We stayed at the Hotel Bellwether recently, and ordered room service from the Lighthouse Bar & Grill for dinner. The food was mostly very good, but what really stood out for me was the small but excellent wine list had some outstanding values. The Matthews Cabernet - which is sold at the winery for $50 / bottle - was $48 at the restaurant, and the Orin Swift Papillon - which retails for $90 - was $80 at the restaurant, and they serve the wine with good quality Riedel glassware. The Burrata Peach Salad and Gems Salad were both delicious. A couple of the fresh oysters were a bit mushy. The Pan Seared Lamb Chops were cooked just right (medium rare) and the pickled blackberries offered an interesting twist. I'm told the Hamburger and French Dip were also very good. read more

Hmmm...where to start? The LH B&G is one of the more expensive spots in town, and we've not been for over a year. This was our 33rd anniversary meal, and I'm fairly certain we'll be eating elsewhere for our 34th. The drinks were decent, so no complaints there. The bread used to be complimentary and served upon being seated - no more. That's now a $6 starter. The salads/chowder were delivered promptly and were quite good. Things went downhill from there. They were not busy at all and it was well over 45 minutes before we were served our entrees. The salmon was decent, but you had to get past everything else to even taste it - too much seasoning, pickled blackberries, and a blackberry sauce that drown out the salmon itself. The cod was also decent, though the brown rice served under it was wildly undercooked (pretty sure rice isn't supposed to crunch). Serving sizes were also small for the price, as others have noted. We're not generally ones to send food back, so we endured. Dessert was also a let down - banana cheesecake was very bland, and who puts some sort of berry flavored sauce under apple pie?? Our server was nice, so no issues there. But when spending $250 on a dinner for 2 the expectations around the food are somewhat higher than "meh". We might go sit in the bar for a cocktail and a snack, but as for a higher end evening/meal out the LH B&G has unfortunately fallen off of our list of possible options. read more

What a great experience we had last night! We went with another couple and haven't ever had dinner here, I did however stay here for my wedding and have breakfast 14 years ago and wasn't a fan, but after last nights experience I can't wait to come again! We had dirty martinis, espresso, martinis and and old fashion my husband had water all were good. Started with 2 orders of bread and calamari, when we got the bread there were only 4 small pieces and before even asking our server y so little she immediately was like it looks like you didn't get much bread im sorry would you like more so that turned my frown upside down. Calamari was good nice and crispy Our entrees were seafood Alfredo( lobster was the show stopper for presentation), prime rib dip kidda what you'd expect, seafood boil literally amazing wild get again, and mine the crispy duck it was beautiful and so good wish there was a little more meat I ate the whole thing. read more

Came here for Mother's Day. We typically go to Anthony's across the way and wanted to try out some thing new. I will start by saying there were a lot of positives. The staff were super friendly. The location is beautiful especially this weekend with the sun out. We had booked our reservation because it was a party of 7 and we wanted to make sure that we had enough seating for everybody. We noticed on the website that there was a Mother's Day Brunch; but there was nothing on the website to state that the regular menu was discontinued for the morning; so we went in assuming those who wanted the Buffet could enjoy that but those who didn't were not forced to. Unfortunately when we had arrived we were told that the regular menu was not on offer today and the buffet was mandatory. In addition we were not able to cancel the reservation as there was a 75$ no-show fee which was the same price as the buffet. Onto the food; as with most buffets there were some standouts and some lack luster dishes. The highlights were the Prime rib, which was tender and flavorful; but dry if you didn't get it medium-rare. The omelet station was good as well as. However; the best part was easily the prawn cocktail which were amazing! Some of the disappointing selections were the egg's benedict which were essentially hardboiled eggs on top of a slice of ham or salmon. Similarly the salmon filet was overcooked and dry especially without any sauce to go with it. Overall, I think this would have been a much more pleasant experience if they were more flexible or forthcoming with the buffet; and I think the buffet was slightly overpriced for what was offered. read more

My husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend in Bellingham, the Lighthouse Bar and Grill never disappoints. The atmosphere and ambiance is easily the first thing that is noticed it's very relaxed and adorned with great views of Bellingham Bay. I greatly appreciate the stellar we received from every staff member of Hotel Bellwether; our server Andrea was exceptional. Eat outside and take in the lovely views with amazing food. PSA: It's on the water and can be cold, but they have blankets! Five of us went to dinner, we all had something different: Salad, duck, a sandwich...So obviously a very big range of cuisine. But the good part was that they were all so delicious that we couldn't choose which was best. Drinks are super creative and delicious, but woo! Some of them are STRONG. Service was really fantastic and very friendly. Despite it being freezing and breezy, the food stayed warm while we were eating, and the experience was super enjoyable. We live locally in Bellingham, but a lot of people who come here are staying at the hotel. There's quite a few options for a good food in Bellingham, but we wanted to dress up a bit so we decided to go to the Bellweather. We've been here several times and always had a good time, about half the time we go to the bar side, but it was a bit busy tonight. We were greeted at the front by Erick who we hadn't met before. My wife and I are pretty social so we do enjoy having a host at a restaurant, this is something we were used to before we moved. Erick and our server Maureen were super cool, just the right amount of friendly, and just the right amount of letting us chill. We do like the vibe at Bellweather, it's a place where you can get dressed up a little bit but then completely chill. They had a great classical guitarist who was providing some super mellow tunes, perfect volume. Lighting was great, great mise en scène. We started with the crab cakes, then had them bring out a Caesar salad, then the scallop potatoes which are cut up, razor, thin. I thought the star was the potatoes and the very interesting sauce. Cap off with Pellegrino and mocktail since we don't drink, super mellow and enjoyable evening. We spent quite a bit of time there and it just slipped by pretty quickly. Was meeting family, who I haven't seen in years, here for dinner. Drinks were decent. The bread sticks were so tasty. I got the special, which was salmon, and it was... OK. The sauce that they used was tangy. It wasn't horrible, but... it was not what I was expecting and was hoping for more of a savory sauce. Everyone else's food seemed like they liked it. Place is very nice but, unfortunately, the sun was going down outside and it was getting colder outside and they had the door open the whole time with the AC on and I was shivering the entire time. Our server was Maureen. She was nice...ish. She made things awkward a couple of times with my cousin and even gave him attitude. He asked for a beer and it had been a few minutes so when she brought out the salads he asked her about the beer and she, with a hotty attitude, told him that she had "just put it in so he will have to wait." Later, he was drinking a drink, on the rocks, and it was still half full, and she asked him if he was finished with the drink and was reaching for the drink about to take it away. You could clearly see there was quite a bit of the drink left. Later, my cousin asked for a coffee with our dessert. He never received the coffee, but she charged him for it. When he brought it up, she offered to go get him some coffee then, but we were all ready to go, so he asked her if she could just take it off the check. She went back and forth with him about how she could go get it, but he just wanted it removed so we could pay and go because everyone had finished their desserts and didn't want to have to wait. She finally gave up and fixed the check but acted like we were an inconvenience. Food is decent, but our waitress needed a little bit of an attitude adjustment. read more

We came here for our 32 wedding anniversary. We arrived early so we went to the bar for a few drinks. Not a great whisky selection for a High end place. We had an old fashion and it was not balanced at all. We love the view of the water for sure. The dining area is a great view of the bay as well. For the food well. We had prime rib and it was very fatty. They do not offer mash potatoes so which is so weird to me. I would have ordered the Fillet but I am not able to eat it without Mash potatoes. Our visit to the Lighthouse Breakfast Spot offered a mixed bag of delights and disappointments. We sampled the Lighthouse Breakfast and the Lighthouse Benedict, opting to substitute bacon for the ham in the latter. The Benedict, served with a unique biscuit twist, left us with a mixed impression. While it certainly filled us up, we found the biscuit a tad dry, and the bacon portions were disappointingly scant - almost as if they were stretched thin. However, the flavors were passable. The Lighthouse Breakfast, featuring two perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, hearty potatoes, and Avenue Bread's sourdough toast, was a more satisfying experience. Though the bread proved a bit tough to chew, the eggs were spot on. Unfortunately, our bacon was missing initially, but upon notifying our waitress, they promptly rectified the oversight, even comping our cappuccino as a gesture of apology. Despite the hiccups, we would consider revisiting, primarily for the picturesque view and commendable service. However, we'd ensure to plan our visit at a leisurely pace, allowing ample time to savor the experience without any rush. We came in for Breakfast on a weekend a little before 10AM. The beautiful view, enhanced by the glass wall blocking any wind, added to the pleasant ambiance. It took a while in between visits from the waitresses to be served, but we were not in a rush and the view gave us something to do. Our waitresses were super friendly, professional, and accommodating. They both apologized for the delay when we first got our drink order in and another when food was brought out. We ordered a total of a Bloody Mary, Mimosa, and Cappuccino. The Bloody Mary, while nothing particularly unique, was satisfying. Adding some Tabasco sauce and lime gave it a little more flavor. My husband enjoyed his first-ever Cappuccino, and the Mimosa, served with a glass of champagne and orange juice on the side, was a delightful touch. read more

