Such a shame The Pressroom cannot get their act together.. I have been to over 10 concerts here (because of the artist) but have yet to have a good experience with the venue. The outside bouncers and doormen act like they have NO CLUE what is going on. Their "protocol" and searching methods are never consistent, leaving you with a 30minute to 1hour wait EVERY time you come to a show. NOT ACCEPTABLE. The bouncers inside do not watch the "V.I.P." Lounges so let anyone up there.. Not worth paying the double price ticket to be on a raised balcony. Save your money! Relentless Beats always have friendly staff and people working merch. Wish they could be part of the bouncing and bar tending! Would make for a better experience for everyone. I will most likely come for more events in the future but think it's a joke that they have not done anything to improve their customer service and respect to patrons.. read more

As gritty as the edge of downtown it lies in, The Pressroom is a middle-sized venue that's intimate while still large enough to host some reputable acts. And I mean REALLY intimate--I don't think I've ever been so thoroughly patted down by security. By the looks of it, it could hold nearly a thousand people. In the back are several bars where you can find some decent beers on tap. Shots too if that's your thing. The acoustics are great, and you can get a good view of the stage from almost anywhere, so you won't miss a beat! Other bonuses include surprisingly clean restrooms and a spacious patio with some chairs. The little things count, too. Things that take away from the experience are how freaking hot it is. There is NOT adequate AC in this venue by any means, and the gigantic ceiling fans can only do so much. I can deal with that, but expect to get sweaty! Overall, I find this to be an above average venue that does a good job of booking a wide array of acts. It too often seems as though metal bands go to Nile, indie acts go to Crescent, and rappers visit Club Red. Shows I've seen listed here are rather eclectic, and hopefully they continue to poach from venues in the east valley. read more

Came here for RAW ART. I thought this place was really cool for party or concert venue, unfortunately they were so disorganized with getting people in. We waited for 30 minutes in line just to get in and it seems the line just stuck and didn't move and move anywhere. If they have a better organization with the line for people to get in faster, that will be great until then it's disastrous. read more

Went to see one of rap history's most iconic, innovative, trailblazing, trendsetting rappers from NY - the one and only Rakim! I could talk all day about how great the show was and how much I enjoyed seeing this legendary performer. And the Pressroom really made the whole event extra special! Drinks are not cheap but they are potent and was happy to use my Yelp free drink offer for my second one! Good Sound system which was not over powering or killing my eardrums so I could enjoy the show without my ears ringing for a week. Love the lights, sound and the staff. Great venue will be back again for another great show! read more

Saw a punk/rock show here last night. We're not from around here so this is based off what we directly experienced. Parking: metered parking or shady paid parking lot. Paid $6 to park my car, don't know if the guy was a legit parking attendant or someone making some cash on unsuspecting show goers, but $6 wasn't bad. Better to be picked up or dropped off I'm sure. My car and stuff were fine after the show. Venue: Larger on the inside than I thought. Lots of floor space and one large bar and another smaller bar. Saw a back patio for smokers, but didn't take a look. Tons of lighting and sound was decent. Bathroom: there are like 5-6 stalls for the ladies room which isn't a lot in my opinion, the line was HUUUUGE. Also, mirrors and sinks are shared between guys and girls bathroom. Awkward much? Plus there's security who stands right outside to regulate the line and emergency exit? Bar: didn't buy drinks but a small bottle of water was $4. They also didn't have any drinking fountains or give out glasses of water for free. You HAVE to buy water or you get none at all. Since we didn't bring any money in for fear of losing it in the crowd, we were really dehydrated. Security: there's lots of them! Don't know if they've never seen a punk show before, but they literally had 3 huge dudes stand in the middle of the pit and grab people if they started even slightly pushing against other people. Grabbed crowd surfers by the ankles and yanked them down to the ground hurting more than helping. They also grabbed me when I was bent over on the floor looking for something in the crowd. Literally grabbed my waist and started yanking me away, I had to scream at them not to touch me before they stopped. Really rude and unprofessional. My experience: tickets were affordable, show started on time, lighting and sound was decent, band was killer, the crowd sucked. Also, this kid pissed someone off and got decked in the nose, which consequently broke his nose and he was gushing blood EVERYWHERE. Ran to a bar tender for some clean up and medical help. He seemed lost. Called another lady over, also seemed lost. I had to steal a towel from the bar tender and return to the floor and clean up the puddle of blood so no one stepped in it. Don't even know if anyone helped the kid or if they called him an ambulance since after the show he was sitting outside with his nose still bleeding. Blood on the dance floor, while hardcore, is really dangerous for obvious reasons, blood borne pathogens and slippery, and there was a lot and the only person cleaning it up was me? Ridiculous. Probably won't ever come back to this venue. read more

