The Beijing House Buufet, located on Edmonton's St. Albert Trail, is a favourite amongst locals. Beijing House is primarily a buffet, but you also have the opportunity to order single items from the menu, but meal deals are also available for two, three, four, six and eight people. These are are a great option if you don't want to take from the buffet. But I would like to add that the buffet is very complete, always fresh and full. The meal we took is the deal for two, which included two spring rolls, two wonton soups and chicken fried rice, plus two other entrees (in this case, we ordered lemon chicken, and the beef and broccoli). Food that is served at Beijing House is very complete: soups and appetizers, chicken, beef, seafood, pork, vegetable and chop suey, rice, noodles, chow mein, and egg foo yong. The restaurant has very nice decoration, which is typically Asian. The place is great for lunch and dinner, and whether you are by yourself, small group or having a party gathering. If you're ever craving some good Chinese food, buffet style, I recommend this place. They have a great selection including some wester dishes as well as a small dessert area.. Not much for service here, they take your drink order come around fill up your pop or water, come back when you're ready to pay.. service is ok,, not to high of recommendation there. We walked into the restaurant, and the server sat us down and we proceeded to tell her we wanted to order off their menu, a couple of different dishes. The server said it was only smorgasbord today; this was Sunday the day before Thanksgiving. She said she would have to ask the manager if we could stay and order off the menu. I said your place right now has plenty of empty tables but forget it, we will leave. We have been in there many times before with no problem but that was the last time for sure. I'm over Beijing House Buffet. The last couple visits have been disappointing. Today was $$$ for Mother's Day (an extra $6/person) but there weren't any extra or special dishes. The green onion cakes were rick hard - my little guy couldn't bite through them. They had a maki station - yay! But there was an empty soy sauce bottle and empty pickled ginger bowl - boo. Dessert is always disappointing here so I don't bother. My family probably comes here 4-5 times a year as Gramma has always loved their salt & pepper squid (Sunday item) but they didn't have it today. Our family came and made a reservation as most tables and booths are for parties of 4 or so. There are just a few large tables that could accommodate 10 people or so. The buffet has many of the Westernized Chinese food staples including ginger beef, chicken balls, deep fried shrimp, and sweet and sour pork. Although the deep fried items were battered up, there was a decent amount of chicken and small shrimp. There was wonton soup for those that want a warm soup. There's chicken fried rice, Singapore noodles, and a few other noodle dishes. The BBQ chicken was tasty, but the pork ribs were more bone than meat and wouldn't recommend. Glad there were a few dishes with vegetables. They also had buns but they didn't seem to be a popular item and dry. The food temperature was warm-hot and I saw them bring our fresh food so it's good to know it hasn't been sitting hours and hours. I didn't have any dessert as I was too full from my dinner but there was jello, lemon tart, fruit, and I think cake. Service was good to refill our glasses and take away dirty plates very timely. What a flavor! I'm in loved with this place! Yes, it is a bit more $$ than others but is so worthed. Variety, quality, and refill timing is uncomparable. The servers are nice, and they are checking your drinks constantly, the same as taking used plates off the table. I really enjoy the food here, we spend at least 2 hours here while chatting, eating, chatting again and eating one more time! The sushi selection is not big, but there are options for everyone, meat lovers, seafood lovers, vegetarians, even if you also feel like having dessert they have also some options there. If you don't want to eat from the buffet, you can also ask for the menu and order a specific plate. They also have the pickup option so there is another way to try their food if you prefer. I'm already planning my next visit, maybe with a larger group. Food is not as good as I remember. I used to frequent this restaurant quite a bit years ago. I recall the food being good and the price was cheap. Fast forward years later and the quality is not good at all. My friend and I were looking to go out to eat close to home. She has allergies therefore, can only eat at select restaurants. As she's been here in the past this was a safe bet. Dinner buffet is $21.45 taxes included. The restaurant was decently full. Our server was very sweet and polite as well as attentive. The only thing was that she brought us our bill while we were still in the middle of eating. It was odd but she did ensure us that there was no rush and to take our time. They have quite a large selection and brought out a fresh batch of stuff when we arrived. Unfortunately most of the items left a lot to be desired. I was not impressed with my