Amy sure knows how to please! Amy and her family go out of their way to make a wonderful meal! From seating to service till you have to go they will take great care of you and your guests! They even had their own show "The Family Business" Very funny! My favorite dish is the dry spicy chicken! Omgeeee! soooo tasty read more

The Lingnan never disappoints. The food is always great (last night we had the crispy lemon chicken, pork dumplings, and Cantonese special, yum!). The staff are very friendly, our order was a little delayed due to volume but the owner was super apologetic. They were very accommodating to our little one and that's always a win! Will be back soon read more

The Lingnan isn't LIKE the 70s... it IS the 70s. Completely renovated after it survived a fire in 1975, this ornate Chinese restaurant is now celebrateing more than 60 years in business. And even though the surrounding neighborhood is not so good, the interior of the restaurant attracts many, filled with lush, old-style elegance, and "drink menu" placemats to cover their big spacious tables. (I know that to some the Chinese zodiac is important; but any place that I find cocktail placemats instead of the ubiquitous Chinese zodiac placemats - is my kind of place!) As I walked further into this stylish mahjong palace, with all it's Chinese lanterns, people speaking the language, and dragon tiles hanging on the ceiling, I felt certain that I time warped into a kitschy old Beijing opium den. But this shouldn't cause you any concern - and neither should the food - as the fare is well priced, large portioned, and "flavor-licious" (uhhh, did I just type flavor-licious??). Anyways... The friendly waiter, dressed in a stylish kung fu Chinese jacket, served us with great ceremony, delivering: mounds of gooey, sugary "Szechuan Beef"... chewy, noodley "Aristocratic Chow Mein" (their name not mine)... and the star of the show: Amy's infamous "Dry Spicy Chicken" - which is one part zesty, and other part delicious. So next time you're hungry for old school Chinese food, eat at Lingnan; it's one of the many places that helps make life in Edmonton, tastier. read more

We ordered takeout at 6:00 and were told it would be ready at 6:45. When I arrived to pick it up, I was told they were running behind and it would be another 10 minutes. After another 5 minutes, they said it would still be another 5 minutes. Another lady also waiting had phoned in her order at 5 pm for pickup at 6:30. When she arrived, her order wasn't ready and she had to wait 20 minutes for it to be ready. I wasn't impressed with the food. The Cantonese chow mein had few ingredients other than the noodles and special fried rice was very plain. The meat in the dishes was very tasteless - could not tell the difference between a piece of beef and chicken. Would not order from here again. read more

I ordered lemon chicken and fried shrimp, they were very very lightly fried, then poured into the delivery container. I had to empty all contents on paper towel and the bottom was soaked in oil in both containers, yuck it was inedible due to the large amounts of oil. Wasted money, theses reviews are old do not go by reviews like I did or u will be very disappointed read more

Okay... so ate here once before an Oiler game. They had a buffet with a list of items for me on the menus. When I went up to the buffet there were only 3 items available. They did bring me tofu when I mentioned it to them but it was just deep fried no sauce. Took for ever to get the bill and I had to go to the front to request it as we were going to miss the start of the game. The food was good and everyone else enjoyed the other food so we decided to order for Christmas Eve. When I called for a reservation they said the earliest they could do was 730pm. To late for my in-laws so I asked about take out. They told me I needed to order before 530pm because they don't do take out after that. We decided to go with take out. So I called at 5pm Christmas Eve only to find out I wouldn't be able to pick up till 830pm. Whaaat??!! I told the gal what I was told and she just said she was very sorry there was nothing she could do. Well I'm sorry I won't be giving my money to this place again! read more

Quon Dynasty/ Family Restaurant Reality show filmed here so we made sure we came for dinner while visiting Edmonton. We were warmly greeted by Kinman. Too bad the rest of the Quon dynasty was not in. Food was good large portions. But the friendly service was so impressive. Complimentary Shirley temples for the kids and some fancy chop sticks. Once we told Kinman we were fan of the show he graciously chatted and took photos with us. Definitely a must stop in Edmonton if you have seen the show. read more

