Red rocks: Will never make a return visit!! Let me start by saying the establishment itself is great and aside from this particular incident about this particular individual that I'm writing this review for me and my friends did enjoy ourselves prior to. The Incident: So I'm on the third floor at the bar and we decide to go down to the second floor for a change of scenery as the place appeared to have 3 floors. This is my first time here and I needed to use the bathroom so on that floor I start walking around and then I come across a sign saying employee bathrooms on my left hand side so I assume the door to the right of that may be bathrooms for the general public like the ones available on the 3rd floor. I walk through the door and it leads outside to the rooftop so I realize that clearly isn't it and proceed back through the door I came. As I walk back to the bar and common area to head back upstairs (to the 3rd floor bathroom since I knew where that was) a heavy set bouncer with dreads approaches me and asks me where I'm coming from (really wish I knew the individual's name because I don't want to give the entire security team a bad rep as the others were extremely helpful during this incident). I initially politely explained that I was looking for a bathroom and didn't find it, ended up on the rooftop and came back in to head back upstairs. The guy says no that's $10 to go back upstairs. I then explain to the guy that I've been in here over 2 hours (got in around 10:50pm with a ticket so therefore it was free entry and the incident took place sometime around or after 12:30am) and that i was just trying to get to the bathroom. Again he says he needs $10 and that he hasn't seen me before inside the establishment (mind you this is a place with the lights low and hundreds of people going in and out) So again I explain my position that I've already been here and explain to him that I understand him doing his job and questioning people who seem suspicious due to the fact that I was coming from the direction of the employees bathroom earlier but that I could provide him several witnesses, my two other friends who were still on the upper floor that could vouch for me having already been in the bar hours before. And in using common sense it's unclear how I would have come Into the place from that door if i hadn't already been in there (maybe I scaled the building like Spider-Man?? Not sure of his logic here). Needless to say this particular guard or bouncer was unconvinced and my pleasant and calm demeanor then turned to being annoyed and frustrated as I started to feel like I was being profiled or at least not being treated with the same respect that the other attendees were receiving all because I was trying to use the bathroom and took a wrong turn. He began to raise his voice I did the same pleading the same point and that's when another helpful security member came and talked to me (someone who remembered me coming in as well) and says I'll talk to him and walks me back toward the direction where the other guard is. He vouches for me but this still wasn't enough and he proceeds to ask again for the $10. I'm still refusing to pay for a place that I've already been in and never left and at this point I'm so frustrated I want more witnesses to hear this situation so I began to explain my point loudly to other guests coming into the establishment so they can be aware of the mistreatment I had been receiving. The guard is frustrated so then I call my other two friends to come downstairs providing further witnesses to support my credibility with respect to already having been in the building however this still isn't enough to appease this particular bouncer. At this point I've already acknowledged this is just an ego issue and refusing to admit that you're wrong so by that point the bouncer who vouched for me led me downstairs to the first floor to cool off and then I decide to leave altogether because it wasn't even worth the treatment I was receiving. At that point I had already made my point and provided the people to support my claims one being a fellow staff member and that wasn't good enough. Needless to say I probably will never return to red rocks and that management may want to look into some sort of formal training or reprimand of this particular guard because I'm sure this isn't his first incident with mistreatment of guests or institute some sort of hand stamp or marker policy at the door to avoid any such incidents in the future if common sense won't be a factor in making such decisions about the whereabouts of guests in the establishment. read more

