Joe's Deli has deli food but you don't have to take a number to get served. It has pretty much a full menu with burgers and steaks, etc. Don't forget to scan the desert counter upon entering. Breakdown: Hot pastrami on fresh ciabatta bread - best ever I had anywhere period. Tender and smoked, OMG, was it good with the brown mustard, and it was huge. Party of 16 was accommodated with early arrival (no reservations). All had to be there to get table at 5:30. Very nice hostess & clean huge lobby. The dessert case was large & filled with beautiful cakes & pastries. We were sat about 10 mins late though I was there 30 mins early), but we got 2 servers. The 2 ladies were cordial but a bit short w/ us and persnickety about our requests. My sister asked for light cheese specifically & server said that veggie sub never has a lot on it so she didn't need to note it. Then it came out w/ so much cheese it was impossible to separate it so she asked for it to be remade & server said that was the last one they had. So she had to order a side salad since time was short as hers came out last, & it would take 10+ mins to make another dish. There were a couple other issues w/ server's remarks seeming to have attitude. Food overall tasted good. Sandwiches are gigantic!!!! I love me the portion size and you can really share one sandwich order if you're just moderately hungry. The onion rings were fat and crispy, would get again. Came to this place pretty late on a Friday night to try out the corned beef from all of the massive photos we saw online. Definitely a place that seems to have a lot of heritage and regulars -- the seating area was huge and there were still people waiting to be seated at 8pm. They actually ran out of corned beef by the time we were seated, so I got the reuben instead. The sandwich did not disappoint, it was still just as big as the corned beef, and can definitely be 2 meals for some people. Meals at legacy eateries in NEO - 1 of 2 I had heard of Joe's from several people and their mention of it was so informal that I thought it might be a dive. Then, upon having a friend talk about it and that it was in Rocky River, I learned otherwise. It is no dive. It's actually a very nice establishment in the vein of the Cheesecake Factory. At any rate, I was visiting this same friend, both of us were considering a substantial lunch, and the light bulb went on simultaneously - Joe's of Rocky River! I had never eaten at Joe's and my friend doesn't eat here that often, being a place at which they had family meetings to discuss matters, celebrated events, and the like. Upon walking in to Joe's, I was instantly reminded of a Greek-American diner on Long Island at which I ate and which got 5 stars from me. Here, at this Lebanese-American diner, it's much the same: a nice building, attention to detail, comfortable booths and tables, tall ceilings, and a large and varied menu. I bring this up because this modus operandi is mostly a Northeastern thing that may only dribble partway into the Midwest. While their vast menu holds all the American comfort food items you'd want, and even some Italian dishes, there is a section with a decent number of Lebanese inspired platters. Upon getting the menus, I was hungry for a platter of American food. There are enough platters to choose from with meat, fish, and poultry, but, being a deli, the selection of large sandwiches and burgers seems to dominate. I was not planning on having pork chops, but that's what we ordered, albeit with different sides. The food was excellent. I really liked the server. She was spirited and even a little sassy, but it was almost like interacting with someone you've known for a while and are having a conversation with. With many tables under her purview, she maintained a good pace and worked quickly. I felt the wait for the food was reasonable. Also, after eating at the metallic Long Island Greek-American diner, the prices at Joe's - which has a brick exterior and not a metallic one - were a little more reasonable than on Long Island, but not like a those of a chain or a coffee shop. That's because everything about this restaurant is ratcheted up a notch. I was impressed with and very happy that I've been to this Rocky River household name and time-tested institution. Note that they also have a bar, a dessert case, and it's not only for lunch, but very popular for breakfast and stays open into the evening. Upon getting up and walking out, I saw some food at an adjacent table that looked very interesting, so I asked the diners what they had ordered - which at least a few of my friends find obnoxious - and that entire table had ordered things from among the Lebanese inspired menu items. Joe's restaurant has a lot of great food options to offer. My wife and I went to Joes on Valentine's Day. They don't take reservations and it was a busy night special occasion, so we had