Three of us had breakfast at the Pullman site this morning. The service was very slow and they were not busy. It was the worst food we have had for a meal. My husband had an omlet that looked like it had only one egg. I had the eggs Benedict, the food was cold and the ham was way over cooked and tough. The biscuits and gravy was powdery and cold. The prices are way too high for such small amounts of food, or any normal amount of food. Our bill was over 100 dollars. read more

The interior has grandma vibes in the way that it feels so homey and cozy. -Stuffed akelbeisers- MUST GET. The plain one is my favorite but all 3 flavors are incredible. -The strawberry pancakes are fluffy. -Ask for gravy over your hash browns. Game. Changer. The savoriness of the the gravy + the crispiness of the hash browns is a perfect combo. -Their homemade jam is sweet and compliments anything you order. -The only thing I didn't like was the cheese on my omelette and on my hash browns. Okay, so I love this place- maybe even too much. My boyfriend and I come here a LOT. Like, the host is starting to recognize us because we're here so many weekends. Yes, it gets busy here, but for good reason. Once you're seated, you are treated to the most amazing coffee (no matter which kind you get! drip, french press, or austrian- it's all good!) and the tastiest, most comforting breakfast food. On our first visit, the waitress treated us to a free sample of the Aebelskivers! The service here is almost always very friendly, but they are definitely a little rushed. This never takes away from the experience, though! I've never been disappointed or dissatisfied with anything I or my boyfriend has ordered here!! (I have a habit of stealing a good bit of whatever he orders, wherever we go..) I have a ton of pictures from here because we have ordered a LOT of different things on our many visits here, and they were all good! Some things can get pricey, like the drinks and some of the sides. But you can either A. go all out and get a ton of stuff and pay a good bit (usually good to do when parents are visiting), B. order smart, not overdo it, and have a good filling brunch for two for $25-$30, or C. be grumpy. Seriously, if you're in Pullman and it's before 2pm, go to the Old European. You are almost definitely going to have to wait for a table, but that's nothing to go crazy over. I would say probably don't go with huge groups, it'll just make the wait longer. But for a nice breakfast or brunch with family or a friend, this is THE place to go! Around $30 for the whole meal, was quite an experience - never had aebleskivers or goulash before! Danish Aebleskivers - little spherical balls with a savory inside served with an apple sauce like dip. First time trying this, would definitely order again! Hungarian Goulash - Reminiscent of a hash, plenty of meat, veggies, eggs and cheese to be a filling meat! A horrendous experience at every level. Went on a Friday late morning before a Cougar game. Ordered their "signature" Hungarian Goulash and Chicken Fried Steak. The "Goulash" was cold and was a bad skillet with no Goulash attributes but the Chicken Fried Steak was the centerpiece of the awful experience. It was brought out resembling a gray soggy flacid mess and the topper was they were "out" of gravy and our curt, rude wait staff brought out Hollandaise sauce on the side without any options. When the soggy chicken fried steak was not touched a gravy side was brought out again unannounced and were told a "special" batch had been made which looked microwaved. After waiting 15 minutes with untouched food the apathetic waitstaff came by and when I asked for our check without a charge for the Chicken Fried Steak the waitstaff brazenly said "why would we do that" Bad food, service and experience. This was a frustrating experience. The food is very expensive, they were not properly staffed, and the environment just wasn't that friendly. I think the worst part tho was that they didn't include prices for their orange juice on the menu. My wife and I didn't realize it was fresh squeezed and it cost $8 for a TINY glass. It ruined the whole experience and is a very shady practice. I'm actually not sure it's lawful to omit prices on the menu for any food item. The best way to describe this place is as a good attempt but doesn't quite make it. The place was freezing, a little dirty, and dated. The service was super friendly. The food was ok. The portions were modest and not enough for the amount you will pay per plate. The orange juice was outrageously priced at $8 for a modest glass. I love old school joints and hit them up as often as I find them, but if you didn't take time to read the lengthy Old Euro menu explaining their history and such, you just might think you were at another outdated Perkins. Food is fantastic!! The abelskievers are great both the regular and the stuffed! The homemade jam, the applesauce and the syrup are fantastic!! When we are in Pullman we always come here at least once and we are not disappointed. The servers are usually good but many times very distracted. They are overworked and have too many tables?? In the middle of our care our server went to mop an over flowed toilet and we had to finally stand up at go to the register. The hostess was there too!! Two days later we were in a big hurry and decided to order take out online. We were told15 min and after 30 we finally got our order. 3/12 abelskievers were raw uncooked in the middle! We were far away and I called to let them know. 8 minutes on hold then their phone stopped working. Had to call back. So poorly managed - it's too bad!! read more

The only reason this restaurant has a crowd is because it's 1 of 2 breakfast places in town. If there were more, this place would be dead, the food sucks. The service sucks, I wouldn't recommend it. Great food, awesome service provided by Gail! She was so welcoming and gave us outstanding service. She was not only knowledgeable about the menu but she had given us sample of the aebelskivers which we never heard of nor try any type of flavors. It was our first time here in Pullman coming from Tacoma to see the WSU campus and we decided to come try this place out. Everything was just wonderful. We came at a busy time with two large parties back to back so it was a little noisy but Gail took care of us like a champ! My wife says she wished the crepes toppings could've been fresh strawberries but overall was great! They had a bottle of the peri peri hot sauce and that was a nice kick to the eggs! I just had to get a bottle since they sale it for $12. Parking is available all over, there are some on street but larger lot in the back. Just note that if you pay credit card there is a 2.7% charge/service fee. Not only did Gail took great care of us she also welcomed us back with a $5 gift card for our next visit! "This place looks very old and very European" - my boyfriend when we first walked in. The Old European is definitely a place to take your out-of-town friends when they visit! It's a bit dated but in a quaint way that reminds you of how much history it has in Pullman and how iconic it is. It's it dirty at all and everything is well-kept. Parking can be a pain and you can expect there to be a wait during peak hours, especially on game days, Mom's/Dad's weekend, etc. The staff have been hit or miss but most of them are so incredibly personable and friendly. Waiting during breakfast time, especially at a busy restaurant, is never easy but the wait staff make you feel like family/a valued customer here rather than an inconvenience. The menu is wordy but I like that, like the people, its personable and tells a story. There is also a smaller booklet of fables on each table to read while you wait. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and you can watch the machine do its work right from your seat! It won't be ice cold but it will be fresh, nonetheless. The speciality coffees are also good. My friends love the one with caramel. If you let them know it's one of your guests' first time, they'll give you a complementary plate of Abelskievers(sp?) and a $5 gift card. A great way to promote business, especially with an unfamiliar cuisine. My friends from Hawai'i were so impressed by the service that they took a photo with our waitress to remember her. When I was in college, over a decade ago, I used to frequent this restaurant weekly. The food is absolutely wonderful. My dad and I were passing through and decided to see if the food was as good as the last time we were here and it was! It tasted just as delicious. We mentioned how many years it had been since we were at the Old European and the waitress welcomed us back, which I thought was very thoughtful. We ordered some hash, abelskivers (spelling, sorry!), Freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee, and a cinnamon roll to go. The has was excellent. I would have liked it a bit more cooked so everything could have melted together a bit more. The abelskivers (spelling again!) were so good with maple syrup. The cinnamon roll was soooo good.
