I've been here half a dozen times. Here's how basically every one of my experiences go: Show up and the place is anywhere from nearly empty to 80% full. Regardless of fullness, I wait at least 20 minutes for a table. My server usually shows up - at the earliest - 10 minutes after I've been seated. Order food and server disappears until food comes out. Server delivers food and immediately disappears never to be seen from again until long after I've finished my food. If I have a problem, or need anything, I find that the servers will consistently avoid eye contact with me. I definitely thought this was my imagination at first but it happens very often. The food is pretty good, so I can't give it 1 star (although maybe not up to the standards the price would suggest). I can't think of any other restaurant I've ever had below average service multiple times, but with the exception of one very nice gentleman, my service has always been just terrible here. As a bonus, they once brought out my medium rare steak well done. It took me about twenty minutes to flag down a server (not my server, just a server) at which point they remade my steak (good) and didn't say anything else about it other than a very brief "sorry" (not as good). I hesitate to recommend this place as a good dining experience, but I like their avocado fries. Just don't go if you're impatient :) read more

The food was very tasty, although a bit overpriced in my opinion. My wife ordered the crab ravioli and it came with only 5 ravioli. For $26 I would have liked to see a little bit more of a portion. The service was a bit of an issue, we never got our waters refilled and the waiter dropped off our check without saying a word to us. Not very friendly. This place we used to come to all the time for the amazing clams and awesome edamame. We haven't been there in a couple months and they changed the entire menu. We had a group of 15 there a couple weeks ago. Half of the tables food was wrong. All of the food that came out was cold. Great service. Mediocre food. They've reduced their menu greatly since I was last in. I had a hard time finding something I wanted to order. Sparse selection and newer unjustified fine dining prices. Settled on the avocado bacon sandwich. The prices for substitutions and add-ons are ridiculous so I stayed with regular fries, which were the best part of the whole meal. The "pulled chicken" on my sandwich tasted canned. No trace of the advertised chipotle aioli. The sour dough bread tasted rather cheap/boring and as though it was toasted on a flat top that hasn't been cleaned in months. I mean could be wrong but I didn't enjoy my sandwich at all. It was a dark and stormy night and all I wanted was a good meal and booze. We had passed by this place on our way to the marina this summer and vowed to check it out. I'm so glad we did. Lucky for us it wasn't too busy and we got a table by the window. With a storm blowing outside, it was warm and inviting. We both had cocktails. Hubby's whiskey sour was a bit weak but I don't like bourbon so it was fine for me. I had a hand poured margarita, it needed more lime juice and less sweet and sour. It's hard to find a good margarita. I'm spoiled by my own homemade margaritas. The appetizer menu was varied and I wanted to try everything but we settled on the Bacon Wrapped Prawns. Scarfed those down, delicious smokey bacon and tender sweet prawny goodness served with a spicey dipping sauce. Mmmmmmmmmmm For mains I had the Dungeness Crab Ravioli served in a creamy Alfredo sauce. Decadent and filling. Hubster had fish and chips. I was impressed with the breading, it wasn't overly coated in thick, gooey nastiness. Instead it was lightly coated with a savory tempura that enhanced the natural mild cod flavor and paired with the house made tartar sauce with it's dill and tarragon, I think this was about the best fried fish I've had in a long time. Gotta give a special shout out for the hand cut fries...skin on, crispy potato, parmesan, garlic comfort food. Another hard to find food. (I absolutely loathe frozen processed french fries.) For dessert we shared a piece of Peanut Butter Silk Pie. My husband loved it. It was too sweet for me. I will say that the peanut butter flavor was nice and the texture was nice. I wish they would have had a fruit dessert like a crisp or even a citrus dessert like Lemon mousse but hey, I'm just nitpicking. All in all, lovely meal. Excellent service and decent prices. The food was really quite good. But the service was just eh. I think our server was new (I hope so at least) and we had to ask numerous times for things. Took forever to get initial drinks, the check, etc., etc. Oddly enough the most frustrating thing was receiving our bill and noticing a charge for a side of ranch. Like, what...? I've been to burger joints that charge for extra sauce and get that, but we have never been charged for a side of ranch at a "nice"/expensive restaurant. Where to start with this review... The bar/restaurant looks awesome when you walk in. There are large roll up doors which are great in the summer time, but makes for a very cold dining experience in the winter. The wait staff is absolutely horrible; un-attentive and rude. You have to beg to get a drink refill, alcoholic or non. Please people if you don't enjoy your job or people please don't come to work. Finally! This place is exactly what Bellingham has needed for a while. The atmosphere is great, the staff was remarkably friendly, the menu was well thought out and appropriate for this type of restaurant. It'll take a couple more visits to truly appreciate the full menu and bar, but I can see that happening all within the next couple of weeks. Curmudgeons beware! This is not the Bayside Cafe. If you're coming to the restaurant for a great dining experience with a modern approach you'll be quite pleased. The Loft at Latitude 48.5 recently opened and came to mind on a Sunday evening for dinner. Having been a fan of the previous tenant, Bayside Café, we thought we'd give it a try. The management did a total remodel of the space and it is different! The wall between the restaurant and the bar was removed making the space more open. All surfaces were refinished with wood and other clean and simple surfaces. We sat at one of the booths along the raised section, hardwoods contrast from the seating surfaces, both are clean and nice. The menu is simple with lots of varied choices. Salads to tacos, burgers to seafood dishes. Not only are the menu choices varied, the prices are, too. There are a couple of Asian Bowls (noodles, curries, rice) that are very affordable entrées. There are other seafood dishes that are at the high side. We ordered a pasta dish, fish and chips, and two taco dishes. Service was good and the food arrived pretty quickly. The presentation was simple and not fancy. The fish and chips was beer battered, nearly over done, but still very tasty. The french fries were "fresh cut" and not quite done, some limp, some soggy. The other dishes were well received and given a thumbs up by my fellow diners. One of the cool things about the decor is that the windows overlooking the marina are garage doors that can roll up. Our visit was in early August and the evening was a bit too cool to have the doors open...boo hop. It would have been cool to have them open. Check out the Loft, I think you'll like it. read more