a little bit of a wait. Very nice dining environment. You first notice the bakery area when walking in and a bar on the right. The seating area is nice and presented well. Service was on point, kind, and polite. Very prompt on checking in and quick with bringing out our dishes. They have a large menu with a lot of options. A mix of traditional and classic dinner foods and Mediterranean foods. We saw plenty we'd like to try, so ordering was a challenge. We ordered Kibbeh as an appetizer and it was fantastic! This is a hit or miss dish for many places and this was a hit. For dinner, my wife ordered filet + lobster and I ordered Hawaiian chicken. Both dishes were very well done with a lot of flavors. Gives that classic home cooked with the best touch to each dish. We finished up with chocolate cake that was thick and dense and very flavorful rich chocolate. Makes me want to try a lot of other baked options. I ordered takeout chicken parm 2 weeks ago and when I got home, there was no pasta -- it says in the description it was served on a bed of pasta (as chicken parm always is). I can forgive a mistake, but what really made me angry was emailing them twice about it and being completely ignored. I was just wasting my time because no one was listening. I took my Mom there for dinner today and told one of the workers about it. He said when you order online, if you choose a potato as a side, that's considered a starch replacement for the pasta, so you don't get any. Umm, what?? That's totally misleading and I know for a fact I am not the only person this happened to. Another person in the lobby overheard me and said the same thing happened to them a few months back -- which means management KNOWS the website is confusing and misleading people, but they do nothing about it. To be honest, I really like this place. Their servings are enormous, and I care a lot about the suffering of the billions of animals in our food chain, so Joe's is my go-to restaurant for fried chicken because they use Humane Certified Gerbers chicken. So kudos to the restaurant for those things. But when you are aware that you're misleading customers because of bad text on your website and you don't fix it, that's shameful. And when a customer takes the time to email -- two separate times -- and management completely ignores them, that's a serious fail. read more

Dropped in 1 June cause I had skipped my May visit. Arrived about 1110 was seated right away. Had a great conversation with the hostess same as always. Got a new server. I didn't recognize her, but I asked and figured out that she was a breakfast server, and her shift was almost ending. Been coming here for near or over 20 years because I started at the old location and I have yet to have a bad meal or a bad server, they know how to hire people and they most certainly know how to cook. Every time I'm there restaurant is filled with diners for breakfast lunch or dinner. as I looked at the entrance counter, it's always loaded and I mean 20 30 bags of takeout food --they are doing a booming business because they can and because they do it right. I had my usual daily quiche and today it was corn beef. It was piping, hot and delicious. It came with a cup of soup and I chose chicken rice which again was piping hot with a side of fresh fruit, always a nice mixture of five or six different fruits and their I call famous dipping sauce. When I wanna treat myself, I make the long trip to Rocky River and I go here and it starts my happy day and keeps my happy day going. The atmosphere is bright airy clean. The restaurant is neat, tidy and organized. There's not one negative thing I can ever find here and that's why I continue to come here. I can't believe that we have driven by this place soooo many times and never stopped. It looked like a place older folks would go. However, we heard it was a deli and from the photos online the food looked great. So, we tried it. Well, the food was amazing. They offer a very large menu. There is something for everyone. I ordered the Philly and could not believe how good it was. The portions are huge, so we split. The potato salad was great, not the grocery store type! We were a large party of 9, and they had no problem seating us. We waited 10 minutes for a table. The service was fantastic. The waitress was very nice and brought refills right away. She brought extra plates when asked and got to-go boxes for us. The ambiance is hard to explain. The pace is huge! Not really decorated like a deli at all. Kind of an upscale diner, very clean, and minimalist. Don't expect a fancy interior. It's kid-friendly and just an all-around great family place. We were seated in the back room which reminded me more of a tea room than a diner, quiet and comfortable seating; I could easily hold my conversation without talking over the other patrons. Our waitress was kind and courteous and helped