Why am I not surprised that there are other unsatisfied customers also wanting to warn others on Yelp? Because there were so many problems with this whole delivery dry-cleaning service that I'd be shocked if anyone had consistently great experiences with this business. I too used the Gilt City voucher to test-drive the Laundry Bag. I mean, $25 for 15 pieces of dry cleaning, picked up and dropped off at your building? It doesn't get much better than that. Normally I'm shelling out ~$9/dress (and I wear a lot of dresses). So I figured it was a no-brainer. Oh, how wrong I was. First, I tried to follow the instructions per the voucher: call and schedule the pickup/dropoff on the phone with The Laundry Bag. No answer to any of my many calls and I left multiple messages that were never returned. You would think this place was Schwa. So 3-4 days passed by with me persistently calling. I finally tried to use the online scheduling service to schedule a pickup/dropoff. But of course, they were totally overbooked, so I was only able to schedule a pickup on the day the voucher expired, and a dropoff after the voucher expired. I figured I'd just talk to them about it when they finally got to my building. Thursday morning rolled around, and I waited...of course, no one showed up. Incidentally, that same day I finally got through on the phone and they told me that I hadn't scheduled the right kind of appointments - two dropoffs and no pickup, which is why no one picked up. I am pretty intelligent and I was convinced that that's not what i had scheduled, but I didn't argue. And lo and behold, they scheduled the pickup/drop off for me: the Thursday next week and the Thursday after that. It was later than I preferred, but they promised to honor the voucher. I breathed a sigh of relief thinking at least this ordeal would be over soon. Not so. The day of the pickup, I gave them my bags with the voucher. That SAME DAY they came back - right when I was about to go out for my run - with my dry cleaning in hand, all done. And the delivery guy informed me it's an additional $10 for same day service. I was nonplussed. Again, I spend a ton on dry cleaning normally compared to the price I was paying, so I recognized it wasn't a lot of money. The work had already been done, so of course I paid the man. But....it was the principle of the matter that really irked me. I had been assured by the man on the phone that my Gilt City deal had been scheduled. I was well aware I wasn't the only one redeeming it in the last week, so I am sure that they knew "same day service" was clearly not part of the deal. I'm not sure why it got scheduled for me and then charged to me on the spot. But obviously, I'm not going to waste my time trying to reach someone on the phone to complain, either. Why am I now writing this review? Not for any of the aforementioned issues. No, because just now, over a week later after my laundry has been delivered, I received an e-mail notifying me of a pick up scheduled. Are you kidding me? That was the kicker. I canceled the appointment immediately. Being accessible is one of the cornerstones to having a successful business. If you don't pick up your calls and don't return your messages, what clients are going to return? When you don't deliver on your promises, you are breaking a cardinal rule in business as well. In summary: Laundry Bag was terrible. Don't do it, even just to save money. I'd eat off a Mcdonald's Dollar Menu for a month first - and I saw Super Size Me. Your time, effort and sanity are worth much more than $20-$30. read more

Awful experience. I bought a voucher from Gilt City to get pick-up/drop-off dry cleaning service. I scheduled my appointment online for a weekday pick-up between 6-6:15pm. This is right after work, but I'm almost always home by 6. Luckily I got home a bit early because they arrived at 5:50pm. Not a huge problem obviously, but something to note. Since they had been early for pick-up I assumed that the same could be possible for drop-off. I couldn't be home, so I had someone else at my home waiting for the drop-off starting at 5:45pm. We had the same drop-off time, 6-6:15pm. At 6:30 I got a call telling me nobody had stopped by. I checked my voice mail and had a missed call from 6pm. The delivery person said they were running a bit late. My friend had to leave so I was on my way home. At 7pm, an hour after the scheduled time, the delivery man called saying he was outside of my apt. I was about 2 minutes away and met him out front. He tried to hand me a bundle of clothes that weren't mine. An hour late and the wrong delivery! He said he could come back the following day but I wasn't going to be available. I asked if they could come to my office downtown and he agreed. When he called my phone the next day he asked me to come outside and meet him of the corner of the street. I wait for a few minutes and he showed up. I quickly went through the clothes that he handed me and there were other clothes mixed in with my delivery. I ran down the street after him and he hardly said thanks. I appreciate that they were able to make arrangements to come to my office, but the hoops I had to jump through will guarantee that I will not use or recommend this service. read more