We hit this place up for both a birthday dinner and again for brunch the next morning. Very satisfied both times. It's a big dining room with lots of dark wood, walls of windows, and plenty of elbow room. Just how you picture a hotel restaurant at a nicer place, at least in my mind's eye. We scored a table in the corner with expansive salt water views, right next to a fireplace, and watched the boats come and go out of the marina next door. Drinks The wine list is really nice--lots of nice choices that won't break the bank, with a few fancy options thrown in. We had a great WA chardonnay and a Sonoma cab that really hit the spot. The martini wasn't really made as ordered, but the manhattan was perfect, and the vodka soda was alright. Steaks We hit the new york, the filet, and the bacon-wrapped new york. All cooked just as ordered, decent portion size, and nice accompaniments (carrots, potatoes, brussels, and so on). I had the pork chop, which was juicy and fantastic. My body A added a lobster tail to his steak. Great addition, though he didn't share bites. Appetizers Mushroom were great, mussels were incredibly well-picked for size and juiciness, and the octopus was unremarkable. Even the octopus was still a pretty little salad, it just didn't have much protein unless you count all the white bean puree. Desserts Frozen chocolate torte was a big hit with the birthday girl, and my apple cheesecake was great. Breakfasts Great mimosa, bloody, and good coffee and tea. The biscuits were awesome--in the biscuits and gravy (big hit), benedict, and with the omelette. The omelette wasn't huge but I stole bites from everyone else. Birthday girl loved her avocado toast. The benedict was good; they took peppers out of the potatoes on request and everything else was solid, except the hollandaise, which was kinda bland. Service was right on point and super-friendly and nice throughout both meals. Prices were fine. It was super luxurious to check in for a quick November stay, have dinner without dealing with the elements, and then do the same for breakfast. read more

For what you pay, food was OK. Prime Rib $62. You get to small square potatoes on the side. Plus, the amount is small. Also, the service was very slow. In the bar, we sat for 15 minutes before someone came over. Not to mention 2 servers just stood there talking behind the bar. Dining was no different. Located inside the Hotel Bellwether, but please don't let that dissuade you. The view is breathtaking anywhere you sit, but I was lucky to get a view of the marina and folks flying kites at the park across the water. Folks with kids found plenty of seating outside, spacious tables and booths seat two to six easily, but i hear there is a cellar dining room that can accommodate 12. Music is lovely lounge piano with selections ranging from jazz standards (think "the best is yet to come") to more contemporary Jackie was my server, attentive without being overbearing. She suggested am after dinner stroll outside to watch the sunset. Ben, the chef this evening, even made it to my table to say hello. The passion fruit cocktail is perfect, not too much rum, sweet or sour. Refreshing on a sunny day. Smoked mushroom appetizer is delicious, with local oyster mushrooms lightly pickled with balsamic on goat cheese whipped with honey and wrapped with caramelized onion. Flavor explosion!! PNW Halibut with polenta fritters, romanesco sauce, preserved lemon and a chili-garlic salad was the best halibut of my life. Firm and flaky halibut arrived perfectly cooked with a crisp exterior and delightfully seasoned leaving the meaty goodness of halibut to shine through. Preserved lemon sauce with roasted summer squash was the seasonal veggie, and is everything summer has to offer. Even the polenta fritters (more pan fried than deep fried) provided an outstanding accompaniment that was, well, summery! I couldn't eat another bite, so dessert will have to wait. The banana foster creme brulee comes highly recommended as well, but i just couldn't. read more

The sauce on my plate elevated every bite. There is a beautiful view of the bay and the windows have a the ability to be open to have a alfresco indoor dining. We had the crab cakes, seared Ahi tuna salad, and the 1/2 lb wagyu burger. Presentation was inviting, and we were pleased with our choices. Warm buttered bread accompanied the dinner. We are staying in Bow for Christmas and want to hit up as many seafood places as possible and this happened to be where we started. Fist things first it's a hotel restaurant but that shouldn't stop you from giving it a try, the views are by and far the best thing about this place but the food and the service were good as well. We got here at the perfect time, 3:45pm where we could order off the brunch menu till 4:00pm and the dinner menu after 4:00pm. The sun set behind the mountains around 4:00pm and the view was spectacular. Husband got the Crab Cake Benedict and I got a cup of Clam Chowder and the Halibut. All three were tasty but the chowder is some of the best you can find, unfortunately the halibut was ever so slightly on the overcooked side (I prefer over instead of under so it was ok) for $42 overcooked fish is a bit disappointing. Service was prompt and attentive, the only downside was I wish they had timed my food better, I was barely into my Clam Chowder when they handed me my Halibut and I was left with scarfing down the chowder so I could get to my halibut before it got cold. All and all, we'd come back and recommend this place most people. The views are great and we took a walk along the boardwalk when we were done. Knocked off a star for the timing on the courses and the slightly overcooked fish. read more

