The Original Pancake House is a chain restaurant that was founded in 1953 and has franchises in dozens of states. In their recipes, they use the finest butter, eggs, flour, and whipping cream. Their signature items are the Apple Pancake, which is smothered with sautéed apples and cinnamon sugar, and the Dutch Baby Pancake, which is served with lemon, butter, and powdered sugar. Both of these items can take up to 30 minutes to bake, but the other menu items take much less time to cook. Other menu items include many flavors of pancakes, waffles, French toasts, crepes, blintzes, omelettes, benedict's, and side dishes. Some of the flavors of pancakes and waffles are unique, such as Swedish lingonberry, Cherry Kijafa, Apple, and S'mores. Lunch items include wraps, burgers, other sandwiches, salads, and soups. My husband and I ate breakfast here on a Saturday morning. Upon entering the restaurant, a seating hostess coldly stared at us for several seconds without smiling or saying hello. Finally, she asked us if we wanted a table for two people, and she told us to stand several feet away. Within seconds, another employee greeted us and walked us to a clean and comfortable table. Soon, our friendly waitress handed menus to us and gave us time to think about what we wanted to order. After we ordered, we waited a reasonable number of minutes for the food to be brought out. Here are my reviews for the foods and beverage: Apple Waffle - 4 stars - This waffle was a large size, and it was cooked to be nicely crispy. On top were many slices of fresh granny smith apples. On the side were butter and apple syrup, which tasted like cinnamon. Nutella, Strawberry, and Banana Crepe - 4 stars - The menu said that this dish came with two crepes, but the waitress asked me if I wanted only one. I hope that I was charged for only one. My crepe did not contain much filling at all unfortunately, but it still tasted good with the Nutella and the fresh chunks of strawberries and bananas on top. Strawberry French Toast - 4 stars - My husband ate this entree. The French toast was cooked nicely. It was covered with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. On the side was strawberry syrup, which tasted very sweet and delicious. Bacon - 5 stars - The four slices of bacon were very thick and crispy and had a perfectly satisfying flavor. Orange Juice - 4.5 stars - The menu and the waitress warned me that this orange juice would contain lots of pulp. I actually thought that the amount of pulp was OK. I enjoyed the refreshing taste. At the end of our meal, my husband and I had full and happy stomachs. The waitress told us to pay for our bill on the way out near the front entrance. The cashier rang up our purchase for $49 plus a tip, which we thought was a bit pricey for breakfast foods. The cashier thanked us and told us to have a nice day.

Omelettes are huge

The Original Pancake House has some of the best chocolate chip pancakes around. Both their pancakes and omelettes are absolutely huge and always cooked to perfection. My favorite omelette is the sun dried tomato and feta omelette. The chocolate chip pancakes with extra whipped cream is like dessert for breakfast. The whipped cream is incredible! The potato pancakes are crispy and delicious, served with your choice of applesauce or sour cream. Despite there being a staffing shortage, both seating and service are very fast. This staff does not stop moving. Coffee refills are offered regularly. You're checked on very frequently. Everyone is very nice and working very hard to make your experience a positive one.

Genuinely the best breakfast food in Pittsburgh. I think if I had the pinnacle of Metabolisms, money to spend, and an insatiable appetite, I would eat here every breakfast. Orange Juice - 9/10, only complaint is I wish it came even bigger than 16oz Egg omlet- 10/10 Turkey Links -7/10, I don't really know if these can ever be amazing in any restaurant Hash browns- 9/10, could be cooked a bit longer Pecan Pancakes -11/10, give me MORE!! Also learned their syrup is homemade, and you can 100% tell Highly recommend, go go go go!!! Food-5/5 Service -5/5 Time to get food-14min!

Not usually a huge breakfast person. Went with the pecan waffle which was delightful. The side of potato pancakes were a bit on the eggy side to where it had the texture of an omelette. Server was great. Prices reasonable. A few things I'd like to try next time on the menu (apple short stack, etc).

We stopped by for breakfast after playing a soccer game at North Allegheny Intermediate High School. The place is pretty small but cozy. The service was fine. Everyone was pretty friendly. The food was good, but a little pricey for breakfast. In looking at other orders coming out, I should have got an omelet. I did get the waffle breakfast sandwich with home fries. My son got chocolate chip pancakes, which he liked.

pancakes, eggs, bacon and potatoes

This is the gold standard for breakfast places in my opinion. We've been to many breakfast places around the US and it's by far our favorite. Every place we go to gets compared to this one, so you know its good. The prices have increased here over the years and the portions have decreased over the years, but it's good enough to deal with it. The other main complaint I have about is that there's really no way to get a couple of breakfast meats together. You can get bacon, you can get ham or you can get sausage. They have no Denny's style grand slam, so if you want more than one meat like I do, you either have to order ala carte or buy two meals. We really like the decor as it feels like a place you would go when on vacation. They have thicker bacon that's very good. They only give you a half of a piece of kielbasa, but it's very juicy and good. I love the waffles. They make great eggs and have great baked omelettes. They have thicker sourdough toast as well. The staff is also very nice. Even though we only come in once every 2 months or so due to being far away, the host remembers us. They even helped us out one time when we were in a hurry and had to go. I can't recommend the place enough.