Service was great the owners are fantastic. The food is your typical Western Chinese variety. Don't get me wrong the dishes did taste great just not the authentic chinese. It was odd that I was the only Asian customer in the restaurant. It makes sense as they tend to cater to the clientel that wants an egg roll or chop suey. The rating should be higher if that is the type of food you want. read more

First of all, don't let the location deter you from enjoying this gem. The atmosphere is mesmerizing the moment you walk in the door. The decor is like something straight out of a Hollywood movie. The service is impeccable. Next comes the food. My favourite of all the Chinese restaurants I've been to. In any city for that matter. Always hot, fresh and great flavour. Oh and how can I forget they had there own tv show. Which was filmed on location. read more

The Lingnan - Chinese Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

The best Chinese food in Edmonton hands down ! Yes it is on the expensive side but it SO worth it !! The family is very very kind and we always feel like family when we go here !! Will be back many times over! read more

The personality of the owners and staff bring a certain element of intimacy In the sense that you feel like your having dinner at a family friends place. That being said, the atmosphere is decked out and looks awesome, lots of time and money was definitely spent in making it the best looking Chinese restaurant in Alberta by far. The food is a westernized version of Chinese food which is not a knock though, I prefer the westernized version. They have a nice cocktail list as well. The parking can sometimes be annoying on a busy night but is never a problem on the weekdays. The szechaun chicken and shanghai noodles are excellent. Try the Ling Nan Beer, it's yummy and locally produced. read more

This was our first time ordering from them and man I'm glad we did! They called almost right away when we ordered with an estimated delivery time. The lady on the phone was very polite and courteous. The ability to order online was great but the food. The food was absolutely amazing!! To start it was delivered piping hot, And there was so much of it too! We definitely will be ordering again! read more

OBVIOUSLY like everyone else in Edmonton must feel, this is my favourite place for Chinese food! The delicious food is hot, fresh, smells amazing, and is so fairly priced! They have the best of any chinese food you want and honestly you'll want to go back every single day. It is beyond amazing delicious here! It's border line addicting to be honest. If you have the opportunity to eat in the restaurant, do yourself a favour and do it. The inside is so beautiful and like the old school traditional Chinese restaurants we of the newer generations are not accustomed to, but that our parents and grandparents grew up with. The decor is so beautiful inside and totally adds to the whole experience. You feel like you're in the roaring 20s about to have the night of your life. It's honestly so cool here. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful and kind. Food arrives within a reasonable time and is beyond all expectation. Whether you want to share with the table or just have a plate to yourself, the staff have excellent advice and take their time with you. You are not rushed here and leave feeling like the queen of Sheba. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to go somewhere fun, upbeat, and entertaining with a positive atmosphere. The guests are all in such a good mood too. You can't help but feel wonderful after a night at the Lingnan :) read more

Ate here last night, making it the third time I've been here. It was just as great as the other two times. The food was delicious, and they have the best chicken balls I've ever had. The only thing I find a little off putting is the number of waitstaff that are sort of just walking around aimlessly waiting for your water glass to be half full so they can top it up. At one point we had three waiters all reaching over each other to fill our drinks which weren't even half gone. Other than that it's a great place. The interior is like stepping into a fancy movie set. Very clean and authentic with a cheerful and fun environment. Great food, quick service, definitely recommend this place. read more

I have always placed an order for delivery from home., it was always good but.... Recently I went here to eat in the dining area instead.I ordered multiple things off the menu (and one that wasn't; beef and tomato chow mein), and everything I put in my mouth was amazing, the spring rolls are to die for and of course Amy's famous chicken!, everyone was so polite and helpful and on top of service! This is by far the best Chinese food I have ever eaten here, don't let the location or the older style scare you off, there's a reason it's been here that long!!!. read more

Apparently this restaurant was on some show on the Food Network. I was actually surprised to find that out because I would of expected it to be a lot better than it was. I've never been a promoter of asian food in this city, but Lingnan was a bit better than the rest. The food was fresh, but it wasn't anything spectacular. The szechuan chicken was kind of gooey, and the rice seemed undercooked. I don't have much complaints after that. I think Lingnan might be one of the better Asian places in Edmonton. read more