Excellent food and service. A bit pricier than other Bellingham establishments, but I've never had a bad meal or experience here. Lots of locally sourced food, thoughtfully prepared, with some of the best views in Bellingham. Today, Devon seated us and Kim was our server. They were both exceptionally friendly and helpful. Service in general was spot on. My sandwich today was out of this world good. It was served openface, and had pesto chicken, garlic aioli, roasted tomatoes, crisp bacon, avocado, provolone, arugula, and paprika atop a slice of rustic bread. Fantastic! Fries were great, and the tartar sauce was excellent. Iced tea is brewed in house. Cocktails here are VERY tasty. I'm a Bellingham native now living Seattle, and I always recommend the Lighthouse to friends going for a visit. Definitely one of Bellingham's Top Ten! read more

This place was to die for!! We did the preset $29 3-course meal and were shocked by the portions for such a cheap price! I started with the salad & got the shrimp scampi for my main. My mom got the chowder & the chicken (it was essentially a Marsala) for her main. I was u dee the impression my scampi was going to be pasta, as shrimp scampi is almost always shrimp over angel hair noodles, but instead they brought out of a bowl of shrimp in a lemon garlic sauce & a separate plate with some Brussel sprouts & mash potatoes. Not at all what I was expecting and a super odd way to serve it but it was delicious! We ordered some drinks too, and my moms chocolate martini was so good she had to get two! We'll be back soon! Not really a bad view in the house. We enjoyed a winter sunset over Bellingham Bay. Service was slow, particularly from the bar, but attentive. The fish and chips used sea bass in a light beer batter and it was great. Crème Brûlée for dessert was also excellent. Drinks were good. read more

Disappointing. Went for my bday meal. First time going. Lovely ambience, but the food was a different story. Starting with the tiny little pieces of bread. It's good, but the size of a sugar cube and only 3 for the 2 of us. Then there were the dirty glasses. One was a wine glass we weren't using. Had lip prints and wine stains, pretty sure it was left behind on the table. My old fashioned glass was dirty. I could feel the grime on my fingers when I picked up the glass. They were quick in replacing it. Then the over cooked burger and the pasty/undercooked fries. Oof. I try to be generous with reviews...but these mistakes at the prices they are charging are inexcusable. read more

Took a trip to Bellingham and stumbled upon Lighthouse. Server was super sweet and helpful. Everything we got, we loved. My boyfriend tried oysters for the first time and they were so delicious! We both got cups of their different soups. And then we split the crab melt. I had one of their rotating ciders in draft and he had their house white. We came in around 2pm and were the only ppl in so got to choose a table by the window. It was a rainy day but the view was still amazing. Favorite touch was that every table had fresh tulips on it! My husband and I came here for our anniversary on 10/11. The atmosphere was so comforting and nice, and the staff was equally incredible. To start, the drinks were absolutely amazing. My husband was definitely bummed that he had to drive, because the drinks were so delicious. We also got the charcuterie board which was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. The selections were just perfectly paired. For dinner, we each got steaks. I could not believe how perfectly cooked it was. It was tender, flavorful, and simply beautiful. Our server was also quick to help us pick a wine and so knowledgeable of pairings. For dessert, we had the most amazing pumpkin cheesecake I have ever had in my life. It was light, not too sweet, and perfectly baked. The minute I left there I was so upset that I didn't get more! It also was delicious with the pumpkin spice martini I got. Great food, decent service and a wonderful setting. We took a large group here for a graduation dinner celebration. There were 9 of us in our party. Service was pretty good but our waiter seemed a bit maxed-out in terms of handling the room (he had quite a few tables) and was slow coming back to our table to check on drinks. The food was delicious but a bit pricey for our expectations. We had selected this establishment based on Yelp's ratings and the $$ price icon - and because of the "bar and grill" aspect of their name, we assumed it would be $$ commensurate. However, most entre items were close to $40 a plate. That said, for the setting, service, and quality of the food, this pricing was reasonable. It just doesn't fit the "bar and grill" moniker and certainly not a $$ Yelp price designation. This is a nicer, high-end restaurant that is easily a $$$ and more realistically, a $$$$. We were not disappointed once we came to terms with the reality that we were going to be paying over $600 vs our initial expectation of about half that. read more
