    Good vibes here!

The bartenders provided great service. They were welcoming and friendly. They also gave me this great Vikings hat.

Rolled up to The Map Room in Bucktown and snagged a bagel breakfast sandwich from New York Bagel & Bialy plus a drip coffee. The spot's vibe--maps on the wall, travel books to flip through, and chill early‑morning regulars--makes it feel like a low-key neighborhood find. The breakfast sammie was bomb--chewy bagel, melted egg and cheese working just right, no soggy mess--and the coffee was smooth, not over-roasty. Staff had that laid‑back Bucktown energy; quick, friendly, zero pretension even as the crowd trickled in . If they tossed on a schmear or a better pastry option, I'd bump it to five stars, but for a morning pick-me-up this hits solidly.

Solid service and a good selection of beers. The ambiance was pretty chill and it was nice to have the open window area to hang out in. Pretty chill bar overall.

Great vibes, great service and a great big beer selection. It's a coffee shop and a neighborhood bar all together. Wonderful place to grab a drink and catch up with friends

Fun place to get lots of beers in Bucktown. It can get pretty crowded in here with all the hipster locals. The Map Room has sort of a travel theme. A bit of it goes into the beer list as there's lots of local ones as well as some from far away. Pretty good prices. A lot of beers to choose from. It has a lot on tap as well as many more in bottles and cans of familiar and more exotic stuff. There's lots of local ones as well as from over the world. It's about $7 for a craft. Last time here one I got was the 18th Street The Shield, a classic American porter. Chocolate malts and a bright spicy finish. There's also world famous ones like Weihenstafaner and other classic old time beers that are harder to get any more. Good variety of beers. It has local and foreign to choose from. There's not much to eat besides chips but you can bring in stuff.

The glassware is absolute perfection. The vibes are perfect. Love the beer selection, love the bar

The Map's my go-to Monday night tavern. Its offerings of draft beers are extensive and can be a bit daunting. Monday bartenders extraordinaire Chris and Drew are great with recommendations and quick to offer a sample if that's what seals the deal. In the mood for a cocktail--no problem. Heck, even the coffee is terrific! Owners Mark and Laura are wonderful people and committed to their patrons and to the neighborhood. The Map Room's a friendly place, conducive to conversation and not dominated by televisions. A special nod to the staff for being Covid-compliant--it ain't easy. Come on in and make a new friend!

Old school Chicago for craft beer and chill hangs--dates back to before white hipsters thought Logan Square was It. To be fair, Map Room is definitely in Bucktown, but I'm in a sassy gentrification mood so I'm reaching for whatever I got nearby. Belgian-beer on tap list isn't as extensive as the beer-destination Hopleaf bar in Andersonville, but you'll still usually have a few on tap here that are gorgeous selections that are rare to find in the city. Full list is a best-of tour of rotating local and national craft across all styles. No food here, but you're encouraged to order in, and there's always the free pretzel sticks.... which actually they didn't serve last time I was in so I'm hoping this was a supply-chain issue and not a terrible decision to deprive us of salt. Map Room serves Metropolis coffee In the mornings, and can be a chill place to grab your laptop and get stuff done. The back outdoor patio is fenced and enough off the street that you get less noise. Bathrooms are a little tight and relatively grimy but you're here for the beer, board games and banter. Stop checking your phone while you pee and get back out there.

    Cool vibe!

Honestly one of my new favorite bars in Chicago. Always such nice staff that are helpful and attentive. Great environment to hang out in with always plenty of comfy seating. Wonderful in good weather as they open large windows and can always catch a nice sunset! Great variety of delicious beers on draft and any drink you could dream of. Will be a regular! Highly recommend!

Now this is the type of place that I absolutely love. I came in here while I was waiting for a tune-up at the nearby car garage. They're a "bar" but also kind of a "cafe" that offers a variety of drinks and depending on what's available, pastries or sandwiches. My latte was very good and the guy that made it (and brought me a box of fresh pastries to choose from table-side like a fancy pants) was really nice, and the prices are good! I witnessed lots of regulars coming in that seemed to know staff/customer on first name basis. They do have TV's but they weren't at a loud volume. I can't speak for how things are in the evening, but for the afternoon this place is the tops. There's plenty of places to sit and read or write. The tables are strategically placed by windows, allowing adequate light during light hours, with shelves of Nat Geo and other travel-themed volumes for you to peruse if you so choose. I read a couple articles on Siberia. Guess I can't complain about Chicago winters anymore.

