    Fried fish
    Jennie L.

Really great place. No frills. Food is fresh. Not much to look at on the inside. Cash only They have a parking lot(ish) but with all the construction it is near impossible to get in. I think since COVID they are take out only. Service is fast. Today we tried the fried fish, the ginger beef, the vegatables in garlic sauce, Shanghai Noodles and Chicken Fried Rice. Everything was delcious. The fried fish was full of flavour, perfectly cooked so soft inside. Family loved the ginger beef. I liked how the sauce came seperate so it wasn't soggy in the styrofoam containder. Veggies were perfectly cooked and flavourful. The kids slurped up the Shanghai noodles and the rice was nicely seasoned and flavourful. I will have to try something more adventurous next time. Any suggestions? Feel free to message me.

    The barely there shrimp wontons

For a place that features wonton in their name, they should be doing better. Maybe it's my Big Toronto city standards. Growing up, my mother loves HK wonton noodles so I've had my share. It took me awhile to finally honker down and try out this place! But boy was it a disappointment! I should have ordered the Beef tendon noodles (which was not on the menu but the lady claims they have) Since this place is called "wonton house" and I've been wanting to try their wontons for awhile everytime I'm in town, I decided to give it a shot. The noodles itself was fine, but the wonton seems def homemade but that's all I could the good things I could say about this place! The actual wonton itself lacked the shrimp my flavour, maybe it was a bad batch or maybe it was just not made for Chinese palette! It had more pork than shrimp, one tiny piece of shrimp when proper Chinese wontons should be the opposite. I would go back just to try other things but it's really disappointing when they are "wonton house" and they can't even get their wontons right. I'll be sticking with Pho Next time I come back to Edmonton. Service wise like all Chinese restaurant, but what surprised me was the condiments had to be on request maybe due to covid restrictions and all that. But Alberta was one of the firsts to lift everything so guess the restaurants don't wanna put out all the condiments so chilli oil and vinegar that's a staple with wonton noodles had to be requested! Upon getting the bill at the cashier counter (the noodles came up to $10) they didn't have change for a $20, and the lady made a big fuss about whether I had something smaller. She finally went into her own purse to get me change as she made some sort of excuse of the owner being away on her dinner break. Anyways again maybe it's my big city girl high standards but yeah this place was meh in my books.

Hoinan Chicken and Rice - best in the city for rustic style, nothing fancy about it except how delicious it is

There's nothing bad I can say about this place as I've been going here for 30 years. Over that time it has turned itself from a super dive to a moderate dive. It used to be very dirty and run down and now it's just a bit acceptable. Regardless the food hasn't changed, still just as good as it was back then. Loads of msg and everything good. Don't go if you're super health conscious. Go if you really like authentic yummy food. Btw this place is CASH only. I recommend the beef brisket with wontons in noodles soup. Also the hoinan chicken rice. Best of all is the salt and pepper wings. If you have time order the ribs in rice hot pot.

It has been a number of years since I have been to Double Greeting Wonton House after moving to Texas and it still tasted as good as it did he first time we went 25+ years ago. Not only was the taste the same but so was our server! We have loved coming here for years with friends and family, it was such a treat to the same great service and food. The ginger beef never disappoints and no where else compares. Our other favorites are the garlic and black bean chicken chow mein, house fried rice, beef and broccoli and beef brisket won ton noodle soup. It was a killer meal and we finished everything in sight. Fingers crossed the next time I make my way back to Edmonton Double Greeting Wonton House is still standing. Do yourself a favor and go!!!

Bar-b-q pork and soya chicken with a few pieces missing :)

I am so happy this place is still open, I thought it had closed. I went here for the first time about 30 years ago and fell in love with #73 Shanghai noodles with pork. Tonight I went back for the first time in 20 years and the item was still on the menu ( with the same number) and was just as good as I remembered. We also had Bar-b-q pork and soya chicken. The pork was excellent. The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly. Portions were generous. We ended up bringing lots home. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only downside was they only take cash and we did not have any, there is a cash machine on the premises.

