I heard this was a H St staple, so I had to check it out. Really like the small, personal chill vibes. The cashier/server was cool and very helpful. Great variety on the menu with a mix of savory and sweet pies. We went with the Smog and Spinach and Goat cheese Quiche with an apple pie for dessert. Presentation-wise, everything was cooked well. I wasn't a huge fan of the Smog crust, but I will never judge a place solely on one thing. Looking forward to trying something different next time, but I would recommend it.

What a little gem! When we first entered, we were a little apprehensive because it was a complete ghost town and it did not have a cozy bakery feel like we were imagining. We ordered a selection of pies to share: checkerboard, key lime, berry, and Berger cookie. Key lime was hands down my favorite, but the Berger was interesting since it's a local cookie (but on top of more of a custard filling). The slices of pie were bigger than we expected (we wouldn't have ordered as many but the employee tried to show us the size with her hands and the slice didn't seem very large based on her measurement), but we indulged! Would definitely come back here in the future (or order a whole pie to go for a special occasion).

I'm disappointed with the pancake to blueberry ratio. I think the fruit of a fruit pie in the most important aspect. The blueberries were all towards the crust so I found myself eating it in an odd way. More blueberries is my tip! Ice cream was yummy!

Cool little pie shop. Simara (sp?, counter person) was helpful and pretty cool. Savory pies were good, pulled pork was the preferred choice. It was like eating bbq pork rib smokey goodness. The spinach gruyere quiche was fluffy and light. IMO, the Gruyère cheese didn't come through very strongly. We also had the SMOG (steak, mushrooms, onions and gruyere). The smog was good, but compared to pulled pork it was subdued. Again, the Gruyere didn't come through as much as I'd like. We ordered 2 sweet pie slices, key lime and coconut sweet potato pie. KL was nicely sweet (maybe a little too sweet IMO) and tart. The graham crust was nicely done and not soggy as many KL pies I've had over the years. The texture of the KL filling was firm and not overly dense. I'd order it again and eat it with a hot strong black coffee I was struggling to choose between the Chocolate Pecan and Coconut Sweet Potato pie, looking for something less sweet than the KL for our second slice. Simara suggested CSP pie beside it was less sweet and not always something they make.. It wasn't too sweet and the coconut came through very subtly. Both in the taste and texture. I ordered an iced coffee to go along with the pies, and let's face it, it was a pretty warm afternoon and my pie search was a little out of our way. So I was feeling warm. I drink my coffee black, though they offered cream and agave syrup. The iced coffee was strong and quite good. Often iced coffees are overly diluted. So that was big plus and I received a free refill. So the Pie Shop is off the beaten track for most tourists. The neighborhood is very local. Don't expect a clean scrubbed National Mall or financial district feel to it. The neighborhood is urban and somewhat gritty. The PS also features live music, when we arrived (Sunday late afternoon) it was quiet, but the music started up as we were leaving. Look at the list of performances, they may or may not be to your taste. At the PS, you order at the counter, and in our case S brought our slices to our table (you seat yourself). The inside of the shop has a worn local feel, expect a very casual space with worn dark wood and inexpensive chairs and furnishings. It's small and can't seat many people. As of this writing the savory pie slices run around $12, while the sweet pie slices are around $9. Would I go back again? Yes, I liked the pies and wanted to try more. I'd recommend going earlier in the day to get the best selection of pies. We also came on graduation weekend, meaning there were a lot of pies ordered and picked up, so they sold out of many of their pies. The PS does a brisk takeout/togo business too.

When I came in I was torn a out which pie to get because they have so many options. What looked the most appealing were the Peanut Butter Nutter and Key Lime pies. The nice worker behind the counter told me that their pies are made fresh every night before the store opens. It's actually a 24 hour operation here. Obviously I couldn't try them all and in the end I went for the Banana Toffee pie and we can't wait to try it out later. This pie doesn't seem to be loaded with so much sugar and calories that could keep my kids up all night. The gentleman suggested that I check out their website to see all of their options, since they change their pie pin-up on a daily basis. What a cool pie shop!

I ordered the Berger cookie pie, which was like a mix of custard and chocolate in a crumble pie. A first for me, the pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream provided a solid dessert while I strolled through H Street.

After finding this spot on UberEats and being tired of paying the delivering fees, I finally decided to go and pick up my order (which you can place online from Toast app). Parking is a hit or miss (well makes sense since it's located on H street). The establishment had a unique vibe and was very clean. The staff were nice and helpful, not too much interaction. CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE (WARMED) OMGGGGGG if you're a chocolate lover, this a dessert heavenly slice on another level. Super delicious, rich, decadent and tasty. Love at every bite I promise and worth the drive. To make matters worse, I was paying almost double on UberEats which I won't be doing anymore. I'm definitely coming back for my sweet tooth fix.

I ordered 2 spices of the Salted Caramel French Toast Pie via UberEats. With taxes and tip, the total was $30. Look at this!!! This is hardly worth $10!!! NEVER AGAIN!!! And to add insult to injury, it wasn't even good!!! No crisp to it whatsoever!!! Just a soggy mess!!!

