This is the first Manhattan quality coffee house in the hip little city of Hudson NY where there are many others that don't compare. A beautiful, spare no expense comfortable atmosphere located iinside a boutique hotel. The pastry is obtained from the top bakery in the region and is most certainly top notch. Try the twice baked pistachio croissant! My americano was excellent and the WiFi is good too. This is the place to be in the morning if you're feeling important. This is probably the single most exceptional space I have ever been in. The overall design and the attention to detail is absolutely breathtaking, yet at the same time this is a incredibly welcoming and comfortable space. Were were there in December and the design seemed to be well suited for the cold weather and we were able to enjoy the realistic gas fireplace. The outside patio looked lovely too. Service was really excellent with multiple people checking in on us, and the cocktails were great. The carrot hummus was phenomenal (though my friends thought there was too much garlic) and the hot dog was very good and super-creative. I wasn't inspired by the cocktail suggestions so I asked the waitress to have the bartender make a custom drink for me, but without the give-and-take of a personal discussion it didn't end up being a good match for me. Lesson learned. I wish the cocktail list was longer as that would have given me a better chance to find something. We will be going back down to Hudson just to experience the Maker Lounge. I'm still shaking my head in awe at this beautiful lounge. read more

Visited on 3/12/22- Wanted to love this stop, but it just fell short. The bartender and host were friendly, but the waitress was condescending and inattentive. After waiting over twenty minutes for our drink order to be taken with only three other tables filled, the waitress rudely gestured and made a sarcastic remark. The signature scent cocktail is a great idea, but had to ask for the scent sample and was again ignored for an extended period of time. The Lounge itself has a great speakeasy feel/look. However our experience was terrible, so it ruined the vibe. When we first got there, we were told by a staff member that it would be 10min, but then 2 min later we were told (by another staff member) to come back in 30min. As we were leaving for the 30min wait, the first staff came back and said he got a table for us outside. We were then waiting for 25+ min while many staff members walked by us without acknowledging us, or even turning on the heater until we asked. Finally, after flagging down a waiter to get staff to our table, a different waiter came out and said that he thought we were going to be sitting inside (no one told us to move), and did we want to move inside now (after 30min outside). The food wasn't bad, and drinks were good. But based on that experience, it wasn't worth the hassle. read more

Beautiful lounge in Hudson that transports you to a lush, dark hideaway with extra cozy vibes. We came here for a drink during my birthday weekend trip and it was definitely one of the highlights of the places we went to. The outside is pretty unassuming but once you get inside you'll be plenty surprised. There were couches to lounge on, chairs to sit closer to people, a fireplace and a pretty bar. All the drinks we had were delicious. Would definitely recommend going to the spot if you are on a date, want to impress anyone or looking for a cute hide away from a winter night! read more

The room itself is well decorated, the serving staff are nice and the piano player is great but really this is why I gave it 1 star: 1) We didn't feel welcomed. Our party of 6 was too big to sit together, so we were split up. The Manager made a point about how they had a policy against no-standing because it ruins the environment (which is absolutely fine and understandable) HOWEVER when we were seated, more people arrived and proceeded to stand near our table and at the bar the entire time, so really it's not a policy and you made a fuss for no reason. 2) The cocktails are over-priced. They aren't bad but weren't "wow taste this" quality for the prices. 3) They messed up the billing. So I mentioned our party was split, well at one point there was space for us to sit together so we did. They pooled the tab (fine, also getting the 20% tip for parties of 6) but afterward just charged MY credit card even though the tab was split and three checks were signed for. This is wholly disappointing. In my three years of living in America, the whole process of service-billing is fundamentally a trust-based system, and this is the only time I've been horrifically overcharged/conned ($300 for 4 cocktails and some fries). Honestly, if you're in Hudson just go to the other bars that have local beers and good food. If you're going to the Maker's Lounge for the cocktails and ambiance, go back to New York for real jazz and people. read more

