Had lunch outside today. First time to The Local. Moderately priced cocktails $7.50 for my Bloody Mary & her Back Porch Lemonade. The drinks were good! The atmosphere very nice/pleasant. Service was pretty slow (but if you have an hour for lunch), I guess ok. The food was a let-down, at least for what we ordered. I got the 'special', a turkey Rueben. It tasted nothing like a Reuben. Basically hot turkey breast with cooked red cabbage on Rye. She ordered a Veggie Wrap, with a very odd twist. Hummus dominated her creation? $15 for the Reuben & $11 for the Wrap. Extensive Gluten Free Menu-except pizza if you are celiac. Went with my celiac daughter for lunch after the Revs Institute. She ordered the pasta carbonara. Instead of spaghetti they used a tubular pasta such as rigatoni. Served with a egg yolk in the center. It was good. I had I believe the Keto steak. It was a decent sized skirt steak with two sides and sliced avocado (very fresh). For my sides I chose the corn with jalapeno and the potatoes which came in a square as though they were put into a mold. Those were delicious and I don't even like potatotes. The steak was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Service was very good. Since I got the steak gluten free for an allergy my daughter was able to share it with me. She liked it which is saying a lot as she generally doesn't like meat. She loved the potatoes! Only gripe was the price of the carbonara. I think with the $2 up charge for gluten free it was around $25 plus tax and tip. That seems really high for pasta, a couple of eggs and either bacon or guanciale. First off, our waiter Kyle was great. Knew all the dishes, offered great suggestions and paced the meal perfectly. The menu and items was eclectic and we were nervous that the food would not live up but it did not disappoint. Cute place with great decor. Very, very slow service. I could hear our waitress constantly chatting in the kitchen as we sat out front with empty glasses. She was completely clueless as to how frustrated we were. I asked for someone to get our server on 3 different occasions and she always had to be retrieved from the kitchen . For the bill, I asked the bartender and she got our waitress for us, then the bill was wrong. It included an entree we didn't order. Again,our waitress is nowhere to be found so we had to ask someone else to fix it for us. Portions very small. I do understand locally sourced food is more expensive, however, the food items seem to be $3-$7 overpriced. Maybe if our service had been better but it's the worst we've had since being in Naples. Served in what to me was a shot glass with about 6 slices of some very good bread. ThE bone in pork chop posted as grass fed. The waiter said they serve the chop without trimming the fat to get max flavor. But I never thought the fat would be 3/4 of the meal. It was silly. 12oz pork chop was 9 oz of fat. We were in Naples to celebrate a 50th birthday. The restaurant was recommended for the great food. We made reservations weeks in advance. Arrived on time and were treated rather dismissively. The restaurant was nearly empty. Our server was Kathy. Abrupt and rude. She was condescending to all questions and gave us our check before we were asked . We never sang Happy birthday with dessert Since we were never offered any. No matter how good the food is the servers can ruin your night, and it was! Very hot temperature in the restaurant I noticed at first. All food was delicious except we waited way too long considering we were one of two tables seated in the whole place. We finally tried this place tonight- blackened fish tacos were disgusting. Fishy and tasteless all you could taste was fish. Not like yum I've been craving fish for so long fish taste, like nasty fishy disgusting fish taste. The kind of smell that people cringe at- in your mouth. We also got the Kung Pao Avacado and it was definitely tastier than the tacos but was extremely salty. I'm sad that I'm so let down. Not worth the money and not tasty. What a refreshing change from the usual dining experience at most SW Fla restaurants during Spring Break! First, the hostess couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. The wait staff was also very friendly and attentive, and definitely not pushy and agitated like most come off during this time of year. The food was outstanding: salmon special was perfectly cooked and the right temperature. You can tell they're serious about local, fresh, clean ingredients. Everything is ala carte and portions are the right size, not like the typical American mound of food. Would recommend a side of broccolini (enough for 2-3 people), but the side brussels sprouts could be better, if they'd chop off the hard ends before roasting. The only other suggestion I would have for the restaurant is to maybe direct the food pick-up traffic to another area of the parking lot. It got a little dicey every time a driver pulled up, as the outdoor tables are along the front sidewalk in front of the parking lot. All it would take is for one unaware driver to hit the wrong pedal and take out the entire clientele. It was a little nerve-wracking. read more

