Metropolitan Coffee is such a cute hidden gem tucked away in Old Brooklyn. You can really tell they care about quality--everything is made from scratch, even the flavor syrups, and they use Rising Star beans. The menu has some standout breakfast options you don't see often around here, like loaded grits (a rare Southern find in this area). The grits were absolutely amazing--definitely my new go-to breakfast craving. The blueberry cream cheese muffin totally lived up to the hype too: moist, sweet, and perfectly balanced. We also tried the seasonal strawberry mocha. The coffee itself was smooth and well-made, though the strawberry flavor was a bit subtle. The vibe is one of the best parts--lots of seating, a mix of people working and chatting, and the kind of cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Another coffee nook win. When the barista said the cookie was going to be decadent, he absolutely meant it. Rich, indulgent, and worth every bite. They also had a small selection of food items, and everything looked scrumptious. I ordered a spicy latte paired with a chocolate brownie (perfect choice), and the combination was comforting with just the right kick. The atmosphere is what truly sets this café apart. Super awesome coffee shop in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood. I loved that they have a drive up order window, especially on a cold day. That's a great perk for those who would rather support a local coffee shop rather than a chain but prefer not to get out of the car. I decided to go inside to grab breakfast and some coffee. The interior is cozy with lots of tables for a full days work or a quick coffee meeting. There's a small food menu with some hot options and pastries, as well as a few panini's and a salad for lunch. I got the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was absolutely delicious and hot. It had lots of flavor. Although the biscuit was tasty and fresh, it was served cold and the hot gravy couldn't completely take off the chill. This was an above average gravy though and I would def return for it. They serve Rising Star coffee and I got a lumberjack breve. My drink came out piping hot, which I appreciated and the flavor was on point. I believe the lumberjack was a combination of brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple. It was perfect for a cold winter day. I couldn't resist getting a little sweet treat, so I grabbed a brown butter chocolate chunk cookie at the suggestion of a barista. Another delicious choice. Honestly everything was great here. I would definitely frequent this place if I lived closer. The service was friendly and they worked pretty quickly, which I appreciated. Super cute place with a good vibe, ample indoor and outdoor seating, parking, and friendly baristas! I stopped in at 4pm on a Sunday (they are open until 5, which is great for Sunday) and was greeted by a friendly barista who helped me navigate the menu. They have hot food options, pastries, and a ton of drink options with many unique syrup offerings...it was hard to decide! I ended up going for a cappuccino with their seasonal pot o' gold syrup (maple, tumeric, cinnamon, and black pepper) and it was flavorful and spicy in the best way. They also have unique alternative milk options in addition to the traditional oat with ripple (a pea protein "milk") and rice milk as choices. I tried the ripple in my cappuccino and it was superrrr thick...a bit too thick for me so I would go for another alternative in the future. Fun to try something different though! The muffin was a little sweeter than I liked but when you got a bite with a tart blueberry it was perfect. This is a really nice coffee shop, there is a lot of space for people to work, talk, mingle. I enjoyed my coffee, I got a hot caramel latte. I find at some coffee shops I prefer hot lattes over iced, I just like the taste of the coffee better. I did also have a muffin, it was great and had the crumble topping and cream cheese inside, I believe! I did notice on my way out, that there was a drive-through which was interesting. It was pretty busy right around noon/lunchtime. Unfortunately the parking lot is a little bit small so just be prepared if you're trying to come when it's busy. I'm happy this is close to me, I'll have to come and try a few new different drinks! I did notice from other people who ordered iced coffee drinks, and iced chais, that they seemed pretty light so there was a fair bit of milk or cream, just a heads up. read more

Quaint, comfortable coffee shop. The regular coffee and pastries were very good. I had the oatmeal cherry bar, my husband the lemon scone. Both were very fresh and tasty. We sat on the patio, which is big with lots of tables. One suggestion is to paint lines and arrows in the parking lot. We witnessed confusion several times and we were only there for an hour. A drive thru window requires one way traffic but patrons don't know this so we saw lots of cars meeting head on and reversing. No lines in the lot caused one person to park and literally block the drive thru. Hoping they remedy the parking lot chaos soon. read more