What's with the yelling from the kitchen? It was a total turn off to walk in and hear that noise drown out the hostess. Prices were reasonable and the food we ordered was good. I'm only giving them one star because otherwise I couldn't post this review. I can't judge the food for this visit, as we did not ear there this time. I have eaten here in the past, and for the most part, the food is good, even though most of the dishes contain cilantro, a personal dislike. My friend and I showed up shortly after they opened in preparation of lunch hour on a Friday, and basically had the restaurant and bar to ourselves. We were deciding if we wanted to sit in the restaurant and the bar when a waitress/server/employee came and met us at the front counter. I'm assuming she was working there, but maybe not. She didn't introduce herself and I didn't see a name tag. She was all in black, but then, sometimes I dress in all black too. I'm not sure if she just had a fight with a co-worker or found out she had a flat tire on her car because she was PISSED and certainly did not have the patience to engage with use as we decided where to sit. My friend and I asked if there was full menu service in the bar, and when told yes, decided we would sit in the bar. She (the "employee") practically threw the menus at us and turned and walked away. My friend and I just looked at each other dumfounded. My friend said she had had unfriendly service the last time she was there, so we left to eat elsewhere where our presence was not an inconvenience. read more

Wow have been here several times but have been over charged at least twice for my food even tho they ran my debit card. Charged twice what I was supposed to pay according to my signed receipt. Had to call my bank to fix the issue. My bill was $60 and they charged my card $120 and my tip was def not that much. I save my receipts. Each time this happened it was one of he male waiters. Sounds like a scam is going on for the waiters to make more $. So illegal. DONT GO THERE!!!! Went there again. Waitress named Leah seated us and that was about it. We love the loft. It's one of our kiddos favorite place to eat. They give kids a pirate ship with their meal that includes all the fixing. And at the end of dinner or lunch they get to pick a prize out of the treasure box. Favorite items on the menu are: chicken Thai salad, Ahi salad, and the Diablo burger. Service is spotty, but overall it's a great place to go for a business lunch or with the whole family. Plus it has a gorgeous view of the bay! read more

Pretty bad, overall. My wife, son, and I went here for brunch. It took over 45 minutes to get our food (which is rediculous for a veggie burger, grilled cheese, and an omelet), and when it came, they brought out the 3 dishes 10 minutes apart each. My food was cold, my son's grilled cheese wasn't grilled (it was just american cheese between 2 pieces of bread). Slow service, poor food - the atmosphere is interesting (hence the 2 stars) with nice views - could be amazing with a bit better cleanliness, better service, and better food. read more