If Crescent Ballroom and the Marquee had a sordid tryst in a mid-priced hotel, the result would be The Pressroom. It's got a layout that embodies both Crescent and Marquee but with a skosh more panache. (Don't forget to look up at the lights - very goth Chihuly). The area for the "grown folks" has THE largest fan I've ever seen and that is pure brilliance. It's like someone finally realized that alcohol + dancing = hot sweatiness. There's also a large (but not as large) over the non-drinking area but presumably it's because those folks are further away from menopause. *ahem* Bartenders were friendly and drinks were maybe even on the reasonable side (but don't tell anyone I said that). I saw folks complaining about the lack of free water but I've been going to concerts for a long time and I've NEVER seen water offered free anywhere. Put the cost of water in your concert budget and stop complaining. The only real criticism I have is the parking. They mention their lot on their website but I'll bet it's over half full after the employees show up. While it's downtown Phoenix and expecting a decent sized parking lot is unrealistic, they could help their patrons out by posting nearby lots/garages. It was an enjoyable show/venue and I wouldn't hesitate to come here again! read more

Had a great time here seeing the show Dating Stories. The comedians were hilarious. There were seats set up for the show. The venue is smaller than others downtown, but I felt like I had enough space. Bathrooms were clean. The bar moved fast and poured strong drinks for me and my friends. There is a parking garage I used that was a few minutes walk down the street, as well as some street parking. read more

What a great new space for events! And it is right downtown. The Pressroom has only been open a few months. We've all passed this space and it just looked like all the other older buildings around the courthouse area. Not anymore! It is now a beautifully transformed space - inside. I like the way they have set-up it up in a modular fashion, so it (bars, etc.) can be moved around based on the size and focus of the event. The walls and stage were the only permanent fixtures. They still have some room to grow with furniture and the green rooms were definitely dated. These felt like they hadn't changed in 40-50 years, but hey it is a growing business and the location is what it is all about, right? Sitting at my table listening to the speaker and performers on stage I realized that, even though this building used to house a large printing press (hence the name silly!) it was perfect for its new life. Acoustics were excellent. It was cool and quiet . . . no outside noise carried in. Just our little bubble. How many other little secrets of our city are there out there that we don't know about until we are invited in? Too many. read more