Service was mediocre, the server almost seemed rude and demanding- my table and I felt almost rushed to order. This didn't exactly leave us excited for the food, which was was decent- nothing spectacular. However, I would recommend this place for large groups for people, so you can share multiple items- as most of the dishes are enough for 2-4 people. read more

New to the city and wanted to make a tradition to have chinese food every Christmas Eve. The food was absolutely amazing and the portions were a very good size. We ordered a combo for 2, with 2 egg rolls, some deep fried wontons and some lemon chicken for pick-up! The customer service was great and the lady over the phone was very helpful for our first time ordering. The man who gave us our food once we arrived was very polite and fast to have our food ready and out the door. The egg rolls were different, massive and packed tight with...egg roll stuff. However, the egg rolls were the only thing we didn't care for but to each his own! We received a huge box of wontons which was nice compared to other places we've eaten at. As for the lemon chicken and combo for 2, the food was amazing! We will definitely be going back again whichever the next occasion might be...hopefully New Year's Eve!! Amazing food, great service, what else can you ask for. read more

Called at 4 pm on Christmas Eve and placed our order- they took it, gave us a total and said it would be delivered sometime between 7pm and 9pm. At 8:50pm I get a call from the restaurant stating that they cannot take our order. We have been waiting all night for dinner. In my opinion an incredibly unprofessional move and poor management. Very disappointed. read more

Food was good for traditional western Chinese food. I ordered because of the good reviews on Yelp. It is a very busy place! They told me 2 hours for delivery! So I had to pick it up and when I got there people where lined up waiting to sit. For busy place they do not have enough parking so I had to park almost a block away. Lost a star. Seemed a little bit higher price than similar changes food places in Edmonton. read more

I have been going here since my teens. Always good service and always good food. The food is a bit greasy but normal for the kind of food that is old style Chinese food. The experience is fun and have been back many times. read more

AMAZING Peaches and cream shrimp! Delivery too. Loved this place.

This place reminds me every Chinese restaurant I went to as a kid - lamps, fish tank, lattice - it was great! My teenagers loved it. No, the food is not challenging or unique. Their definition of "spicy" is on the tepid side. All of that said, we loved the green onion cakes, crispy chicken and schezuan beef. Basically, white people Chinese comfort food. The service was impeccable. Some nights we venture into Chinatown and try something new. But if you aren't up to that challenge, you won't go wrong at The Lingnan. read more

The Lingnan - Chinese Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

I just celebrated my birthday at this restaurant with 11 others. Food was delicious and plentiful. We even got a birthday drink from the owner who came over to the table to say hello. Wonderful restaurant, we can see why it's been open for 30 yrs!! read more

Disappointed. Ordered take out for Christmas Eve. Placed order the day before for pick up at 6pm. Waited 50 minutes for the order. Utter chaos in the lobby waiting for the order. People crammed in with no clear sign as to where you picked up your order. Several families left while waiting , angry because they sat in the restaurant for an hour , and no food arrived. The wait would have been ok if the food was great. Sadly the food was only ok. Not sure this was a typical Christmas Eve experience here but clearly the restaurant over booked what it was capable of handling. Won't be returning. read more

I love this place! My buddy brought me here a few weeks ago and it was a total surprise. In an "up and coming" part of town. Super traditional decor, which is funny as it was full of Westerners. I loved the Szechuan Beef!! I'm having my birthday here for sure - countdown! read more

Very average buffet. Waiters are attentive but that does not make up for the meh food. Chow menu had a weird plastic nut after taste. Green onion cakes were dry and hard. Chicken balls were delicious though, big pieces of chicken and nice batter. Buffet was refreshed half way through our meal. Food was MUCH better then. Probably won't come back for the price. read more

