I have to update from my original review from 3 years ago. A LOT has changed! This restaurant has been around since I was a child. I was tickled to see that they preserved the Lums sign. We started frequenting The Peppermill after Steve's place closed. It's true: when God closes one door, He opens another! What great food and the staff is amazing. Always friendly, personable and they really know their stuff! Professional waitstaff, who know about speed, accuracy and do it all with a smile on their faces, are hard to come by. It's a great place if you don't like to cook. They serve some good food, and the service is fast and friendly. My only problem is that it's small and often crowded. It's the only game in town if you happen to be in South Glens Falls, unless you like McDonald's . But it's not a place I would drive out of the way for, or take a group to. read more

I mean what kind of a turkey dinner comes with deli meat. They should've that they didn't have real turkey. I mean most places when they advertise turkey dinners they have turkey tenders. we have always enjoyed the Peppermill. You always knew what you would get. about 6 weeks ago, we had prime rib and salmon both delicious. Unfortunately we had a family birthday celebration with 6 people there last night, it was by far the worst meal all of us have had. the same gelatinous brown gravy was on turkey, meatloaf and chicken cordon blue and the food arrived like lukewarm. My husband felt bad that his daughter had to pay for such a terrible meal all around. The three adult meals were left uneaten. We came across The Peppermill while randomly driving by - from the outside one may have second thoughts but we looked at the reviews which were awesome so decided to give it a try. Maybe about 2 dozen tables so rather small and a pretty manageable menu. I asked about one of the entrees and the waitress said - going to be honest it's good but wouldn't say it's the best. First time there and my daughter has lived out here for almost four years. I had a perfectly cooked diner style cheese burger with house made potato chips. Grandson had grilled cheese and applesauce from the kids menu, daughter and son in law had chicken fingers with fries and BLT with fries. They even gave my 9 month grand daughter a plate of steamed broccoli with sautéed veggies. The food was great. The waitress was nice. The place is dated but not horrible at all. My husband and I were in Queensbury to get our first COVID-19 vaccinations and looked high and low for a place to have lunch. Sadly, few places operational for dine-in and far between. We noticed that the Peppermill was open as we passed, so we turned around and decided to give the restaurant a try. We were not disappointed. The tables were alternately utilized so there was an immediate comfort level. Servers wore masks and were very pleasant. Our waitress, Katy, was especially friendly and attentive. My husband and I each selected a Turkey Club (no tomato on mine), mine with onion rings (homemade and very good) and his with French fries (also very good and crisp as ordered). As advertised, the Turkey was fresh roasted and delicious. I treated myself to a strawberry shake. Yum. We have been going to the Peppermill for years and have ordered takeout Thanksgiving Dinner for the last several years due to my medical problem that makes it difficult for me to dine in. We were very dissapointed with the meal . The dressing was soggy , and tasteless. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were mashed with no butter or milk tasting very wet. The turkey was in circles so we knew it wasn't fresh roasted turkey and the frozen mixed vegetable were soggy and overcooked. I can say that it wasn't worth the $60.00 including a tip that we paid. The only thing that was good was the dessert. We also had creamy potato soup which was saved for today It had one small piece of potato in it and the potato was raw, this was with both cups of soup. I don't normally complain but I thought you should know. THe service has remained wonderful and the ambiance of the restaurant is still nice. When my husband picked it up the place was packed. It's a step back in time....reminiscent of the days when a home cooked meal could be found at a family-owned restaurant that cares about quality. It's like a diner, but not. Extensive menu; something for everyone. I found the "oriental salad" funny....this menu has been around for a while. There's wood paneling and carpeting, but the place is surprisingly immaculate. Clientele is definitely older; I've noticed that every time I drove by. This was my first visit here yet I have known about the Peppermill for years... but just never made it in. So glad that I did. I brought family from out of town and they loved their food: burger and fries, maple glazed salmon (special) and filet mignon tips in gravy with mashed potatoes (also a special). I had the salmon as well...perfectly prepared without an iota of fishiness to it. Savory and sweet, very fresh (generous portion of) salmon served with a choice of potato and mixed veggies. We also shared some sweet potato fries with Melba dipping sauce to start. Fabulous fries. The salads are also fresh and crisp....dressings are great. (I had blue cheese with my salad ...creamy, chunky, cold and fresh). And the bread?!? Dude. I could make a meal out of those rolls. No room for dessert....but I hear the chocolate cream pie is awesome! Friendly, efficient service. Great, family-style American food. Family owned. They know what they're doing. Family. American. Is it just me, or does The Peppermill have an undeserved reputation as someplace you take your older relatives for dinner? I can understand that, but I can assure you, don't label the restaurant in that manner. Yes, the restaurant does have a number of older customers for dinner, but that is because they serve a lot of seafood entrees, and traditional entrees, and they have a nice selection of senior citizen early bird specials. I've seen several reviews which refer to The Peppermill as a family restaurant, and I would say that is an excellent description. If you were to compare The Peppermill to chain restaurants such as Ninety Nine, or Applebees or Fridays, you would see they don't rely on trendy burgers, frequently changing menus, or pretentious drinks (a small variety of wine is available by the bottle or glass, I don't know about beer). The dining atmosphere is cozy and fairly quiet. There are no TVs on the walls demanding your attention. And yet, the prices and quality of the food is comparable, if not always better. I got an entree I wish I would see at more restaurants, a chicken AND eggplant parmigiana. Dinner came with a large tossed salad and a side relish tray with celery, carrots, pepperoncini and radishes. Both the chicken and eggplant were crisp yet light, the pasta was delicate, and the marina sauce - I have no idea if it is homemade or not - was quite fresh-tasting with large chunks of tomato - very satisfying. Service here is fantastic. You can tell the waitresses like not only what they're doing but making your dining experience as pleasurable as possible. read more