I went last Friday for a friend's birthday, we had a great time, but the service was awful, I understand we were a big group, but we technically had to beeeeg to order drinks. I left after waiting 20 minutes at the bar without being served, only one bartender on Friday? seriously? she saw me and passed me by, at least 5 times. Nop, thanks.

My new favorite coffee shop... ever?? It was so good I managed to fit it in TWICE in a short trip…read more And have NOT shut up about it since I came back!! Military latte ($7.25)-- matcha and espresso mixed together with milk I don't know what sorcery they put in this but it's SO GOOD!! like matcha and espresso had a baby idk but they kept all the good parts of each other and balance each other out. For example, the matchy isn't earthy or chalky like some places or fake like the Starbucks one. The espresso isn't sour or burnt. And somehow when you combine both of them it's this perfect mellow blend but has the slight bitterness of both matcha/espresso where you're like "ah yes it's not just milk" that flavor really pulls through. But again it's mellow and blends together sooooo well like perfect mesh my goodness. Doesn't overpower doesn't feel like you're drinking matcha and coffee at the same time. It just becomes like a new thing altogether and that thing is glorious. The first time I got it iced (and the black camo latte hot) and all I could think about was how much better it would be hot.... So I had to come back for it !! And it ISSSS better hot. I enjoy hot lattes the hot milk and lack of ice is smoother and blends it together better or something. Obviously the iced version wasn't bad because I still had a great time... but when I came back for the second time and got it hot like YESSS THIS IS IT !!! Black camo latte ($7.25)-- same as Military but instead of matcha it's hojicha mixed with espresso! I took sips of this (as opposed to it being my own drink) and thought it was good! Really depends on if you like the taste of matcha or hojicha more. This one is deeper and richer, more earthy. Maybe even caramelized roast kinda flavor? Buuuut I know hojicha isn't for everyone so take it with a grain of salt. The combo with espresso is magical though like whatever ratio they're using is so perfect. It really blends together so well. ANDDDD here the coffee:milk ratio is so good!! No milky watered down lattes! I'm so used to having to add espresso shots or asking for less milk because coffee shops really be wildin in this economy but this place has a good ratio! Like yes wow we still have good things I love this for us. Matcha lemonade ($7)-- So absurdly sour I took one sip and that was enough for me!!! You really have to be a lemonade person like if that's your drink of choice to quench your thirst on a hot day then this is for you!! If you don't drink lemonade on the regular then I really wouldn't bother. I think this is a collab with a charity or something? Up your vitamin C for a good cause I guess. Cortado ($4.50)-- Espresso and milk, small cup, good test of their espresso and yesssss it passes with flying colors. And again, this place has their milk ratio down to a science. Perfectly balanced, not too much milk and you still taste all the coffee. Love love loveeeeee this place and would absolutely love an LA location. Until then, guess I'll have to plan another Chicago trip to get this goodness again !!!

I think Sawada is a little more overhyped than I would've liked…read more The Military Latte was pretty good, and I really appreciated that they offered macadamia milk! That said, the matcha itself wasn't necessarily the best matcha I've ever had. I think there was just too much milk in the drink, so I couldn't really enjoy the matcha and hojicha notes. It was enjoyable, but not memorable enough to justify all the hype - or the price. I really liked the ambiance, and the baristas were genuinely kind. They were also very willing to adjust or remake a drink when needed, which I appreciated. Overall, it's a cute spot with great service, but I genuinely cannot accept the price-to-drink ratio. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think it lived up to the hype.

I ordered 5 coffees one morning, and all the register guy did was write a few names on some cups and placed it down. I understand tipping culture is a divided topic of discussion, but at the end of the day, it is OPTIONAL. After pressing the skip button from what I believe to be non-tip worthy service, he threw a fit and said "Wow you're serious? After I did all that?" Meanwhile all he did was write names on cups. Now I would understand if he was the barista working hard to pump out the coffees, but two lovely ladies were in the back doing that. He shooed me and my friend out of line as we were still processing what he just said. The next customer orders and he had the audacity to talk about us to them while we're 5 feet away. Delusional as he was, he had the nerve to say we were holding up the line and made him do "all that work", and I could promise you, we knew exactly what we wanted to order the second we got up, and took no longer than 45 seconds. We also witnessed he got into it with another customer, so it seems like he's the problem here. Most wild service I have ever received, all for some milky coffees. I ended up tipping the lovely ladies in the back though. Be warned. There are much better spots.
