Made reservations for 7 of us at 6 p.m on Aug 8th for my daughters 51st birthday. I requested an experienced server. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. I chose The Olive because none of us had ever been there before and I wanted it that way so we all shared the same experience without any expectations of previous visits. I looked at several options and decided on The Olive solely upon Yelp reviews. I take this app very seriously, and have been with Yelp for many years. We were seated right away and forgive me I didnt catch my servers name because there was enough noise all around that made it a little harder for us to hear but it really wasn't intrusive or a major problem. We all could hear each other and thats all that mattered. Our server took our drink order and my oldest daughter ordered a peach sangria that served atcleast 4 people, it came in a bag with a little valve, but there was no fruit, just peach flavored semi sweet wine. It was,tasty but not traditional,would've been great if it had some peaches and a couple berries, but I made a mental note to not order next time. We ordered 2 orders of the bang bang shrimp, 1 order of fried zuicchini and an order of 5 mini crabcakes served with a butter dipping sauce, and it all was absolutely delicious! The shrimp was moderately spicy with a killer sticky sauce coating it, sweet and piping hot, the zuicchini super hot and crunchy served with the most delicious marinara sauce, the crabcakes were lump crabmeat and we were off to a delicious start!!! Our server then took our orders, and myself and my niece ordered the seafood supreme, LUMP CRAB, scallops and shrimp in an Alfredo sauce over linguine done totally on point and saucy, a very delicious Alfredo made right!! My oldest daughter had broiled sea scallops, perfectly cooked with a baked potato and house vegetable medley, my son in law had clams in white clam sauce, but here is where they could've done better as,far as quantity of clams, they only gave him 6 little necks in shells, 8 would've been better however it was completely delicious!!! My daughter ordered the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes but the potatoes weren't that great however, that steak was char broiled to perfection, 16 oz and one that will become memorable because of its intense deliciousness and char flavor, my nieces boyfriend had pasta in marinara that was beyond delicious! Their pasta fajiola soup was to die for, we all had house salads that came with the meal, and overall this restaurant really delivered!! Hot rolls and butter and dipping oil came with the table, and The Olive delivered in every aspect and exceeded our expectations!! Service, decor, cleanliness and overall experience made all of us agree we would highly recommend this restaurant, it was very busy, hard working efficient servers, friendly managers,and staff, we look forward to our next visit! Our server rushed the entire meal -- salad came out before the appetizer, and before we could finish the calamari, our entrées were already on the table. The calamari and marinara were actually very good, but my entrée missed the mark. I ordered the filet pieces with fettuccini, and while the cream sauce was flavorful, the filet was extremely tough and not enjoyable. So very disappointed in their New Year's Eve!! It was absolute bedlam, with people waiting well over an hour for their reserved tables. I get it that this is a small restaurant and perhaps have inexperienced staff and kitchen. Still, New Year's Eve is a big deal and they shouldn't take reservations in the case they can't honor them in a decentamount of time. I consider that 20 minutes max. So disappointed...thankfully the Barnsboro Inn could seat us and we had a delicious meal. Olive. You need to figure it out! You would have ruined our NYE with your chaos. read more

Intimate, cozy, well patronaged restaurant with adequate parking. Multiple writings on the wall in case you don't know to live love laugh. Seated immediately for our party of four (reservations encouraged). Left for a bit with our menu perusal. Restaurant was crowded and cacophonous. Calamari and garlic bread (definitely not house made bread) for starters which were good. French onion soup with very little cheese served unnaturally hot still boiling in container. Everything served was UNDER seasoned. Pasta fra diavolo I have never salted so much in my life and unbelievably hot (think microwave hot). Everyone was underwhelmed with their choice of entrees. The desserts were adequate had raspberry cheesecake and tiramisu cake. Limited competition locally so probably will return. read more

