Neapolitan pizza that makes me swoon. I crave that thin crust, fresh mozzarella, and red sauce goodness. The Masonry was introduced to me by friends who were on a pizza-finding mission. We went there for dinner one evening and each ordered a pizza and we shared a salad. The classic margherita pizza is my favorite but I like to add prosciutto on it for added deliciousness. The pizzas are small enough for an individual with a big appetite to consume alone but you may want to share if you're not into that too-full belly feeling. As a Caesar salad aficionado I of course had to order one here. Instead of the usually creamy Caesar dressing they use a lighter option but it is still quite good. Both the pizzas and the salad go really well with a good beer or glass of wine but my favorite beverage to order is the cider that has spiced flavor. You gotta try it! read more

We came in to eat before the opera this weekend. It's more dive bar atmosphere, where rap music is played. I'm pregnant, so I couldn't sit down here for more than 3 minutes. Not a bad thing, just doesn't fit my mood right now. So when we told them we changed our minds to do take away instead, our server got really annoyed. I am not sure why this would be a problem since this would free up space for other potential customers on a busy Saturday evening. I didn't really let this part bother me. Then we ordered the sausage pizza. The pizza came out very burnt, crust was blackened and so was the bottom. I asked for a refund immediately after I was told "this is standard wood fired pizza, have you never eaten it before"? I'd been wanting to eat here for a while, but every time I'd stopped by with a group, the wait was way too long. I made a pit stop after a show at On the Boards one Sunday recently, and it was definitely the right time to go. First, their drink selection is great. Nice listing of beer and good wines available. My date and I ordered glasses of red while we decided on food. We were torn between traditional vs seasonal pies. Seasonals are fun because you can't get them all the time, duh. And their selection looked amazing... but being pizza purists, we opted for the margarita and added mushrooms at the suggestion of our server. (Side note necessary to add that their staff is wonderful. Awesome folks. Super friendly, welcoming, etc etc.!) My girl and I were staying across the street in an Air bnb for vacation and stopped by for a late night dinner during the rain. I came to Masonry for lunch on a Saturday - beautiful day - and it wasn't too busy around noon/1pm. My bf and I came in for a table of 2 and we sat by the seats near the window and there were probably 4-5 other couples seated. There's plenty of street parking (paid) however it might be more busy at night. There's a lovely row of tents set up nearby too which wasn't too appealing and some crazies on the street; however, the vibe inside the restaurant was great. Our server allowed us to seat ourselves, came by with some recommendations for drinks and food and we ordered one cider, one IPA and then the sausage pizza with pickled peppers. Everyone claims that the menu for drinks and list was extensive and large; however I think it was fair. It wasn't a HUGE variety but there's definitely a lot of great picks and something for everyone. The pizza itself was delicious! Definitely the thin crust style with a few toppings (sparse but not too lacking) and well done/cooked. It also wasn't too expensive for the price and we were able to share one rather than ordering one each. We didn't try anything else but next time I'd love to try the other pizza varieties. The waiter came by a few times but didn't really engage with us. He was engaging a lot with the couple on the patio instead; which is fine but I think it would've been nice to see him attentive to other people too. Staying in Seattle at the Staypineapple and wanted to find a place within walking distance for pizza. The Masonary came up on Yelp and was only.4 mi. away, so we said what the hey. It was a is a very 90's dive-baresue sorta place, but in the best way possible, by that I mean unassuming and much, much, I mean like 110% , cleanlier. They were spinning Sonic Youth Goo on Vinyl and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was on the TV. Aside from being miffed by remembering that a college roommate swiped my copy of Goo in 1991, I really dug the low-key vibe of this eatery. Salads were of good portion, fresh and tasty. We had some cider, which was cool, crisp and strong. The Pizza was delish, wood fired and great proportion of toppings to crust. If you are in town for a visit, or live in the neighborhood (lower Queen Ann) and have never been, I would strongly recommend that you check this place out. read more

