Golden Castle is a White Castle-inspired slider trailer tucked in the back of Shangri-La, and it's basically a marriage of White Castle and Golden Tiger's excellent execution of fast food cuisine. You can order by the half dozen or dozen. I really like that you can also get a single chicken slider. It was a big hit with our group. We ordered through Square and the service was quick. I also like that fries come with a side of special sauce for dipping. I'll always take burger sauce over ketchup. The one weird thing we ran into is when ordering on through Square, there is an option to select to eat at Shangri-La or else food is to go. Everyone in our party selected to eat at Shangri-La, but half of us got ours as to-go orders. The sliders are best fresh, so I recommend eating there. I imagine takeout or delivery would lose a lot of the delicious textures that make sliders so distinct, not to mention losing the crispiness of the crinkle cut fries. It was no problem to take them out of their to-go wrappings, but just a bit weird to have that as a separate option when ordering and then not to get it right. As for Shangri-La, it's a classic east side dive bar with a big outdoor space. There are water coolers scattered around so you don't have to buy a bottle of water if you're not drinking. I was super excited to try this place out. It was okay. It is exactly what you expect it to be....a White Castle taste alike. I want a huge fan of the sauce that came on the burgers, but it had a pretty good flavor. The fries were the best part... perfectly cooked. The boys from Golden Tiger over at Whistles did a pop-up called Golden Castle that makes White Castle style sliders. It went so well for them they turned it into a permanent truck that sits on the patio of the newly reopened Queen Bee. You get a half size sliders for $12 plus tax and 15% service fee (no tipping) and they are just perfect. They remind me of White Castle for sure but they use good ingredients so it's possibly even better. The staff are all super nice and gave away food during Snowpocalyse so they always have my support. Not a fan. I got excited because although I've never been to a real White Castle, I love the little frozen ones. I've been wanting to have them fresh for so long... Browsing Uber Eats today I saw this place and decided to order. Usually I order a couple of things when I get food from somewhere I've never tried before, so I got a Pastrami Dog, 6 Sliders with mustard, Mozzarella sticks, and Crinkle Fries. I absolutely try not to hold certain things against places when I order delivery - things like temperature going down because of the distance/time factor, messiness because of someone handling it in their car... I get it and I would never complain about that. I can't put into words how disappointed I am in what I just had for dinner. I don't know exactly what it was... Maybe the mustard is just too sweet for what I expected? Maybe I'm just not a fan of their onions (I don't like grilled onions much, I like fresh, crunchy onions). Maybe the bread was sweet? I don't know what happened but I didn't like the Sliders or the Dog, the fries were just... fries (fries have to be amazing for me to *want* them. Most of the time fries are just there as filler). The Mozzarella sticks weren't horrible but weren't great. They may be a victim of the delivery time so I won't say anything too bad about them but they didn't help what ended up being a pretty bad meal, to me. I hate to drag a business down because I didn't like their food but hopefully this helps people who aren't into sweet mustard or grilled onions, or whatever, to save their money. $14.00 for 6 sliders on Uber Eats, $7.00 for a hot dog with mustard and onions. $6.00 for the mozzarella sticks didn't really seem bad to me, and $5.00 for just regular crinkle cut fries was a little high.
