They are super friendly. First time coming here since we are from out of town. I am a super picky eater and this totally killed it. As a starter plate we ordered the "Mondo puppy platter" and it had different varieties of food. I loved it. Than I ordered the "big kahuna burger" and the juiciness and the flavor of the burger was a burst of goodness. absolutely loved my experience here. To drink I got the pineapple Mojito and as a person who doesn't like strong drinks it was great. We also got a "Suicide Barbie" and it was great if you're looking to get F**** up. Make sure you SHARE the drink, it's strong. For desert I got a mud pie and as soon as they brought it it smelled delicious. It was very sweet & tastes like coffee. read more

I'm giving this place 4 stars just because I really like it. It's a fun tiki style bar, with reasonably good food and drinks, and they have a great roof top patio. On this last occasion Lena and I were in Boise, we decided to go in for a couple of beers and we shared the ahi tuna, which was actually delicious. The service was not particularly great, but I easily over look that if I'm pleased with the overall experience! This is a great spot for lunch, and an even better place to enjoy the evening, especially when the weather is nice enough to sit outside! Cheers! read more

The reef has been an awesome place for happy hour. The bartenders and waitstaff are super nice. But the chef wont allow half nachos. Very disrespectful to all of us customers. Normal nachos are way too big, and super wasteful. I don't reccomend going to a place that: 1. Won't listen to the customers when they make reasonable requests. And 2. Don't care enough about the environment or being wasteful in todays society. We need to get the Reef to step their game up to become #1 place in Boise. Right now I would say go to almost anywhere else in Boise that respects its customers. read more

The Reef has a lot of excellent things to offer. Great location on the corner of 6th and Main. Fun rooftop seating and bar. Live music. Large party room. Booze served in embarrassing large coconut cups. Good food. I have been to the Reef maaaaannny times. But I have only ever ordered the Coconut Chicken and Fish Tacos. I'm so embarrassed. I make a pact with myself every time to try something new and then can't seem to control myself. I'm a woman obsessed. I LOVE the dipping sauce for the chicken. I've been known to lick it clean. I also love their fries. I love the extra crunch on the outside. I have had many of the drinks though. They're fun and exotic, but definitely pricier. It might be a fun place to start the night, but not finish. I have seen live music here many times too. When you're trying to eat dinner and enjoy conversation, it can be a bit loud (unless you're trying to avoid awkward questions from your in laws...) But if you go for drinks and dance, the set up is awesome! My only real issue with the Reef is the occasional bad service I have received. My experiences have run the gamut from bar tenders that ignore you, to disappearing servers, to hostesses who lose reservations. If service picks up, the Reef could become my tropical island getaway. read more

Incredibly rude hosts. (One blonde and a brunette). Absolutely off putting first impression when coming into a restaurant. They were unhelpful and condescending as we were trying to figure out the best way to wait for our table. We were unable to get drinks upstairs while we waited for our table. They do not take your phone numbers to alert you when your table is ready and fully expect you to keep track of your time limit. I came in again on 7/24/2021 with a friend to enjoy some food and drinks. Sat outside in the patio. We had waited a while just to get a waitress to come greet us but since before covid I had never really received the best service here. Manager or owner had reached out last time apologizing and offering a gift card then never heard from them again. Besides that I had remembered the food and drinks were delicious here. I ordered a couple drinks and a few appetizers. It took about 30 minutes to receive our appetizers and as I began eating a hair was in my food. I got up carried the plate over to this waitress she was not wearing a normal worker shirt so I assumed maybe she was the manager. I go up to her let her know that the plate had a hair in it and she made a snobby face and said I'll take it right back. I watched her go down the stairs of the patio and didn't even wait a minute to turn around she came back saying she had replaced my plate with a new one. I looked at the plate it looked identical just with a whole where the hair was and the same dipping sauces were on the same plate too. I was very frustrated at that point so I asked for the manager our waitress said she was the manager. I asked the server cleaning the table next to us for a manager and a guy comes up to our table. So apparently everyone is a manager here is what it seemed like. Im so sad this was definitely a second bad experience and terrible terrible customer service. read more

BAMBOOZELED! I wish I could give zero stars. The hallway to the restroom passes the kitchen, and if you look close enough, it's filthy. As soon as I was seated, I was greeted by a very moody waitress. She was sassy to me, but the moment she looked at my husband, her whole demeanor changed. The Reef is a mixed bag on theming. It wants to be a Tiki Bar but it doesn't completely pull it off. Drinks came in plastic, heavily used Cruzan cups and were definitely tasty but more non traditional (aka sweet) Mai Tais. As an avid tiki mug collector, I was happy that they found what was apparently their last ceramic mug, made circa 2007. Thank you to the server and manager for digging this one up. I do understand that it becomes a bit of an EDM Club later in the evening which only hurts its Tiki Bar theming. All in all, I'd go back but I'd definitely choose Devil's Den over the Reef when it comes to Boise Tiki Bars read more

