Coming here you'll have to park somewhere, they have a small parking lot but at the same time if you don't find that parking available, are you going to go ahead and get it? How you live. You'll go through security and come in and it's pretty much a dive bar with really good vibes. They have R&B, jazz, blues, lot of different myriads of music types. So it may not look like it, but it's actually a really good spot. I would say you could go and use this to kick it and take a date or a double date situation. There. You could get some drinks, listen to some music, play some pool, it's all good. Now they don't have food like that, but there's a food truck outside and the food truck is actually pretty decent. I'm not going to lie, those wings were actually pretty good. But don't expect this spot to have food on the inside. I've been going in and out here for years so I don't have anything bad to say necessarily. I'm not a pool player and I like to be able to speak to people when I'm hanging out at a bar, so Northside isn't for me. On one side of the bar is the stage, so a lot of room is taken up there and on the other side are pool tables. So, if you haven't secured a spot at the stage, at the bar, or have commandeered one of the few tables, you're basically S.O.L. and getting jostled around. You'd think that at this old dive you could, at least, get cheap drinks. Nope. Drinks aren't expensive, but they're not cheap, either. For all of this, you have the pleasure of paying ten bucks cover charge. No thanks. Save the cover and go to the Ormsby up the street for more room and the ability to have a conversation. read more

Came here Tuesday night after an event with friends and we had a blast! Great blues and jazz music in the a perfect dive aesthetic. They have two pool tables and the bartenders were really nice and kept the drinks coming. Parking is kinda a challenge, but I found a spot on the street and paid until 10. This place even has a patio with some tables out back which is perfect for a quieter spot to chat. Can't wait to come back for some more tunes and booze! read more

Northside Tavern is a dingy little dive bar in The Westside district of Atlanta. The scene is mostly an older crowd with live music playing every night. The band consists of the most senior of citizens living out their rock and roll dreams so kudos to them. The bar itself is falling apart and there was an active roof leak right in front of the bar area with trash cans to catch it all. The patio seating upholstery is completely stripped and in disarray. They need to put some money into renovations and a full face-lift honestly. Dirty vibes. There was only one bartender in the whole place so service was slow and he also disappeared for awhile. I just had a cran vodka and it was mostly watery. Not impressed. read more

Northside Tavern isn't my scene, but I can see why people like this place. It has a lot of character. If you look up "dive bar" in the dictionary, you should see a picture of Northside Tavern. According to Google, a dive is "a shabby or sleazy bar or similar establishment." Sleazy? I'm not so sure, but shabby? Yes. This place is a dump. The bar looks beat up and worn out. The interior is in poor condition, particularly the torn chairs with cushioning spilling out, and the walls are covered in random stickers and graffiti. It's the kind of grungy joint you'd expect to find in Little Five Points or perhaps Old Fourth Ward or East Atlanta Village, but nope, it's next door to bougie Westside Provisions District (JCT Kitchen, Marcel) and across the street from repurposed Westside Ironworks (O-Ku, Barcelona). Northside Tavern was in the neighborhood first. It's been around since 1972 and it's become a local favorite and an Atlanta institution. The bar serves cheap beer and no food except for the single-serving bags of potato chips on the wall. There are TVs, two pool tables, a juke box, a lottery ticket machine, and a broken down Golden Tee. There's a small fenced-in patio. When I visited, the patio smelled like weed. The men's restroom (single) is dimly lit and ominous, like something you'd see in a horror movie or Silent Hill. There's live music nightly with no cover charge on weeknights. The wall behind the stage has cool portrait paintings of various musicians. Northside Tavern has been a filming location for several movies and TV shows. Among them, Fast & Furious 8 (2017), Anchorman 2 (2013), and Halt and Catch Fire (2014). I was constantly berated by one of the bouncers for "leaving my drink on the table". At one point, a bouncer (the same one as previously mentioned) smashed my drink on the table quoting, "No drinks on the table!" At which point I asked to speak to a manager. I was given the name, Sam, as being the manager in charge for the night. When I approached Sam to file a formal complaint, they responded with, "what do you want me to do about it? I already asked them to leave you alone." The bouncer in question was extremely confrontational and offered to call Tommy Webb, the Owner," but I was pulled away by my party before I could comply. This individual should not work in the service industry. I am extremely disappointed by the chain of command at place at Northside Tavern. I felt threatened by the bouncer working and was not met by any meaningful corporate chain-of-command. read more