food so much. The taste was off and some of the sauces smelled like dish soap and cleaning products. The desserts were either burnt or stale. My cookie was disgusting and my friend's cream puff was black. The jello and the fruit looked old. My friend did really like her ice cream though. The ginger beef, broccoli, and fried shrimp were the only good items. I've never reviewed Beijing House Buffet? Crazy, since I've been here it seems like, a hundred times. Beijing House Buffet is always good, kind of like a comfy pair of pajamas. They are pretty much your typical western Chinese food cuisine, with the chicken balls, ginger beef, hot and sour soup and so forth. However, they always have some sort of more traditional dish which harkens back to more traditional Chinese fare. Gramma likes the salt and pepper squid while I gravitate toward the poached fish (I can't remember what they they season it with) because it is always cooked perfectly with a fantastic flavour. Their wonton soup is always good and they also usually have a Thai-inspired coconut soup, which is also very tasty. Of course, there is always the fried rice, Shanghai noodles, chow mein, mixed vegetables, spring rolls and deep fried shrimp. Apparently, the seafood is quite good (I'm not a shellfish fan) and they have a serve yourself soft ice cream machine. The only issue that I have is the price. Shanghai Restaurant in Leduc is just as good and doesn't hurt your pocketbook near as bad. read more

I was pleased to see how big and clean this place was as my expectation was to see old table and chairs, dirty buffet table, overcooked food, small selection and poor service. We arrived before 5 pm on a weeknight and there were already a few people there. The food looked freshly made, there were two soups...hot n sour and of course wonton. The wonton was the usual, there was fried rice, chow mein, shanghai noodle and singapore rice noodles but there wasn't lots of meat with these. For meat there was sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, ginger beef, chinese style bbq chicken, pork dumplings, spring rolls, breaded fish, chicken balls and breaded shrimp. There was salad but who really eats salad with chinese food? Dessert choices were different flavour jello, cake and fruit. I was hoping for the warm soup type dessert like the red bean or black sesame. All this was only $16.95, better than the other western chinese buffets. I stopped in here on Halloween night to grab a bite to eat before the late show. I was hungry and didn't want to eat at a formal restaurant because I didn't have much time so I figured a buffet would be a good plan. I wasn't even offered a menu and wasn't aware they even had one until I'd already filled my plate. Oh well. It wasn't too busy and the food was still decent - the spring rolls especially. As I was munching away, my server brought me a small plate with what she called BBQ steak. It must've been very tenderized because it wasn't what I would normally call a steak. Nonetheless it tasted really good. It was a nice surprise. I found it a bit pricey for a Chinese buffet. So this review is in regards to party booking. I needed a food venue last minute that would be able to accommodate an inestimable number of guests, close to a event location. I was able to book quickly with a rough time estimate, I booked for 50 people at 1:30pm. What I like is that they reserved the adjacent restaurant room (Manila Bay) next door for that purpose. What's also a bonus is that even though they charge per head, they do apply discounts for seniors, children & toddlers. You do pay for drinks on top of the head count for food though and a 15% graituity is automatically applied. On the day of the event, they were very accommodating, despite my guests coming an hour earlier & there was lots of hot & fresh western Chinese food at the buffet & a good assortment of desserts. They were also able to easily accommodate the extra guests I had that showed up (125 total) using the main restaurant area as well. Service was fantastic: friendly, swift to clear tables, happy to assist. Overall, even though I am not a big fan of western Chinese food, I am impressed with the service & affordability and availability of parking space here, and would most likely do this again should the occasion arise. read more

This is definitely the premier place for Chinese food buffet in the city! We made the drive from Leduc to the north side for family dinner and were not disappointed! The decor was modern and fun, the restaurant was super clean, and despite the buffet area looking small in comparison to the rest of the restaurant but make no mistake - this buffet had amazing choices! Including my new favourite Yum Yum Peachy Prawn! The service was attentive and very friendly. The dessert section was on the small side but there was a comprehensive dessert menu that was worth the few dollars more. The best part? We had been planning on seeing a movie - the restaurant shares a parking lot with the Cineplex and had a regular sale of dinner plus a movie. Win win! read more

