Been going to Roy St. location since it opened, probably 1x every couple months on average...visits in the dozens btwn dine-in and takeout in total. Pizza is very good if you like the style, one of the best in town.
However, past few times feels like service has sadly declined, to where it's generally just plain straight attitude and unfriendliness. Like they're doing me a favor. I'm no maintenance when I eat and I've always tipped well, whether eating there or taking to go. Normally my lady and I would order a pizza, Caesar salad and meatballs as side. When there i'd have a beer and she a glass of wine.
Today we wanted takeout and would forego pizza to try their meat sandwich for first time (lunch menu), and still ordered Caesar and meatballs. Will say sandwich was also very good, though salty for sure. Food and flavor is not the problem.
We placed order by phone, and I went inside after 20 minutes...live nearby and they said 20 min. Once there server asked to help and I shared my name and that I was picking up. She/they said, "oh yeah, I've got you" and so it seemed all would be fine. Seahawks game was on tv and so as not to be in the way of others at tables I sat at the end stool at the bar to wait and eventually pay. The place was less than half full inside, a few were outside, and nobody else was seated at the bar. I was not in the way. Probably waited another 20 minutes....40 minutes in total...okay, no biggie I thought, though my lady waiting at home was hungry. After about 10 minutes there though the bartender guy (never seen before) who I just assumed knew by then that I was waiting for takeout b/c he gave no acknowledgement to me upon entering nor after walking past me 20 times to help others. (I figured he knew either from server or he was likely person who took order over phone). Believe he was only male identifying there, just speculating. Server had gone to get wood. Cook was cooking. Bartender guy was walking by me a bunch. Finally he asked, "what can I get ya?" so I replied, "oh I'm actually just picking up a to-go order." No response from him. Ten min later food finally comes. He said, "this one is the sandwich and these are the meatballs, salad coming soon." He turns to run the tab. While doing that i decide to open the sandwich container to look at it. Never had it before and was in a small cardboard take out box like those at grocery store salad bars. I looked at sandwich and closed it up. He turns towards me again now with the check and noticed I had opened the sandwich box and proceeded, "what? I told you it was the sandwich and you still checked it, you don't trust us? We've been here for five years." That's great buddy but how the heck do you know why I'm looking at it, and what business is it of yours. Still a salad in waiting. Maybe I wanted to see how big it was since I'm sharing it when back home, and may need to order more food. (For the record it was a decent size sandwich to share with the salad and meatballs), just in a small box. Maybe I'm contemplating staying and eating on premises and perhaps having a beer. You don't know if I'm sharing or not. Maybe I'm allergic to focaccia. Maybe I'd like to ask to add more peppers to tab. Etc.etc etc.
And what's your point about 5 years? Yeah I've been here twice as long, so what. I don't even know what that means. Does a politician always tell the truth bc they've lived on the planet for 60 years? I digress. Because there was no lack of trust here, I was actually interested in seeing what I would hopefully be consuming and enjoying shortly, especially since I hadn't had it before. Despite all my visits there we don't know each other or recognize each other. And that's the point. It's Groundhog Day every time "you" go in there. Nobody else there would probably say they remember me either...dozens of visits. Is it my lack of lengthy hair or visible tattoos, "cool clothes" (yours or mine)? Y'all are or have become too cool for school. Two stars...objectively...four for the food, zero for the service lately...nets two. Btw for what it's worth the four stars for food is from someone who actually grew up in the land of apizza...I've eaten at some top notch pizza parlors "on all the lists", mostly on the east coast and with zero attitude...perhaps you haven't? I'm down one pizza joint in seattle. You're down a customer couple that actually regularly, dare say frequently, enjoyed the food and the music (good hip hop crate) and the beverages....just not the misguided attitude.
