good. Everyone was friendly and helpful but it was SLOW. Took us about 2 hours to eat and have 2 drinks and a lot of that time was spent waiting. We didn't mind waiting on a rooftop overlooking the city and sunset so not a bad place to wait. We will be back! read more

Had a great experience at the Reef! Went there on my birthday and had amazing service. The host, Taylor, was very welcoming during a busy night. Our waiter was Michael and was really great even with a big group. We had around 10 people and he was great about giving suggestions about wine, shots and food. I have been wanting to go here forever! So glad we finally did! We sat up on the rooftop & it was really nice! Lots of umbrellas for shade. The waitress was very quick & efficient even as they got busier & busier. My friend & I ordered the "Volcano" bowl and it was amazing! Huge & perfect for two people to share. We ordered the quesadilla & the forbidden nachos & both were amazing. The quesadillas had an amazing lime crema. I will order them every time we go here. Valentine's night with my wife, 2015. Being late to the party in making reservations for dinner, a friend told us about the Reef and thankfully they had a spot open for us. I, myself, am not the biggest seafood fan, so I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but I was a brave boy and went willingly. Oddly, both of us had non seafood fare! We did start the night out with Crab Rangoon as an appetizer, and even I enjoyed these delicious morsels. I ordered the Bali Pad Thai in Chicken and my wife had the Filet Mignon. My dinner was delightfully sweet and spicy and very filling. The wife's Filet was simply superb. Cooked to perfection. A huge Kudos to the kitchen for preparing an amazing meal for a much needed special night out. There was also some musical entertainment going on that, quite honestly I didn't understand. I wasn't sure if the guy was actually playing/singing or just tuning up instruments, but the music seemed to be the same almost the whole time we were there. We didn't mind at all though since it seemed to fit the theme of the restaurant. I would like to come back here again sometime, as both my wife and I left extremely satisfied. read more

There is definitely nothing special about the food. It may look good but unfortunately it's not. We got the Mondo Pupu Platter, The Duke burger, Thai Chicken Tacos, steak tacos, and orange chicken. Easy 5 stars. -LOVE the roof-top bar/seating! -The Bam Bam Mojito/made with 44 North Vodka- not too sweet, not too sour, but just perfect! - I had the grilled fish tacos- refreshing and delicious. My bf had the Hula Hula chicken sandwich- tasty. We also tried the coconut shrimp which came with a great dipping sauce. -Service was on point, our server was very nice and prompt. Not sure how this place gets bad reviews but everyone and every business has it's off days.. I love the Reef, a lot, and don't get people that don't. With my sister in town, I had to take her to my favorite rooftop bar! (It was nearly 100° after all...) We arrived a little after 8pm, and were glad to find there was no cover fee yet. The roof was full, so we put ourselves on the list and grabbed a spot at the bar while we waited. Grabbed a few drinks from the sweet bartender, and then got called to our table before we even took a sip! The roof is always a little crazy, so don't be surprised to find the service a little slower than "normal" restaurants. Our waitress was super sweet and was working her butt off! We had a few rounds of drinks and split the large appetizer sampler. Then, of course, a suicide Barbie bowl! We had a great time. Food was great (the calamari steaks were bomb!) and the drinks were on point! Great place to enjoy a summer evening with friends, drinking or not. read more