I love a good rooftop bar. I love tiki drinks. Reef has both! There were two hostess at the stand when we walked in, one was great, one really seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else. We did get a seat on the rooftop and it was a great night for it. The drinks are delicious, the food is good and with the beautiful summer weather we were pretty set. Ashlynn was our waitress and she was great, didn't complain one bit when we changed our drink order on her at the past minute and was polite and sweet the whole time. This is a great place to get a great tropical drink and enjoy some quality people watching! read more

Had a surprise party for my husband, and Drew and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. I flew in an entertainer and Reef provided a sound guy, had staff dedicated to serving our group, and they really went above and beyond. The entire experience was fantastic! read more

We waited forever for our food. I'd say 45 minutes plus . Ribeye was very thin and just not what you'd expect for a ribeye. Poke salad tasted like a salt lick. Assume it was bad soy sauce. I am giving Reef 5 stars and let me tell you why, this is my first time in Boise Idaho and my girlfriend and I were just starving when we got in. She had looked up the Reef before we arrived and we figured this looked like a good place to go. Our Uber driver actually told us to try the Jerk Chicken and that it was top notch. So when get here, we didn't know the place was on the second floor of a building, which isn't a problem but can be confusing getting in. We got there about mid afternoon so it was pretty empty, our server Erick was immediately a pleasure to talk to and was more than helpful. Not knowing the jerk chicken plate was a only served after 4pm, we asked Erick if there was a reason for it being served after 4 and he said it takes time to make the sides that go with it but he was going to talk to chef and see if it can get us a plate. Mind you, 2pm. The drinks were top notch and cheap, I got a beer for $5.75 and my girlfriend got a cocktail for $8. When Erick came back he said he was able to serve us the jerk chicken without potatoes but we can sub for anything else and we chose fries, he said the Chef owed him a favor so he gave it to us. We also ordered coconut crust shrimp and some Lobster tater tots plates. And both were just extremely delicious! I can rave how good both were. And the Jerk Chicken finally arrived and it was so good. It came with a jerk sauce and it was spicy and tangy. Erick also showed us the outdoor patio, which looked like a fun place to come back to. He explained to us about how things get over the summer and wished we'd comeback to enjoy. He was explaining how great Boise can be. We stopped for lunch and had the tiki quesadilla with the pork - AMAZING!!! Melody was our server and very friendly and gave us good beer recommendations. I had a glass of New Age wine and it was completely iced up since we were sitting outside and so refreshing. They also have Kona Big Wave my husbands favorite beer. The alcohol was good, but the food was horrible. Came for my birthday and the food took forever, was cold when it arrived, and tasted as if it was sitting out for an hour no joke. I have been wanting to go here forever! So glad we finally did! We sat up on the rooftop & it was really nice! Lots of umbrellas for shade. The waitress was very quick & efficient even as they got busier & busier. My friend & I ordered the "Volcano" bowl and it was amazing! Huge & perfect for two people to share. We ordered the quesadilla & the forbidden nachos & both were amazing. The quesadillas had an amazing lime crema. I will order them every time we go here. Valentine's night with my wife, 2015. Being late to the party in making reservations for dinner, a friend told us about the Reef and thankfully they had a spot open for us. I, myself, am not the biggest seafood fan, so I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, but I was a brave boy and went willingly. Oddly, both of us had non seafood fare! We did start the night out with Crab Rangoon as an appetizer, and even I enjoyed these delicious morsels. I ordered the Bali Pad Thai in Chicken and my wife had the Filet Mignon. My dinner was delightfully sweet and spicy and very filling. The wife's Filet was simply superb. Cooked to perfection. A huge Kudos to the kitchen for preparing an amazing meal for a much needed special night out. There was also some musical entertainment going on that, quite honestly I didn't understand. I wasn't sure if the guy was actually playing/singing or just tuning up instruments, but the music seemed to be the same almost the whole time we were there. We didn't mind at all though since it seemed to fit the theme of the restaurant. I would like to come back here again sometime, as both my wife and I left extremely satisfied. read more

The Reef is a unique hang out spot in downtown Boise! I really enjoy the Nachos and the poke salad! I'll come down with friends on a Friday night, grab some nachos and rum drinks, then listen to the weekend music! Reef has done a great job of booking creative and unique musicians. We dined here on the Roof for our Anniversary and Loved the atmosphere, it was a clear night, the Food was excellent and Steaks were Tasty, I had the Filet Mignon and she had the Rib Eye Steak, even the red mashed potatoes and vegetables tasted great. The drinks weren't as good as what we get at other restaurants we like, no Cointreau or Grand Marnier to liven up the margaritas so we tried their Special Drinks from the menu recommended by our waitress..Definitely plan on returning to dine, we dug the thatched umbrellas and being on the roof, the ambience was great and people were having a good time.
