The best part of Chan Can Wok is dealing with the fellow who either owns it or works there. He was very friendly and helpful. When we picked up the order it was ready at the requested time. This is primarily a take out establishment and I found the pick up area to be bright and cheerful. He had hand sanitizer for customers right by the cash register and that's nice to see during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately things went down hill after that. Upon getting home we found the dishes had cooled much more than expected. The family concensus was that most dishes were bland flavour-wise. Everything seemed to taste the same. The one exception was the Mongolian Beef dish which was nicely seasoned with a spicy sauce. It's also expensive. The order was $81.00 and we didn't even have any leftovers. So to sum it up, there is nothing here that was bad (except the price) but there wasn't anything that really stood out either. I doubt we order from here again because there are just too many other places to choose from. Sorry Chan Can Wok but that was our experience. read more

I ordered take-out from here the other day - the woman on the phone was very fast and polite. I must say they have a pretty large menu for such a tiny little restaurant! Their online menu was really helpful and well put together. I ordered the dinner for two [Starter Wonton Soup, Chicken Fried Rice, Crispy Ginger Beef, Mixed Vegetables & Chicken Chow Mein. And I added a separate side of hot & sour soup.] which came to $31.00. Delivery was free because the order was over $30! Yay! Only 20 minutes went by and the delivery guy was at my door step! I loves me some fast delivery. He was nice and friendly too. The food portions were not overly huge; just enough to split between two. [That's what we asked for, right? No complaints here.] It was very delicious! You could tell it was made a little different because it wasn't all that greasy and they weren't overzealous with the salt. I guess you could say it had a more natural taste. I was over all very satisfied by the price, service, and taste of the food. I will definitely be ordering from Chan Can Wok again soon! read more

The in-laws took us here. We got the dinner for 6. It was so much food, more like dinner for 8! Food: 3/3. Delicious, and a great amount. Service: 2/2. Couldn't get better. I guess it's because it's convenient but once everything gets cold if you're lucky enough to get it warm it is disgusting. Despite it being closest to our house, we avoid this restaurant. We've had a few mediocre experiences, but when we received a meal with a rock (yes, a ROCK!) in it, we decided to talk to them about it. Initially, we were offered a $5 discount on the next time we came in. Really? $5? We gave them one more try and were equally unimpressed. We had saved the rock and brought it in to them... they comp'd this meal... but still. Their customer service seems to be great, as long as you're dealing with the University-aged man that often runs the till area. Their food, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired. read more

Awesome for an easy dinner. We went to dinner and sat in. The restaurant only has four tables but it was rad none the less. Had a number of people over and thought we would order some Chinese cuisine. It was the closest to our place. Saturday night so food took a bit of time but was relatively fast. Some of the food was ok but the vast majority was bland, cold or inconsumable. If it wasn't for the ginger beef which was AMAZING, I'd give 0 stars. The husband and I ordered ginger beef, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken fried rice, and chicken chow mein. The ginger beef is the best I've had in along time! The chicken fried rice had almost no bits of chicken, aswell did the chicken chow mein. You're literally just paying for noodles with sauce. There wasn't any vegetables besides a small handful of sprouts on the chow mein. Out of the two chicken balls I ate, one was doughy on the inside and the other had some gross rubbery thing in it. Biggest waste for 60$ worth of food when you get almost no meat or vegetables. Do not recommend this place at all. read more

Haven't tried any Chinese food place in Edmonton yet after being here 3 years we thought we would give it a shot. First place was a bust (amazing wok). On our way home we spotted chan can wok. Food service was good staff were friendly and the prices were reasonable. Our food smelt so good on drive home I wanted to pull over and have some. All our dishes were a good portion size and well packed. The only thing that that had an off taste was the sauce for the almond soo guy it had a more smoky than almond taste. Being new to the southwest part of the city, I am not really familiar with the food choices around here. My boyfriend and I decided to order in Chinese food. We hummed and hawed over which restaurant to try and finally decided on Chan Can Wok as it was the closest and had decent reviews. They were super busy which was expected (aren't most restaurants on a Friday night?). We were told it would be about an hour and fifteen minutes. A bit longer than normal but not unusual. The gentleman who delivered our food was an absolute delight! He was super friendly, chatty and funny! I thought, ok...this is a good sign. Well. He was pretty much the highlight of the meal. We ordered beef schezwan, kung pao chicken, beef & vegetables and it came with chicken fried rice. Now, I am no expert on western Chinese food but if there is meat in the title, shouldn't there be a bunch of meat in the dish? There were maybe 4 pieces of beef in the beef schezwan and 2 or 3 pieces of chicken in the kung pao. Also, neither one tasted like they were supposed to and they had a lot of water chestnuts (like a lot) which I thought was weird. The schezwan also had these weird purple stringy things which I have never seen before and not really any other veggies. I am not sure if they mixed up our order or if this was their "version" but we ended up tossing most of it out as it didn't really taste all that good. Kind of bland actually. I have tried my share of chinese food places over the years, different cities, food courts, etc. I'm lucky that this place is close to me as I absolutely love their food. Most food court chinese foods make me sick shortly after I eat them but I've been ordering from this place on average three or four times a month now for about three years and they are always spot on. We have eaten both in the restaurant and taken out and have always gotten personable and friendly service. My husband has a finicky stomach but can eat this food just fine as well. Both of us are very into fitness and find their food to taste "cleaner" than other chinese places;it's my favorite cheat meal! Prices are great for the amount of food you get, I always order the meal for two. I plan on going here for many more years to come! read more

Never had any Chinese have been served this quick or any food for that matter. The staff are extremely friendly and easy going. Seems like they got lots regulars using this restaurant. That only means that the food and the service are always upto the customers standard. Food can be outstanding but with horrible service manners, it is harder to enjoy the food. But here, the quality of food and the service meets to keep the customers satisfied with their choices and visits. However, i found the food to be bit blend and i do agree with other reviews that more ingredients need to be used. Ex. The ratio of vegetable /pork in fried pork rice was not met. If I would not have never guessed it would be a bbq pork rice if I didn't know ahead. Same withe the sweet and sour chicken and seafood chow mein. It could have been better if there was more seafood in the chow mein and more meat in the batter of sweet and sour chicken. My favs are; war won ton soup, pineapple chicken balls, green onion cakes, and spring rolls. Food preparation was quick (about 15 minutes from ordering to serving). Some dishes were above average while others merely satisfactory. Perhaps nothing exemplary but definitely not a bad meal. Sweet and sour pork is excellent and the mushroom foo yong the best we've ever had. The seating area is very limited to 3 tables so we always pick up. South Edmonton's best Chinese! Small place but great for pick up! This is a mom and pop shop, but provides great quality of food, the best I have had in Edmonton for awhile. Ordered out for home, got talking with the proprietor and it came up that I had been unemployed due to the economic situation and he paid for my meal on the house.