I love coming here when I visit my family! It's one of my favorite local Italian restaurants in Sewell I love the customer service, the people that work there are so professional and kind, and the environment is so welcoming! It always feels like a huge Italian family dinner! And of course, the food. Needless to say, I live in San Diego and haven't found a good "Italian American" restaurant, the ones I'm used to while growing up. So it just brings me back to childhood. Their chicken Marsala is out of this world. I am not even exaggerating when I say it's the best I've had in a while. You can tell everything is homemade. Went to dinner on Sunday with three friends. First time at that restaurant for all of us. Three of us got a special of chicken parm, lasagna and manicotti. It came with the three choices piled in one lump. The lasagna was the strangest I have ever seen. There was a pile of plain crumbled meat with two very small lasagna pasta pieces on top of the meat with a small amount of cheese mixture spread between the two pasta pieces. The place has a neat old world meets new style. Lots of quotes and great calm colors. The desserts at the door gave a diner feel but were amazing to look at. I guess you can pick them up and grab a gelato to go. The lunch menu was vast. Everything was around 15$ which isn't bad. They charge for everything extra. My mom wanted a roll for her salad and it was 1$ more. But I guess in this day and age, that's common. I tried a panini, good bread. The fries were very crispy. Had honey gelato for the first time. Good experience overall. I understand why my parents raved about it. My only negative was the waitress. She seemed less than happy, and was kind of overly short. The food was very good. I enjoyed my chicken parm with a small salad. The problem was that I went with a group so we had to order off a small menu . The tip was already included and our waiter took full advantage of that by disappearing for long intervals . When my friend and I I ordered the half bottle of wine he put it on the group check. However my first dinner experience revealed very average food. Plus the prices for the quality and portions was unimpressive. My dinner of chicken Marsala was exceptionally salty and the pasta is likely dried and not fresh as it was somewhat hard and stick together. Came to the olive on a recommendation. Very disappointed. To start off the restrooms were ice cold. My ravioli was frozen my sauce on the ravioli was Jarred and very acidic burned terribly.Salad dressing was out of a jar also. The olive oil dipping sauce smelled and tasted stale like it was very old. The Ravioli were definitely frozen. If you're going to use frozen raviolis use a good brand like p & s. I understand times are tough and people have to cut corners but come on quality I can't with this place. The decor inside was lovely but I won't go back and the fact that people give it high reviews I don't understand it. We've been here a handful of times. They sell wine but you can also BYO. The restaurant is spacious and the staff is friendly. Highly recommend the Buffalo calamari or the Bang Bang shrimp as a starter. As for dinner, you can't go wrong with the chicken dishes particularly the chicken French onion. I was easily able to get two meals out of it. Didn't order dessert but it looked awesome and I hear the gelato is great. Get here early. It got super busy around 6pm. I'm going against the grain of all the rave reviews from here, OpenTable, and Google, but my meal today was just...not good. I can't justify a higher rating while I'm still sitting here regurgitating it. Maybe they were having an off day, but I'm in so much pain right now that I'm unlikely to consider a return any time in the near future. The Olive is located in the same restaurant space as Nina's and Val's Seafood before it. Like Val's, they didn't renovate the interior, so it was like stepping back in time (gosh I still miss Nina's). The vineyard themed decor works since it's an Italian restaurant. It is still a BYOB. They serve Pepsi products. When we walked in, I informed them I had a reservation, but no one else was there midday so they seated us without notating my name to check in via OpenTable. I hadn't eaten yet all day so I was ravenous. I ordered the fried mozzarella, a small Caesar salad, and a cheesesteak sandwich - added mayo to that. The salad came out first in a bowl too small for it. The lettuce didn't include any romaine hearts - it was just the outer, less desirable part. The dressing was average. The mozzarella sticks were clearly of the frozen variety and not special at all. But the cheesesteak? Yikes. As I picked it up, I noticed it was dripping grease. I was so hungry I ate half of it, but looking back I really should've just sent it back when I noticed how soggy the roll was to start. Plus I figured they'd blame it on the mayo -- which was not the culprit. The beef just was not drained. There was a pool of grease on the plate. The fries were pretty good, however, and my mom enjoyed her meal -- the chicken Caesar wrap (though she was surprised by the lack of cheese in it). When the server asked about boxes, I said just one and pointed at my mom's plate. She still brought two, so I picked up the latter half of my steak and said it was way too soggy to box up. She didn't reply; just took the second box back. I then asked about my OpenTable points, since I hadn't (and still haven't) received a confirm. She replied she didn't know anything about OpenTable, but she was sure it checked me in. Oof. We were the only guests there, and I just expected better. I'm hoping the restaurant can use this review as constructive criticism, as I've been suffering for the past several hours. Tums and peppermint tea did not help. Oh dear. The Olive. Let me first say that "Italian-inspired" is stretching it, like someone on minimum wage saying they're "rich-inspired." The only thing that I'd consider Italian is the cliché God Father references and lyrics to "That's Amore" on the wall. I ordered what I assumed would be a safe dish, the lasagna, as this is an "Italian-inspired" restaurant. I was surprised to find what amounted to an entire LAYER of large chunks of hamburger helper plopped on my plate with a few noodles and scant sauce to hide the shame of it all. It was recognizable as lasagna only by the fact that it was cut into a rectangle. The moment this image gets out is the moment we experience the true wrath of mama Italia. (Seriously. Think of what you imagine as lasagna and tell me you don't have to struggle to make my picture match with the image in your head.) What's worse? Saying "ciao" to your wallets as they overcharge you for this experience. Don't be a baciagaloop and avoid The Olive. Head over to the other Olive--at least there, you're family. read more

Wow! My first time here was great! As another reviewer says, it's a diamond in the rough. The food is great here. For my appetizer, I ordered Fried Mozzarella. It was amazing! The cheese was totally melted, and when bitten into, created strings. For my Meal, I got a Crab Cake Sandwich. It was one of the better Crab Cake Sandwiches I have had in a while! The other people at my table ordered dessert which looked quite scrumptious. The only reason I give a four-star review is that my food was a bit pricy but well worth it!
