Went here on my lunch break. Wanted to try something new. Not sure how long it's been open now but I approve. Customer service was great. I got the Gyro Sandwich with Greek fries. The server offered me lemon rice soup which was complimentary and my favorite. I was given the option of house fries or Greek fries with lemon and feta. The Greek fries were good! Glad I tried them. The gryo was a good portion with all of the traditional trimmings, onion , tomato, and cucumber sauce. The sandwich was okay it lacked seasoning, but it was a nice sized portion. Seating was nice and private. The decor was modern. I felt $21 for lunch was a bit pricey $16 Gyro Sandwich Meal $3.75 Fountain drink. I had seen many great reviews of this restaurant on a local FB foodies group, so we drove 25 minutes to try it out. The place was busy on a Thursday evening, so that was promising. We waited about five minutes for a hostess as she was tasked with serving the flaming cheese and we were seated ln the bar area. It was very tight trying to maneuver past the tables, but the booth was nice once we shimmied our way in. Our server came to take our order and she was super nice and explained all the specials and made us feel welcome. We ordered the cold spread sampler (humus, spicy feta, tzatziki, and pita bread), a couple dolmades (stuffed grape leaves, cheese ravioli, and pastitsio (Greek lasagna). The waitress brought us some complimentary soup and the two dolmades. We appreciated the soup, but sadly it was lukewarm. The meat in the dolmades was wrong. It was too clumpy and not integrated well with the rice. My husband ate one and I had a bite of mine and left the rest. The dips were good. The hummus was my favorite. The tzatziki had big pieces of cucumber in it, so I didn't eat it. I don't like the texture of cucumber but I like the taste of it in tzatziki. I was hopeful for the pastitsio because it is my favorite Greek dish and I've eaten it at many restaurants. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I first noticed there was no red sauce at all. The meat layer is supposed to be a red meat sauce, but it was just ground beef and no sauce. All sides of it were dried out and hard, so I had to slice them all off. The bechamel on top had a good texture but was overpowered by the nutmeg taste. I ate two bites and tried to eat the potatoes which were undercooked and the green beans were overcooked and mushy. My husband said his ravioli were decent, not worth $16. He ordered a side of meat sauce and it was tasteless and inedible. We were surprised when we got the check and there was a $2.49 charge for it. I think the waitress should've informed us about that and he wouldn't have ordered it. We ordered strawberry cheesecake to take home to split. We requested the strawberry on the side but we were told the one strawberry was already on there. When we got home and opened it, we discovered a strawberry jelly substance as the top layer. I don't like strawberries, so my husband ate a little and threw it away. He was underwhelmed by it. After paying $61, I left hungry and went home and made myself a sandwich. I was really wanting to love this place and have a new Mediterranean restaurant to add to my list, but this wasn't it. read more

Being from Europe, I enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine a lot. The menu here has many options, so even picky eaters can find something to eat. Of course I dragged a little group with me, as always and all were satisfied and stuffed by the time we left. I general I must say, that wile the food is good, it is a bit on the bland side. This type of cuisine is usually a bit more flavorful. The soup I can neither pronounce nor spell, but it's the lemony Greek soup, was truly delicious though, unfortunately the restaurant ran out of it very early into the evening. Personally I opted for the gyro platter. Portion size was great. The tzatziki, potatoes and the green beans could have used a bit more seasoning. That being said, the gyros were the most tender I have ever eaten. That meat melted in your mouth, simply amazing. There are also specials available, just ask the wait staff. Talking about the staff, other than the hostess everyone was super friendly and trying hard, even while being extremely busy. And of course the free parking behind the building and the back entrance are greatly appreciated. I went here with my coworkers so there were a lot of us. The service was not the best. I got water once and once I got my Diet Pepsi, that was it. No refill or anything and w were here for over an hour waiting for food. I don't know if it's different with less people. The Chicken Parm sandwich was ok. The sauce had flavor. I felt like it was it was just ok. The fries were ok. I had to add salt to the fries and finished them not know they had ketchup. This was an experience that wouldn't bring me back. Wow. Just wow. If I could give 10 stars I would. The food was amazing and fresh. We ordered four appetizers to share, the saganaki, fried zucchini, the caprese, and cold dips. I really enjoyed all of the appetizers we ordered. My favorite appetizers was probably the spicy feta dip in the cold dip, but I would highly suggest all of these! I ordered the pesto ravioli and my sister ordered the lamb gyro and we split two entrees. My other friends ordered the falafel gyro and spaghetti and meatballs, which both looked amazing. I really can't wait to come back and try another entree, I heard you can't go wrong! The fries with feta were amazing! To finish off we ordered two desserts to split, the baklava was to die for! I met a friend here for dinner and it was the perfect place to catch up over drinks and great food. We shared the flaming cheese and eggplant rollups for our appetizers. Both were terrific, but loved the eggplant. The ricotta cheese and marinara in them were terrific. My friend had raved about the chicken soup - a creamy soup with lemon and rice - so I had a bowl for mg entree. It did not disappoint. I'm typically not a dessert person, but my friend convinced me to share a tiramisu - so glad that we did because it was so delicious. My husband had me bring him home the Cold Spread app and the lamb gyros. I tasted everything and it was all really good. The service was as good as the food -- our server, Brittney, was friendly. She brought all of our food and drinks quickly. The owner stopped by a couple times to check in on us - also super friendly. Irvington is a bit of a hike for me, so sadly won't be able to visit often. But, the next time I'm out at Black Acre, I'll totally stop by for a bite! read more

