    Everyone having fun.

Okay, I was a little tipsy when I arrived a the Northside Tavern. I was also meeting friends from out of town after flying into Atlanta for a wedding of a mutual friend. All of that might have tempered my reaction, but I had a blast at the Northside Tavern. The drinks tasted strong, the band was cooking, and the crowd was dancing. Cherishing its divey, beat up effect, the Northside Tavern is an Atlanta icon. Better yet, I was able to walk to my Airbnb.

I'm a very clumsy girl and I rolled my ankle. Luckily the bartender, Rob, provided me with a trash bag of ice to help reduce the swelling. Unmatched service. Thanks Rob!! The drinks and music aren't bad either.

Another Great Dive I wish I remembered the name of nice old gentleman behind the bar. He is in the picture I posted. This is old dove bar that only serves drinks. The bartender was so friendly to us and had a shot with us. Prices are very fair and they always have live music. If you like dive bars, this is definitely one for you. Thanks

Dive bar of dive bars, they had a bouncer but I guess they're either not checking IDs because it's still daylight or because I don't look under 21. We'll go with the former. We went through a few dollars on the arcade machine, losing to Dig Dug and Burger Maker while sipping at the worst Red Stripe I have ever consumed. I'm not one to waste beer, but half of this was left behind. They're slinging beers and playing pool here. And the strangest thing, moving two of the gals were moving the vending machine from one side of the place to the other. What? [Review 19551 overall - 605 in Georgia - 521 of 2023.]

I was refused water, not a drink . I've never experienced rude behavior like such. He said it was last call. I responded I'm not asking for a drink just water. He said no then gave a white female an entire pitcher of water after she told him that was weird. She poured me a glass, and he threw it away like I was trash. I called today to try to get some kind of apology or even common ground. I think it was the same man. He told me to post it....he didn't care.... So here we are! Boycott racist bartenders! Oh and I have the woman's number who was equally disgusted and she will verify what I said!

Service is always top tier though! We ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger and the Zombie Burger, and both delivered exactly what you'd want from a place like this. The Mushroom Swiss was rich, juicy, and loaded with flavor, with perfectly melted cheese and mushrooms that actually added depth instead of getting lost. The Zombie Burger was messy, bold, and indulgent--definitely not a "play it safe" kind of burger, but that's what made it great. This isn't a quiet, refined dining spot--and it's not trying to be. It's fun, casual, and perfect for when you want a great burger with personality. If you're looking for solid food, big flavors, and a place that doesn't take itself too seriously, The Vortex absolutely hits the mark.

We arrived there exactly at 5 PM, when it opens, but there was already a pretty extensive line. A little outside the entrance, they check your ID, which I had no idea was a thing. So make sure you have your IDs with you and are 21+. There's a bar area for drinks and a separate counter where you will order and pay for your food. (They make it pretty explicit that you can't get wings to-go.) Find a seat, and once your food is ready, they'll announce your name, and you pick up your food from the window. FOOD: We got wings in the flavors of lemon pepper (dry rub), sun-dried tomato (dry rub), buffalo lemon pepper (wet), and jerk buffalo (wet). I will say that I definitely preferred the wet wings to the dry wings. I found the dry wings to be a little too salty. In my opinion, the wings and the cook on them were just okay. I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe the relatively cheap beer and the vibes help draw in all the appeal. TLDR// I don't think I had the greatest wings of all time here, but the vibes were really casual and pleasant. I'm glad I was able to try a place so beloved by locals.

This cocktail lounge is a cool spot! We had a private party for 20 and reserved the "Tight Squeeze"…read moresection which was behind a very nondescript door (like a speakeasy??) and right next to the bar, with a big center table where most of stood around, and then comfy sofas and chairs on the periphery. Since the other side of the bar was pretty much almost outside with a deck, they had heated lamps throughout. To order food or drinks, we went to the bartender - there is no server walking around to take orders. All of us kept an open tab - and they do automatically charge 20% tip. Our bartender was really good and super nice! And they have Happy Hours specials 4:30-7pm - even Sat/Sun ... so I took advantage of that! MELON BALL - $9 I'd never had a melon ball before and it was really yummy :) DOS CONFIT DUCK TACOS - $10 Two corn tortilla tacos w/ duck confit (birria style), NY sharp cheddar (actually I don't remember having cheese in mine), and mango chutney ... good option if you're looking for a lite bite. I enjoyed mine! LEMON PEPPER FRITES - $6 House-cut fries w/ lemon pepper dusting. The tacos weren't enough, lol - plus the fries were a good portion for sharing. I wish they sprinkled more lemon pepper but it was fine. Next time I'd like to try their Big Mac sliders - those looked really good! The shrimp po' boys looked good too! Looking at the regular menu, the food prices are very reasonable. Overall great spot for groups! They are located at Colony Square - although I knew the restaurant location, I did get disoriented after coming from the parking garage and trying to figure out where was 14th Street but a lovely policeman walked me there. Remember to bring your parking ticket and then ask the hostess to validate your ticket when you leave the restaurant - supposedly it's free up to 2 hours but I stayed there for over 6 hours and didn't have to pay for parking, yay!

He was obviously very annoyed to have to serve us and made rude comments to a few people in our group. For the food - the served actually told us 'you didn't order that' when we reminded him or 2 items that were forgot. They came out about 15 mins later. Now in addition to jazz they offer blues, Latin music, bluegrass and other genres on a rotating schedule. The museum revamped it when visitors asked for more variety. The event is free for members of the High and is also free to all visitors with half-price admission to the museum. My friend is a member and she asked me to be her plus one for Friday Night Music Remix at the High. I first attended the event a couple years ago with friends from out of town and was happy to return. By the time we got there, the jazz band was playing and all of the tables were occupied. There was only seating for about 100 and there were more people standing than sitting. After a few minutes we went upstairs to walk through the exhibits to a soundtrack of jazz. I really like the concept--enjoying music, sipping drinks and exploring the art exhibits. It's a very diverse crowd too in terms of race and age...20-somethings to 60-somethings...tourists...groups of friends...and people on dates. Some are there for the jazz and art; others seem more into the cocktails. The dress code is all over the spectrum from sophisticated to casual. Men wear things like polo shirts and khakis or button downs and jeans. Ladies wore everything from jeans, cardigans & heels to maxi dresses & sandals. My one criticism is about the lighting. I wish they would add mood lighting or at least dim the existing lights, something to make the large space feel more intimate. I know it's not a nightclub but I associate live music with low lighting, not high watt bulbs. Other than that it was a nice event and I plan to return in the next month or two.
