Great happy hour, nice selection of food for all diets and killer avocado fries. I've been multiple times now, and truly like the atmosphere paired with friendly service. A couple times I've had my order forgotten, misplaced or extremely delayed, but it's not entirely a deal breaker when you can sit by the water on a sunny day. Main dishes are spendy, but there are plenty of options in the realm of reason. Ceviche was decent, fish tacos were marvelous, dips and sauces are all yummy. We had a wedding rehearsal lunch at The Loft. The restaurant has a great view - it is right on the water, and they were able to open the doors to give us an alfresco feel. Antonia was absolutely a dream to work with. She helped us create a limited menu and personalized it for the bride and groom. Our server was fabulous and very attentive, made recommendations for our guests, took group photos when asked. Must try their Bloody Marys! Absolutely the worst service I have ever had in my life. Had a reservation - and were quickly placed outside in the windy cold. (Host said it's first come, first serve) why do you take reservations then? Staff proceeded to ignore us for the duration of our meal/drinks. Waited 20 minutes for our first drinks, which were a glass of wine and a beer, easiest drinks on the menu - as we watched other groups order mixed drinks after us that came out 10+ minutes quicker. Food took even longer. No explanation, no apologies, no redeeming quality throughout. I am very understanding of the weird and less than ideal circumstances with COVID and really am satisfied with the bare minimum in service these days. I don't often take the time to review a restaurant, but being in HR and knowing how hard it is currently to get and retain good staff - I HAD to send a shout out to the management of this restaurant! We ate there this evening for Mother's Day. We did not have reservations and had to wait a little while, but probably 10 minutes or less. The food was AMAZING. The area/ambience FANTASTIC, but most impressive was the fact that you appeared to be FULLY-STAFFED with friendly, customer service-oriented staff that actually seemed to be ENJOYING THEIR JOBS! Our waitress, ASHLYN, was one of those rare individuals that light up a room when they enter it. She added so much to our experience and was just personality plus plus!!! Everyone else was great as well, but we interacted most with her and she made our experience! You are lucky I am not in the restaurant business, or I would poach her for sure!!! Please send our most sincere gratitude, make sure she gets our tip (she had to leave before we did), consider promoting her!!! and keep doing whatever it is you are doing to take care of your staff! I've been here several times now and every experience has been wonderful. The food has always been great (though I never order anything besides the Mac and Cheese!), and staff is always friendly. [Update] Came in with my gal around 6:10 to have a nice dinner only to be disappointed by the quality of the food. I come here pretty often and just now have realized that during busy lunch/dinner rushes the chefs put out bland garbage. My sig. other order the cilantro lime tacos and both her tortilla wraps had big black burn marks from the grill... I don't understand why the chef just saw it and said "ehh they won't notice" and continue putting on the rest of the ingredients. On my side of the table I had the southwest chicken wrap which was just a disaster... no flavor and the chicken was about as dry as the Saharan desert. Highly avoid the loft during its peak times you'll walk out displeased. [Update] Had another go at The Loft and this time I tried my first vegetarian bean burger. Let me just say that the burger was bomb.com! So rich in flavor with a generous sized patty and bun, I would have totally ordered another one if my Mrs. wasn't around ;-) This place updated the menu just a tad by adding some new entrees. The waiters and cooks seem to be moving at a faster pace now which is a lot better than what it used to be. Loft, you never let me down! I don't quite understand why it's rated at 3 stars because this place deserves a better rating! I'm impressed by the changes and hope that it continues! read more

Absolutely delicious food with a great view. I've visited here a few times and haven't yet been disappointed. Happy hour is offered 3:30-5:30 PM 7 days/week. The happy hour menu, which includes a few food and beverage items, states that it is "bar only". I've eaten on the patio and received happy hour pricing, but check with the hostess when seated. The service is generally pretty good. I've only had one experience when the waitress was not very attentive, leaving me waterless and not delivering the bill in a reasonable time. My favorite menu item is a cheesy jalapeño dip served with tortilla chips. If I hadn't been in public, I'd have licked the dip bowl clean. read more

