I got to meet celebrity chef, Vikram Vij, the icon of Indian cuisine in Canada and the person behind this menu. I've watched him on The Food Network for years so this was a treat. He was so humble and engaging, interacting with all the guests. Of course, I had to have a frankie. I chose their Sauteed Portobello Mushroom Frankie, a vegetarian option served on paratha (flatbread). There were also options to have it in a bowl with rice, or with salad. It was delicious! One friend had the Bombay Roadside Sandwich with Paneer, another vegetarian option. made with cucumbers, tomatoes, paneer cheese, and more. Others had a variety of bowls, pakoras, and samosa chaat. He was very disappointed in his meal and said if he was new to the cuisine, this visit would have turned him off Indian food completely. As a foodie I know places can have good and bad days. I generally don't enjoy crunchy / textured foods but my friend quite enjoyed the puffed rice addition of this dish. The chicken had a unique flavor, unlike anything I've had before. It was solid. Their Chow Mein is another dish that they're known for. I seem to prefer noodles over rice these days. (But, I'm generally disappointed with most places noodles.) These were SUPERB! They had a smoky flavor to them and were a 10/10. I've had Thali but never a Thakali. While similar, they are different; We chose the mutton option. This dish was incredibly tender and bursting with flavors. Dish after dish impressed us. This spot hits all the right notes and is a definite must visit if you're in the area.