Stopped in with a friend this past Sunday night and had a decent time as it was one of the few places open around 11pm. They had a very nice blues band playing until close (midnight)..felt bad as I didn't have any cash for their tip bucket. The place itself is a dive bar that has pool tables and not too expensive drinks. Very diverse crowd here which I loved and everyone seemed to be having a good time which is always a plus. With all this good stuff there are a few bad things. They allow cigarette smoking inside so your clothes will stink once you leave. There is even an old Kools cigarette machine in there that I assume people are buying the cigs from. They allow people to bring food in there which is awesome, but don't enforce them to clean off the tables after themselves or have a server wipe them down or clear off the ripped bag of chips or empty pizza boxes. Good spot to check out for the music and if you're ok with all that I mentioned in reference to the smoking and nasty tables. read more

A dive bar and a jazz bar had a baby. Very small parking lot, I hear there's a door fee on the popular nights. Very casual melting pot. Young, old, black, white, everyone is here. The smoky haze and dim lighting definitely contribute to the relaxed vibe. Drinks are good, but the pours aren't what they used to be. Still priced well though. You can bring food in if you'd like. Soft Drink Refill Speed: Probably not the Place Northside Tavern is a top-notch blues dive bar. Yes, there is a $10 cover on weekends, but there is live music every night and the drinks are cheap. They do allow smoking, but frankly it'd be weird if they didn't. As other reviews have said, the place has a super eclectic clientele. From older dudes shooting pool in the back, to what could have been soccer moms, to college kids from Tech, to a wedding party that rolled in in full regalia after the reception, everyone was just a part of it. I had a fun time on a solo expedition during my conference in Atlanta. Of course I had to take a ride share there since I had no other mode of transportation but it seemed a bit off the beaten path. The main draw here is the live blues music that you'll get to here. I don't remember the name of the band that played but it was a young soulful guitarist leading his band with a bunch of tasty covers and original songs. The layout and decor...well you don't exactly come here for that but you can hear the band well throughout the spot. The locals and patrons were all pretty cool (and diverse) and they made me feel welcome especially since I was riding solo that night. I come here after work and on Tuesday I tried to play a song and realized it was no longer available. I soon realized 90% of the hip-hop and rap has been removed from the jukebox. This is disgusting and sends a message that this bar is not a place that respects or values black people and their culture. I will no longer be coming to this bar. read more

I just went the other day and saw that all rap/hip-hop, entire genre of music had been blocked off the Juke box. No handicapped access at all. In this day and age it is dumbfounding that a place like this is still in the business. There are no handicapped parking spots, no handicapped access to the front door, and no handicapped access to the bathrooms. Speaking of the bathrooms, the floors are soaked with urine!! The men's bathroom has a broken door to a "tiny broom closet" that hasn't been cleaned for decades. It is absolutely disgusting and unsanitary. Anyone that is brave enough to enter takes their own health in their hands. My wife say's there are no doors on the stalls in the woman's bathroom and is as disgusting as well. The crowd is over served with staggering drunks everywhere. Bar arguments at the pool tables are a regular happening. I witnessed a hit and run in the parking lot myself. The only reason I can think of that this place is still open is that the owners are paying off the Atlanta politicians. There are so many code violations at the place they should be shut down. I will be reporting them to the Health department as well as the Americans with Disabilities. read more

Lots of graffiti, sketch parking, cracked floor, layers of dirt, weird things hanging from the ceiling and cheap drinks are just a few of its finest features. Nice people, loud music, diversity. Loved hanging out here even if I did look out of place in my work attire/heels. Strong drinks and a very easygoing atmosphere.kind bartenders, plenty of seating.