The venue is unprofessional and unorganized. The head security refused to give me the owners number and email so I can write about my harassment experience by security. I paid for a VIP ticket and was refused entry on one side and bullied from the other side. The security guard named Caesar was extremely hostile, argumentative, threw temper tantrums and called me a nobody as I left. This place sucks. This should be a place for music, compassion and love - not for men who try to emotionally abuse and talk down to women. What kind of man calls a woman a nobody? Men are suppose to protect women and make them feel secure and safe. Maybe he was racist because I am full Mexican and he was white. There was no excuse for him to say that when he can't even figure out his venue. My lanyard says "VIP" and security kept trying to say it was a souvenir when I paid the extra money to be in the VIP. Nobody chose to hear me out or answer my questions or see my perspective. They all sat and argued and said I was being complicated when I feel that I was treated extremely unfairly for what I paid for. It was so fun until they ruined my night. I will never spend my time or money at this horrible place ever again. You don't call people nobody. If you feel that way about yourself it's no reason to go around bringing others down. Security was frustrated because they didn't have their part together and refused to give me the owners number or email because they know they are in the wrong. The guy at the ticket booth ended up throwing a piece of a paper with his managers email on it at me. And kept trying to talk me into just staying when it was already hostile as that Caesar guard was going around saying I was being complicated when I was just trying to explain the situation and how it felt hostile and I didn't feel comfortable around that Caesar guard. I didn't want him to walk me back to vip because of his aggressive behavior. I wanted to owners email and number cause that wasn't okay. I paid for vip and couldn't even chill comfortably and security made it even worse. Being a small female around argumentative men is not a safe place. Especially when there talking down to you. Went to a show here last night and I must admit that my friends and I were not happy at all. For a place that does so many events each year you'd think they'd have certain processes down, but they managed to be disorganized as if it were their first event. To start my two friends and I went down early to wait in line and get good spots. A door was open, security next to it, and ropes to show where the line forms. People gather there and the line grows huge over the hour. Security says nothing to the people standing there until a girl walks by and lets everyone waiting know that we're all in the wrong line. Maybe 5 people stayed that were in the correct area but everyone moved including the people that were first in line. I'm sure they were livid to sit there talking to security thinking they were first. After everyone moves and we wait again. As we approached the front they then tell us again, wrong line. There's a 21 and older line on the opposite side. Completely back in the direction we came from. Gets better, while waiting again they tell us there's another line. Now it's girls one side and guys the other. Suddenly my friends I was with, we are split up as one line moves faster than the other. This isn't good because I have all the tickets on my phone. How do I get my friends in when I have the tickets? I wait until I'm up front and ask the guy checking IDs if he needs me to step aside until my party catches up so they can get all our tickets at once but he says no, wait inside. I head to the next guy scanning tickets and inform him of the same situation. I bought the tickets and my friends and I are split up. How do I get them in? He responds he'll need me and my female friend to wait to the side inside and he'll scan ALL the tickets. Then changes it to he'll scan two, I requested he do the top two but he scans the bottom two. Now there's more confusion because I asked him to scan the top two, he tells me that's what he did. But my friend and I both clearly witness something different. I email my friend all the tickets and tell him what happened so he can try to get one of the tickets scanned. His phone doesn't work to open the tickets so I try to approach the lady scanning tickets and I tell her I have his ticket on my phone. As I'm holding out my phone near her she turns and elbows me hard in the rib and shoves me away while she mumbles something at me and looks annoyed with me. I stood there in shock that I had just been assaulted by a ticket check in worker. My friends both inside waiting behind me and in front of me waiting for me to give the tickets were all in shock. Eventually my friends phone started working and he was able to pull up the tickets. Once everyone was together inside the first comment from everyone was how stunned they were she elbow checked me in my rib, and shoved me. I have to say I've worked in customer service in some form since 16. I've never laid a finger on anyone. She wasn't even a bouncer. Her job was literally to scan tickets which I had everyone's tickets. Why refuse to take them from me? If so then why not simply tell me I'll have to wait in another area. But NEVER put your hands on someone. She almost completely ruined my night by assaulting me. It's all that was on my min the first hour of the show and even the whole time I went home. read more