First of all we really enjoyed our visit here.....BUT. Ever been to a restaurant that's been around for a long time and most go there because of the lengthy history or some reviews that use the word "amazing" and when you go there its not amazing. You sit there and fill your face. Pay your bill. Walk out to your vehicle to one of the limited parking spaces that you had such a difficult time finding and wonder.........was it worth it? Don't get me wrong. We had fun like I said previously. We had the buffet dinner for $27 per person plus tip and that my friends is too expensive. Maybe I'm being too critical, but this place is dated as is their western Chinese cuisine. I have a question....why were some of the beef or chicken pieces in the buffet semi-hard as old leather when they opened at 5 PM and we arrived at 5:45 PM? Hmmmmmm... With exaggerated fanfare staff brought two tiny doughnuts for desert to our table. They were covered in an over loaded sugar slop and the bottom of the doughnuts were hard. Yuck. Staff were a 5+. read more

Very friendly to talk to on the phone. It wasn't just call and order...they were more than willing to help with choices and favourites of the customers. He even gave me a little history about the resteraunt. Delivery was fast driver was friendly and the food was still plenty hot. Found my new favourite Chinese food spot read more

Finally made it here! First of all, I love the decor! It's kitchy and fun and everything you would want in a Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. The service is top notch, some of the best I have experienced. The staff is attentive, very friendly and polite. They make you feel like a valued customer. Now, you migh be thinking, "well isn't that the same for any restaurant?" Well, unfortunately it is not. I have had some pretty bad experiences with servers. Not here though! They treat you like gold! And the owner! My gosh how I adore mama Quon! She is just right in there, keeping the food fresh and having a wonderful attitude and great sense of humor. She spotted my boyfriend and made a comment about him being skinny and needing to take another plate of food LOL...too funny! We went for the buffet because I am indecisive and I want a bit of everything. Now, I am not really a fan of buffets...I mean...who wants food that's been sitting there for who knows how long? Well that's not the case here. They go through the buffet food so fast that they are constantly replenishing the items with fresh stuff. The dry spicy chicken and schezwan beef were my favorites.. although I am no stranger to the dry spicy chicken as I have sampled it at Taste of Edmonton. I had such a great experience that I look forward to coming back to try some à la carte menu items. I definitely recommend this place for great Chinese food! read more

Happy New Year...Lingnan style. A wonderful exciting evening to celebrate Chinese New Year. Congratulations to the Quon family for a job well done. Excellent food and entertainment this evening. Thank you Kinman, Amy, Raymond, Wilson and all of the staff at Lingnan for providing an experience for us. We talk about your restaurant wherever we are. Keep up the great work ! Bob M. read more

Not sure what all the hype about this place is. Even before their TV show, I had many people recommending the Lingnan to me. I have tried it twice now, and it really isn't very good. Granted, the "ambiance" inside is kind of cool. Very hollywood faux-Chinese looking. But other then the wall covers and costumes, this restaurant isn't that great.. Both times I've been the restaurant has been freezing cold, and food barely stays hot (even with the heated plates). On our second try, the waiter was unhelpful, and refused to make a very minor change to a dish. Food itself was all very bland, and just seemed like everything was covered in the same generic salty bland sauce. I've definitely had worse Chinese, but I've also definitely had way better. The Lingnan is not worth all the hype it seems to get. read more

I've never had Chinese food before, and thought to myself after the first bite "wow this tastes like it was just cooked for me". This is the experience we had not once but every time we have ordered from Lingnan. read more

Oh man, the Lingnan. It's exactly what I think when someone asks me what my favorite Chinese restaurant is. I love everything about it. First, you can't deny how beautiful the interior of the restaurant is. It's so.....Chinese. Haha. I've never seen anything else like it in Edmonton. It's gorgeous. The food is phenomenal. I've tried many, many items on the menu and everything always comes out of the kitchen piping hot and fresh. I also really like the hot iron plate things they place at your table which they put your food on so the food stays hot. It's almost like they want you to enjoy your food! The servers are extremely friendly and make sure you have everything you need. Sometimes the Quan Family interacts with the customers. And if you watched "Family Restaurant" you get kinda star struck. Lol. I was enjoying dinner there with my family on my birthday when 'Mama Quan' (I call her) came to our table to ask how our meal was and to chat a bit. She was hilarious. The fact that it was my birthday was somehow brought up and she ran to the back and brought out a tiny gold Buddha figurine. I may be a grown woman, but I still like getting treats! It's like the toy you get after going to the dentist as a kid. Haha. If I had one thing I had to complain about, it's that the food is a little pricey. And, like someone else said in their review, you're paying for the ambiance. That's totally fine with me. It's not a place you should be going to every time you have a Chinese food hankering - it's a nice treat. Go treat yo'self! read more

