I read great reviews so I thought I would stop in after work and take a few dinner selections home. I ordered the Pork Ragu Gnocci, The Chef Special Beef Brisket and the Pistachio crusted Cobia . The brisket was very dry and very tough the sides were small and bland. So I thought I would taste the Cobia, The Cobia was also dry and tough with no pistachio crust it came with a small piece of tomato that had a few pistachio sprinkles?? The Pork Ragu was very tasty since by now I am very hungry. However, all carry out containers were a brown paper box. Who puts pasta and sauce in a paper box?? Just left was treated horribly !! There were only two occupied tables inside and 1 table of 2 outside. Asked for a table of 2 outside, was given very last table in front of the mattress store. I went in to ask if we could sit at a different table and the hostess said sit wherever you want and rolled her eyes - so we moved to the table by the door - we then waited 9 minutes and still no server. The other meat dishes were full of fat, I showed the waiter, he took the dish and brought back an even fattier piece of meat, trust me you could not eat this. Finally one MAJOR score for the foodies! Naples is inundated with high quality and presentation driven cuisine. Naples is over saturated with over complicated, uninspired, and many times tasteless cuisine. Now enter this hidden gem "The Local". I had been to a few farm to table restaurants in my travels (mostly in California's wine country). Let me tell you once you have a true farm to table dining experience it can make you a bit of a food snob. And given that we (my foodie girlfriend and I) were more then blown away once we saw that "The Local" was a true farm to table concept. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 7PM and were greeted immediately, quickly sat, and served organic fresh vegetables with white bean purée (all this happened in less than two minutes). The menu was like something out of your wildest dreams; top notch produce, locally caught seafood, grass fed beef, gluten free options (a lot of gluten free options), vegan options, an amazing wine list, craft beer, and much more you will have to see when you choose to dine at this hidden gem of a restaurant. My girlfriend even mentioned how it didn't feel like we were inside of a strip mall be cause the decor and floor plan was so brilliantly constructed. On to the food! We shared a cup of Red Lentil soup which was flavorful and left room for the salt & pepper. She ordered an appetizer as an entree the Snapper Ceviche Tacos and I ordered our waiter John's recommendation of the Pot Roast. Our food came out in a very reasonable time and with very nice presentation. One bite of my dish and BOOM I had found the source of the most amazing food I have ever tasted anywhere in Southwest Florida. We asked for hot sauce and to our surprise they have sauce made fresh in house. They even had a mild, medium, and hot version. The gentleman who brought us the hot sauce (I believe his name was Jeff) was surprisingly knowledgable on the ingredients of the hot sauce, and let me tell you the hot sauce was like putting unicorn tears on an already amazing dish. This place is absolute dynamite! John our server was knowledgable, attentive, and sincere. The entire dining experience was intimate. The music isn't too loud. The seating is comfortable. I wondered last time if steady improvement would come to a great idea with execution that left all of us hungry. I am thrilled that our recent dining experiences show marked improvement. The daily dinner vegan special was wonderfully vibrant; the nutty grain and quinoa stuffing was to die for. It was stuffed in squash halves that remind me what the fall harvest is all about. My wife asked for a grilled veggie plate that was a unique presentation of fresh greens, seasonal veggies and assorted onion varieties. The service was excellent, personal, warm and caring, without being obtrusive. Why no 5 star? I will wait until I have a lot more nights like this, but I am planning on it. read more

Searching for a new place to eat lunch, after reviewing menus online, we landed at The Local. Unfortunately it was a crash landing. It was obvious the place was understaffed as our waitress was not attentive and almost nonexistent. I guess this is just a sign of the times we live in. Be aware! The greens used in my salad had a very strong earthy taste. I was told it was Arugula and fresh from the farm. I'm not a farmer, however I eat a lot of salads many with Arugula. This was different than what I am use to. I could not eat the greens in my salad. The restroom trash cans were overflowing. Another sign of being understaffed. read more

Over rated & overpriced with awful service :( I really wanted to like this place but didn't at all! Our server couldn't explain anything on the menu. It was 4:15 on Saturday and I couldn't order the Watermelon Gazpacho because it was the dinner soup - yet the people seated 15 min after us ordered it bc it was then dinner time. WTF? I ordered a sandwich on glutenfree bread which I found out 10 min later they were out of, so I had to order something else. The fish tacos I ended up with were bland with no spice whatsoever and no salsa to be found. The large size quinoa salad was as big as the side salad that came with the fish tacos - an extremely small serving for $12. The $12 kids meal was 4 medium-sized grilled shrimp with 3 pieces of roasted potato and 5 bite-sized pieces of carrot. My kids were done eating before I even got any food. I must have eaten at another place. Felt ripped off and hungry when we left. Turkey sandwich fell apart, had the cheapest smallest bun possible, turkey was decent. That's the one star. The "salad" was large pieces of lettuce dumped on a plate, not one other thing in it, only one option for dressing. My companion's meal was not good at all. My meal was $16. Going home to eat. And the young girl cleaning tables was putting the napkins wrapped around utensils on the filthy seats while changing tables. I wanted to barf! Waitress was saving grace. Second star. The Local is a good place where you can find redemption for your palate and finally make your body proud of what you just ate. Its location exists in a land of demon drive-thrus and corporate grease, so when you find this diamond in the rough, your belly will thank you. I've only been to The Local a few times, and the concept of local/organic is quite appealing to most. With trendy contemporary flair (and not in the button on suspenders form), it's a nice stride away from the whole Naples-esque Italian vibe that comes from most restaurants. I love the place for the beautiful natural light. Although it's along a strip mall, you feel transported into your little niche of you and just your pretty-looking food. They have a bar fully stocked with some interesting wines you can pair your food with, and plenty of chalkboard