I like to repost this complaint every couple years because to my knowledge nothing has changed here. My brother was discriminated here for having a mental disorder. He forgot his ID and after having an unpleasant conversation, where I explained that they could disengage with my brother because he was getting agitated. the security guard followed us to our car, shined a flash light in my brothers face and asked, "how crazy is he?"...I complained to the venue and asked for a refund and an apology, never heard back until they responded to my review saying that their security guards value security as a priority. How does following someone to their car trying to continue to agitate a person with a disorder have anything to do with security. Decent sized venue. I like that they allow you to go outside to take a breather. It gets crammed in there sometimes. Monarch theatre didn't let me go outside so I was suffocating inside the whole time. However, wherever you are in the venue, the music system is great and the view is great wherever you are. A couple of friends and I came to The Pressroom on Saturday night to watch Knife Party perform and were extremely stoked for the show. Unfortunately, our experience was very poor and we can definitely say that we will NEVER come back to this place. Upon arriving, my friends and I decided to have a couple of drinks before the main event and headed to the main bar inside the venue. This was a few hours before Knife Party's set was scheduled so the bar wasn't as busy as we expected. The first time we went up, the bartender pretty much ignored us for quite some time and was serving individuals who got there after us for about 10-15 minutes. We patiently waited to get our drinks and headed to the dance floor to enjoy the warm up DJ. During our second trip, things took a turn for the worse! The male bartender wearing a set of glasses along with a bald eagle denim jacket also ignored our group and continued to serve the other patrons. When he finally acknowledged us after waving him down, we ordered a few shots and a couple of beers. It was very hot inside the venue so I decided to grab a napkin to help wipe down my sweat. At this time, one of my friends calmly stated to the bartender that he "wasn't happy with the service" in those exact words. The bartender then decided to throw a fit and SMACKED MY HAND, took the napkins away, and took the drink from my other friend's hand. He then responded in a pissy manner with "You better watch your act!". When we asked what exactly we did, he then again stated "You better watch your act!" and called Security. We took our drinks and proceeded again back to the dance floor. During the event, we noticed that the security personnel that were called to the bar by the childish bartender were surrounding us and did not move from their place during the entire set. We also witnessed hand signals being given to other members who then proceeded to THROW WATER BOTTLES at our group throughout the entire set. Instead of trying to complain at that time and risk being thrown out, we decided to make the best of it and enjoy what was left of an amazing set. As we were leaving the venue, we were also followed by security which was absurd! First I would like to say that the actions committed by the bartender and security that night are considered to be ASSAULT. I really hope no one else has to go through this for both the customer and club owner's sake because anyone could easily take legal action against this kind of behavior and shut down what could be a great place to see some amazing electronic acts. It is a real shame that things went down the way they did because I was planning on seeing Travis Scott at The Pressroom with my friends but now we will take our business elsewhere and make the drive to Tucson instead. read more

I've been here a few times this year. Once to see Knife Party again for TrapFest and most recently to see Carnage. The Pressroom is huge. Although I do enjoy coming here to see shows this place definitely isn't for everyone. It's dark, VERY dark. I usually come for EDM shows so the crowd is usually really cool and ACTIVE which is a good thing everyone just wants to be there to jump around and have fun. It's HOT really HOT inside and if it's during the summer it will be HOT outside so don't come here expecting it to be some type of glamorous venue to stand around and look cute because this isn't the place. On the flip side woman wear next to nothing and end up taking their shirts off as the night progresses. (EDM show experience only you may or may not see a boob or 2) No seriously it gets pretty hot especially if you're in the crowd. If you don't plan on being in the crowd you are DEFINITELY missing out on a good time. So quit being a chump and join in on the fun! There really isn't a bad place in the joint if you are there for a show. Well unless you are off to the side in one of the "VIP" sections which I don't recommend. Only places to sit are outside ironically that's also the only place you can buy an adult beverage at. Drinks aren't very expensive but you won't get to enjoy it because you don't want to miss out on what's going on inside. You can still get water, juice, soda inside but who wants that without some type of liquor in it? The Patio is pretty big sometimes they will even have a DJ set-up outside too. Bathrooms are easy to get to there are your usual ones inside and they have porta potty's set-up outside too. Can't really comment on the parking I usually Uber there. But there is a parking lot and plenty of meters on the both sides of the street. Only thing I do not like about it is not being able to buy or take drinks inside. read more

I went here for a DJ competition a few months ago and it was great. However, last night I saw Flume there and the experience was not so good. Firstly, there was no alcohol allowed inside. No bueno as if you wanted a drink you had to stand out in the phoenix summer heat to drink it and miss the show. Also, they only allowed you to buy one drink at a time. The second issue was that even inside the venue, it was still hot as hades. Not sure why, but I'm guessing at $40 a ticket they can afford to properly air condition the space; a necessity in the summer in Arizona. I am writing this review in hopes that for future shows they will adequately cool it, and allow alcohol inside. There are other shows coming up there that I would like to see and am hoping for a better experience. read more

