It's been over two years since I've been here so I figured it was time for an update. I stopped in for dinner as I was craving some good ole' comfort food. I chose my own seat and had my order taken quickly. I decided to get the city chicken with chicken noodle soup to start. The food was plentiful and delicious! City chicken is such a niche food item and I'm so glad I can get it here! It sure hit the spot. Prices are still great, serving sizes are large, service is great, and now they take credit cards! They are no longer cash only! They accept cards for payment now too. Chicken paprikash is only available on Wednesdays and comes with a side of applesauce, salad, roll or a couple other choices. Very reasonable prices here. Veggies added on the side for about $3. Nice and warm hole in the wall spot. The food was plentiful for the price and came with two rolls as well as the salad I chose for my side. The chicken was 3 thighs which were juicy although the sauce wasn't particularly flavorful. There were plenty of spaetzle as well. A great affordable decently healthy meal overall. read more

So to look at it - well it looks like everything is going to be covered in grease, but it's clean as a whistle - just old. The wait staff is a bunch of characters and the food is pretty great. The food is just okay. Sausage was dry and my coffee had a shredded carrot floating in it. My last visit there I said I would not return. if you're hungry and you have to go you'll be fine but don't take anyone there for the food. read more

I had the Slavic Platter and my husband had the hot turkey sandwich. So much food! We each took 1/2 of our plates home. Cabbage rolls and Kielbasa were excellent. I saved the pierogi and city chicken to take home. We were welcomed when we came in and had a really good server, who took good care of us. This little home style diner was a good choice. We were in the Cleveland area and had a hankering for Polish food. The Red Chimney fit that bill, since they had City chicken on the menu. It's in Slavic Town, and is located on a corner with lot parking. It's basically a family restaurant with a Polish section on the menu. Walking in is like stepping back into the '70s. Everything is a little rough around the edges inside and out, but service was friendly and attentive. We had decided in advance on City chicken, and the soup of the day was New England clam chowder (they decided not to make Manhattan, which was fine with me). The chowder was a huge portion, and full of potatoes and clams, very yummy. The City chicken was deep fried, and quite different than I'm used to, including the gravy, which I think was beef. It was not that tender and could have been hotter. The portion was very generous, but not that tasty. The mashed potatoes were standard food service ones, serviceable at best. Overall, a bit of a meh. read more

Great old time all day dining in Slavic! Diner like menu loaded with all day breakfast + sandwiches soups & salads & meaty entrees. Old school dining. Yum! Love the stools at the bar for that diner feel. I ordered iced-tea, kielbasa & kraut dinner w/ veg and a side salad. As someone practicing Keto, there were some decent options! Really enjoyed the canned vegetable medley. Took me back to my youth. Kielbasa was seared on the grill and kraut had a nice rye flavor. This spot does the business at lunch! First impressions mean a lot, and had it been up to me, I would have turned around when I saw the menus.... DISGUSTING. Covered in grime and falling apart. One photo shows where I scratched some of the grime off of my menu. And f the menus are this bad, what is the kitchen like??? What looked like a piece of carrot in the applesauce. Came here every day for a week while visiting my boyfriend in North Ridgeville, and it's probably the best place to go to for breakfast in the whole city. The staff is incredibly welcoming, the service is fast, and the food/drinks are amazing, especially for their price. Coffee with Texas Toast and extra crispy bacon is probably my favorite. 10/10 read more

Don't let the looks of this place scare you. The portions were huge! Fried chicken was delicious. Slavic sampler with soup was enough for 3 people. Very friendly people working. Clean restrooms. It's not fancy (hasn't been updated in probably 50 years) but if you are hungry... this is the place to try. read more

Stopped for brunch as we were leaving Cleveland, so happy we did! We were seated promptly, and waitress was patient while we all decided on our orders. Husband ordered cinnamon raisin bread French toast with bacon. Oldest daughter ordered chicken Caesar salad, youngest ordered chocolate chip pancakes. My meal was the All-American breakfast (enough to share with others!). Everyone enjoyed the meal. We would definitely return if in the area~ one of the best breakfasts I've had while traveling. *I did not check signage to see if the cash only policy has changed. Excellent restaurant in Slavic village for all things comfort food. We will definitely be back when in need of a good hearty meal. They serve breakfast all day. My youngest stepson got the breakfast burrito and that thing was HUGE! I think it would make a chipotle burrito blush. I had the beef tips and noodles. Do not let the way they look fool you! They were excellent. We are excited to return and try more from the menu. PS: this place is cash only. They have an atm for you to withdraw money from if you don't have cash. read more