This is the best places to go to on H st. on a Saturday/Friday night. I was always a bit confused with the vibe of H st. when compared to other areas in DC. Ex: Dupont is for the preps, M st. for the clubbers, Adams Morgan for the young kids on the block or people who don't want to spend a lot of money, U st. is for the anything goes, have a good time crowd (My favorite in DC!). Yet, I still don't know where H st. fits in, and I guess that's perfectly fine because not every place needs an identity. Yet, RedRocks is definitely encouraging me to explore my own area - RedRocks is an extremely fun place where you can stuff your face, dance your booty off, and chill on the rooftop while sipping and chatting with friends. The crowd is diverse, the vibe is great, and venue is amazing! The RedRocks on H st. has three floors: the 1st floor has a restaurant with a bar, the 2nd floor is a dance floor with a DJ, and the third floor has also another dance floor with a different DJ (different music selections is a plus) plus a nice size rooftop patio to take in the H st. views. Everyone was having a good time and extremely friendly; however, the only negative is that bar is swamped! It takes about 15 minutes to get a drink - but that shows how much people go to RedRocks on Friday and Saturday night! Also, great music - when I went they had a Michael Jackson tribute going on. I came here specifically for a party that was advertised on Instagram. Upon getting here at approximately 11:45pm on a Saturday night there was a pretty long line. There wasn't any information being giving I just know the line was moving really slow. As we got closer to the front I noticed the security guard was letting a small amount of people in at a time. Maybe he was waiting for people to come out? I cant be too sure. Why I detracted stars is due to the fact they only had 1 security guard for such a long line. He was unable to properly execute crowd control by the door. That meant that people who did not wait in line for 1 hour were able to skip up to the front and mosey into the line. There was not even a rope/barrier to keep people from doing so. After you have been waiting a hour to get into an establishment that is not cool. Once inside I did appreciate it wasn't packed to capacity so there was plenty of space to move around and even sit if you needed to. We stayed mainly on the 2nd level. Attempted to get to roof and it was jam packed up there. Didn't seem like an ideal place to be. My drink that I ordered was pretty strong and I unfortunately didn't order in time to get food. Five stars for great music!!!! This little gem is a place I always forget about, but when I go I'm so happy that I went. I LOVE the music, and the music nerd (not hipster) scene. I can't wait for spring to enjoy the deck! What would really be nice is if we could add hookah to the mix outside!!! Who do I need to talk to to make this happen? This place is a fun environment to go when you are with friends! My friends and I went over Memorial Day weekend and it was fun! The music was great and the drinks were great! The only thing I will say that when it is packed with people, they need more waiters to even out the ratio. read more

I'm not sure what a place would have to display to get 5 stars but there is no particular reason I didn't give it 5. A couple of friends decided tot go on a Friday night and it was DJ Life and Ozker. I assume they were the DJ's that night. I'm going to ramble a bit on this review. The DJ's were great. Not sure who played what set but when we arrived around 10pm, they were playing the throw back 90's jams (702, biggie, total, Craig Mack, etc), the stuff I'M use to. I thought he was on point with that. Now when I first arrived I thought there would be a pat down or something, just your usual but once you walk through this curtain-esque front door, nobody was there to greet me or anything. I failed to mention there are three floors and they serve food so I would imagine if you had a party waiting on you and didn't have your phone (who does that nowadays), you would have a nice search ahead of you. But back to ym train of thought, It was good to not get my fit' ruined before I enter a lounge though but at the same time, we had to LOOK like we knew where we were going. But it was all good and not too hard to navigate. I didn't see an immediate coat check as well (in the winter :-/). There was a free coat rack on the second floor (unwatched) so it was at your own risk. Other than that the ambiance was great. The first floor is a bar with seating, nice for a date and cool talking area but you can still hear the music. The second level is where my party was. There seemed to be an immediate restaurant seating area to your immediate left up the stairs and then the party room with a large window overlooking outstairs. Great ambiance! The music was just loud enough for a lounge. Although the place was not packed at all this night, it was still a good time. Not sure if there was a happy hour but if it was, we did not partake. I order two drAnks and it was around $23 (if I recall). A bit much being that we didn't order top shelf stuff, just bicardi and some dark liquor. But its DC so its all good. Bartender was cool and attentive so I can;t complain, again it wasn;t packed this night. I ventured upstairs and there was another bar and an outside patio portion that was under construction of some type. Seemed really nice and I wouldn't mind going back to party on the top floor. Overall, this is a great place and I would love to visit on one of its packed nights. Go with a group and enjoy yourself. read more