We had oysters to start which were great and we both ordered the burger which was ok - a little spicy which eas a surprise since the description didnt have anything in it that would make you think that. My friend asked for pulled chicken and they served it in a 2" bowl, without even a service plate; it looked like how I serve my cat his food. I had been there once before and ordered the veggie burger, a tiny little thing that tasted exactly like lentils and old mushrooms put in a blender. The theme, impeccably executive, the decoration absolutely breath taking, the art on the wall is pretty impressive! The cocktails were delicious, the food at the restaurant was absolutely lovely, the service was absolutely flawless! ( thank you Laurie) the owners's kindness, generosity and professionalism are what made it all even more special. We were able to enjoy our cocktails in the lounge and our dessert in the library, both in front of magnificent fire places. The music was perfectly coordinated with each moment and room. Beautiful space and very pleasant environment to take your time in. Got the goat cheesecake which was decent and a cappuccino also decent but nothing spectacular. However the service was not very good it took about 20 minutes to get a couple of drinks and after asking for the check we never received it so we just left money on the table. Wow- what an amazing hidden gem. Before you enter, a heavy velvet curtain veils the inside. Once you enter, the space is cool and intimate with high ceilings and a fireplace. Every piece that decors the space is well thought out- I especially loved the lighting fixtures that hung high and grand over the room. The fringe lamp lighting over the bar seating looked cool instead of dated. We did not try the food but the burger looked delicious as it passed by our table. Menu seemed limited but perhaps they will add more once they are open longer. Not only was this one of the prettiest bars in Hudson but it also one of the prettiest bars I've been to-a lovely addition to Hudson. read more

I've visited the Maker Lounge about half a dozen times since it opened. The cocktails were always good and the ambience and decor are beautiful. However all of that was soured after my experience tonight. My husband and I walked in and noticed it was a busy night. However, the courtyard had at least one open table we could spot as we stood waiting in front of the entryway curtain. The bartender made eye contact as we scanned the room, but didn't greet us. The server then emerged from the back and made eye contact while picking up drinks from the bar. This continued for several more minutes as he served a table in the courtyard and another indoor table. The final straw was the server delivering drinks to a party DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE DOORWAY WE WERE STANDING IN and promptly walking off as I waved and said hello. We were never greeted or even acknowledged, so we walked out. As much as I enjoyed their drinks, basic manners and human kindness are not optional. No thanks! read more

Huge fan of the lounge, cafe and restaurant. Have been going there since it opened. Always loved the friendly yet meticulous bartenders (JC for example). Have been three times this Spring and am disappointed. While the drinks, decor and.glassware are close to perfect, the vibe of the bartender marred each experience. The first time we thought, " ....must be having a bad day." After the third visit it appears they focus on some customers while completely ignoring others. The other staff seems to be trying to compensate by checking in awkwardly and almost tiptoeing around . We sat for 15min at a half filled bar. A server had brought water but when we were finally acknowledged it was a gruff "have you been helped??" We, of course, hope t return but wanted to offer constructive criticism In hopes that everyone will be the better for it. read more

My husband and I were in Hudson this weekend for our anniversary and visited the Maker for a cocktail before dinner on Saturday. The bar is absolutely stunning and not something we expected to find out of the city. Our bartender was a lovely British lady who made us exquisite drinks and took excellent care of us, offering details of the building's history and suggestions of things to do in town. Despite it being busy she checked on us repeatedly and when we finally realized we had to skedaddle dropped what she was doing and cashed us out immediately. We also ended up ordering an appetizer, the walnut pate, and it was delicious and served by a charming young man from Australia. We went for lunch yesterday. It was a charming place; but we won't go back. Once our orders were taken we felt virtually invisible. The service, in our opinion lacked friendliness - as well as attentiveness. It was not super crowded while we were there, but we waited quite some time for everything - to place order, for meal, for check. My sandwich was the worst I've had in quite some time. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. We had been to the Maker Lounge several times before this weekend, and always loved the decor, the atmosphere, the pianist, the service and the drinks. This past Saturday night, however, will likely be the last time we go there for a while. There was a good crowd, but there were three stools at the bar, our party was four. We were told "Everyone MUST be seated to be served!" There was an empty chair near the three stools, and we offered to have one of our party sit there, while the other three sat at the bar. "No, we cannot divide a check! The seats are set up in pairs!" (though there were only three empty stools at the bar) they could seat us outside, it was cold, but they had blankets for us to wrap up in. Then when a waiter finally came outside, I ordered a drink that had been on the menu the last several times I was there, but was informed it was no longer on the menu. I asked if they could only make drinks that were on the menu. Then after some delay, he return to say they could make it. He was about to leave, and we told him we needed to order because we had dinner reservations down the street. He told us it was quite busy, and it may take a while, he couldn't promise anything...after a lengthy wait, the drinks came about five minutes before we had to leave. We asked for the check and swilled our drinks, and got out quickly as we could. Perhaps they were not used to having a crowd at the place, but the gruff treatment we received from three different staff people was enough to keep us from going back.