Great breakfast spot if you're in the area. Good quality food, with large portions that taste good! I've had it a couple times as it's on my commute with work. Ordered the western omelette and it was tasty as usual. Felt like the eggs was a tad over cooked this time but was still good. Home fries are great, just needs a touch of salt and pepper. read more

Visiting Ohio for the first time. Best food I've had on my trip! Our server Angeline was super sweet and hospitable. Better stuffed cabbage rolls than anything I've had in either Massachusetts, California, or Philadelphia. The Red Chimney might be the best breakfast place i've had in my entire life and it's consistently good every time we go. It's a hidden gem in Cleveland, the cutest little old-fashioned diner. The second we walked in, we were greeted by the staff and sat down right away. The service was the fastest I have ever experienced and everybody working there was so so nice! The food came out immediately after we ordered it we were kinda shocked how fast they were. We both ordered the all American special and I'm not even exaggerating when I say this is the best breakfast food I've ever tasted. The perfect breakfast honestly, everything was cooked perfectly and the serving sizes were pretty large especially for the price. I don't even normally like hot coffee but I drank the entire pot it was that good. I almost don't even want to write this review so nobody else knows how good this place is and it doesn't get crowded, but credit is due where it's deserved. What a fantastic treasure of a restaurant here in Cleveland's Slavic Village! So many menu options, and all VERY reasonably priced. The food is superb, authentic and served hot and fast. Generous portions, too! This place is an institution that's been around a long time, for good reason. Love that it's a family-owned and operated local business, too. I received detailed help & attention with my large order from everyone, including three members of the family, the server, and the chef. They went above and beyond without needing to be asked in making sure that everything was just right and even helped me get everything packed and loaded. They clearly take pride in their business. Nostalgic and has a special place in my heart. I came here for the first time after church about 4 years ago and sorta fell in love with the place. The red chimney has such a a great menu- it is so reasonably priced and you will leave the place so full. They have a rotating "specials" menu which makes each trip unique. Stuffed cabbage, chicken paprikash, stuffed pepper, it's got something great! I came here recently and evidently from reading other reviews the restaurant has new owners? My most recent trip, (7/2021) I thought the stuffed cabbage was not quite as good as it was the first time I came here. I was so impressed with the navy bean soup and the coconut cream pie, I still had no complaints about my trip! Staff is kind, I'm not sure why this was a complaint from other yelpers. Went here a number of years ago. Always busy and food was very good. Today however was a mistake. New owners apparently, food and service were poor. I ordered a breakfast special with corned beef. Not sure what I received but it was either the worst corned beef I have had or something else entirely. My wife ordered a slavic village special. Stuffed Cabbage. Kielbasi, City Chicken. Two out of three where something we are unfamiliar with. Even the coffee tasted like its been brewing since yesterday. Service was poor, but that may have been because the two servers were overwhelmed by the crowd. After all there were two tables in use. read more

The food here might be wonderful, and in fact the navy bean soup was as good as any I've ever had. But, when I walked in the door, there was no sign posted saying cash only. Fortunately, I was still using the Yelp app and looking at reviews while I decided what to order, and someone else kindly warned us that it is a cash only business. Checking my pockets I realized I only had enough cash for a bowl of soup, so I tip the waitress 30% with four of the five dollars I had in my hand, and left without ordering anything else. This may be a wonderful place for homestyle and eastern European food, but I find it more than a little offputting when a business would rather make three dollars off of an ATM fee to get your cash then provide a means to use 20th century means of payment. Come on, red chimney, don't treat your patrons this way. Your cash only policy cost you goodwill on the part of this consumer, and also cost you whatever profit you might've made from the entrée I failed to order before exiting the door. read more

Not bad for $3.00, but the grits are lumpy and the last time I was there they were cold. The pancake was like rubber. When I tried to send them back, the owner got smart and told my husband who by the way went to culinary school, he is always complaining. This guy just lost customers. He said he has been in business for over 40 years. Who gets smart with the customers. This man needs training. The food is just ok not great. read more
