Sadly, Ontario Cleaners follows the trend of the lack of decent cleaners in River North. First, the positives. One, they have a great location. I know it depends where you live, but they are very central to the Western part of River North and the next cleaners over is more expensive and not really much of an upgrade. Two, it's not a bad value. For example, the cost of laundered shirt is under $2.00. However, what I believe separates a just ok cleaners from a great cleaners is service and the ability to get out stains. While the staff is nice, they just do not go that extra mile. For example, I brought in a tie to have a stain removed. After they failed to get out stain on two tries, I asked to receive some sort of credit or discount. They literally told me that I had pay full price as it was my fault for stain. I get it, I stained the tie (not intentionally), but from past experience, I have never had a cleaners overtly blame me for a stain or at least make some sort of accommodation if they had also failed to deliver on the service. Another example was a time I asked for minor sewing repair. From past experience, I have been not charged for on the stop minor repairs. It's kinder like a thank your or favor for giving the cleaners a ton of business. It's the failure to achieve the goal of removing stains and lack of reasonable accommodation that does this place in. It's not a terrible cleaners, there are worse cleaners in River North, but if you have another option, you should take it. read more

I take my pants here to get them dry cleaned. I absolutely hate spending money on dry cleaning but it has to be done. Boo. Ontario Cleaners is next to my building, so that's the only reason I go here. It's about $4/pants. I think that's a lot but I know it's standard. This place gets good business and the owner is really friendly. I feel comfortable going here and having them clean my clothes. I need to get a pair of pants hemmed and it's going to cost $12. They have good hours... Mon-Fri, 7am-7pm and Saturday 8am-5pm. read more

Do not use this dry cleaner, the customer service is horrible. I dropped off a suit and a blouse and was given a ticket with the price and description of the clothing. When I picked up my items the price had suddenly increased by $5. The woman working the counter showed me an entirely different ticket that split up my suit resulting in a higher price. She quickly charged my credit card despite showing the ticket quoting the original price. Needless to say, I will not be going back. read more

Convenience in dry cleaners is key to me. This place is right around the block from my apartment, so it gets points there. HUGE points for fixing a broken zipper on my down jacket for only $10, where another dry cleaner around the block (see my previous reviews) quoted me $60 for the repair. Points for the ladies always being incredibly friendly--I appreciate that. I suppose prices are typical for the River North area, but it still seems expensive to me. $5 for a skirt and $9 for a dress. I know there are cheaper places ($2.95 dry cleaning in the South Loop), but being able to pick up/drop off on the walk to/from work is worth the extra in my mind. read more

****Update as of 3/3/08 - down graded to three stars.**** I recently brought in a white Puma jacket that had your usual dirty stains on the sleeves and near the pockets (no my hands are not gross...I am a neat freak if you really want to know the truth ;-). Well, I just got it back and after spending $6 to basically get back exactly what I brought in...I'm just not the happiest customer. This place gets the job done. I'm not a big fan of dry cleaners but the convenience and friendly owners make up for it. I've had several "white" items that got crap all over them from walking home in rain (e.g., skirt, pants, and a coat). They did a decent job of getting the stains out. Sometimes you can bargain prices with them too :) read more

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars. Do NOT go here, you will be frustrated and feel wronged. I brought my $1500 boots to get fixed (minor touch-ups) and when I came back the following week to pick them up, they looked SO much worse than when I had originally brought them in for a repair (there were now tears at the leather, indent marks, scuffed). When I told the owner of the dry cleaning store, she did not even bat an eyelash and told me I had to pay, even though I told her that she ruined my shoes. She wouldn't let me take my shoes until I paid for a repair that basically RUINED my shoes. Be warned. That lady (the owner) is not trustworthy, RUDE, and will bully you. AWFUL customer service. I've given them a few tries and most everything I've taken in has come back either still stained and/or wrinkled. The couple that work there are SUPER friendly, which makes it difficult to write a harsh review, but it's just not good. The prices are pretty on point with what you would pay in the neighborhood (ie high), but the quality is not there. I will say that they have hemmed a couple pairs of pants for me, which all came back fine. The dry cleaning services have just left a lot to be desired. read more

MY $250 THEORY DRESS PANTS ARE RUINED. I took these in for a delicate dry clean, as these pants are cashmere wool (believe me, they feel great). But when I got them back, they were pilting all over the place with fuzz balls. Someone clearly did not pay attention to the material when cleaning this. In addition, they would not offer me compensation, or even a refund. The other 2 shirts came out normal, but come on. This is ridiculous. read more

What a disappointment! My shirts still come back with stains on them. Last week, I returned a shirt with a stain that--when redone--was perfect looking. I wondered why they couldn't have taken care of it the first time (and I had to pay twice). This week, two white shirts came back with obvious stains on the front. I took Spray N Wash myself to them and within 5 minutes the stains were gone--why can't the dry cleaners do this? Time for me to find a new dry cleaner. read more

This is the first review I've written and I hate that it's a negative one. However, I rely on yelp a lot so I figure I owe it to everyone to warn them about this place. Since moving to the area over 3 years ago, I have brought all my clothes here that needed to be dry cleaned or tailored. A few weeks ago, I took one of the dresses I had dry cleaned with me to Boston to wear to my brother's rehearsal dinner. I was horrified to discover that the dress had been ripped and poorly sewn back together. I took the dress back to them when I returned home and not only did they deny doing it, they essentially accused me of lying about getting the dress dry cleaned there! Having been a loyal customer for so long, I couldn't believe that this is how they chose to handle the situation. Needless to say, I will not be bringing anything there again. read more

I joined yelp today partly because I don't want people to suffer like I have. My boyfriend has been using them for 2 years b/c options are limited in our area and frankly he will wear anything. I started using them a few months ago.They are always kind and friendly but the cleaning is VERY poor. A few examples: -White shirts come out dingy. I asked how often they change their fluid and they said the light made it look dingy and the shirt was clean. -Hemming was poor. I asked them to use my original jean hem and they cut it off and hemmed them like pants. Good-bye Joe's jeans. They used a machine to hem my beige dress pants and didn't cut the hem so the stiches (3 inches from the bottom) were VERY obvious. They happily re-did them by cutting two inches and hand-stiching the hem. They were fine now but for $25 I would expect a better product the first time. Haven't found a better nearby option for cleaning. Tailor'sTouch on Oak Street is the best tailor I found. A little far for me, but I couple it with some Michigan Avenue shopping. read more

This place is horrible. In the course of an year Ive lost three suit pants and had my silk shirts ruined here (ugh). The only reason why I kept goin here is cuz there right in my building; but screw it; they wouldnt even give me a small credit for my losses. The owners are nice enough but they dont know how to press and clean clothes. read more

Outstanding service, fast turnaround times, and a quality job on men's suits and shirts (can't speak to other types of materials). They'll work with you if you need something specific done or need clothes done a little faster than usual. I've used the service since coming to Chicago, and won't need to look elsewhere. read more