Waited 5 minutes to order even though nobody was in line because the two young ladies working were chatting. Tipped anyway. Waited almost 15 minutes for the young man to make me a hot latte. Two other people who came in after me got their specialty drinks before me. When I finally got it, it tasted like flavored water. Said thank you and the guy ignored me. So disappointed all around. Also the parking lot is a nightmare. And a note for the owners... the Cleveland Indians are now called the Guardians because "Chief Wahoo" was extremely racist. This place was adorable! I arrived here fairly early in the day with one other person there, but ended up leaving way later in the day when it was packed! When I got there I ordered a breakfast quiche, that was so yummy I wish it came as a bigger slice and a lavender latte! I ate the quiche right away and it was the perfect temperature! I drank my latte while I worked for a bit and it stayed warm (& i'm a sipper, so that's a big win for me) The place has so many comfy seats to pick from, outlets on the walls to use, and place the perfect music to get your work done! I was there for a big chunk of the day and people came to talk, catch up, study, work, etc and it was the perfect atmosphere for all of it! I cant wait to come back and get more work done! read more

I love to try new coffee spots. I've had Metro on my list for a while and I actually teach yoga in Parma very close to this spot. So I stopped in. They make many house made flavor syrups, they sell rising stars coffee which I love and I noticed the cafe was extremely spotless. Many people were in there on a Sunday afternoon chatting and doing work. I got an iced coffee with rice milk (nobody has rice milk!!) and some house made cinnamon dolce syrup. The Barista knew what was in each house made syrup and told me they usually do about 16 grams of sweetener, so I asked for about 8. My coffee was delicious and was ready so quick. I got my boyfriend a decaf americano and when I brought it home for him he said it was delicious. (He does not always say this) read more

This is super local to us within walking distance.... But unfortunately we go anywhere but here or we just order drip coffee lately. A few years ago the lattes and coffee were super good and balanced with homemade syrups and super cute ambiance and decor.... But lately all the baristas are young and brand new and the coffee tastes like hot milk with no espresso in it. Super weak. Not good. Also they don't have thermometers in their steam cups so hot drinks are not hot enough and are sometimes lukewarm.... Possible food safety issue. Everyone is super friendly though and we also miss the yoga weeknight classes there!! Could also use some gluten free options. Every major city seems to have that indie coffeehouse ... or two ... that seem(s) to have it all. For the Cleveland-N.E.O. area, I'd say it's this one - Metropolitan Coffee. You get the idea when you look at the histogram of ratings given by a lot of Yelp members. It hovers close to 5 stars. I'm going with 4 stars - a very strong 4 stars, almost on the cusp of 5 - and will give a few reasons further down. The product at Metropolitan Coffee is solid, be it a hot drink or something to eat. I go for simpler and cheaper coffee and tea rather than the artsy-fartsy complicated hot drinks, and what I've gotten has been to my liking. For teas, they have a good selection from which to choose. I actually like to pair up a dessert with my hot drink and they also do this well. I've only been here three times. On one occasion, I had an incredible chocolate cupcake. On this last occasion, I was looking for something chocolate, but settled on a strawberry lemon cupcake, which was also good. For me, the most appealing aspect of this coffeehouse is the physical plant. The exterior and the logo take their cues from the art deco fixtures in the city and, mostly, it's the "guardians" on the big bridge connecting downtown to the Ohio City area. The interior is even more appealing, with really interesting decor and a variety of seating in a funky color, not to mention excellent illumination from the windows all around. Let me say this - if all this velour were red, the place would look like a Victorian bordello from a Western movie. Thus, it's better that it's that funky blue color. Check out folks' photos to see what I'm talking about. There is a drive-through. I'm not a drive-through person. I like to sit inside so the environment found in a business's interior is what might pull me back. They have off-street parking. There isn't a lot of it, but there is street parking on that same street. Apparently, this neighborhood of older two-story single family homes has gentrified and what you'll see on the streets, and maybe even inside, are couples where one might be a public health policy worker and the other a librarian and they're homeschooling a kid or two that they cart around in a Subaru. I'm sorry, but I have to get these analyses and jokes into the mix. (I had one girl on here chastise me for talking about the unexpected presence of hipsters at a spot in the California desert ... she went "neener-neener" on me.) As for the service, it's effective and quick. I wouldn't call it friendly. I'd say that the service I've received at virtually every Starbucks has been friendlier than at Metropolitan Coffee. But, then, I'm not as cool as the sorts of folks who work in indie coffeehouses. However, unless it's a really unique Starbucks, it can't touch this indie coffeehouse in terms of atmosphere. Also, I don't want my dessert put into some granolafied recyclable cardboard container when I'm eating in. I like to relax with whatever I'm eating and my hot drink, and cardboard takes away from that. Again, for this particular metro area, Metropolitan (coincidentally similar in name) is probably at the top of the heap. If in Pittsburgh, I reflexively lean on Big Dog. If in warmer latitudes, there seem to be fewer "gold standard" indie coffeehouses, so a person has to roll up their sleeves and do some sleuthing. It's probably that northern latitudes and coffee/tea are more simpatico whereby, on a blustery or overcast day, depressed people will have a place to revel in those feelings, possibly while reading a book or on a laptop, and those who aren't when going in can actually move toward such moods when visiting an indie coffeehouse such that they will be channeling and empathizing. This place - Metropolitan Coffee - is so darn close to 5 stars. Go in and see for yourself. read more

