The Poke Box located along Yonge St. near Churchill Ave in North York serves up poke bowls with a variety of assorted toppings. Having multiple locations within Toronto as well as in Whitby and Waterloo, The Poke Box has expanded to the Willowdale neighbourhood this past year. This particular location has seating where you can dine in or grab take out.
I stopped by The Poke Box on a Saturday around 1pm. The store had a few customers and I had to wait a few minutes to place my order. Menu wise, you can either choose from twelve signature boxes or create your own poke. They also have side dishes like ajitama and seaweed salad. For drinks they have green tea, coconut water, coke, iced tea, or water.
I decided to grab a large "The Poke Box" which consisted of salmon, ahi tuna, edamame, cucumber, red onion, seaweed salad, tamago, crab salad, house shoyu, roasted sesame and furikake. You are also able to add as many finishing touches to your poke bowl free of charge. Finishing touches include crispy onions (most popular), green onions, sesame seed, furikake, togarashi (the 9 spice blend), chili flakes, jalapenos, toasted coconut, pumpkin seeds, and pickled ginger). I decided to just get crispy onions and pickled ginger. My poke was assembled right in front of me which was great. Service was friendly.
The large size portion is very generous! I ended up eating my poke for 2 meals. The flavours of "The Poke Box" worked well together and I enjoyed the salmon and tuna together with the other ingredients. It was a filling poke bowl for sure.
Overall, a good place for poke in the area! Definitely will be back if I am craving poke! read more