We ordered Chinese food delivery from the Lingnan tonight, as we have several times before. It is one of the better Chinese food restaurants in Edmonton, but could still use a bit of improvement (though not too much). Since our last time ordering from them, which was 4 or 5 months ago, they've changed their menu somewhat. My wife used to love their spring rolls, now she says "They're okay", as they've added some sort of sausage meat to them. Their chicken fried rice needs something more, maybe peas and carrots or something, as it is rather bland. We tried their Lingnan Special Sweet and Sour Ribs tonight, and they were excellent! I remember ribs like this from many years ago. The sweet and sour sauce isn't like every other place in the city. It's more cooked right into the ribs, giving them a darker colour, and much more flavour. Definitely worth a try! The chicken chop suey is good, being above average. And their deep-fried shrimp is probably the best in the city. Their batter isn't as heavy as other restaurants, and they cut the tails off the shrimps. We will definitely order from them again. read more

Our last experience (tonight) was sad. I've ordered in from Lingnan countless times and have been to the restaurant 4 or 5 times, and had nothing but great experiences. I hadn't been there or ordered in about a year or so, but tonight we ordered in. The food was NOTHING like it once was. The Cantonese Chow Mein was sort of dry and lacked the ingredients it once had, the Special Chop Suey was extremely bland and no better than what you'd expect from a mall outlet. The saddest part was the Spicy Dry Chicken - their flahship item from Chicken For Lunch - had only a handful of actual meaty chicken chunks in it - the rest was crunchy pieces of deep fried batter clinging to tiny pieces of scrap chicken. VERY SAD. I honestly was shocked at how bad the quality has slipped. This place has gone downhill BIG TIME. Their show seemed to give them the opportunity to drop quality while riding on their fame. Sad to see an iconic Edmonton restaurant slide into mediocrity like this. Won't be going there or ordering from there again. Too bad. read more

Best Chinese in Edmonton. The mixed greens were diverse, crisp, and perfectly sauced. Szechuen beef is amazing along with their Singapore noodles. Staff was super friendly and very sensitive to Covid measures. Delivery packaging was secure and portions were huge. Love this place and can't wait to go in person. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect from this place, but was pleasantly surprised. The servings were way too big and a bit on the greasy side, but tasted wonderful. On the list of my new favorite restaurants. Yeah, good Chinese food in Edmonton! read more

If you've seen "Family Restaurant" on TV, then you're already familiar with the Lingnan. My first trip there lived up to expectation. The food was excellent. We had the curried chicken, Korean beef, lemon chicken, wonton soup, and their special fried rice. All were excellent. We also tried the house beer (Amy's beer!). It's flavoured with ginseng and brewed by Alley Kat Brewing. It was very tasty. Our waiter was quite funny and did an excellent job. If I had one complaint, it's that the food could have been spicier, but that's easily remedied. read more

So I was super excited to come here for valentines day, and I'm so happy I did! Amazing decor the ambiance was beautiful! Everything from the fish scale wallpaper to the hanging lanterns, the bar, the dishware' everything was vintage and most was original decor from 1947 when it opened! The staff were great and wore matching traditional Chinese silk shirts and were great at filling my water and being attentive to my every need. The wife of the owner came by and gave us a little valentines gift and brought my son a Shirley temple on the house. She was so cute talking to everyone and working the room. The food just as good as it looked and very fresh. I'm giving this nostalgic piece of Edmonton's history 5 stars for my overall experience :) read more