My friend and I are visiting from San Jose (the bay area), and we were in need of some quick food that could satisfy our hunger. We decided to try out the Masonry, since it had delicious-looking pictures of their pizzas from other Yelpers! We walked into the establishment to be greeted by a warm tone ambiance, and one of the staff was quick enough to provide us with a menu. The Masonry requires you to show your ID to them because it is a bar (but we didn't order any drinks). We had a choice to sit anywhere we would like, and we sat within the long tables that other customers were seated at. We ordered the Al Diavolo because I love having hot honey on my pizza :) and wow was the pizza soft and full of flavor! My friend called it the "El Diablo" because the pizza was very spicy, haha. I'm also usually the type not to eat the crusts, but the Masonry's pizza crust were crispy and quick to eat. Good thing we had our thinking caps on to come by here for dinner. It's a small restaurant, with a few tables, a large community table, some outside seating and a comfy bar area. Cool relaxed vibe inside. We sat at the bar, the bartender was super friendly & nice. We decided to start off with a Caeser salad which was nice, enjoyed the shaved slices of parmesan on top, perfect size to share. Also, we got an order of the meatballs: you get 4 good sized meatballs in a tasty marinara sauce. Meatball was super moist, soft, flavorful, the sauce was delicious and perfect for dipping your pizza crust in it. Lastly, we also got the mushroom pizza: delicious mushrooms, nice cracker like crust, well cooked, nice melty cheese right out of the pizza oven, its nice you can see them prepare each pizza to order. Great selection of beers, we sampled a few cool looking ones and ended up getting a blueberry beer. what?!!? Whatever, it was tasty! We totally killed our meal and enjoyed every gluttonous moment! I found this spot to hang out at before the Justin Timberlake concert at KeyArena, and it was perfect! It's only a five minute walk to the arena. The restaurant is pretty small, but it's cozy and the atmosphere is loud, fun and social. I love pizza and the pizza here was good, but not the best I've had. We ordered the margherita and the mushroom/pancetta. I love the thin crust pizza, but I wasn't fan of the burnt parts. My favorite parts of dinner were actually the flavorful and rich sweet potato gnocchi and the French onion soup. Probably not the healthiest of options on the menu, but arguably the tastiest. I really enjoy the texture of gnocchi and the ones they had were really tasty and had the right amount of salt and cheese tossed over it. The French onion soup was good, not too salty, and had just the right amount of gruyere cheese as well. Service was spot on, really helpful and quick. Oh heckkkkkkkkkk YES. The Masonry is quickly becoming my favorite spot in Seattle. Okay, so I moved from the tri-state area recently and I am always on the quest for the best pizza. I make pizza at home, watch pizza TV shows, grab a pie whenever I can - seriously I am an addict. I found out about The Masonry through instagram as I saw they had some great beers in both locations. Also, as a beer fanatic I knew I had to come check this spot out. This location is the original, I haven't been to the Fremont one yet, but this looks a bit more chill, small and has a lot of character (beer stickers on the walls, huge collection of Vinyl Records, etc). My fiancé and I arrived around 1:00 PM on a Wednesday afternoon to find a few people already enjoying their pizza and beers. We grabbed some seats up near the bar and the friendly bartender immediately greeted us with some menus. At first glance in this spot I noticed that beautiful pizza oven. With only one guy cranking out these pies he sure is busssyyy but does a damn good job. I was so excited that they had a vegan pie on the menu as I am usually the weirdo that has to ask for pizza no cheese and get odd looks - listen people, I love pizza but my stomach doesn't do cheese! Anyway, the vegan pie had marinara sauce, garlic, fresh basil and a hot chili oil. My dining partner got the classic margarita (marinara, motz cheese, and basil). Oh - and lets get started on the beer list. The bottle selection has amazing options from all the hype breweries and the tap list you can find your local favorites like holy mountain. whew - I could really spend some serious time drinking/eating here. The place started to fill up about 30 minutes into our meal with large groups, couples, etc. Despite the full place, the server/bartender was super attentive to each table and the guy making the pizza kept busy. Keep in mind this place is designed to have everything family style so sometimes you will get the pizza at different times (with my luck, I got mine first as my fiancé had to wait patiently while I devoured this pie). The pizza was so delicious. On mine the hot chili oil really added to the overall flavor, I am a spicy food freak and would typically add chili flakes, but this was enough to sub for that. The crust was beautiful, perfect char and sooooo thin that you leave not feeling overly stuffed. In all, such a great spot. This was a cool, hip little restaurant with a great atmosphere. Loved the ambiance and the