I've been there for lunch buffet a bunch or times and really enjoy it. It is very large inside with comfortable booths. The place is immaculately clean and the service is perfect,the waitresses being as good as it gets. I even had one volunteer to carry my soup to my table because i had a plate in the other hand . The buffet is excellent with containers being constantly refilled. They basically have the usual chinese type suspects for food variety but it was well made. They have a sweet and sour coconut milk soup that i really enjoy and they have pork dumplings as well. For desert they have fruit and absolutely delicious chocolate chip cookies baked at the restaurant. A very nice place to eat. read more

I'm adding that elusive fifth star after our last visit, for several reasons. If you are as much of a calamari addict as I am (please, send me your recommendations!!), you may find yourself speechless over their salt and pepper squid. They look like little logs, not the usual rings, with a tender, juicy, perfectly cooked length of squid inside. The outside is equally remarkable, crunchy, flaky, not a hint of greasiness about them. And this was the most pleasant little surprise of all. Ok so I stumbled upon this place...upon not in..lol...and well it was huge first of all and staff everywhere. Service is great and well we had the buffet. What a great selection...its all there. Wonton soup...yes please...sweet bourbon chicken, dont mind if I do....the meat was tender and the rice fried just right. Probably one of the best Chinese buffets I've ever been to. The food is delicious and there is a large variety to choose from. The service was also pretty awesome. Our plates were always cleared away in a timely manner and our drinks were kept full. It's also really decent price wise for an all you can eat. It's a pretty good atmosphere too if you come with a larger group. There's going to be something for everyone to enjoy and no one will leave hungry. They even have little desserts. Overall, this was a great experience. I'm stuck on 3 stars because the selection was pretty limited. But what they did have was delicious! The hostess looked confused when I said I needed a table that could accommodate a wheelchair... and eventually put us at a booth and said my auntie could roll her chair up to the end. Not too big of a deal, but any time one of us needed to get out of the booth, she had to roll back so we could get by her. Not the end of the world, but I did feel like I was inconveniencing her a bit. The benefit to that was that we sat right next to the buffet. The Ginger Beef was really flavourful and easy to eat (I really hate when it's too tough). That was probably my favourite. The feature for the evening was Pork ribs and they were DELICIOUS! The service was great - none of our beverage glasses were ever empty, and our dirty plates were cleared quickly. Because it was Valentine's, they had a few special menu items, including short ribs and chocolate covered strawberries. For $21.95 each, we were really satisfied with the experience. There was enough to choose from including two soups, a few veggie dishes, chicken wings, noodle dishes, sweet and sour pork, ginger beef, chicken balls and way more. In total, I believe there was close to three dozen choices, not including the few dessert options as well. The restaurant is clean and bright and the staff is extremely pleasant. The food is always coming out and we never waited for a dish to be refilled. It was fairly loud though, primarily due to a large group in there. I would imagine it would always be somewhat noisy with the energy in there, however I'm fairly confident this group was just extra energetic! Husband and I decided to stop here for dinner pre-movie, and try it out. He was in heaven, with the wide selection of deep fried items. I certainly sampled everything, but had hoped to see more fresh options. You'll find a wide variety of north american style asian food here, including two types of won-ton soup. The salad section had maybe 5 options, including a huge bowl of plain lettuce. I've been lucky enough to only get fresh food off of the buffet at Beijing House. We usually go there for Christmas Eve dinner (it's tradition to have Chinese food on Christmas Eve hehe) but we came on Father's Day as well. I LOVE the peach yum yum prawns, but otherwise, it's your standard Western Chinese food fare. Is the buffet as good as traditional Chinese cooking? No. Is the food worth the money? In my opinion, yes! Especially considering the wait staff are attentive and the dishes are constantly being refilled. The interior is updated and clean looking, and very bright! Yes this place was good for the hunger strike. Plus it was walking distance to the theatre. Price is not to bad. Don't look to find anything unqiue in the dishes, its more of a Western Chinese food place. I wouldn't expect them serve anything uniquely asian. Don't get me wrong, nice place. Great place! Every time I visit here I leave happy and full. It is a Chinese buffet filled with your favourites and there is also something new to try each time my boyfriend and I have visited. Our favourites have been the ribs and baked chicken, I loved the squid, the dumplings and the soup are so tasty, like I said you will be full!
