I love Model Bakery! Can't go wrong with anything from here. We were staying nearby for a few days. So of course we came here for breakfast. I love stopping here when we're in Napa Valley. There's another location at Oxbow Market too. I was going to order at the kiosk but the line was so short, I opted to order in person. I had the sausage breakfast sandwich and a latte. If I was a pastry fiend, this review would likely be quite different, but as a salad lover, I can't recommend Model Bakery in the slightest. I was excited to see a kale salad on their menu, especially one with strong fixings such as squash and goat cheese; sadly, the ingredients were entirely AWOL. In the pre-mix photo, it appears like a relatively decent helping, but after mixing, it became a mountain of kale with the other ingredients having been a facade in the initial viewing. Classic shrinkflation by which a $20 salad (yikes!) is padded by a heap of greenery. Furthermore, the squash was undercooked and disappointing even in the few bites of it I had. I believe that the salad could be adjusted to be a satisfying meal (goat cheese is never a wrong choice), but right now it's a miss, for both the stomach and the wallet. read more

Cute cafe and bakery in DT Sonoma. This place was buzzing in the late afternoon. We popped in for some coffee and a bite to eat. Service was pretty quick at the counter and I had to go for the slice of veggie pizza and a coffee. I can't judge this place on any of its baked goods aside from the english muffin, but the english muffin is all you really need. We ordered one with sausage and egg and it was perfectly griddled with a really amazing chipotle sauce to really round out the whole sandwich. We also got a 6 pack of english muffins to go and had amazing breakfasts that entire week. I wish I bought more to stick in the freezer! The atmosphere was so cozy and quaint and the perfect way to start a slow morning before exploring the rest of St Helena. Ulises took our order: 3 different cookies $2.75-$4.75, a Carmelita bar $4 as well as a SH Veggie Breakfast sandwich $12.50, Sausage Breakfast sandwich $13.50, and a 12oz Latte $8 Everything was magically delicious! The only issue I had was them not having a public bathroom, which it turns out is the case for most of the restaurants in St Helena. I was told there was one down the street near the Tesla charges in the back alley. I had a bit of trouble finding it at first, but finally found what looked like one of the self cleaning restrooms you'd find on the streets of SF. It was automated from the button to open/close the door, flush toilet, soap, water and hand dryers. There were 2 restrooms next to each other in one big box. The problem was the one I used on the right side didn't have any soap, so luckily the one on the left was vacant, so I used that one to wash my hands. read more

This place is an institution and we had to make a visit. We went early on a Saturday and it was already very busy. We managed to get a table on the patio which was okay - hard to move around the restaurant with how busy it was as. Wish it was a bit more laid back - peaceful but it's popular for a reason. We came here twice during our weekend trip. Nice selection of savory dishes for breakfast and the cookies were great too! Service is ok in that they want to help! The set up for ordering is confusing- yes the line starts on the far right side but you order drinks and menu food at the register. Can only order/pick pastries at the pastry counter. One star off for consistently not preparing my italian soda based on number of pumps I asked for. One was too sweet (standard is 4-5pumps but he wasn't sure.) the other was not enough syrup. Not a huge deal because the food is lovely and folks who work here are very kind. I eventually located it with a staff member who was sweeping at the time. I also asked for an extra plate and was told no, which seemed odd. The service was efficient and fast, but there weren't too many clean places to sit due to water being all over the floor and dirty tables. Model bakery is one of my favorites. I've been to the Napa location several times and this was my first visit to the St Helena location. The sandwich menu is bigger here, but the viennoiserie / pastry selection is much smaller. I also think the coffee is much less smooth here. I usually frequent the Napa Model Bakery location when visiting the area. But with a short stay nearby, decided to come by St. Helena location after lunch today around 12:30 pm. After scoping out the pastries, was going to get the banana bread and lemon poppy seed bread. But saw one fly near the banana bread and another fly on top of the lemon poppy seed bread and decided not to get any of those pastries. Today was a very hot day and understandable that the bugs were out. But just not very sanitary or appetizing after seeing so many flies flying around. As I moved closer to the baked breads, you can see more flies. Since already in line, got a slice of lemon meringue and small fruit tart which were enclosed. The employees seemed indifferent to customers, just taking orders with not much friendliness. You put in your order at the front counter and then take your food from there, while you pick up coffee at a different side counter. I was very excited to try my Avocado Toast which was beautifully presented and while it tasted good, it was extremely hard to eat! The edges of the bread are too hard to cut through with the plastic knives/forks so I tried picking it up to eat it, but all of the toppings just fell off! I ended up tearing the bread apart with my hands and using the utensils to eat the toppings. My coffee was good and I liked the cute design on top! This is a popular bakery, but while I might stop by if in the area again, I wouldn't necessarily seek it out on purpose. read more

They have an online-order pick up area but it's not well managed. I'd ordered a cold brew w/simple syrup and half/half. Well, it was black. I went inside w/ it and tried to get the guy's attention to let him know it was missing the half/half and he immediately cut me off...didn't care what I was saying, and w/an attitude goes "we're still brewing coffee, you'll have to wait". Ooou...he had such an attitude. I snapped back and go "no, I already have my coffee...this is missing the half/half **I'm pointing to my cold brew**". Still not understanding me, I pointed to the paper receipt that was taped to our food order that clearly said, 'half-half'. He goes "it's over there" and pointed to a carafe off to the side. I go "where's the simple syrup??". He pointed to my cup and I could see a layer of it at the bottom. What was the point of me checking off the box for my creamer option online if they're not going to add it in. Completely pointless. i purchased chocolate rad cookies today. I have been buying them for many years. i even have their cook book and bake them at home .. When we're passing by the Saint Helena area, we make sure to stop by and grab a 6 pack of their famous English Muffins. They make for an awesome breakfast back at home. They are a bit messy, but in my opinion, messy is good haha. The service here is always great. The ladies working are always happy to answer any questions. The time we went here, my daughter wanted to try out their Croissantwich with Willie Bird Turkey Bacon. She really enjoyed the sandwich. The Turkey Bacon smelled really good and was not the ordinary turkey bacon you get at a typical grocery store.