This is for their laundry service, not dry cleaning. I used this service for about a year. It was my first delivery service for laundry and I did not have many expectations coming in. They were late a few times, so I would set appointments far later than needed and leave my laundry with my doorman. They stopped informing me my laundry was delivered so I had to guess and check downstairs rather than get the information. We used 2 bags and I requested them not be mixed, but they were mixed every single time. Many clothes of mine were lost or ruined. We got things back that weren't ours, too. We tried to return them and they refused. The policy for lost items is you must file a claim within 24 hours of delivery and submit the damaged clothing if that is applicable. Otherwise they don't accept it. You essentially have to take inventory of every individual piece of clothing because if you realize something is missing a few days later, you're out of luck. The damaged clothes cost around $300. They offered around $40 as that is what their insurance "suggested". I asked for proof of that and they refused to provide it, but bumped my payment to $80. Why would you be willing to do that unless $80 is still less than the actual amount you owe me. They ended up asking me to stop using them because I put in a second "missing clothing" request the next week. I asked to speak to their manager, and the man said he was the manager. I asked if there is anyone above him and he replied "No, the owner is in Thailand, not Chicago." I still have clothing that isn't mine and damaged and lost clothes that have not been replaced. It has now been over a month and I have not received the check for my second claim even though it was promised to me. The manager is friendly and nice, but at the end of the day, they don't care about a quality job. They damaged and lost around $500 worth of clothing and are paying back less than $150. I still think, "I haven't seen this shirt in a while," and realize they lost it. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! First, their website is not user friendly at all... you have to purchase your service on one page and then schedule on another - and you have to schedule once for pick-up and a separate transaction for delivery. All in all, 3 transactions for one service. When I called their number to ask how the service worked, the person said he was just their call agency and didn't know. I still haven't received my items and now I am terrified I will be missing things.... My biggest mistake, I didn't check Yelp first. Shame on me, but not wasting my time with this company again. read more

There is no business in Chicago that I hate more than this place. My experience with them is so bad just writing about it makes my blood boil so I will keep it short. I bought a coupon off of Gilt City, they damaged $1400 worth of merchandise by putting it in the washer (seriously- they made my clothing doll size), and then after MUCH haggling/back and forth with the manager Jon and Gilt City, i only got reimbursed $194! I've never in my life encountered such bad service; the owner should be ashamed in the way he runs his business and the fact that he can't even get his core competency (dry cleaning!) right. To add insult to injury, i had to BEG for the small paltry sum they gave me as reimbursement (even with receipts!). Is this any way to do business? The fact that they don't even have a physical address should be a tip off to their shady practices. Whatever you do, DON'T GO HERE! Save yourself the time, $$, and effort for what will surely be a complete disaster should you give them your business. ** if the owner is reading this- I hope this is a wake up call to you. I called them and was told someone would call me back immediately. No call back. After a further hour of waiting I went to work - late with no laundry done. AVOID this company. I had a ton of wash-and-fold laundry that I needed done. I called to make a pick up appointment, they came right in their delivery window (texting to say they were 15 min behind on the ideal time). I had a mix up with my credit card and I called and spoke to a very nice gentleman who helped me walk through it. The delivery was same day and right on time. It was very convenient and I have no complaints about the service. The only problem I had was that I wanted to pay online ahead of time, but the invoice came a little close to when the pick up was. It ended up being no problem my roommate was able to pay the delivery man, it was just a little close on timing in my personal opinion. read more

