The to-go box was packed with food, easily enough for two meals for me! At around $18, I was happy! I really enjoyed the flavor a lot... it was complex and super spicy. I loved the fried basil, and the cool cucumber was a nice touch for balance. The ground pork was seasoned very well, but overall it was just a bit too fatty for my preferences. The rice was likewise just a bit too oily, leading me to feel a bit too satiated after eating it. Regardless, it definitely hit the spot and I'll be back to try other dishes!

They have Christmas lights which are very pretty, but I went at night in mid October so I wasn't facing the brutal Texas heat. They have really good hours, perfect for a late night snack. The workers were quick with our food. They call it out and you go pick it up from the trailer. I will say it looked mostly like paid parking, but we risked it & didn't pay as we were probably there for less than 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the rice was so hot it was still visibly steaming from what I can only assume was a microwave, drowned in a watery gravy I never asked for, next to the old cabbage with solidified liquid. I brought the plate back to the counter, explained the chicken was refrigerator cold, and asked them to reheat it. I'm writing this today with an upset stomach. I wish I could say this was a one-time issue. It's not. I've been trying this restaurant, on and off, for over 15 years, and I kept giving them chance after chance because I wanted so badly for it to be good. I first met the owner when he ran a food truck, before the restaurant existed. I was excited; there weren't many Jamaicans in Austin at the time, and I was happy to support one. The rice and peas was so bad I threw the plate away. Years later, I tried the restaurant location. I ordered curry goat, took it to my car, and found the meat flavorless, fatty, and poorly trimmed; basically inedible. I threw it away in the parking lot. I later ordered oxtail through Uber Eats: flavorless again, poorly prepped meat, and an actual rock in the rice and peas. I tried introducing the child to Jamaican food with one of their beef patties, and it was dry and flavorless. Yesterday I ordered the "safest" thing on the menu, brown stew chicken, specifically because I no longer trust myself to spend real money on anything more ambitious here. I still got food that had clearly been microwaved and reheated unevenly, served with a piece of chicken that was still cold. Are we really selling microwaved leftovers out of an established restaurant with a huge kitchen? Jamaican food is something our culture takes real pride in. This restaurant has had a decade and a half to get it right, and instead I've watched it consistently cut corners on seasoning, on prep, and now on basic food safety. I don't say this lightly: if you want real Jamaican food, this isn't where you'll find it, and depending on the day, what you're served may not even be handled safely.

Surf and Turf po'boys. Insanely good tacos and po'boys, ate here twice. The kiss yo mama tacos are awesome! We also got the buffalo shrimp tacos BUT had them blackened then rolled in buffalo sauce. Just wow!!!!!! Lastly got the fried shrimp po boy and mahi mahi tacos blackened. You will be full, and want to go back, but it is kind of expensive (compared to the other trucks) but the seafood is super fresh and made to order. Not over cooked, simply perfect. Great staff. Surf and turf soft shell crab po boy was 2 fresh soft shells fried perfectly in cornmeal. The crabs were still moist yet crispy. Soft shells are seasonal so I will be back ASAP to have them again. Picnic had a great mix of trailers and BYOB is always a bonus. read more

The food trucks are in a circle and surround a playground in the middle. It is a cool venue and while I wouldn't call it particularly nice, it is fairly clean. After the taco appetizer, we ordered gnocchi pomodoro and the casarecce with basil pesto and tomatoes from Artipasta with tiramisu for dessert. The pesto was good, but lacking in flavor a bit. The gnocchi were delicious, great texture and a wonderful tomato sauce. We honestly should have placed two orders for the gnocchi and skipped the casarecce. My friends liked the tiramisu but said it was a bit different from a traditional tiramisu. We wanted to try a vodka pizza from Day's Pizza but they were completely sold out for the day (no dough left). We tried the paneer entree and aloo paratha from the Desi Spot. The food took awhile to come out and I would have liked a few more pieces of paneer but it was all delicious. Overall a cool spot and a nice way to try a bunch of different food trucks and cuisines at once. Just check the hours for the food trucks you want to try before you go.
