Proficient and warm service sitting at the bar. The staff balanced awareness and accommodation with giving space. Food was all very well done with balance of flavors and textures and interesting ingredients. Most of the dishes are offered as half portions which is deeply appreciated by a single diner so I got to try much more than I anticipated.

We came here to celebrate my birthday and we really enjoyed it! Service was really good. We ordered the tofu, caviar cloud, and the half duck. The tofu was good and unique with the blueberries. They told us people usually order the caviar potato cloud per person, but we just shared it. The texture was not what we were expecting, but definitely know why they have cloud in the name. It's super light and airy. The duck was what we came here for and it was a big portion for the two of us. It was very flavorful and tender and came with peanut rice as well. They also gave us the peanut milk for my birthday which was yummy.

Great food! We ordered a wide variety of items on the menu and everything was fantastic. We started the meal off with the caviar potato cloud, an unassuming looking dish that ended up being my favorite menu item due to both its flavor and its novelty. As expected, the duck that The Progress is known for was amazing. The peanut fried rice included with the duck was bafflingly good despite how simple it looked. I absolutely loved the whole fish, which came with two very distinct and equally good sauces. Our waiter was fun, knowledgeable, and helpful, and the dining experience was great all around. Highly recommended!

Genuinely one of the best duck dishes I've had, other dishes were amazing too, but the duck was the star of the show. For the price can't really beat it. The fried rice along with the perfectly cooked duck had an amazing and strong umami flavor, the servers were attentive. The only thing I would skip was the cloud dish, it didn't really taste like much tbh. other than that I would try everything on the menu.

Out of the three restaurants owned and operated by this restaurant group (State bird, progresss and anchovy bar) this sits in the middle for me. I love the vibe of the restaurant, and the service was excellent and attentive, but ultimately, I judge a restaurant on the food... And I just do not find anything here jives with me at all. The corn dumplings filled with cheese were awfully tiny, over salted, and I thought the sour sauce and odd seed and spice pairing it came with, did not go well together at all. The eggplant and melon was... OK? It was just roasted eggplant with some melon in a light sauce with mint... I really don't understand this dish. The brown butter pasta was my favorite dish of the night, although again a little bit too sour for my taste. Peanut milk was forgettable. I just don't really understand this restaurant. I guess everything tasted fresh and simple, but nothing about the food here wowed me. I remember being similarly disappointed the last time I went to state bird provisions.

Had a reservation on a Sunday at 8 PM and it was a good, comfortable amount of people in the room. First off, the ambience here is BEAUTIFUL!! Dim lighting, warm tones, high ceilings, and a really cozy upscale atmosphere. The space feels intimate while still being lively. Definitely one of those places where you immediately feel like sitting there for a while. It's not just a date night spot, I also saw families (with kids) as well. We started with the caviar potato cloud and this felt like one of those fine dining dishes where you don't order it because you know it'll taste good... you order it because you're curious and just want to experience it. It's crushed potato chips and caviar underneath with an airy egg white cloud on top. Very interesting texture combination. Good to try once for the experience but I wouldn't order it again. For drinks we got the Bird's Eye View and One Punch Man and I actually loved both!! The Bird's Eye View has tequila, thai basil, thai chili, and citrus flavors and tasted super bright and refreshing with a slight herbal finish. It wasn't spicy at all. The One Punch Man has rum, bourbon, pandan, cashew, lime, pineapple, and coconut. This one was smooth, tropical, creamy, and so easy to drink. Very refreshing while still tasting unique!! The brown butter seaweed noodles with oyster mushrooms, tomato, and bonito flakes was definitely a unique dish too. The flavor was very savory and earthy. So unique!! The duck was tender and cooked beautifully with a nice sear on the outside. The sauce and vegetables paired really well with it too. Also came with a plate of tortillas and salsa!! Now that I'm realizing it.. I am not sure if we were supposed to wrap it in the tortilla?? We ate the duck by itself. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by both the ambience and food. Definitely one of those places where the overall experience stood out just as much as the dishes themselves!! Great experience and vibes :)

During a recent birthday week, some friends and I were lucky enough to get a table at the popular and trendy "The Progress" on Fillmore. The atmosphere has an open and airy feel, and the wait staff is extremely personable. The food is a modern California cuisine, with a fresh and organic taste. We shared all of our dishes, and my apologies as the photos aren't very good, but you can see that we thoroughly enjoyed all of them as we devoured them quickly. My friends said it was one of the best meals they have had in a long time. Definitely would go back, and to anyone who wants to go, I recommend booking well in advance - we were on a waitlist and were lucky enough to get a table a couple of weeks before.

feels upscale with a bit of a fusion influence, and everything is beautifully presented. Most of the dishes are designed to be shared, which makes it a fun place to go with a group and try a variety of flavors. The standout for me was the smoked duck. It was incredibly savory, smoky, and packed with flavor. Every dish that came out looked thoughtfully plated and elevated. The service was excellent, with friendly and knowledgeable waiters who made the meal feel relaxed and enjoyable. The ambiance is also really nice, with comfortable seating, warm lighting, and a polished but welcoming atmosphere.