This venue is awesome! Nice big dance floor, kick- ass sound system, & a newly installed light & laser system, & a decent sized patio area. A friend of ours is a promoter that has attempted to put on modern, state of the art monthly dance parties at this venue, but it's like pulling teeth trying to get people to go, as people continue to go to lame Charlies instead, that's Phoenix for you..... I saw Flume here a while back and it was a good experience overall. There are things that could have been better like allowing us to drink inside so that we wouldn't have to directly under the mist to avoid stroking out. It's a cool 300 degrees at night this time of year lol. But overall it wasn't crazy bad, I get why they don't want us old people around the under aged with alcohol. Don't want to lose the liquor license. Promoters were cool too as I even got a free drink :) How can you complain when that happens?! Would be fine with going to see another artist at this venue in the future. read more

I love the pressroom! very spacious compared to other venues. Sound is great! A big plus is the big fans inside to cool you down while dancing or what not. Outside there are sometimes another stage and its just a dope vibe outside. Only downside are the lines to get a drink. Had to wait about 30min one time. I will come back forsure though! read more

I am at the E-40 concert right now! A couple weeks ago I had surgery and my husband and I had already bought tickets... from the moment I told security to be careful with my stomach because I had surgery, so was treated like royalty. I was given a free VIP seat, I was checked on by the amazing security and bar staff!! They are making our first time here such a stress reliever. Have gone to two concerts there......one with some seating, one with "VIP" seating that was equal to the cost of the tickets, and only a few seats would have kind of been marginally worth it. There is no reason they can't have some high top tables (like at the first one) even if it's toward the back. Not everyone needs to be at the very front, and give some options please. Price of drinks okay......$4 water though, really? On a good note, the acoustics are good, and it has the potential to be a good venue to see live music. Went to a show sunday night. Decent sized place but the vip section isn't so great. Glad they had a patio and thank god for the extra porter potties outside because the line inside was crazy. Plus side super cheap beer, sound system was good and the lights were intense. Down side, the patio had like 10 chairs and the bathroom only had 1 blowdryer for everyone. It made me appreciate the van buren venue for all the tables and chairs outside. It gets super hot inside so bring a fan! read more

I was at The Pressroom last night for the Suicide Girls show. The venue is not set up for a show of that nature. They only had about 50 chairs set up for a place that supposedly holds 1000. This meant standing room only, which would be fine, if the stage was high enough to see over the average height person. We spent the entire show, along with other guests, moving around to try and find the best view. Forget seeing what was going on when the girls were on the floor. Even the people in the raised VIP sections were sitting up on the backs of the couches to see. On top of not being able to see the actual show, the security team kept moving the barricades around and adjusting the crowd for the first half hour of the show. They also charged me $4 for a Kirkland bottle of water. You read the right, FOUR DOLLARS for a bottle of water they got at Costco. It would take something damn near miraculous to get me to set foot in this place again. read more

Friday was the first time I've ever been at this venue; I actually did not know it existed. It is a cute little venue; it looks kind of small on the outside but it is quite spacious. Went to a concert with the band Parachute ft Matt Wertz and Mikey Wax and it was amazing. Located basically in the heart of Phoenix, so you know you get to see the lovely sunset when waiting in line outside. read more

This is a great place to see a concert. I went with my son to see Rival Sons last night and the atmosphere worked perfectly to enhance the experience. The is plenty of standing room in front of the stage, tabled seating off to the left and the right, and raised VIP seating just behind the tabled seating. A full bar ran across the back wall. We will definitely be keeping an eye on and heading back to the Pressroom. A great time at a great location! read more

First and foremost I'm new to Phoenix so it was wonderful to find the press room and get to experience some wonderful groups that are brought in. I especially loved the staff but in particular was our server Jennifer, in Vip she really gave her all to us and wanted our experience to be great! I felt like we were in a five star establishment because of her high quality of service,and then another time she was behind the bar and remembered us by name and was again gracious and professional, all in one. Although, I need to say, it really was a zoo in there as far as being busy. It didn't get in the way of her service and presence! Thank you for making my night great! read more
