This place has character, pizazz, and absolutely amazing customer service. I would recommend dining in rather than take out. The atmosphere is worth it and the patio out back is super fun. As far as Southwestern food is considered, this place is top notch. The Sopapillas are on point! That is a very hard dish to get right. It was... utterly delightful. The Green Chile Stew is amazing! I would wade through piles of glass shards to get another taste. I GENUINELY wish I could review their food and their full service, but every time I've been here, I literally can't even be served due to their awful customer service. Today we went in (group of 4) and was told to "sit wherever". We sat at a booth inside. We waited over 10 minutes and still hadn't received a menu. I then asked the waiter if we could get one, and she responded that she's the only one "on the floor" as she chatted with another coworker. We also were the "only ones on the floor" because the restaurant was EMPTY. I get being low staffed. I completely understand COVID restricting service options. Went there for brunch with friends. The menu looked great online and we were very excited. I ordered the breakfast burrito with a spicy hot link in it. When ordering a breakfast burrito, there's a certain expectation in place, and this missed on all levels. First, the burrito was mostly filled with plain (yes plain) white rice and potatoes. Filler upon filler. Next, it was topped with the most bland "sausage gravy" I've ever had. I remember back in the late 80s when McDonalds served Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast. Their gravy was 10 times better than The New Mexicans'. There was supposedly cheese in it, but I didn't find any. Next, when you get a hot link, you'd figure it would be seared on a grill or something. From the feel/taste of it, they simply cut this hot link up and put it in/on the burrito, because the casing was very difficult to chew through...It definitely didn't have a snap to it. Where was the spice? Where were the chilis? Where was the hearty rich sauce on top? Where was the bubbling melted cheese? Sadly, none of those things existed. I literally took the top off of the pepper shaker to add a layer of pepper, and then another layer of Tapatio, but there was no rescuing the blandness of the meal. One friend ordered French toast. Now how can you mess up French toast? He said it had next to no flavor. No cinnamon, no nutmeg, and even the bread itself was pretty flavorless. Another friend ordered the breakfast burrito, and he too was perplexed by the plain white rice that packed it. The 4th of our party ordered chicken fried steak, and here are her $0.02: "You could mention that my breakfast spuds with my tiny chicken fried steak tasted like slimy starch with zero seasoning. And my tiny chicken friend steak was an 1/8" of meat with 1/4" of breading, hiding under a blanket of equally boring gravy, nestled next to a 2" thick bland biscuit that was larger than the steak itself.". So, if you're the sort of person who thinks that black pepper is "too spicy", The New Mexicans is the place for you. For everyone else, just stay away. Taco Bell now serves breakfast for much less $$$. On a positive note, the chairs are very heavy, and the staff was very nice, which raises my review from 0 stars to 1 star. read more

Our first time and WOW! It's a Friday night in Covid and we were told a 15min wait. It was less. We knew this was a good place. The whole staff was laughing and Whooping it up. Even with masks on you could see the smiles. We were sat and ordered. Our son (8yrs old) wanted to know why there was no Mariner paraphernalia. Lots of other sports teams though decorating the walls. My sister wanted to celebrate Cinco de Mayo so she stopped and got food here. I was looking forward to it and was so excited. However, I was surprised at how bland the tacos were. The carne asada was good as it was drowned in some kind of sauce. I wasn't to thrilled to find the burrito sticking to the to the paper liner. Disappointed that there were no salsa chips included with our meal. They automatically charge you gratuity even though my sister picked up the food. That seems strange to me. There are other more authentic mexican food restaurants that i think would have been better. My sister has a kind heart and wanted to give this restaurant her business. Fun, friendly, family owned restaurant serving a style that's not found elsewhere in Snohomish County. The menu offers several kinds of Tex-Mex delectable items, that the cook is clearly skilled at making them delicious. We had four diners at our table and all of us really enjoyed our selections. This place is awesome. I came close to giving it a 5 star review but couldn't do it because of they salsa. Pro's- everything my family has had here is so good. Came here hungry and ready for some brunch with heat, given the reviews that we read on Yelp. Really liked the concept of a spot that had true Tex Mex / New Mexican food with hatch chiles and a variety of dishes that extended beyond a burrito and some tacos. Upon walking in, we were greeted and told to sit wherever we liked - a server swung by shortly afterward to bring us menus and water. I was excited to try the enchiladas with the 50/50 sauce (half hot New Mexican and half red sauce) so I selected the Christmas enchiladas that had those plus the green sauce with two fried eggs on top and beans on the side. While I'm not drinking much at the moment, I did try T's bloody mary which I thought had a nice amount of heat and flavor without knocking you out with an overwhelming aftertaste from the vodka. They did mention that the vodka had been housemade with chiles soaking it in but it didn't taste too spicy to me. My enchiladas came out piping hot, but I was immediately sad to see that there was a generous amount of shredded lettuce included on my place that had been heated as well (maybe bummer) and was somehow layered amongst my tortillas, sauce, and cheese. I hate the texture of warm lettuce and warm, shredded, iceberg lettuce is really the saddest of all. It overtook my plate and I found myself trying to eat around it. The sauces were not as flavorful as I was hoping and the beans were fairly bland - I needed to add hot sauce to make them palatable. The one positive was my eggs were cooked a perfect sunny side up, which can be a pet peeve of mine when ordering out. I wish that the serving size had been smaller but that the dish had tasted better :( and wouldn't be able to say that I'd plan on coming back. read more

Came here for lunch with my coworkers. It's a seat your selves restaurant. We settled on a table by the window. Perfect for the 4 of us. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was delicious. I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada with baked beans. The beans were amazing. One of my coworkers ordered the carne Asada tacos but there was a mix up and she got a burrito instead. Our server was quick to get the order right and because if the mix up, he was nice enough to get her a cinnamon roll on the house. Will def be back! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. read more