make our selections easier. The food was was good; at least mine was. I enjoyed the Rueben which was loaded with corned beef. My fiancé got the latkes and German dumpling soup. The soup was tasty but did not really meet the paprikas taste we were led to believe it would have. It was heavy and filing and probably amazing on a cool fall day. Recommended by a local, we came for a late lunch on a weekday. We were warned that there would be a wait and indeed, we waited about 20 minutes. This place was bustling and the parking lot was jammed. (This place reminded me of a "Cheesecake Factory" but in a good way). Once seated, our server left us with menus (which were overwhelming). We decided upon the roast beef entree, the "mix and match" soup and half sandwich, a house garden salad and fantail shrimp. Was told by the person who ordered the roast beef that it was good; but the gravy, not so much. The garden salad was so large, it was hard to finish. The person who had the shrimp said they were only ok. I was taken aback by the size of the 1/2 sandwich (you'd have thought you were at Katz in NYC). It was overflowing with corned beefy goodness; the meat was the tiniest bit fatty, just like you want it, and thinly sliced so you could appreciate the flavor. The matzoh ball soup was equally great; with two large, perfectly textured balls, flecked with parsley. The chicken broth was excellent, chickeny goodness, with small pieces of diced carrots and chicken nestled beneath the matzoh balls. Although we did not order any appetizers, I was impressed by their abundant middle-eastern offerings and was sorry we didn't get to try them. Everything was very good, huge portions and delicious food. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and (of course) brought containers for our leftovers! We chose to pop in for breakfast. It was wonderful. The food was cooked as we requested, with tasty, was all fresh and nicely presented. We ordered the western omelette. We ordered well done bacon and it was cooked to perfection. Potato pancakes were good and served with sour cream and applesauce. They just learned to present everything fresh, attractive and plentiful. Delicious, generously portioned so much so that two of us could have shared. Only recommendation I have for diners is that you need extra time, just have to be patient, but it's worth every minute of the wait. We were looking for a restaurant to get salads and were not disappointed at all with our food choice laws. I got the Fatoush Salad with chicken. The chicken is marinated and packed with flavor. This is probably one of the best salads I've had. My husband got the Cranberry Chicken Salad which was topped with the marinated chicken as well and was delicious as well. My son got the Greek Salad with Gyro meat. The gyro meat is not the shaved gyro meat and looked somewhat like cut pieces of spam like meat, but he said not to let the look deter you because it had great flavor. The serving sizes are plentiful and could easily be shared by two. We had no room for their amazing looking desserts and I regretted not getting one to go. The ambience is that of a fine Restraunt with comfortable seating through out. It is very clean and well appointed and very accessible. Order your food at the table and order a lb of corned beef to go. Your waitress will have it ready to pick up before you leave. We ordered two pies for Thanksgiving which were the hit of our feest. FABULOUS... except for the skirt steak This is a wonderful restaurant, however, when I ordered the skirt steak, I received a cut of meat that wasn't skirt steak! I questioned the server and told her it was way too thick and not skirt steak. (It was thicker than a piece of flank steak as well!) The piece of mystery meat was about 2.5 inches high and 6-7 inches wide. Her response was that 'everything' is big at Joe's. I was with my 80-90 year old relatives and chose not to make it an issue. I had a long day of house hunting and was feeling kind of indecisive, but the Lebanese salad options looked solid, so I went to Joe's. The restaurant was full and there were a handful of groups waiting for tables, but the hostess suggested maybe I'd like to sit at the bar (first come). Bonnie the bartender was so friendly and nice. She gave me the food menu and then brought over the bar menu and told me the specials. I ended up with the panko crusted fish and pierogies from the specials list. On Friday's, most of the specials are fish, which is pretty awesome. My meal came with a very generous side salad with nice fresh lettuce and veggies. The portions were really generous! i shouldn't have eaten it all, but I just love pierogies, and the fish was very good. I'm from Columbus, where pierogies aren't a staple, and generally are served with bacon, which I don't care for, so I was super excited to see them on the menu with cheese and onions.
