Garlic Koa - Chicken Karaage, Cabbage, Edamame, Corn, Garlic Aoili, Tamari Glaze, Nori, Tamago, Green Onion, Sesame, Togarashi, Ginger
    Chris C.

I recently dined at The Poke Box North, a relatively new restaurant in Whitby. They offer a wide variety of made-to-order poke bowls, using fresh ingredients. They offer several signature bowls, or you can create your own, with three different sizes to suit your appetite. There are lots of ingredients, garnishes, sauces, and other add-ons to choose from. I opted for the following: Ruffled Up Smoked Duck, Cabbage, Tempura Shrimp, Mandarin Orange, Cucumber Dill, Tamago, Tamari Glaze, Furikake, Sweet Onion, Crispy Onion, Cucumber Garlic Koa Chicken Karaage, Cabbage, Edamame, Corn, Garlic Aoili (sauce), Tamari Glaze (sauce), Nori, Tamago, Green Onion, Sesame, Togarashi, Ginger I substituted Surimi for the Tempura Shrimp in the Ruffled Up. Both bowls were delicious! If you're in Whitby, check them out!

So fresh and tasty. The fish was non-fishy, cold and refreshing. I had the big umami, I loved the different textures in every bite...the crispy tempura bits and the creamy avocado. I added crispy onion, it just elevated my poke bowl. Staff are friendly. Service was fast even though it was busy. It's going to be a regular place for me.

This place has been open for a week, so decided to pop in. Their menu options are interesting. I decided to go with a signature bowl, the umami one. I chose a half sushi rice half blend rice base. I also asked for pickled ginger and spicy mayo. The food is really appetizing and filling. The flavours complement each other. The staff was really nice and fast moving. Will definitely be going back, possibly trying a spicier option.

Parking is available right by the carousel or you can go underground by the condo complex. Interior is pretty standard. Nice to see that they have tables available for you to dine-in, but I see most are doing to-go, so nice convenience. Staff were friendly and nice to see they are following health and safety quite seriously when assembling the bowls. Food Their food had always been pretty staple, where you can either select a fixed menu setup or build your own poke with a choice of base/protein/toppings. I also like that they have an option to do salad or soba noodles besides rice as the base. I went for the Aloha Honey Ginger Salmon (crab meat slaw * pineapple * seaweed salad * masago) and Mauna Loa Spicy Shoyu Salmon (edamame * spicy cucumbers * spicy seaweed salad * masago) They've got daily specials too, so it's nice you don't have to break the bank. If you need a go-to spot for healthy, filling meals, this is the one!

Ingredients tasted fresh and i honestly enjoyed everything in the bowl and how all the flavours meshed together. It included most of my favourite ingredients for poke bowls! My daughter has been sharing her fav spots and we are always looking for new spots to try. Komeya came to mind for me to share with her to try out their ramen, which I have never tried before despite getting take out poke bowls for years. We decided to dine in. Warmly greeted by all of the familiar staff that have put our take out orders together and chatted with over the years. I love the cozy set up inside. They have tables and chairs or the window seating with the bar height stools. We ordered both the Miso Ramen and the Shoyu Ramen, Gyoza dumplings and chicken Karaage. The broth was amazing and full of so much flavor. The pork was so tender and all of the ingredients meshed so well with a great balance of vegetables, meat, broth and the noodles. We have already been back 2x. Komeya also has bento boxes, shrimp tempura and a great variety of hot foods, milk teas and cafe items.

I first tried it about 8 years ago when they only sold poke bowls. Now they have appetizers (gyoza, karage chicken), specialty drinks and hot dishes such as ramen and beef rice bowls. My favorite has always been the kale noodle salmon poke bowl! I love it so much I asked if I can buy their kale noodle uncooked in bulk. Unfortunately he wouldnt share their supplier name and said they could not sell it to me that way lol. But i did find something similar in the J-town grocery store, just not the same :(. The light sesame dressing , little rice crispies makes the dish. It is served with cherry tomatoes, some sliced cucumbers, pink ginger, edamame beans and corn and of course topped with your favorite sauce. Ive also tried this dish as a rice bowl but prefer the kale noodle as that chew really makes it unique to the Komeya experience. The staff are always so friendly. Highly recommend. Prices have significantly increased over the years.

I got the poke your way regular size, which comes with two choices of proteins and a variety of different topping options. I loved how many sauce options they had and your ability to customize the level of sauce you want. It came out to be a really flavorful, refreshing, a delicious bowl of poke. I feel like the portion size could be slightly bigger though. While it's not the best poke I've had, I feel they are deserving of 5 stars because of their excellent service. We came in close to their closing time, and immediately upon entering we were greeted by the owner. He was so nice and very accommodating! We had to stay a little longer in the shop to wait for a taxi after eating and he didn't rush us out despite it being past their closing time. The place itself was also really spacious and well-lit. There are a good amount of tables to dine in as well. Good poke and 10/10 service :)