My honey and I had dinner at The Loft about a month ago. We were both happy with our halibut tacos and margaritas. The fish was tender and well seasoned. The tacos were generously dressed with shredded cabbage and a flavorful, fresh cut salsa. Ordered the same thing tonight - terrible. The fish was tasteless, tough and leathery and the taco was dry and the tortilla edges were like cardboard. My daughter had ordered the Philly French dip and she remarked that it was amazing they could put that many ingredients in a sandwich and produce something so bland. What gives? Different chef? For $45 (two meals, nothing else, not even a drink), I can think of a dozen other, better places in Bellingham. This place is OK. The location is nice, it's a comfortable atmosphere and the staff was very nice. However, the food was nothing special. Also, I substituted French fries for sweet potato fries and they charged me $3.50 for it. The price difference on the menu between those two items is only 50 cents. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food at the Loft. Had heard about the Loft from others so decided to try it out on Monday. Everyone was very friendly, especially our server, Andrew. We ordered drinks and parmesan, garlic fries. Everything was brought in a timely manner and the fries were delicious, lots of roasted garlic and fresh grated parmesan. It was a very hot afternoon, but sitting out on their deck over looking the marina, we enjoyed a little breeze that was perfect. A couple sitting near us requested "very" crisp fries. Andrew acknowledged his request and stopped by after they had a chance to try them to inquire if the fries were crisp. And indeed they were. Good follow up Andrew! We'll be back again. read more

Well "stuff happens" and things change. For one thing the prices have gone to what I would call "non happy hour", and the service has grown increasingly bad. We have not been going down as often as in the past which at one time was a couple times a week. I had spent some time on the bay a couple weeks ago and decided to take my dog for a walk along the waterfront. In the breezeway outside the Loft there is usually a dog bowl and my Pug was thirsty so I took him through. No bowl, being a bit thirsty myself I ventured to the deck outside the Loft to get a beer and a drink for the dog. I seated myself, the waitress came by and I ordered a beer asking if I could get a little water for my buddy, now under my chair. She said sure and disappeared arriving back with said beer after a fairly long wait but no water. She claimed she would be right back with a bowl for the dog and disappeared again. She did not come right back and my beer had been gone for awhile before I saw her again. She said "hey, the dog water is not going to happen because its like a hassle and the owner does not want dogs here anyway....." Check please. Two issues here: 1) Dogs not allowed? Just say so but don't make my best friend set there waiting for a drink of water for half an hour while I sip a five dollar, "not happy hour" priced beer. 2) I wrote a polite letter to the manager via the website email to let them know just what I have reviewed here and now over a week later no reply. This is what I think must be a business approaching failure if it is indicative of how they handle this kind of thing and to then not reply to a long time customers email on the subject is inexcusable. read more

I had the Prime Rib Philly with extra crispy fries. The fries were delicious and tasted like how fries should be- it was lightly salted already. The meat was super good and flavorful, specially with the sweet sauteed onions and the red bell peppers. The bread was kind of soggy, but who cares since it was going into the au jus anyway. We went to this restaurant last week. All the food was very mediocre, especially considering the price. I ordered halibut and chips. The fish was mushy and the fries were probably the worst i have ever tasted. I have done fries at home in the oven which tasted better. We were the first ones in the door when the restaurant opened. I am not sure if that made a difference. The fries seemed as if they were left over from the day before and just briefly heated. The most recent reviews on here are unfortunately not super good, but we wanted to check it out for ourselves, well mainly our holiday work dinner was here and we didn't have an option. First off, the space is darling, even in winter. I know that in the summer it's the place to be with wide open garage doors and a beautiful view of the harbor. I can tell there's definitely not as much traffic this season. Our waitress was great, despite recent reviews of bad service... it wasn't over the top but we always had water and the right amount of attention.. especially for a large group. The food though was not the best I've had in Bellingham, especially when comparing price points. The loft is definitely pricier, with smaller portions and the creative process behind the food is there but just not the delivery. We got a chicken dish with gnocchi and an apple cranberry slaw, and my husband got a burger! The chicken dish had a wonderful combination of fall flavors, but was bland without a pack of spices or sauce component. The burger my hubby got was delicious, the apple bbq sauce stands out... however the fries were mainly crumbles and over done, they didn't taste fresh at all. The selection of wine I was impressed with, but overall, I think there are other places in Bellingham with better food & better prices. For this price point, you'd expect quality food. My tacos were so cold and dry that my fiancés french fries ended up being my meal. I let the waitress know and she didn't offer to do anything about it. She just asked if she could take it, I said fine. Don't come here with an appetite. I had waited a long time to eat, I was starving. Ate the first one, couldn't eat the second one. The tacos, are just two tacos on a small plate. That's it. For $18. If they were out of this world quality food, I could understand it. But paying this much for such terrible food is daylight robbery. I went to Boomer's directly after and it was worlds better than the dinner we just overpaid for. And it's a substantial amount for the price point, not to mention how delicious it is in comparison.