I am really surprised, such a good restaurant, and i guess it is only known by locals. Food was delicious, and service very good, they helped me to find the right meal. The farm plate was a combination of four vegetable sites which changes occasionally and tasted very good. But the best are the backed potatoes with cheese on top. We love this restaurant but we came for Brunch on a Sunday and will never do that again. Go on a Sunday, and be prepared for a bunch of kids as the waiters. The one girl messed up all the orders and neglected us the whole time. The food which is usually delicious was not edible and a three hour brunch due to neglect and being ignored is what you are in for. We will return but Brunch here was a miserable experience. They even advertise bottomless Momosas and Bloody Mary's but it's a gimmick because when you are ignored and nurse two drinks in two hours ... yeah then those " bottomless" aren't so bottomless. I'm an omnivore with no celiac disorder so gluten free means nothing to me, but many dishes are offered gluten free or not. So let's get to the goodies. No bread when you sit down. Instead you are given veggies and a plate of white bean dip. Very tasty. My grass fed, drug free filet mignon was perfect. Grass fed beef trades some tenderness for a whole bunch of flavor, well worth it. As for antibiotics and hormones, any drugs I want I'll take myself thank you. The broccoli side dish was crispy and delicious and the Asian style spinach had a little bite to it that enriched the experience. the whole thing was from local farms. The pan seared snapper with lemon and parsley was flavorful. The sweet potato pancake was fresh and well prepared. Our third party is a vegan so she hit the vegan side having the sweet potato pancakes and Asian style spinach side dishes as her dinner, although she was tempted by the vegan specials. She just doesn't eat much, making her a cheap date, and she took home leftover spinach. The portions are human, and the prices are reasonable. The three of us dined in style for just over $100. Went to lunch here. They were out of the Cubano, so we split the turkey sandwich and the lamb burger. Both are delicious. Next time I'll ask for more tzatziki sauce for the lamb burger. It's that good. The tomato relish on the turkey sandwich was excellent. Chips were tasty but could do with a bit more sauce. Overall an excellent experience. read more

The type of resto where you will be quietly serenaded by an acoustic version of some Avicii jam whilst noshing on a spinach/cashew/cabbage/mango salad or a nice lil piece of grilled local snapper - a fine, casual neighborhood place (if, it should be noted, your neighb happens to be a strip mall with a Toys R Us, not one but TWO mattress stores, and a Subway - Florida at her best) - certainly not chi-chi, food will be largely tasty but nothing extraordinary. Strolled in on a rainy weeknight at 730p, most of the tables full, though as the place emptied out after we arrived, it was clear that we had caught the end of the early din shift - started with the carrot/fennel soup and the aforementioned salad - which honestly I thought was kind of weird (dressing overly pungent, mango an unneeded partner in crime - a vision without cohesion) - but for $6, it did the fiber trick, so yolo, which yes, I'm still using. Other first course options included heirloom tomatoes with bleu cheese, watermelon/feta/red pepper, roasted beet/arugula/goat cheese/wild rice, as well as snapper ceviche tacos and red curry clams - and if you're feeling frisky, I suppose one of the flatbreads could be split as well (veggies/pesto/ricotta/white truffle oil; clam/shrimp/ricotta/manchego; Greek chicken pizza, etc), though I make no promises. For mains, if you're into homemade pasta and not the daughter of a father who was an early-nineties Atkins enthusiast and maybe instilled in you a belief that "carbs will not fill you up", try the capellini w clams/herbs, lamb stroganoff, or chicken/gorgonzola fettucini - our neighbors all had and swooned. Team N all chose to power up with some of the local catches (snapper, amberjack, cobia) - in each instance, the fish was quite lovely - the cobia delicate yet meaty, the amberjack firm and hearty, the snapper crispy, sweet - but the veggie sides were largely an afterthought - my ratatouille decent but luke warm and the spaghetti squash w kalamatas was just straight up weird as eff - the blackened fingerlings dried out to