space to keep your head in the clouds to know what kinds of things you can enjoy while you're there. Although I remember the food being a little on the pricey side, you get some bang for your buck in the quality of ingredients they put out. My last meal there was a lamb kibbeh burger with a side of lightly dressed arugula, and I also sampled my husband's quinoa and corn side. They dress and season where they need to, but the ingredients themselves seem to have been the highlight for me. It's nice to see a colorful plate of beautiful vibrant colors and textures. The lamb burger was quite substantial, but it was served on a nice pita without all that bun nonsense. It worked, and it wasn't heavy. And I liked it. A lot. As some of you know, I'm a quinoa lover, but I usually have it with kale and goat cheese. They served the quinoa and corn mixture cold, and although I typically like my quinoa warm, it took on a whole new life with fresh sweet corn. I would have thought more about giving this place 5 stars, but I remember the customer service seemed a little off to me. From what I can recall, I felt like the timing was off for lunch, and our server was in her own little world. All in all, I wasn't in a rush, and it was nice to do a little people-watching and Yelping while we were there. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely. Have now been to The Local several times and they simply CRUSH IT! They are not pretentious but have a simple elegance that delivers every time and I love it. Outstanding food prep and execution. Menu and quality of each item is capable of bringing you back to be satiated multiple times per week without being bored. Front of house and wait staff are well versed, know the menu and more importantly how to manage the dinner to meet / exceed expectations. The location simply can't compete with Tulia or Campiello's (I love them both dearly) but I would put The Local up against them on a blind taste off and survey on quality of service! I would actually rate the server at a 3 1/2, but the food was awful. Walking in we waited about 3 minutes before even being acknowledged and we were so excited to try a healthy local driven restaurant. My husband had the burger with egg and I'm not kidding you I've had meatloaf that stayed together better than the patty. It was a sloppy mess and old meat, the hash brown patty that was on top was I'm 98% microwaved because it had the texture of shoe rubber. My kids ordered a pizza and mac and cheese, this was the best part of the food. Pizza was very reminiscent of a cafeteria in a public school with no seasoning and the mac and cheese was broken, but not bad on flavor. I ordered the fish tacos that were probably also microwaved because each bite took me about 5 minutes to chew. There were also baby tomatoes sliced in half on top, which was weird for me. The wine menu was on the table, which listed no beer (my husband noticed they offered beer on the way to the restroom and ordered one) and I a mimosa. I guess dining on a Wednesday afternoon means old champagne from the previous Sunday because the juice was straight out of a carton and champagne was beyond flat. Upon getting ready to leave the manager or owner came right by with cleaning solution and acknowledged no one and when we left no staff member cared enough to say anything. I'm very disappointed in our visit to The Local, especially because of the birthday we were celebrating and all the great reviews that I was expecting to experience. I made a reservation for 11 for my husband's 40th birthday. The person who made the reservation was very helpful and even asked if there was an occasion that we were celebrating. That was the only great part of our experience. After being seated, we waited for about 10 minutes before the server showed up and she asks the whole group "is everyone good with water"? Ummm, no. She proceeds to get drink orders from half of our group and never even spoke to the rest of the group. I had to walk to the bar and give her the rest of our orders. Everything (apps, salads, bread, entrees, drinks) was slow to come out - even with runners. Most of the food was good but nothing to write home about. We sat for at least 20 minutes after finishing, waiting on checks, boxes, someone to ask about dessert. We were celebrating a birthday, wanted some dessert but were so fed up with waiting, everyone just wanted to leave. Half of our group got boxes, the rest of us had to flag someone down to get them. We did express our frustration to the owner or maybe another server (not really sure) and he just apologized and said he wished we would have told him sooner. No offer to comp and wanted us to come in again for a discount. We won't be back and neither will the locals that were with us. We were told they are not understaffed - so there is no excuse for poor service on a Saturday night, with a reservation and a special occasion. I went to the local with a friend recently. The ambience is nice and it has a very open feel. It was not very busy because it was out of season and we probably were not there during their dinner rush. They pride themselves on only serving wine and beer, and they are very creative in trying to make cocktails which taste like they have liquor in them but actually don't. I ordered the margarita, which had no tequila in it, only wine. When I tried, I could taste the difference, but it was still a decent drink. I ordered the carbonara with chicken. There was an egg on top, which was a nice touch, but it was a little dry and needed more cheese. I ordered the crack pie for dessert, which was basically like a small pie made out of melted caramel. Then I asked what people order in the pasta section and the server narrowed it down to four popular pastas. When looking for a place to have dinner with a gluten free friend, the Local seemed to have the best marks in Naples. Now I understand why! We were the only people on a Saturday evening at 5:00 PM, and we enjoyed the entire meal so much. We were immediately brought a crudite platter of vegetables and hummus while we were browsing the menu. I settled on the early dining menu (4 pm to 6 pm). For only $18.95, I got a Kale Caesar Salad, Key West Pink Shrimp Scampi Pizza, and a Brownie that was gluten free but had nuts and coconut. The salad was very yummy, and it really hit the spot. The pizza had lots of shrimp, and I ate it for two more meals. The combination was just right, although it was more of a flatbread than a pizza. The only thing I didn't love was the brownie. You don't get to pick your dessert on this menu, and I really dislike coconut. I ate it anyway, but it was not my favorite. Although, it was great that they made it gluten free so my friend could have some! The customer service was good, and they went above and beyond to provide me with a receipt when I realized I didn't take a copy with me. It was emailed to me within hours of asking.