We go to this place every Saturday we can. The staff is friendly and hardworking. Everything they make is fresh and authentic, even their green chilies are from New Mexico! Poor experience at The New Mexicans. We'll go in order. Service was poor. While the server was friendly, she didn't seem too interested in taking our order and was wanting to leave before we could have appetizers and drinks added. The brisket tacos were actually pretty good (4/5 stars), but they were out of one kind of meat and randomly before the order came out the server came back to confirm our taco order incorrectly and then told us more meats were out but then realized she was just confused. The smoked chicken enchilada was bad (1/5 stars), just all around not good, mostly due to the super dry chicken and bland taste (somehow). Chips and guac as an appetizer were also poor (1/5 stars). Chips were very low quality, seemed like a few were burned, so I guess it was good they tried to make their own. The guacamole looked like week old prepackaged guacamole cream with some fresh chopped tomatoes to make it look home made. Overall, I don't recommend. I have heard that they have a good giant hamburger though, and my wife's brisket tacos were good. So if you try out those items, then I can say soft recommend going. read more

I've had many variations of this dish. I've never experienced the burger patty with bacon in the patty, in a loco moco. It was solid, and worked well with the gravy. I stopped by this spot after seeing all the great reviews while browsing on nearby locations on yelp :) First impression, I realized this truly is a New Mexican restaurant, the inside decor reflects this very well. This place has been here for a few years now, and somehow I managed to miss it completely. When you factor in value and genuine charm, they easily deserve five stars. Never having been to NM myself, I can't comment on the veracity of the food, but it's delicious. They're mostly focused on casual meals and comfort food that can take on a New Mexico flair in some way, as well as a couple NM classics. This is the bustling part of downtown Everett, one of the blocks where every business is occupied and there are medians in the street and things have a sturdy small town upbeat vibe (there are parts of Everett that are less than charming, to say the least, but they're farther away). There are big New Mexico flags on the front of the joint, and from the facade back, they're running a nice tight ship. Inside is a mix of nice tables, comfortable old barstools farther back, and a working prep kitchen behind a bar where you can sit and watch. The menu isn't the longest, but pretty much everything on it either looks interesting, or just plain sounds good, and you figure it's interesting, too, because everything else sounds interesting. It smells amazing in here, so, even before you look at anybody's plate of food, you're starting to think they probably do everything all the way right around here. They have soft drinks, a few ordinary beers on tap, and they seem to keep one tap open for cool small local breweries, which is rad. They have a few spirits and make a few cocktails in house too. For food, we checked out a burger and the Christmas Tree (three enchiladas). The burger comes with optional grilled green chiles, and you'd be stupid not to add them. They make the burger. The burger's enormous; I seriously don't know where they found the buns. The owner did say that other than hamburger buns and one or two other ingredients, they make and prep everything from scratch--smoke their own sausages, butcher their own meat, build every sauce from the ground up, anything grilled or smoked or prepped any other way before the dish comes together, all that grilling and smoking and prepping is done here. The enchiladas were spectacular, just exploding with flavor and perfectly tender and appealing throughout. The different chile sauces are where a New Mexican place is gonna live or die, and they really shine here. Just to be clear, I've never been to NM myself, but these sauces taste unlike anything else around here, and they're very, very good. We got small portions of three sides with all this, which ended up being far more food than we could finish. Really solid mac and cheese, some delicious sweet and slightly spicy baked beans, and chicken & dumplings. The dumplings were chopped very small, and seemed to spread a lot of white flour flavor to the soup broth. The broth tasted like good deep roasted chicken flavors, but there wasn't much seasoning in it, and few vegetables. There are now flaws to this dish but I could have done with more different flavors (thyme, carrots, peas, whatever) and less AP flour. This might be a family style or a regional style I am not familiar with, though. All this food and four beers were $50. The staff are insanely fun to talk to and super nice, and they are right on top of everything in the place the whole time you're there. One of the younger servers was at the bar eating some nachos at the end of her shift, and they looked delectable. One more thing we gotta come back and try. Once we got the owner going on how much we were enjoying ourselves, he was happy to brag about his kitchen and his staff; a lot of people here are family and they're all really good at what they do. He also bragged about his cinnamon rolls, and told us to come in for brunch on the weekends so we could try one. It's not often where you find a place where people seem to be doing every single thing they're doing specifically because they would like it if somebody were doing it--all the choices here seem to come from the heart. It's even rarer to find a place like that that's really good at food and service. This is exactly what I want in an informal place--good food that's not like everyone else's menu, even if some dishes are familiar, friendly people enjoying themselves, and reasonable prices. Nope. Never again. We came in for brunch and ordered the Christmas Tree to split and a side of macaroni and cheese. Service was slow to take our orders, we were never offered drink or water refills, when we finally did receive food we had no utensils so another table gave us some of theirs, and we waited over 40 minutes for our food while several tables who came in later were served before us. Honestly, I can look past all of that although a "Sorry for the wait!" would have gone a long way. What really changed my opinion of this place for good was the food safety. Our dishes were served to another table in error who had them for several minutes before being re-served to us. That is completely unacceptable. You don't re-serve food once it's been delivered. That's food safety 101. When we were checking out, another woman (not our server, maybe a manager?) asked how everything was and I told her I was uncomfortable with the re-serving of food. Our server was there and said that she had set the plates down for just a second before she realized and brought them to us. So, she straight up lied. To us and the other server/manager. She didn't realize her mistake at all. The other table had to flag her down and let her know it was the wrong order, her response was "Oh, you didn't order the Christmas Tree?"