decor here. I like it when places have wood ovens too, so that was a plus for me. The service was good, thought it was kind of odd that they didn't have a set server for each table though. Wasn't a problem, just something I noticed! I got a glass of white wine, do not remember what kind, but it was good, and I usually prefer red wine. I am a complete pizza addict, but I am also a sweet potato addict, so I had to try the Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Asparagus. It was absolutely delicious. Downside, it was a small plate. I wanted more. Wow! I generally do not start reviews with the word "wow" but The Masonry totally deserves it! If you are someone who loves good wood fired pizza then this is the place for you. I have to say that I am very particular when it comes to pizza since my grandmother used to only make it from scratch and she would frown upon buying most pizzas because as she said, "it's like eating garbage topped with sauce and cheese." Well I know my grandma would definitely approve of The Masonry. First of all the staff here are amazing. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel relaxed and they're polite and helpful with making selections, especially with choosing a beer based on your taste. They're always spot on! Then there is the food. It's not a huge menu but everything on it is just amazing. I totally recommend doing what I call "The Masonry Tour." The Masonry Tour is my term for ordering three things off the menu that I love. First, start with a draft beer. Then move on to an order of the meatballs as an appetizer and a pizza. This is enough food for two people and as their menu says, their food is made for sharing, just like my grandma's home cooking. The meatballs come with four delectable somewhat large and nicely spiced meatballs. The sauce is something to experience and after you finish your meatballs use the left over sauce for dipping your pizza crust in. It is the perfect way to not waste the sauce and your tastebuds will thank you. Then of course, there is the pizza. I have tried all of them since I'm in the neighborhood. I usually get them to go but I really enjoy going there because I just like the intimate atmosphere. So back to the pizza... I love it. Their style allows the crust to cook to the perfect point of tastiness. And when it comes out they top it with a perfect balance of olive oil on top. I can't put into words how awesome it is. It is the best wood fired pizza in Seattle and the good news is they're about to open another location in Fremont next to the new Cafe Turko in the Masonry building. Lived in the area for over 1.5 years now and just noticed this place! When walking my dog, I saw this super crowded place and found it was a pizza joint! I decided to give it a try with a group of friends a week later. While the place is a bit small (and seems to be always crowded), the staff is friendly and the pizzas are great! Here's something I get tired of writing after visiting other cities: "This pizza is better than any I've had in our current town." It was certainly true of the Masonry, which we chose largely because it was easily the closest geographically of about 20 (?) pizza joints included in a not-ranked-in-order Best Pizza in Seattle Eater.com list. As far as I know, the Masonry isn't actually considered the best in town or anything, but it was damn sure good enough for us: A wood-fired Neopolitan-style Margherita with super-fresh tasting sauce, and great balance of crisp and chew and char on the crust. Just excellent. As a food item, five stars for sure. Why not five for the whole restaurant? Well, for a thin-crusted pizza, it sure took a long time to come out of the kitchen (35 minutes), given that the Masonry was only about half-full at the time we ordered. (Service was pleasant aside from its glacial pace.) We were also hoping to order the clams in beer--those pictures on Yelp make them look delicious--but we were told (this was lunchtime) that the shellfish hadn't been delivered yet. (Disappointing.) Our server highly recommended the meatballs, which were as tender and flavorful as advertised. But unlike the piping-hot pizza, they came out at barely above room temperature. The Masonry is actually more of a cozy barroom with a food menu. It's got a great beer list--a dozen or so mostly local ones on draft, plus a big list of bottles, with a heavy emphasis on sours & saisons (not really my thing, but it's certainly what's popular now). read more

I love this place! From the incredible charred, thin crust pizza to the RECORDS played for music, this is a fun place. We go there mostly for lunch, as it's in our office neighborhood, so haven't had many beers there. But what a selection! The caesar is my favorite in this city - garlicky but not thick or creamy - just really tasty. Service was efficient. The neutrals: would not recommend for large groups or families. We squeezed 5 of us into a metal picnic table, and got creative on fitting all the food/drinks on the table.
