History. How I love it when a historic building is restored and has been given a whole new life. This beautiful business in downtown Phoenix was originally The First Baptist Church of Phoenix. Renamed The Monroe Street Abbey. After a devastating fire in 1984 it stood empty for several years. Many folks had their eyes on it for potential investment and it was eventually purchased by an organization that knew that the downtown location and the history would soon provide it a new life. The National Register of Historic Places also saw its value to the community. It was listed on the Register in 1982. Currently there is an Art Gallery/workshop and art class space facing Monroe Street with office spaces on the lower level of the community space. The Sanctuary, Baptismal and Bell Tower are still undergoing final touches to create more gallery, bar/restaurant, music venue, coffee shop & additional office spaces. It is a large building with a lot of potential for the spaces that aren't being used yet. Perhaps you are looking for a larger space for your little shop that has outgrown its walls? The Monroe Street Abbey might just be the place to move when your lease runs out.

What a wonderfully magical place to practice yoga...so peaceful and inspiring! I can't wait to see how the develop this space and hopefully keep all of its character...hope they can continue yoga here too!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. The entire house has been restored to represent how the original owners would have it set up as closely as possible. The inside details are gorgeous and intricate. Our tour ended up being more like 45 minutes because it was just us and we didn't ask questions. It was a great way to spend a little bit of time before our next activity.

It is an incredible work of art, craftmanship, technology and innovation, even after 130 years of its construction in 1895. Setting aside that one can actually attend what Victorians' interest of communicating with the dead through in house scheduled Séances, Rosson House offers a magnificent view and experience of that bygone age at the turn of the century industrialization which can only be likened to our recent 21st Century internet technological advances. Walking through the main door into the foyer, climbing the beautiful staircase, entering a bed chamber, seeing a pre-modern bathroom, admiring the kitchen and pantry antiquities in food preparation, admiring the home's décor, its design, its furnishings simply takes you back in time and allows one to somewhat sense the then lifestyle and what it was like to live a sophisticated, well-to-do lifestyle during that period. One is amazed at the stunning quality and fastidious workmanship created and implemented almost six generations ago! And compare the quality and art Rosson House personifies to today's Ikea and unassembled products. With every turn, every corner, every step and every breath of one's journey through this place in history is enjoyable and fascinating. The folks who walk you through this historic menagerie are professional and delightful, as well as brilliant in their presentation and knowledge of all things Rosson. I must say, this has been one of my most memorable attractions to attend in Phoenix and wholeheartedly recommend if you've not visited to do so as well as bringing out of town friends and family. The restoration and preservation of Rosson House is most admirable. And, make sure to stop off at the Museum Store - its well worth it.

Heritage Square is home to some preserved 19th and 20th century homes, museums and restaurants. The Rosson House is a beautiful restored 1895 Queen Anne Victorian house that was once home to early settlers in Phoenix. Heritage Square also hosts many food and cultural festivals. There is a large garage nearby for parking and ASU has a small campus next door. The Arizona Science Center is the building that stands out the most here at Historic Heritage Square. I have gone to it a couple of times and have enjoyed my time there. Arizona's most iconic restaurant Pizzeria Bianco by James Beard Award-winner Chris Bianco is also here. It can be a very long wait to get a table and has been visited by many celebrates like Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Fallon over the years. Sometimes I will park near Heritage Square while going to a baseball game and like to enjoy its relaxing peaceful atmosphere before the game. Every other experience here has been great no complaints, however this last visit was odd. We had an odd interaction with the valet attendant so I wanted to provide feedback to management and I approached a woman and she identified herself as a manager, later to find out her name was Phoebe, while I was speaking Phoebe was holding laughter back. She was laughing at me while I was talking. I was so appalled I had to walk away so I didn't embarrass myself by getting loud bc it was just so inappropriate and RUDE. Now let's get to the room, it appeared clean but then we realized that it wasn't, like maybe it wasn't flipped over completely by the housekeeper, the bed appeared cleaned and made but when we climbed in after our dinner and drinks there was sand in it. We had to sleep on the towels from the bathroom because it was too late to ask them for a new room. The next morning I called for clean extra towels and they never arrived. The blow dryer offered by the hotel is a Whisper 1200, I mean Hyatt come on every other hotel brand has upgraded to a normal size dryer.... Now let's talk about how the outlet in the bathroom didn't even work so we couldn't get ready for our brunch at the hotel because the dryer only worked by the lamp and there was no mirror except in the bathroom. We mentioned to the clerk at the front desk later what happened and they didn't seem to mind that we're inconvenienced. A manager appeared to be standing near the young check out clerk but she pretended to look busy so as not to have to engage, not sure. The whole stay was odd. Except the B&B bartender who was really nice and they had a great guitar player in the outdoor bar. We enjoyed that part. Oh and the Compass Room meal was 10/10! 5 Stars! We loved it!