A single serving of Wor Wonton

I don't care what people think, this is a five-star place to me, simply because it's stood the test of time. For twenty years, my family has been going to DG or "Deej" as we call it on a regular basis. Though, some have defected to the supposedly similar/better/cleaner/whatever "All Happy" near 101 St, my loyalty is still with Double Greets. This is the place to go if you don't give a crap about ambiance (c'mon, the pastel isn't that bad), location (so what if it's by a now-demolished shady hotel?), and, um, service (brusque is possibly too polite)... but if you care about greasy, authentic, tasty Chinese food. Now, it suffers, like many Chinese restaurants, from "too many to choose" syndrome so I'ma break it down for you: start with the Wor Wonton (i mean it IS a "wonton house"), beef brisket chow mein (crisp noodles), #155 with the spicy tofu and pork on rice, and the spiced salt chicken wings. If you want to go inauthentic on me, their ginger beef is actually very good. Meaty with a crisp coating, unlike some offerings where it's all coating, no meat. The sauce is good. I also like their satay beef chow fan with gailan and shanghai noodle (also popularly called "you know, the one that looks like worms"). There are probably more, but those should be safe enough to test. Best of all, it's pretty cheap. :)

He had heart balloons and flowers for our table which made the occasion even more special. The food is fabulous, the peaches and shrimp dish is so good as well as the beef with Gai lan and the tofu assorted vegetable hot pot. Noodles and desserts are great as well! We have tried so many dishes here it is hard to name them all. This restaurant is also on SkipTheDishes and with my referral, my office has ordered on several occasions. You can actually park your vehicle safely in their free lot now, for up to 2 hours. Security is watching and even checks in with you when you park. As for the food, in my experience it's all been great! The menu is a funny combo of different cuisines, definitely befitting the name "bistro". There are a variety of asian dishes (Chinese, Japanese, Thai), HK-style foods and very traditional western cuisine like beef bourguignon. That one intrigues me, super old school and looks really good. There are also some set menus that come with drinks. It's one of the few places I feel spoiled for interesting selection, hard to make a choice. Chinatown Dining Week has brought me back here three times in as many weeks, got hooked by the beef and sour veg steamed in a lotus wrap. This visit my husband got the gyukatsu set, which was really good if you can live with slightly sweet Glico-style curry. The omurice was perfect. Their katsu particularly is really, really good, better than your average schnitzel, and much cheaper! Have been back a few times and even brought the extended family. There's something for everyone! Everything we've tried has been tasty, fresh and a generous portion. Previously we tried the bistro premium fried rice which had scallops and tobiko, delicious. My food-restricted niece tried the crispy shrimp appy, which were really tasty and more like prawn-size. Not sure she got many back after offering to share with the table. Ah Chinatown. Been coming here my whole life but always get the side-eye, usually from the owner, until ordering. The experience wouldn't be the same without it. The other staff were more genuinely friendly and happy the food was enjoyed. One01Bistro is officially a new family favourite, especially before events at Rogers Place. Psst also... cheap beer.

We quickly grabbed a new set where multiple sets were ready for distribution when neccessary. As Asians, we generally wash all of our bowls and utensils prior using as our practice with hot water or tea (depending on what you ask for). Food - 4/5. The chicken casserole was flavourful, just a lot of bones. The beef was very soft and tender. The sweet and sour pork chops had a thick tangy sauce but good that it had a light batter around the meat, which kept the meat moist. The chicken is the typical dish you can get at most Chinese restaurants. It was interesting that it actually sat in a soy sauce base. The ginger sauce is missing the typical green onions. However, it was seasoned quite well. I didn't take a picture of dessert though. It was red bean with glutinous rice sweet soup. I actually quite enjoyed it. Overall: 3.5/5.
