    Raspberry lemonade

First time trying this place since it opened! Bailey was our bartender and was fantastic! The place was low key & southern ambiance which I loved, with two large tvs behind the bar and a couple beers on tap. We opted to go with cocktails which ranged from $10-$13. All were fantastic! The Raspberry Lemonade was my favorite followed by the blueberry crush. The pb&j and the bourbon margarita were okay, don't think I'd order them again though. The pimento cheese fritters were fantastic! Light & airy with delicious breading allowing the cheese to shine without overpowering. One thing I'd recommend is having an option for tortilla chips with the dip, as my wife can't eat gluten so we opted not to get the pimento dip to share (which we really wanted to do). Excited to come back and try a full meal but it was an awesome place to visit and glad to have a new nice place near our house, we will definitely be back

The Mason Jar restaurant is now open at 141 Kempsville Road, near Greenbrier Road in the heart of Chesapeake. They offer classic Southern Breakfast items and they are open for Lunch and Dinner as well. Some of the offerings include Southern fried chicken as well as Shrimp and Grits! They really know how to treat their customers with Southern hospitality.

Shrimp & Grits - only 3 small shrimp was a huge bummer.

The first visit here over the weekend was a bit of a mixed bag. Upon arriving, we had to figure out where the door to go inside actually was. There are two sets of doors, but neither had the restaurant info on it (tinted windows make it even harder to figure out). I highly recommend adding it to the entry door to clarify which one people should be entering. Get that logo and hours up there, pretty please! There was no wait, so that was great. However, once we were seated we waited no less than 15 minutes before someone came to our table. Our server was lovely, though. She was really personable and checked on us often from there on out. Once we ordered our food, we waited for almost 45 minutes for our food to come out. The hubs was not happy - he was angry (and that's not pretty, folks). The hubs liked the flavor of his shrimp and grits, but there were only three small shrimp. Fortunately, I had plenty of food on my plate to get an assist with my Chicken & Waffles. The waffle had good flavor but was slightly on the dense side (to be fair, I am SUPER picky about waffles). I got butter to soften it up, but it came out melted, which I found a little strange. The fried chicken, however, was PERFECT - nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. I had a blueberry crush, which was pretty tasty, but slightly lacked in the alcohol content. The prices here are on the high side. It was $72 for two people to have brunch. For a brunch that pricy, I expect to be blown away (at least give me more shrimp in the Shrimp and Grits and a better alcohol balance in a mixed drink). We're definitely interested in some of the other menu items that looked amazing flying by us while we hungrily waited for our food. But we'll likely skip some of the higher-priced items and the drinks. We'll also probably wait a little while to return so the staff gets a better footing in the daily ins and outs. We've needed something like this in the area. I'm hoping it only gets better from here.

    Pimento balls

My wife and I took a lunch date to The Mason Jar yesterday. The hostess/waitress/bartender/manager was delightful and took care of us. We ordered the pimento balls for an appetizer and they were tasty. They weren't to greasy and the jam on them gave them a different dimension. I got the meatloaf and it was good. The mashed potatoes could have used some help on taste, but the broccoli was good and the onion rings were as well. My wife got the chicken salad sandwich. I had a bite and it was good. It could have been elevated by adding maybe pecans to it for some crunch. We'd go back for another meal.

Great little spot in Chesapeke! Excellent service, great drinks and tasty southern food. The outdoor area is huge with fire pits.

Small little brunch spot with a small bar. Delicious food and good drinks! Friendly staff.

Every waitress using their fingers to pick up lemons, limes & oranges and putting in the customers drinks. Gross!

Extremely high hopes and totally sad about this place. First.. super slow service.... like turtle slow. Grossed out by watching the severs pick up the limes & lemons with their fingers without even washing the hands first. Watched this 8-10 times within a 15 minute span. Floor dirty and had to wipe off the chair before sitting down. Food was just ok. For the price point I was expecting the level of quality and quantity similar to the Egg Bistro or First Watch. Zero desire to go back.

I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and was told upfront that it would be about a 20-minute wait on the grill, which I was completely fine with. But after 50 minutes had passed, I finally had to go up and ask about my order. When I finally got my food, it was clear things were not handled well. The fries were made immediately and left sitting in a closed Styrofoam container the entire time my sub was cooking. By the time I received them, they were a soggy, wet pile of fries with zero crisp left. As for the sub itself, it was about 90% bread and maybe 10% actual filling. It took three hard, crusty bites before I even reached any meat--and when I did, the flavor was disappointing and lackluster. Definitely not what I expected from a place known for subs. Their "Italian dressing" is really just a ton of oil with a tiny splash of vinegar. They should just call it what it is instead of something misleading. To top it off, I had to ask someone to wipe the table before sitting because it wasn't cleaned. Overall, this visit was a miss from start to finish. Long wait, soggy fries, a flavorless sub, and unclear menu descriptions. I really hope they improve consistency and quality, because my experience did not match the reputation they seem to have

But I also tried the Grilled Pastrami & Swiss on Rye, which is simple yet really freaking tasty (the butteriness of the rye bread is sooooo good). We sometimes share some steak fries with cheese, but we ALWAYS get a couple of cookies. They're fresh and fabulous! There's a reason this spot has been around literally my entire life. If you're a Chesapeakean, you know why. If you're new here, ya gotta go and find out why.

Consistency--both in the kitchen and in the dining room--has made this longtime favorite a reliable choice for those who value substance over flash. The service reflects that same steadiness. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing--always ready with thoughtful suggestions for anyone navigating the menu. I began with the garden salad, a straightforward but well-executed mix of fresh greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet Vidalia onions, finished with housemade croutons and a balanced balsamic vinaigrette. It's a simple dish done right, which sets the tone for what follows. The she-crab soup--an award-winning staple--delivers exactly what you hope for in a classic rendition. Rich, velvety, and deeply satisfying, it's best enjoyed in a cup unless you plan on making it the centerpiece of your meal. For the entrée, the French Dip stands out as a clear highlight. Built on a soft roll and filled with thinly sliced prime rib--slow-roasted to achieve both tenderness and depth of flavor--it's served with a properly seasoned au jus that brings the entire sandwich together. It's a dish that leans on quality ingredients and careful execution rather than unnecessary embellishment, and it succeeds because of it. Court House Café continues to earn its reputation the right way: consistent food, thoughtful service, and an atmosphere that feels rooted in the community it serves.