We have used the service several times over a course of the year. The appointments were usually late by a few minutes but no big deal. Then we used them again in May and they never showed up. We received a text 17 minutes after the appointment time that they would be 15-20 minutes late. After an hour laundry was still not delivered and upon contacting their office was told that they could only redeliver 4 days later because they only service our area on Tuesday's and Thursdays. The employees told us every reason why we couldn't have our laundry and they became hostile when we pointed out they didn't show up at the scheduled time. NEVER use this business if you can possibly help it. This place is terrible and their service is worthless. Let my experience by a lesson to you. In an attempt to save money, my roommate, girlfriend, and I went in on two ChiTownDeals coupons for this place. It was $20 for $50 worth of their wash and fold service. We figured out that this came out to about $2.50 per load of laundry and in our building, laundry is $3.50 per load. The $1.00 per load savings combined with the saved time and effort (they pick up, wash, fold, and redeliver your clothes) was more than worth it to us. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. First, we called to make an appointment. My roommate repeatedly corrected the person on the phone with regard to our address. Still, it seemed like things were cleared up and we set up a 9:30 am pick up. Day of, no one arrives at 9:30. Or 10. When we call, we find out they'd still left the wrong address in our file and we updated it, yet again, and they rerouted the driver. Our eventual pick up time was close to 11:30, 2 hours late. When our clothes return, all seems well. They were late returning items, as well, by about half an hour, but I was home job searching, so fine. Everything smells strongly of shitty, fake scented mountain fresh detergent or something, but whatever. My clothes are clean. Then, over the next few days, as we pull items out to wear, we notice some problems. An $80.00 dress from Macy's has two large (two inches across or so) holes in one sleeves. My $60.00 hoodie sweater has about half of the cuff ripped off, jaggedly. My girlfriend's favorite t shirt got the same cuff treatment. A reversible scarf that she loved has one huge hole in it and a smaller, matching one on the flip side. An all synthetic dress has shrunk two sizes, and synthetics are not supposed to shrink at all! So, of course, we call them about the total of over $200 in damage to our clothes for what was supposed to be a money and time saving service. They say they need to see the items and will pick them up the next morning. They do, and that afternoon they call to say that the damage is "normal wear and tear" and not their fault. What? Please, Mr. Laundry expert, explain this to me in the language of your science. Explain how four different items come back from washing with you with the same type of holes, in the same region (3 items of clothing, 3 sleeves torn, plus the scarf). Please, tell me what part of natural wear and tear results in 4 items of different ages and different fabrics to tear in the same place, which is not on a seam, during the same trip to the wash. I have not had 4 things total get ripped before I donated them to charity in my entire life. I have not ever, past the age of 8 when I had a favorite green velvet dress than I over-wore, had an item of clothing tear that badly. Ever. But half of what I sent you came back torn naturally? Then, to add insult to insult... to insult, they were supposed to return the damaged items to me at 11 am today. My girlfriend works changing shifts and since she's working second shift today, we were sleeping late. Not past when they were supposed to be here, mind. We were dressed and ready nearly half an hour before they were meant to arrive. But I got a text from my roommate (whose contact number they had) from her place of employment that they were calling here 45 minutes before they were supposed to be here to let her know no one was answering the door. Well, no, we weren't. We were asleep because you weren't supposed to be here for three-quarters of an hour and for the first time in our dealings, you got here early, instead of severely late. So I have no idea if I'll get my stuff back. I was thinking about having some of it altered to make it sleeveless, so it isn't a total waste but who knows. This place sucks. I mean, there is no business that I loathe more than this place. They steal your money, destroy your stuff, and then claim it's normal for clothes to spontaneously combust in their presence. I hope no one has to deal with them again, ever. (That said, ChiTownDeals has been extremely gracious about the entire thing and I love them.) read more