the point of being largely unpalatable. If you're more of a land-lubber, there's mustard chicken w a soft boiled egg/pecorino sauce, pork chop w spelt, braised kale, and pancetta, or pot roast w veg - and for everyone's fave vegan grandchild, there's even a kung pao panko-crusted avo w brown rice, bell pepper, onion, cilantro as well as a "local farm plate" - which I gather is all of the veg sides aside from the greens w bacon. Mains were enjoyed - the fish was well cooked, though not bursting with flavor - but the menu promises more tastiness than it delivers. All that said, I will note, that ice cream, man - unreal - and if I didn't have my usual post-lactose tum ache now, I'd swear up and down that it was made of ethereal scoops of heaven rather than a gift from our bovine friends. Made in house, pillowy texture more akin to gelato than ice cream - cool but not cold - rich but not gut-busting. I'd like that shizz on tap in my house. My spandex, on the other hand, probs would appreciate that less. Service was fine but certainly JV - slow to greet, MIA during the meal, decaf forgotten - sweet kid, but not ready for the big leagues until my water glass never runs dry. Soups $4-8, salads $6-14, apps/flatbreads $14-19, pastas $19-25, mains $24-29. Wine list decent ($9-16.5 by the glass), also home to a plethora of local beers - depending on your hunger level, din can be done for $30/pp, though it'll probably be at least $40 a head - in short, menu a bit confused - I wouldn't take anyone here to WOW them w the Naples dining scene as it's inconsistent - but overall, a nice weeknight staple. read more

Probably my favorite place in Naples, not in a very visually appealing spot, but 100% worth it. I've been here several times and absolutely loved everything I have tried. The chicken salad w line and feta is one of my favorites. They have amazing gluten free sweets, and the little shot glasses of chocolate and peanut butter mousse are heavenly. We had lovely afternoon at The Local. I had the special fish of the day which was pan seared snapper and prepared perfectly. The crispy little "crust" was amazing. It was lightly drizzled with a sauce I can only compare to a hollandaise and sprinkled with capers. The fish came with two sides and I chose broccolini and cauliflower. Broccolini tasted so fresh and not just your normal steamed veggie. The cauliflower seemed toasted or grilled and sprinkled with herbs had a lemony flavor. I've never had cauliflower cooked so perfect. Next time I will ask how it was done so that I can try it at home. Our server was attentive and just delightful. She explained everything really well and took her time with us. I will definitely be returning because there are so many items on the menu I would love to try. The food is so fresh and so many low carb and gluten free choices as well as craft beer and a nice wine list. Their flatbreads are no joke - think thin, medium-sized pizzas rather than six inches of flatbread. I had a delicious fish chowder for an appetizer and my friend had a salad. We stopped in for a late night bite. We had a fantastic meal here! Our waiter was fantastic great knowledge of the menu. We had the veggie option of kung pao. Very tasty good variety of veggies. Salad options were fresh and right on with flavor. Heirloom tomatoes were to die for. The curry clams were very tasty with the right amount of spice. The beer selection was really refreshing. This place is going to have a great future. It is hard to find a place that uses organic and is buys local. As for the cost it is right in line with organic foods. Fantastic meal. We ordered an assorted platter of pickles as an appetizer, and the chef himself came out to explain all the different items to us. I think he was excited that someone ordered a menu item that was dear to his heart. In light of his enthusiasm I went ahead and tried some of the pickles that I might otherwise have been doubtful about. Pickled green strawberries? They were delicious! Who knew? The pickled red onions and the pickled fennel were also good, even though I don't usually like either. Our main dishes were very good, but it's that pickle platter that we will always remember. All the food is locally sourced and the staff will tell you a lot more than you want to know about that. They really care. This is a great place to go if you have any kind of dietary restrictions. I think about half their customers do. When I phoned ahead, the person suggested bringing a list that could be given to the chef. At most restaurants when you have to explain that you can have X but not Y, you feel like you are imposing and they are humoring you but don't take it seriously. At The Local it was as if the conversation was actually interesting to them and they were enthusiastic about meeting the requirements.