We made a reservation to come here to celebrate a birthday. We looked forward to the dishes because we really enjoyed the sister restaurant State bird provision. We were first greeted to wait around at the bar until our table is ready so we just ordered some drinks to start. The waiters at the bar seemed like there were in a rush and really busy. After we got seated we ordered the pig head salad, caviar potato cloud, strawberries and guava, the whole trout and the half duck. The caviar potato cloud was our first bite and it was one person sized so we got one per person. I think the bite amazed me the most as the potato cloud was a very interesting texture, being light and foamy. The strawberries and the pig head was nothing surprising and a bit underwhelming. The strawberries were sprinkled with some salt and the white sauce under it I assumed was the guava did not taste like it. We enjoyed the trout and duck the most, trout was crispy and cooked nicely. The duck meat was tender but the wings and drumstick was a bit harder to eat. For dessert, we got the black sesame angel cake and the old fashion donuts. I really enjoyed both! Overall, main dishes like the trout and duck were good as well as the two desserts. The other dishes were a bit underwhelming considering the price.

Bbq half Smoked Duck

The pig head itself was tender and flavorful. It was served with fennel as the main accompaniment, thought personally I'm not a big fan of the fennel flavor, so that part wasn't really to my taste. The bbq duck was the dish I was looking forward to the most, but it took over 40 minutes to arrive. What made it worse was that during the entire wait, none of the servers came by to check on the order or give us any update. We were simply left waiting with no explanation or communication. The sliced duck meat was very tender and delicious, but the duck wing and leg extremely dry and tough. The meat was also difficult to separate from the bones and tended to stick to them.

The Progress--crafted by the renowned chef duo Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski--is a truly captivating spot. The concept and atmosphere are warm, stylish, and full of energy, with a menu where vibrant spices and fresh herbs take center stage to create unexpected, deeply satisfying layers of flavor. The menu setup can feel a bit overwhelming and tricky to navigate at first, but most of what we ordered hit the mark: * Tofu & Heart of Palm: The absolute star of the night. It was so uniquely delicious that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since! * Pasta & Fried Fish: Both were wonderfully executed, perfectly seasoned, and beautifully prepared. * Bread & Butter: Pure art. Do not skip this! A few things to keep in mind: * Pork Jowl: The spice blend here was way too aggressive for our taste and felt a bit overwhelming. * Spice & Digestion: The kitchen leans heavy on strong, punchy spices and rich herbs, which ended up leaving a few women in our group with uneasy stomachs by the end of the night. * Service: Our server started off noticeably blunt and cold, though they randomly warmed up and became much friendlier as the evening progressed. Despite a couple of missteps with specific dishes and a rocky start with service, the creative flavor profiles and standout dishes made it a memorable dining experience.

Wow wow. The ambiance, the service, the food , the vibes all of it is worth it!! I came here with my girlfriend for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We were seated within 5 minutes and the servers immediately checked in on us. The food was so good. My girlfriend is vegetarian so most of our orders were vegetarian. The dessert was so goood (biggest plate of the night lol). The drinks were also good! Did not disappoint.

Is this place good for toddlers/kids and have high chairs? I have a 1.5 year old.

It is a nice dining experience and a special place. I would not recommend bringing a toddler. I am sure the restaurant would be fine with it but don't think it is the right environment. I don't know if they have high chairs.

What are the vegan options for groups with vegan friends? Anything substantial or sad side dishes?

Are walk ins available?

bar seating is first come first serve, and some of them are also reserved. regular seating I believe is reservation only...and even those reservations are booked out months ago for weekend..

Is there a set menu or i can choose the dishes myself?

You choose the dishes from the menu. The waiter will advise you as to how many dishes to order. Approximately 3 per person. But if you order more entree dishes, they will be bigger so order less dishes

Good number of vegetarian options?

Yes I ate all vegetarian dishes and they were very accommodating. It was delicious.

Is infant allow?

Not likely