I, too, fell for the gilt city voucher trap for this place. I purchased this without really checking into the reviews - and I'm really regretting that decision now. When I called to make my initial appointment they told me I was better off making the appointment online. So I went on to their website and scheduled my pick up appt for 4 o'clock on a Monday. Well 4 o'clock came and went and at 4:45 when they still had not arrived I called them and left a voicemail asking when they would be arriving. I never heard back from them. Next, silly me, scheduled yet another pick up appt with them. They showed up this time and collected my bags for dry cleaning. After my pick up I went online and scheduled the appointment for them to come back a week later and drop off my dry cleaning. I made the appt for 8:45 in the morning and at 8:45 I received a phone call that they would be 15 minutes late. An hour later I called that number back to ask why they were still not there and he told me he was a few blocks away. Half an hour later (1 1/2 hours after my schedule drop off time) they finally showed up to return my dry cleaning. Upon opening the package I discovered that only 13 items had been returned to me. I was pretty certain I had sent them 15 items as that is what the voucher was for but I didn't write down what I was sending with them and I could not figure out what items were missing. They also sent no notation whatsoever as to how many items they had received nor how many they were returning to me. A few weeks later while looking for a particular shirt I realized that the shirt, which was absolutely sent with the bag of dry cleaning picked up by the laundry bag, was not returned with the delivery. I immediately called and left a voicemail as well as emailed them. I received an email back explaining that they keep all items for 40 days (this was well within the 40 day period) but that they did not have my shirt and that there was nothing they would do regarding my expensive, only worn once, garment being lost sometime between them picking it up from my home and them returning items to my home. I informed them I would be adding to the many poor reviews online they already had and I never received a response. This company, although a good idea, has terrible service (late and no shows for their pick up/drop offs) and loses items and offers nothing to try to rectify the situation. I would definitely not recommend this company and really advise people to absolutey not use them - no matter what deal they offer. read more

I can't tell you how their service it because they never showed up!!!!! I spent an hour on the phone with a representative setting up my first time service. She confirmed I was in their service area. She spoke with the owner and confirmed they would work with me on future bundle specials if necessary based on my laundry needs. They sent me 2 emails confirming my pickup date and time. I packed up 8 full bags of laundry. The day of pick up arrives and no one showed. I call to ask when to expect someone and the GM told me I was out of their service area. He stated they emailed me that morning to let me know. That was not true. Even if it was true (not) it's still a poor way to communicate to a customer that you made and error and won't do business with them. From my conversation with the the GM it was pretty obvious he has this type of conversation all the time. He apologized but it was anything but sincere. I asked the GM to have the owner call me. My guess is I will never hear from them again and that's okay with me. read more

I hate doing laundry. HATE IT. So although I don't indulge or spoil myself often, or really at all, I do use the laundry bag on a regular basis. I was very surprised to read the other (negative) reviews here because my experience has been completely different. They are always professional, polite, on time, and I have never had any problems with damaged or missing clothes (even socks)! Anyway, I recommend this service for those who do not like to do laundry or just want someone else to pick up, wash, fold and deliever back to them their once dirty but now ready to wear clothing! read more

The WORST service imaginable. DO NOT use this company. I was charged twice for my service, then threatened by the delivery person that he'd keep my clothes and I should call the police if I want my clothes (my property) back; after it took nearly a week to return my single bag of clothes. When I called to try and correct the billing, I was told that I did something wrong and they were right. i am very pleased with the service of "the laundry bag" and have been a client for the last 2+ yrs. whatever difficulties may have been in their operation back in 2010-2011 that have been reported seem to h ave been worked out, at least as far as i am concerned. the business has become more experienced and seasoned. it provides an affordable and useful service. i have not had damage done to my clothing they have handled, nor have i had scheduling problems. i don't believe i am/would be an exception and recommend "the laundry bag" to others. i wish the 3 brothers success in their growing venture. I know most of the reviews on here are not great, but I really like The Laundry Bag's service. I've used them four times now, with only one minor billing mix-up the very first time I used them - which was corrected right away. Since then I haven't had any issues. They've been on time (and often early) for both pick-up and deliveries. It's super easy to use their online scheduler, though their website is a bit clunky to navigate at first. My clothes are always clean and well-folded, and I'm still amazed at how compactly they organize my clothes. Seriously, my underwear is folded into neat little cubes - it's insane. I've also sent dry cleaning out to them and received the items back in great shape. Perhaps they've gotten new management? Either way, so far so good from my experience. read more