Don't judge this beautiful book by its cover. If this place were a book, it would be a leather-bound book with a hand-stitched spine and gold leaf. Unfortunately, the words would be plagiarized from Wikipedia. Needless to say, it is an utter disappointment. The updated decor is nice. It looks like it is straight out of Pier 1 Imports. Quite pretty, but lacking any authenticity or heart, just like the table plant. The negatives outweigh the positives because most of the negatives were about the food. Negatives: 1) The sides that come with dinner are disgusting. Sounds good on paper, but the green beans and the potatoes are most assuredly from a can. It is like that meme: "What You Ordered vs What You Received". The server assured me they weren't canned, but I know how canned food tastes. I am hoping she is ignorant, not a liar. 2) The pita bread is clearly purchased. 3) The gyro meat isn't very good. It isn't even a mousseline. It is gyro-flavored ground meat. Speaking of seasoning, it is also far too salty. I like a lot of salt, but this is too much. Without drowning it in tzaziki sauce and accompanied by tomato, it is practically inedible. To be fair, my husband didn't think it was too salty until after a couple bites. 4) They are stingy with the tomatoes. It was two slices of Roma tomatoes, halved. I stopped eating the meat when I ran out of tomatoes so I had about four bites total. 5) The amount of meat on the skewers my husband had was modest. He ended up eating my gyro meat, even though it was too salty, because the sides were inedible and he was still hungry. 6) The number of times our table was visited was ridiculous. It became intrusive. We really only needed our server to check on us, which she did faithfully, but three people asked us if everything was okay and if we wanted another drink, sometimes more than once. I was especially dismayed when the owner stood at our table for around ten seconds just being awkward. Even though I had given him clear signs I was uninterested in conversation, he kept asking questions we had just answered ("How are we this evening? Another drink? Is everything good? How did you like the soup? Do you want another drink?"), then he proceeded to walk the aisles of the empty restaurant. It was strange and off-putting. There are actually some good things: 1) The decor is nice. 2) Our server was pleasant and accommodating. 3) Cleanliness 4) The tzaziki sauce was delicious and fresh. 5) I enjoyed the Grapefruit Margarita. It didn't taste like grapefruit, though. My husband preferred my drink. I believe it was a Kamikaze. I could clearly taste the Tequila which was surprising considering the other 'cut corners' they use; in fact, I was surprised they used any alcohol at all. Irvington deserves another good restaurant. After a day spent in airports getting to Indy, this place was an oasis of gastronome glee. Amy, our server, was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. She treated us to a sampling of their Avgolemono soup and it was delicious. I had the Athenian Chicken Pita, and Greek Fries. The fries were piled high in feta. The pita was well seasoned with fresh ingredients. One of my friends got the Chicken Shish Kabobs with the green beans and loved it. The vibe of the restaurant was chill. We could have sat there all night drinking wine and catching up with each other. The Med will get a return visit from us and if you go, ask for Amy, she is such a sweetheart. read more