I was dying for fish and chips recently so I stopped in on a Sunday night and was not disappointed! Their platters are a great deal when you consider all that you're getting for one price. Almost every meal comes with a sizeable salad and your choice of two sides. It's basically a three course meal! I had some excellent baked potato skins as an appetizer before grazing on the giant pile of vegetables they brought me (only the most dedicated salad fiends will finish these.) Soon after I was delivered a heaping portion of fried haddock along with fries and applesauce. Everything was well prepared and tasty! I followed all that with a delicious slice of chocolate cream pie and, needless to say, I didn't eat again for about 18 hours. Great food and excellent service! Camped for the night before in Saratoga Springs and was heading toward the Adirondacks. Stopped in Glens Falls for breakfast. The parking lot was large so it worked great for us. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very friendly and attentive. You could tell by her constant smile that she truly enjoyed being there. We both had omelets with home fries and an English muffin. The omelets were huge and filled with lots of ingredients. The home fries were crisp and well seasoned. The waitress we had was lovely, and I don't want anything I say after this sentence to reflect on her. We're locals, came in on a Friday night. My son just got home from a trip. We went out to eat to celebrate, this is rare and special for my family. All three of us ordered a special. One fish fry, one salmon, and one veal stroganoff. We all ordered a beverage, which came in a small plastic cup. Refills not included. The waitress offered us "fresh" rolls. They were cold. Whatever, we ate them. People will eat darn near anything if it's made of carbs and served with butter. Next, came salads. Mostly iceberg lettuce, exactly two grape tomatoes each, three slices of onion, and two hunks of cucumber. The edges of the lettuce were wilted and rusted in some spots. We nibbled a bit, and waited. ...and waited, and waited. I do not understand, for the life of me, why this place is as popular as it is. You can literally get a better quality meal in the cafeteria of Glens Falls Hospital right now. My son's "veal stroganoff" was atrocious looking. He immediately began pushing it around on his plate trying to make it look like he was eating. I did like what most moms do, and I tried his food. On his plate, there literally was dry egg noodles with a chunky, brown, unappealing, sludge on top. There were soggy, and slimy, mushroom bits mixed in. The scant meat within the sludge sauce was tasteless, stringy, and mushy. Imagine a very soft and soggy pulled-pork. Exactly like that. I'm sorry, I do not have outrageous standards, but this is not what a veal stroganoff special should look like. It's not what it should taste like. It was nauseating. Served with it, was steam-in-a-bag brocolli, cauliflower, and carrot mix. No joke. Those tell-tale ripple-cut carrot coins! They're charging nearly $20/plate! So, my salmon... I will say the fries I got with it were hot and cooked well. Unseasoned, but tasty. There was another side of the microwave bag veg for me. The piece of fish itself was not fresh, it was frozen, and cool to the touch. The flesh did not flake, it crumbled, and it too was mushy. There were soggy, tasteless, breadcrumbs on top, a puddle of oil underneath, and a lemon wedge. I took two bites- the first to see if it tasted better than it looked (it didn't), and the second to see if adding lemon and seasoning would make it edible (nope). I ate the fries. I was hungry. As for the fish fry...well, when I think of a fish fry, I think of a light fluffy beer batter with flaky, shiny, moist white-fish inside. What we received was NOT that. This fish was so over-fried that it looked like chicken. Dark, orange, breading. Mr. Man ate the whole thing. But he didn't like it, he was just hungry. He had to dunk each bite into the tartar sauce to soften it up. When the waitress came and asked how the food was, I felt so bad complaining to such a nice person. I couldn't even look her in the eye. My son was nearly in tears. We never complain. We love to compliment people! The food was terrible. We couldn't eat it. We did not want anything else. We'd like to know what we owe, and we'd like to leave. She didn't seem surprised, and went to speak to her manager. We waited for a while. When she came back she says, "My manager told me to tell you that everybody else raves about the food. I am so sorry." And that was that. She asked if I wanted to "try" and speak with her boss myself. I told her that I wasn't about to argue with arrogance and denial like that. Making a waitress play middle-man between dissatisfied customers and delusional managers? Shameful. We didn't argue it. Handed over the debit card and forked over $50 for a meal we didn't even eat. We work for a living. That was an indulgent purchase...and there was nothing enjoyable about it. The food was terrible. The customer service was awful as well. We will never return. This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I really suggest to anyone reading this to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Even you locals... come on, you deserve better than this. Do you know what I had for dinner tonight? Trail mix from the Stewart's across the street. My kid had an eggwich. We preferred that to the "nursing home-esque" slop the Peppermill was serving. It really was THAT bad, and we're contesting the credit card charge with our bank, and taking the complaint about management to the BBB. I can't believe these people are still in business. read more

The wait staff are nice when you arrive after you get everything they kinda run off and don't come back immediately but they are okay they're not horrible. The food was amazing. After having a bad experience at ambrosia the other day this was a nice refreshing change. My cheeseburger was done to my liking and very delicious wasn't fatty at all. Overall I really liked it. Was worth the time to stop by. I would come here again especially with family. The inside is a little old and rustic looking I personally like that. But the whole place is very nice and food comes out decent timing and everything. I definitely recommend the place and it was very good and worth it. After waiting, was asked if we had a reservation and of course we didn't because it was a last minute choice, this waitress then rolled her eyes and walked away without even telling us how long it would be. Then after coming back she had us walk to the table and then said "wait nvm over here" then walked away and left us at the front of the restaurant and walked away without giving further directions so we just left.