This is a Cleveland gem in the Brooklyn neighborhood. I give extra kudos to coffee shops that do house made syrups. It offers a unique experience compared to other coffee shops that buy the syrups. I got a salted caramel iced latte with oat milk that wasn't overly sweet and I throughly enjoyed. The staff are super friendly and the inside/outside area are both fun vibes. They also have a little drive-thru area in case you don't have time to enjoy the ambience. Worth stopping by if you are in the neighborhood. read more

Trying coffee shops is one our favorite things to do especially when visiting new places. I saw the previous reviews and ratings and knew I needed to try this place for myself. We were both blown away by the amazing quality of the coffee, super smooth and a good kick of caffeine. My husband also said the scone was really good. To note it is a nut free place which is just super unique and cool to find. Ample indoor and outdoor comfortable seating. Also local artists sell cool pieces inside that was fun to browse. This is my favorite coffee shop in the Cleveland area to read a book, get work done, or meet up with a friend. They serve Rising Star coffee, which is the best roaster in town if you ask me, And have tons of other options like Matcha, lattes, chai, etc. They also have a case of baked goods and I'm not 100% sure, but I think they might make sandwiches too. The reason that Metropolotin Coffee is such a gem is the decor. It is seriously beautiful. They have velvet chairs, couches, community tables, and small work stations. This place is a mix of trendy chic with a cozy Cleveland vibe. I was instantly drawn to the the pop of color from the bright teal plush chairs just as I walked into the shop. The open concept seating allows larger groups to sit together and solo customers to distance themselves at a high top table or against wall seating. The big silver Cleveland sign behind the baristas is a beautiful touch. On a Friday afternoon, I wanted a hot latte to enjoy. They have so many flavors! From the traditional mocha, matcha, chai lattes to a menu of seasonal flavors. I chose from the seasonal menu and got the rosemary vanilla latte with skim milk. (They do offer vegan milk options if you ask) The drink was excellent! Vanilla with subtle hints of rosemary taste. Really good! To pair with a hot drink, I wanted a sweet treat. Options were limited to a few chocolate zucchini muffins, heavily sugared cookies and scones, or just one cupcake flavor. Surprised they didn't have more baked items. Not my first choice on cupcake flavors (but its all they had), I got the last banana cupcake. It was moist with real banana mush inside. Sadly the scone had bacon on it (not an option for vegetarians). Perhaps next time, I'll order actual food like the tomato soup and a cheese sandwich. The staff was friendly and quick with service. They offer free wifi and have restrooms. In the summer, there is outdoor seating available at benches. There is also a drive through window for pick up. Free parking, but the lot is very small and can fill up fast. The shop also sells Cleveland centric items. Overall, great latte! I was wowed today. I expected a little coffee shop but got a full experience complete with a sugar free matcha that was creamy and delicious and absolutely delicious biscuits and gravy. Have to update my review. The first visit was not good, especially since the customer service or lack there of made me never want to go back, but my daughter said let's give it another try, so we recently visited again. I'm glad I did; the new staff members were very nice, greeting us with a smile and asking what they could get us. When my daughter had a couple of a questions, they were more than happy to answer them. It was very busy and hectic inside the day we went, but the staff hustled with calm precision, smiling as they went about their work. The coffee was hot and the food was good as well.