The food was awesome. The music was great. A local spot to hang out and enjoy the weather, especially the rooftop. What ruined the whole experience was the service we received. The bartenders on the rooftop must have been having the worst day of their week...because it came across in the lack of service and laissez-faire attitude. I mean really...I do want to order a drink that is if you would take my order. After waiting 12 minutes, and watching the bartender collect dirty glasses rather than take my order, yea just give me my check. Ugh. And the manager wasn't too helpful either. Make a friend with a good bartender (Chris is cool)...avoid the meanies. read more

Excellent place on H st for music, drinks, and pizza. It's my favorite place on H St to go for a drink. Friendly staff and an outdoor rooftop area with open smoking. And the bartender Sunny makes very strong and tasty drinks! read more

This place has a pretty nice selection of beer and other beverages, the food is great I love the pizzas and reasonable prices too. The bartenders are awesome along with Dj's, plenty of space when you walk upstairs. Fun location but difficult when traveling there. read more

Pizza? Good. Drinks? Good. DJ? AWESOME. Customer service? Meh... I ordered a drink and a pizza at the rooftop bar. As soon as I ordered, a stool cleared so I copped a squat there. VERY shortly after I ordered, a tray came up with a ton of food and a pizza. The food went to four guys who I didn't even see order (not to mention I took about 5 minutes looking over the menu), so I was sure it couldn't be mine. The pizza remained on the bar. People ordered their drinks over it, people paid for their drinks over it, one drunk guy motioned like he was gonna dive into the pizza. Finally one guy said out loud that he wanted to grab "that one meatball right there" out loud which made me realize that it was my pizza. I order another drink and tell the bartender that I think that's my pizza that I wasn't given. He reads the ticket, says my name and gives me the pizza. I asked for a fresh one, something without a side of Mononucleosis. Says they can't re-order the pizza, I should have stayed at the bar. I respond that I never left my seat. Then he says I should have been watching. Watching??? Why don't I just go downstairs and pull it out the oven? The woman sitting next to me, who I didn't know, was more upset than I was. I just went downstairs and spoke with the manager. Instead of putting in an order for a new pizza, the manager takes me back upstairs to get the other pizza and ask what was wrong with it. I told him it was sitting on an outdoor bar for 15 minutes, 20-25 by then. He says he cam warm it. I say no, drunk people have ordered beer over it. I want a new one. he takes me back downstairs, puts a new order in and says it will be brought up. I decline eating it upstairs, telling him I'll eat at the first floor bar; there was less traffic. The pizza comes out, it's pepperoni, I ordered meatball. I tell the runner I ordered a meatball pizza and she alerts the manager. He pauses like it was my fault I got a pepperoni instead of meatball pizza. By that time, it was 12am and I realize I hadn't eaten since lunch. I tell him I'll eat the pepperoni. He says thanks, that the pepperoni is still a good choice and that he'll take it off my bill but I still had to close my tab upstairs. The pizza was really good (but NOT what I ordered). By then I was totally out of the drinking mood but started seeing people I knew, so I stayed a while longer. When I finally go to close my tab, not only is the pizza still there, it's the more expensive meatball pizza. I was so tired of climbing the stairs and dealing with employees/management that I paid the tab. I won't be back. I didn't ask for a new prime rib or lobster tail, I asked for a new pizza because of THEIR mistake. A little wheat, a little cheese and a meatball, at wholesale $2.00 tops. I don't know why all of this was such an ordeal with so many steps, literally and figuratively. I'm probably one of the most easygoing and easy to please people on earth, I would have overlooked the forgotten pizza with no problem. What could have been a near $100+ tip tab stopped at twenty something without tip and a vow not to come back. read more