Love this place, minus the very loud rock music from upstairs. Sweet and savory pies are all delicious. I got the tofu curry pie and we got the berger cookie pie to share. We also brought friends here and got french toast, pecan, and strawberry rhubarb pie. Slices are huge in my opinion and the pies hit the spot!

Came to watch a friend perform and had a really great time. This is such a unique local experience that's ideal for music lovers. I watched a show, checked out the bands merchandise, made new friends outside, and topped off my night with a yummy piece of pie!

Cozy little place, really don't see how anyone can complain. Saw guardin here in 2019 and have been coming ever since. It's got a laidback vibe that a lot of music venues lack and the pie available downstairs is just a bonus.

Everything is tastier when it looks good and is bite sized and this my friend is a check, check and a check! The owner elevates tarts into one sophisticated bite using seasonal ingredients and beautiful flourishes like sprinkled covered marshmallows or edible flowers. If sugar ain't your thing you can check out their savory flavors as well -- sweet potato hummus? Yes please! The crust is hearty and the perfect foil to the sweet, sweet insides. Perfect for cocktail parties and they take orders online so you never have to talk to a human person (sorry, I'm an anti social hobbit who just wants to live on tarts). Black Pearl recently provided red wine and fruit compote tarts topped with sweet goat cheese and…read morepoached pears for an event I attended. I was stunned. It's actually worth talking about their appearance before I get to the experience of eating them: On the table, their products look elegant--striking without being intrusive or gaudy. They set a great mood. These are some of the best-presenting tarts I've ever seen. I can't vouch for their full line of products, as the only tart on offer was the Mulled Fruit & Goat Cheese, but it was shockingly well-thought-out: Every texture at play in the tart--firm, crumbly shell; jammy compote; smooth sweet cheese; crisp poached pears--kept its distinct profile throughout the evening. Coming to them later in the night didn't result in a soggy crust, limp fruit or runny compote, and the textures recombining in your mouth were a delight. Of course texture doesn't mean much if it isn't backed up by flavor, and so I saved the best for last. As I mentioned above, it's obvious that everything about this dessert was carefully considered, and considered with excellent judgment, at that. Every element was in balance, announcing itself clearly on the tongue without overwhelming the other notes: The mild cookie-ness of the crust, the deep mulled wine in the compote, the sweet tang of the goat cheese--this was a joy to eat. Full disclosure: Black Pearl is operated by Christina Marie. I do know Christina personally--we have a number of close mutual friends, though I don't know her terribly well. I'm writing this review because Black Pearl is a local start-up whose food really impressed me, not as a personal favor to someone I know.

Our donut was light and fluffy, with a creme infused with real banana. You can tell that they are being thoughtful on their approach to artisanal donuts, and it really shows up in how they elevate this classic dessert. Its rare to find donuts that balance complex flavors, sweetness level, and good crumb but all of those things are what make it distinct fom others, especially chain restaurant donuts. Of course, these are probably made the day of and ours was a large and substantial size. Its definitely a treat-yourself type of moment to commit to the price point, but we weren't disappointed. My take on high‑price‑point food in Union Market is simple: that's exactly where you'll find it. Providencia has been on my to-try list forever, originally recommended by a bartender friend ages ago, and it wasn't until a recent trip that I finally was able to work it into my schedule to come for pre-dinner drinks and light bites. The spot is tucked away in a back alley off H Street, and honestly I'm not sure I would've found it if my Uber hadn't dropped me at the door. Reservations are required and you have to put down a $10 nonrefundable deposit that goes toward your bill, which makes sense because the space is small. Ideal for 1-3 people, not a group spot. The Salvadoran/Taiwanese flavor combo infused throughout this menu is its calling card. It's such a unique flavor combination and genuinely something I haven't seen before, and the menu does a beautiful job of letting both cuisines shine without one overpowering the other. The drinks are inventive but actually well-balanced, and the food does the same thing in small, snack-y portions perfect for pairing with tasty cocktails. My (kind of indulgent, but well-worth it) pre-dinner drinks order: - Lights of the Night Market (Ford's gin, Mal Bien mezcal, genepy, pandan, coconut). A great intro to how well the Salvadoran/Taiwanese flavors play together. The pandan is so pleasant here without being overpowering. - Run Bing with Nai Nai (Salvadoran white rum, Nardini rabarbaro, Licor 43, mazapán, oolong tea, lemon, milk, served with a little mazapán candy on the side). Nutty, beautifully balanced, sweeter than I normally go for but so unique and well-made that I didn't mind it at all. - The Big Chip and Salsa (tomatillo salsa, matcha chip): So fun and so tasty, a great small bite if you don't want real food. - Roasted eggplant pupusa (eggplant, squash blossom, gruyère, tomatillo). SO delicious. A really lovely mix of salty, tangy, and sweet! I'd come back just for this. - Plantain & hojicha tiramisu. Looked like a work of art, incredibly tasty but not heavy. The hojicha flavor is lovely and light and works so well with the plantain. It doesn't taste overly banana-y, which is always a worry of mine with plantain desserts. Overall, Providencia is doing something genuinely different flavor-wise than any other cocktail bar in DC right now and doing it extremely well. The cocktails are creative without feeling gimmicky, the food is thoughtful and delicious, and the whole experience feels intimate, cozy, laid back, and personable. The staff was so kind and helpful.
