Came here when my first choice nearby was closed for the day. I'd heard a ton of good things about their other location, of course, and meant to go eventually but forgot this one was here. Tiny, carryout only, though there are a couple of tables to sit while you wait or maybe to eat a quick lunch. Super friendly staff. Fairly short menu; all the good stuff. I wasn't famished and didn't want to wait for chicken or fish, so I got an assortment of sides thinking that would be quicker. They fried up the okra right then, though, and had a steady stream of pickup orders coming through the door, so it still took 10-15 minutes. It was okay, though, smelling the amazing scents coming from the kitchen, talking to the staff and customers. I hadn't noticed they have ribs (just a picture, not on the menu) so I might've ordered those. Oh well. $20 I think, or they do combos with sides or fish and sides. Anyway. I got fried okra, and it was a big portion and absolutely amazing. No need for any sauces, tasty on its own. Perfectly crisp. Baked beans: my style, sauce so thick you can eat them with a fork. Slightly sweet, mostly savory, very good. Greens (collards) with turkey: outstanding. Tender but not floppy, nicely seasoned. Cornbread: soft, sweet, crumbly, topped with butter. Yum. Geechee rice: seasoned, bacon and sausage, very good. And black-eyed pea salad. I like black-eyed peas but had never had them in a salad. These were great: plump, with bits of tomato and cucumber and onion, in a vinegary dressing. Again, yum. Enough food for two meals. They gave me the side plate special, three sides and cornbread, which helped with the price. I was headed home and not thirsty so I didn't get a drink, but based on conversations with other customers I missed out on the lemonade and sweet tea. I'm a Bama girl so I was so excited to see the Southern inspired menu. I stopped by and placed a to go order for lunch. The restaurant was easy to find and their team was friendly. They have family photos inside that helped give their space a cozy vibe. It's not big enough to dine in but there's some tables available if you want to wait on your order. I tried the fish and chicken plate with macaroni and greens...a win! I could tell by how hot the plate was when I got it that it was gonna be good. The greens were well seasoned and the mac was nice and cheesy. Excited to have found this place. read more

I ordered this for delivery and did not get a feel for the restaurant atmosphere or the service. But the food was delicious. Catfish was amazing, as were sides of greens, okra and rice. The wings were also delicious. The batter they use is really great. I am already excited to eat here again, next time in person. read more

LISTEN!! I flew in from Oakland, California. Looked for something to eat and found this place. Small lobby, huge character. Christel took my order at the counter. Very polite and sweet. I ordered the fried whiting, chicken wings, greens, cornbread, yams, Mac and cheese and two of the lemonades. All to the face (slang for, "all for me.") EVERYTHANG WAS BUSSIN!! EVERYTHANG!! The fish was cooked right, flakey, tender and breaded to perfection. The chicken fried but still juicy and tender, flavor to give. The greens, tender, seasoned just right. Yams was YAMMIN!! Not too sweet and seasoned right. THE MAC AND CHEESE!! THE MF MAC AND CHEESE!! HELLA GOOD!! Nothing was overseasoned or salty. You could tell the fish and chicken were fresh. First thing is the food is delicious. Our group had fried chicken and catfish dinners. Sides are very good and taste like your mom or grandma used to make. This location is a carry out so plan on getting your food and taking it somewhere else to enjoy. If you go in and order it takes about 20 minutes for them to prepare it fresh and hot. I don't know why it is so hard to find good fried chicken in Cbus but thankfully that search is over. If I ate one more chicken tender, I was going to scream. I got a two piece white meat Alabama style with candied yams and mac and cheese. We also got a side of baked beans to try. FINALLY a good, crunchy chicken breast that took me back to getting Sister's back in the day with my family. The candied yams were delicious and perfectly spiced and I drizzled the butter in the bottom over the cornbread. I've always been a ketchup on my mac and cheese girl, it's how I grew up but I forgot to ask for it. I was nervous because the mac and cheese game around here is weak and I noticed seasoning in it which made me even more nervous. Holy cheeseballs was it good!!! This is how you do it. My statins will be working overtime and I'm fine with that! I'll admit, I'm a brown sugar girl on the baked beans lover and these were more BBQ style. But let me tell you that when you literally start crying while eating a food that tastes like family reunions of your youth on a day you're desperately missing your mom, it doesn't matter what your preference is. That's the definition of soul food if it makes you cry. I can't wait to try the low country style as well. The people were so nice which is a bonus these days. If they're up for a Saturday suggestion, I miss a spicy fried chicken breast done Sister's Chicken and Biscuits style. No fancy oil drizzle over the top like hot chicken, just a good spice rub before breading. Thought it wouldn't hurt to make a suggestion! I've been looking for a place that serves actual bone in chicken breast that isn't from subpar chains. My search has ended! Perfectly cooked chicken breast but I wouldn't mind a bit of seasoning in the breading. I'm from NE Ohio so JoJo's were a pleasant, tasty surprise. I absolutely love Modern Southern Table. In fact it's one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus. I've been several times and each experience has always been amazing. the food tastes great and it's a clean establishment. Unfortunately my last visit there was a hair in my collard greens which ruined the whole experience for me, but I would definitely eat there again. I just won't get the greens anymore. Ordered delivery/Doordash. The delivery person was prompt considering I'm not close to the restaurant. The Alabama Chicken was quite cold, which made me realize its not cooked as its ordered, but possibly pre-cooked ; the greens could have been good, but there was far too many stems and too much heat; the Mac and cheese??, but the cornbread was good. I called that Sunday Afternoon to speak with someone, it went to voicemail, after several attempts, I left a message, to date, no return call.