Perfectly serviceable breakfast fare with decent service. While the menu is large (both in actual size and the number of items), it is fairly typical. This isn't really a criticism, it's what a lot of folks want in a breakfast place. A big plus for me was the availability of gluten-free pancakes, which the waitress assured me are cooked separately from other foods to prevent cross-contact. They were a nice departure from my usual breakfast choices.

Really good food! We came in with a party of eight at the tail end of the Sunday breakfast/brunch rush. There were only four waitresses serving, and yet we had really good service and all of our food was correct and delicious. Our drinks were kept full and we had all the butter and syrup we needed. It's also nice that the egg and meat meals can sub in almost any of the specialty pancakes for about $2.25-2.50 instead of normal buttermilk (I think only the pigs in a blanket and apple pancakes are not included). Very happy to find this place and will be back again soon!

Trivia and live music are sometimes available for entertainment. In the past few years, my husband and I have eaten at Wheelfish a few times. For our meals, the hostess and waitress promptly and politely served us. Here are my reviews for the foods: Pretzel bites - 4.5 stars - This appetizer was a large size. We really liked the flavor of the pretzels and the honey-mustard dip. We thought that the cheese dip was OK. Pulled-pork nachos - 5 stars - This appetizer of nachos was huge! Many tortilla chips were topped with gooey cheese, pulled pork, jalapeños, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Fried deviled eggs - 4 stars - The egg white was breaded and fried. It contained a yolk filling and was topped with a spicy jalapeño. We prefer traditional deviled eggs, but these ones tasted good. Mix-and-match soft tacos - 4.5 stars - The pulled-pork taco contained pulled pork and vegetable toppings that were very flavorful. For the brisket taco, I enjoyed the flavor of the brisket and toppings, but the juices made the tortilla soggy and caused it to fall apart. Shrimp tacos - 4.5 stars - These were on sale on a Thursday. The shrimp were breaded, and the toppings of napa slaw, mango salsa, and chipotle aioli tasted very good. Meat entrees - 4.5 stars - My husband liked the smoked chicken the most (5 stars), and he described it as being "delicious." We also ate ribs (4.5 stars), kielbasa (4 stars), brisket (5 stars), salmon (4 stars, needs more seasoning), and pulled pork (4.5 stars). Macaroni and cheese - 5 stars - My husband said that this macaroni was the cheesiest thing that he has ever eaten. He described it as "delicious." I ate some of the macaroni, and I agree that it was extremely cheesy. French fries - 5 stars - These fries were perfectly crispy and salty. Grilled vegetables - 4.5 stars - I wanted to make my meals more nutritious, so I chose a side of grilled vegetables, which are seasonal and included peppers, corn, squash, and zucchini. This mix of veggies had a very good flavor. Side salad - 4 stars - This salad contained a lettuce mix, some tomatoes, some pickled onions, and my choice of dressing. It was fresh but was slightly plain. Pork 'n beans - 3 stars - My husband ordered this side. He ate only a small amount of the beans and sauce, and he thought that they tasted just OK. For drinks, we had iced tea, diet Pepsi, and water. The waitresses brought refills.

He has been there for 5 years and it shows :) This is a great place to always make reservations during peak seasons. Being that we were there on New Years it was a madhouse with crowds of people waiting to be seated. Thankfully we were escorted to our booth immediately. Make that reservation! Upon sitting down I was shocked to see all of the silverware sitting right on the table and not wrapped in a napkin or sitting on top of one. That's a miss for me, I don't care if the table was just wiped clean! Every single utensil had water spots, making them look dirty.. some quick polishing would fix that! I ordered a Bourbon & Honey without looking at the menu, and was heartbroken to find out that has been removed!! That was one of the best drinks ever, and I don't drink! I opted for a Georgia Peach instead, and it was delicious as usual. I believe this was my 5th visit to a Cheesecake Factory, so I already had some things in mind! Cheeseburger Springrolls are a must, they are bomb every single time. Not sure why they started serving them with queso in addition to the Thousand Island-esque one? I wish there was a stronger truffle flavor though (personal preference). Chicken was hot, crispy, and fresh, mashed potatoes were garlicky and creamy despite the skins being included, & the asparagus was charred beautifully with great flavor!