What a delightful time we had this afternoon at The Med cafe in Irvington. Such a pleasant surprise to find a gem of a Greek restaurant on the east side of town. Our server, Amy, was so knowledgeable about all the menu offerings and was very attentive throughout our meal. I ordered one of the specials of the day, the walleye, and it was great. First, it was huge, easily enough for two meals. It comes grilled (and is finished in the oven) and topped with lemon slices along with Greek potatoes and green beans. I also got a side salad for a nominal charge. It was plentiful and very tasty. My husband got the gyros platter which comes with a mountain of Greek fries. The gyros itself was very plentiful. He even brought almost half home and that is a rarity. He also very much enjoyed the Greek lemon soup. I have had better baklava, but since it was his, it is just as well that it wasn't overly tempting. :-) The total bill for all this fare was quite reasonable. Irvington's new little gem in town. My husband and I love Greek food and we sort live too far from the Irv so we decides to give it a try. First off, we got seated almost immediately. We were seated inside with a booth seat looking out on Washington Street. I noticed they had seating in two different rooms and also outside. Second off our waitress was very attentive however she did mess up our beers and got ours mixed up. We ordered the saganaki and it came out within minutes. Next we ordered the Athenian salad and the gyro plate to split between us. All the food came out in a timely manner and everything was excellent. We were watching what everyone was ordering and everything looked so good. We can't wait to come back. I assume the owner was the man walking around who was also super attentive asking how everything was. Overall super great service and super great food and very affordable for what you got. The beers were a tad pricey. We look forward to the next time to try out something else new. read more

Mediterranean food is not usually something I like. The Med has a menu that should fit anyone's taste. So many options beyond what most traditional Mediterranean restaurants serve. Of course we got the saganaki to start which was very good. We both got pasta dishes. I really liked the Farfalle con funghi. The galaktoboureko is really why I came since I love dessert. It was amazing. So good! Our server, Amy, was great. She was personable and had a sense of humor. She knew the menu really well. The atmosphere is where it fell short. It is very loud in there but maybe that is because we were in the bar side. They employees constantly were doing something with tubs of silverware which was clanging. One time they dropped a tub. Twice they knocked over a bunch of the plastic glasses. Constant clanging of silverware and dropping glasses the entire time we were there. Other than that it was nice. The interior has been updated. We will definitely be back. It is close to where we live. Great food. Great service. So many more things to try on the menu. read more

Had a Circle City Savings deal I'd forgotten about and decided to check it out. Service was a little slow but we were there at an odd time and the dinner staff wasn't there is my guess. Hummus and warm pita to start out. Next was Avgolemono which was warm creamy and so very comforting. We both got gyros. My husband had fries with his and I got a Greek salad. by the time it came to eat my sandwich I was so full from all the other yummy goodness I asked to take it home, but not without trying some nibbles of course. Andres (I think that's what I over heard) was delightful. Even explained to me the pronunciation and broke down the word in English for my dessert Galaktoboureko I told him that that I'll never be able to say that correct correctly even though he tried to teach me, but I know how to point and say I want that! In the space previously occupied by The Legend (R.I.P.) the Lincoln Square pancake house family has opened a lunch/ dinner spot. Based on what I've tasted so far, it's just ok/ very middle of the road. Which means, it's fine, it's edible, it gets the job done, but I'm not dying to race back over. My benchmark Greek choices always include hummus and baba ghanoush, but they only offer hummus, of those two. And there's is not as blended down as a lot of places, and it tasted like they use roasted garlic, which made it a little stronger on flavor than others I've tried. The eggplant rolls sounded good but were very hard to cut- like a little rubbery, seeming reheated- which might make sense in order to get orders in a timely matter, but impacts the experience of the food. The best thing I tried was the spicy feta, which I've not had elsewhere. Looks sorta like a pimento cheese, but nicer flavor. The tzatziki's garlic was a little too strong fro my taste as well. Service was ok. They offered fresh brewed iced tea, but it too was just ok. But hey, ok is better than not good. ‍ read more

The tatziki was excellent, and the spicy feta was pretty hot, but it paired nicely with the tatziki. The Italian inspired dishes on the menu were unexpected but fit the bill for my husband. We had dinner last night at The Med in Irvington. What a great experience! Before dinner tried the The Med Bruschetta which was delicious and so flavorful. For dinner had the Baked Lemon Oregano Chicken....which came with green beans and potatoes. Great choice.....chicken seasoned well and so moist and left you begging for more:0) They also offered a choice of two soups (Chicken Lemon and Barley) which were complimentary -- not advertised on the menu or the website but it was a wonderful addition to the meal. We had the Chicken Lemon --- it was sooooo good.....would love to have the recipe for that soup. Service was great and we will definitely be coming back. Great Mediterranean restaurant! The restaurant had good ambience and an attentive staff. We had the hummus plate with pitas. It was good. Each of us had a delicious Greek side salad. I had the kabob pita. Tasty, especially their tzatziki sauce...it was different than most. My husband had the kabob meal with Greek potatoes and green beans. Overall, a wonderful meal. And this isn't really a complaint so much as revealing my own issues, but I have always found the servers to be so friendly and talkative that it's quite overwhelming and feels unnecessary how they always feel like they have a long script or something.