After my first taste of calamari I decided to check Yelp? I told myself prior to reading the reviews that if they(the reviews) were good I would politely ask the waitress to bring me another order of calamari and if the reviews emulated my appetizer I would walk. I was excited to try out The Loft beside the marina on this beautiful sunny afternoon. The location is fantastic, and we were able to be seated beside the window to enjoy the view. The wait staff was quick and courteous, giving us the food and wine specials and the menu had a good selection. Looking for something light, I ordered the veggie sandwich and hubby ordered the Reuben. His sandwich, which came with fries came on a swirled bread and heaped nicely with meat and sauerkraut. It was delicious. My veggie sandwich was terrible. The undercooked veggies were falling out of the sandwich so badly, I couldn't eat it with my hands. When I tried to eat it with a knife and fork, the bread was so chewy and stale, I couldn't cut it with my knife. I ended up eating the inside veggies and fries, but I was left with disappointed with my meal. It's a young crowd, and I got the feeling it probably gets louder and fuller near the bar on weekends, but an early weeknight was a good time to go, and I'm willing to give this place a second shot with another choice of meal. read more

When we arrived it was slightly before happy hour so we ordered calamari and our beverages. They were ok. The coleslaw did not have dressing..which is the second time we've tried their calamari with the same condition. What caused this review is the clams. (Again now it is happy hour but we still decided to order off the regular menu). The clams were definitely reheated and still cold in the center. We sent it back, they brought us another dish of clams that has been microwaved as the bowl and broth were now hot, but as before the clams were still lukewarm. Drinks were ok, but nothing impressive. We did not bother sending the second one back as we had to get back to our boat. We tipped at 20% for everything except the clams. But I do not recommend. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

On a boat in the marina in front of the restaurant and ordered takeout . I know these are tough times and I'm thankful they are open. I got the southern fried chicken burger clam chowder my wife had the tai chicken salad. The hostess was polite and I got my take out on time. I asked for tarter sauce for my fries got to the boat, no tarter sauce. The fries were limp soggy and cold. The chowder was heavy on potatoes flour and clams had apparently jumped ship. The tai salad was supposed to have chicken but it was really tough. My burger was super heavily breaded and the chicken was really thin. This was a wonderful place for someone who never visited the West Coast before. It gave a great view and atmosphere while also delivering a wonderful evening. The food was excellent. I had the Avocado Fries, the Diablo Burger, and the Peanut Butter Silk Pie. All three were absolutely delicious, especially the burger. I'd recommend this for anyone who enjoy seafood too. They are under the impression they can uproot a successful restaurant from one town and drop it into another. The decor is sparse as are the table settings (nothing but a cheap, cafeteria style salt and pepper shaker). Had to wait almost 20 minutes despite there being many open tables. The seats look nice, but I agree with other reviewers that they are a little uncomfortable. Like others have mentioned, the constant yelling from the kitchen is obnoxious. Had a small Caesar salad. It was quite good, but I was not offered any fresh ground pepper. My daughter had Yam fries and they were soggy and quite flavorless. I had the Halibut Oscar. It was a nice fresh piece of fish that was cooked well. But overall the dish was a bit bland an uninteresting. It wasn't bad or anything, but nothing that exciting. The desserts were pretty good. The service was decent and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Overall, it was decent. But nothing to write home about. read more

I had a group of nine, called 15 mins ahead, arrived to find no water or settings anywhere in an almost empty restaurant. We started to sit down when the hostess asked of we were the group that called. She asked us to follow her to the front desk so she could grab menus. Not bad, but really not great. High prices for fairly normal seeming food and a surprisingly casual atmosphere. We went here for our anniversary thinking that this seemed like a nicer, higher end place to splurge a bit on. We were a little taken aback by the casual atmosphere after browsing their website (which makes it seem a bit fancier then it actually is). We are fine with casual, but for our anniversary we like to try to be fancy. The service was good and quick. The waitress was not exactly the most warm of people, but she wasn't mean either. The food was good, but we were expecting something far better for the prices. My wife got the pear salad with salmon and I got the Ribeye. Her salad was good and the salmon juicy and tender, but for $20 it seemed far from worth it. My steak was cooked perfectly and the garlic butter they added was a perfect pairing. But the sides of mashed potatoes and veggies were very basic and not super fun. It was good, but not worth the $30 ticket. We also shared Avocado Fries which we ordered because they seemed so interesting. They were very good! Very creative and had a tantalizing texture. Would highly recommend that item. They have a decent drink menu and the Mojito was definitely above average. We may return to try some of the more creative sounding dishes such as the Seafood Chimichanga or the Crab Ravioli, but this is not going to make our short list of Bellingham restaurants. One last note this that their happy hour specials are extremely good deals. Definitely the best time to go. read more
